Good morning, everyone! Have a nice day off Spence and Admin. Staff, what a horrible noise to hear so early 🙁
There is a huge yellow globe in the sky here this a.m. and it is colder than a well digger’s bum. 29 might be semi-tropical to some of you right now but this is the south.
In honor of warmer days to come )and Staff’s early awakening), have a morning glory Monday.
8:41 am on January 5th, 2015
Thanks HOH. I think I hear Dad getting up early. Could it be all the stomping in the room over his bedroom?

9:07 am on January 5th, 2015
Good morning all.
9:13 am on January 5th, 2015
Greetings!
After a day of light drizzle, gray skies, and heavy fog, the sun is out, but it is VERY cold. And windy. My hair hates the wind. Two loads of laundry are drying right now, and I am trying to motivate myself to mop some floors.
Started reading my first book of 2015 last night…”Sycamore Road”, by John Grisham. This book brings back Jake Brigance, the lawyer of “A Time to Kill.”
I am sending strong, healing thoughts to Nana, and hope that she will be tip-top soon.
Belle Starr: If you read this, I must have your help. I need Grizz’s birthday presents to be super sparkly….
9:18 am on January 5th, 2015
Good morning all.
9:25 am on January 5th, 2015
So far, of all the blog family that has checked in, collective butts are being frozen off. Freezing is a relative temperature. (Did we just make a pun?)
9:36 am on January 5th, 2015
HOH: Snicker, snort!
9:54 am on January 5th, 2015
Good morning all. -6 here in Woodstock, IL. Wednesday low will be -15. Not going anywhere that day. Feel so sorry for all the wild creatures who are trying to stay warm. Heated birdbath is almost totally frozen over.
9:56 am on January 5th, 2015
Barb, Heated? Frozen? Something is seriously wrong with that.
10:00 am on January 5th, 2015
Compared to the mid-west, we are almost balmy. It’s 14 degrees but with a 35 mph wind and gusts to 50 mph. Loulou and I are staying indoors.
10:00 am on January 5th, 2015
HOH, it seems to work fine down to 0. After that is is iffy.
10:05 am on January 5th, 2015
The wind chill is minus eight here and the actual temperature is ten. The snow is crunchy.
10:05 am on January 5th, 2015
Good morning everyone! It’s a balmy 63 F at 7 a.m. here, so I have no fears abut walking for the next few days while my car is having some cosmetic work done. Blessings to all, and keep warm.
going to yesterday’s to check on Nana.
10:09 am on January 5th, 2015
Well, if we’re listing temperatures, it’s -11 here. Not sure about wind chill. (I’m avoiding that information.)
The birds at the feeders are going wild.
10:12 am on January 5th, 2015
Yes it is cold. Of course in other parts of the country they would use words like frigid, but here we just say cold. Or sometimes, really cold. Wind chills around -25, air temp. -10. I might have already said that on the previous day.
Dad is being exceptionally contrary this morning. He was sweet as butter all weekend thank dog. I am sure glad the caregiver is here to listen to his grumpiness. She can laugh at him and I can’t. Oh Dawson I miss you! We could roll our eyes at each other.
10:15 am on January 5th, 2015
Morning y’all. HOH is right. This here is the south and 23 is right frosty to us. You folks up nawth must be tough as old nails.
Gas is under $2 a gallon and the Cowboys are in the playoffs! It must be the ’90s!
10:16 am on January 5th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama–Tripe! Some folks around hear eat that in the form of menudo (tripe stew containing other stuff and allegedly delicious). Another supposed delicacy is huitlacoche–corn smut used as a filling and supposedly delicious. Part of me wants to try it, but I find the visuals off-putting (as with some mushrooms, I suspect).
https://www.google.com/search?q=huitlacoche+picture&espv=2&biw=672&bih=413&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=t6mqVJOuD4f0yATlgoGIBw&ved=0CDIQ7Ak
So what news of Nana?
10:23 am on January 5th, 2015
I think this is my father’s mindset this morning.
10:35 am on January 5th, 2015
Hi, all!! Crazy days at work. Hate end of month and end of fiscal year! Have to go back and catch up from January 2nd! Will be back much later today. Hope Mom didn’t miss too much.
10:44 am on January 5th, 2015
ML, good to hear from you, gal. (and NO, that wasn’t a reference to gas). You seem to be in fine form today. If this is the 90’s, can we edit some parts out?
10:47 am on January 5th, 2015
This picture was on Facebook…if the upload works.
10:57 am on January 5th, 2015
So what is corn smut? Moldy, sick looking ears of corn? Why would anyone want to eat THAT?
Poor Staff. Can you tell him he is being grumpy, or give him a timeout or something?
11:35 am on January 5th, 2015
DianeC. the viual appeal of huitlacoche leaves a lot to be desired. To be fair, is is just a fungus like a mushroom but someone wasn’t thinking “appetizing” when the title CORN SMUT was passed out.
11:51 am on January 5th, 2015
You gotta wonder about some edibles. Like who was the first person to open a raw oyster and go “yum!”
Bitter, bitter cold outside. Didn’t we tell you we would get b*tch slapped by karma? The cold has turned the snow in the backyard to ice. These are the conditions we had when Gilly did her sliding-down-the-hill routine. Poor Callie had a heck of a time coming up the hill.
11:55 am on January 5th, 2015
And we LOVE the Shark Kat. Well, I love it. The Corgis are not amused.
12:40 pm on January 5th, 2015
Two!…2 straight weeks of negative or zero weather….grump!…Snow that will not melt. Ice that sticks to my under-bits…shudder!…I’m damn sick of winter….growl!
12:48 pm on January 5th, 2015
One of my favorite photos…The Porsche, Spence, and a dog.
The shark kat and the dogs are both funny.
Gas is $1.85 a gallon here.
12:59 pm on January 5th, 2015
I want a ride in that car!
I have got to get serious about fixing up the basement (washing, painting walls and trim) instead of lazing about all day or the winter will be over with nothing done.
Welcome to my world all you whose bums are frozen off! Today is -30 Celsius (-22 Fahrenheit) Partly cloudy.
Gas price is $122.9 per litre! Lowest price in years.
1:01 pm on January 5th, 2015
One hundred and twenty two dollars a LITRE????
Dawson, you better plan to stay home.
tee hee
1:03 pm on January 5th, 2015
Gas!…there are 3.79 liters in a gallon…snort!…Dawson is paying out the ying-yang for gas….wheeze!
1:09 pm on January 5th, 2015
I think perhaps she means $12.29 per litre.
1:17 pm on January 5th, 2015
ML: Tough as old nails? That’s what I hope the bears think when I go by.
Huitlacoche: The word means “corn excrement” so corn smut is an improvement. It doesn’t look or sound tasty to me.
Staff: Rolling eyes in solidarity.
Laugh of the day: The man in this house just stood in front of me and pounded his bare chest like he was Tarzan. Laughing and rolling eyes at that.
I will be watching World Junior Hockey today. With the US gone, Canada will be playing Russia for the gold medal.
1:37 pm on January 5th, 2015
1.22.9!
2:07 pm on January 5th, 2015
Liters!…So if my calculations are correct, Dawson is paying $4.61 a gallon for gas…snort!
2:08 pm on January 5th, 2015
AND!….She is happy about it!…grunt!
2:11 pm on January 5th, 2015
Yes! We pay out the ying-yang for gas!
Tarzan has left the building. Cold does not bother him. I will turn the heat up while he is gone.
One thing I put off even more than fixing up the basement is making doctor’s appointments. I am in process of booking physiotherapy, chiropractic and surgical appointments as we speak. I have an MRI of bum shoulder booked on the 20th of this month which means an eight hour bus ride each way and a hotel room overnight. Hopefully the MRI will clarify what exactly is the problem with shoulder.
2:32 pm on January 5th, 2015
Rio: I am not happy about the price of gas up here. I only said it was the lowest price in years. To Northerners, the reality that we pay 5 to 7 cents more per litre than elsewhere in BC, and several times more per gallon than the States, rankles, especially as we are awash in oil and gas.
2:50 pm on January 5th, 2015
Allright allright! I’m going in the basement to wash walls.
Thinking about Nana. Where is she?
2:51 pm on January 5th, 2015
But not corporate headquarters, pipelines and shipping lanes, Dawson. Sorry. You’ve got a beautiful country, eh?
3:04 pm on January 5th, 2015
Nobody is happy about the gas prices.
3:04 pm on January 5th, 2015
Does anyone know how to check on Nana?
3:10 pm on January 5th, 2015
Siber H, last contact was on Chrstmas. No answer on the phone and we don’t have her sons’ numbers.
3:20 pm on January 5th, 2015
RELAX! Nana just made contact. Her internet phone and cable have been out. She is AOK 🙂
3:20 pm on January 5th, 2015
Breaking!…News!…Nana is OK. Her internet service is kaput so she has not been able to post…sniff!…I repeat, Nana is OKAY…snorkel!
3:21 pm on January 5th, 2015
Chorkel!
3:21 pm on January 5th, 2015
Hey, maybe we could go to work with Chet and Bernie. Four gorgeous lady dogs, what a team 🙂
3:22 pm on January 5th, 2015
Would you look at that, Rio and the HOH are twins!
3:29 pm on January 5th, 2015
Doesn’t she have a son named Scott? We are concerned.
3:29 pm on January 5th, 2015
OK, now that I refreshed I see that she is fine. Good news!
3:30 pm on January 5th, 2015
Ahhh…Mom just called us and asked us to post a Nana update, but we see you already got one from HOH. Hurray! She is feeling better!!!,
3:31 pm on January 5th, 2015
Good I was worriting about Nana.
Now I will go upstairs and play with my handcrank sewing machine for a while.
Dad approved of the homemade fresh broccoli and cheddar soup. Me too! It was delish. I told Mr.Fireslippers that it only took me an hour to make and he thought that was a long time. The man has no concept of how long ‘real’ food takes to cook.
I think I will tell him he is cooking the hamburgers tonight and we are eating the artichokes as a vegetable. I LOVE fresh artichokes.
BBL
3:39 pm on January 5th, 2015
Thanks for the Nana updates! We are relieved she is okay.
Staff, (whispering) Artichokes are a vegetable.
I like artichokes and know how to scrape the goody off the artichoke leaves.
3:52 pm on January 5th, 2015
I am not on Facebookie, nor do I have a dog, but I saw this yesterday on the news. sniff

4:05 pm on January 5th, 2015
Dawson: MRIs on shoulders are good to get. When I got mine in December, it was clear that physical therapy would not get me better. So I shifted gears and am making plans for surgery in June. I am sorry that you have to make an expedition to get it. Is ian overnight where ever you must go a fun time?
Forecast for here for the next several days: Colder, colder still, coldest, a little better. Good to be back in school.
4:17 pm on January 5th, 2015
Martha: It could be if I was a shopper but this is just going to be an in-one-day, out-the next trip so will get lots of reading done during the 2 – 8 hour bus rides and hopefully a couple naps.
4:36 pm on January 5th, 2015
We have decided that our IQ drops exponentially with the temperature.
we are now qualified for the special needs class.
4:54 pm on January 5th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama, you need to be politically correct. You get to ride the short bus.
4:59 pm on January 5th, 2015
Tupper’s Mama & HOH: Hey! Whad’ya mean? Again, the North gets the short end of the stick!
4:59 pm on January 5th, 2015
I just saw this video on Eyewitness News. Is this cute or what?

5:16 pm on January 5th, 2015
CHobbit!…If you are in your hobbit hole go and check your SDD…snort!
5:35 pm on January 5th, 2015
Who said they were reading Sycamore Row? I read it a few months ago and thought it was very good. I think I liked Gray Mountain, his newest one, even better.
5:40 pm on January 5th, 2015
Reading!…I am reading a Karen Joy Fowler novel called, “The Sweetheart Season”…snort!…It is about baseball and breakfast cereal – but not in that order…chorkel!…I don’t want to put it down it is so good!…chuffle!
5:59 pm on January 5th, 2015
B,M,&L: I am reading “Sycamore Row.” I love the character of Jake Brigance. Of all of Grisham’s novels, in my opinion, “A Time To Kill” is his best.
6:02 pm on January 5th, 2015
Sorry for worrying everybody, but we were not able to post because our Internet service was out. That meant no internet, cell phone or cable.
Now someone here is frantically returning work calls and playing catch-up. Yeep!
We’re off to the bank and store…will be back in a couple of hours.
6:10 pm on January 5th, 2015
My dearest Masquers, so good to have you back!
6:24 pm on January 5th, 2015
Staff – please tell Henry I’ll be 13 this spring, and I still attack place mats and tablecloths. Mom tried to take a picture for you, but I didn’t cooperate. The place mat was in the sun today.
Rio – please tell Beau we’re looking forward to the game on Sunday. We’re in a win-win situation. We follow both teams and will be just fine with whoever wins. I think Beau knows why. Snort.
3-5″ of snow by morning. Maybe. Maybe not. But the weather guy is right about the cold. Stay warm, Everybody.
6:27 pm on January 5th, 2015
Blu-Kat!…I was thinking about you when the Colts beat out the Bengals…snort!…Yes, it will be a fun game to watch this weekend….chuffle!
6:31 pm on January 5th, 2015
Someone please organize s rescue mission! I am at the v-e-t and something was mentioned about siphoning out my blood. Gasp!
I was under the impression that I was here to assist in nursing duties. But I.was duped!!!
6:40 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meashka! Whatever you do – watch your tail end! Those v e t types tend to sneak up and stick needles back there when you aren’t looking!
6:41 pm on January 5th, 2015
Measka, you hang tough. You are in our Prayers.
Nana & BDS & Masquers, welcome home 🙂
6:56 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meashka, I am on my way!!!!
7:32 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meash is back home. She has a icky-smelling ear that is bothering her a lot, after that doc did all her messing with it. She also had to give up tons of blood, for a so-called test. HRMPH!
Siber, thanks for sneaking her outa there.
btw, we here read Sycamore Road too, and we liked it.
7:42 pm on January 5th, 2015
Ooh–I love the pics, am delighted to hear that Nana is OK and agree with Tupper’s Mama that the discovery of some things as “food” boggles the mind (not just oysters–who was the first person to look at a lobster with thoughts of ingestion?)
I just had an interesting call from a gentleman with an East Indian accent who wanted to warm me about hacking software that had entered my computer. I am assuming he misrepresented himself.
Weather is back to normal here–I am Happy.
7:45 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meashka–Keep your eyes open and keep us in the loop. Additional troops are available if a rescue is needed.
Masquers–Good to hear from you.
Wose–Awww…no such thing as too much cute.
7:53 pm on January 5th, 2015
Wose, we just watched that video. Awwww Now that is a little girl what loves her doggie.
7:55 pm on January 5th, 2015
Also to Wose: there are many Members of the Nation on this here blog who sent their pictures to Anthony.
7:56 pm on January 5th, 2015
Barb’s boss called and told her not to rush into work tomorrow. It is supposed to start snowing momentarily and snow all night. Could get about 6″ additional white stuff. Wasn’t Barb just saying she wanted snow? Be careful what you wish for!
Glad our Nana is OK. We were worried.
Meashka, take of your self girl.
7:58 pm on January 5th, 2015
Glad Nana and Meashka are both ok, and without shots in the butt.
Diane – I would look at anything as a possible food source. Mama doesn’t call me the four legged Hoover for nothing.
8:05 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meashka–Glad you’re back home. Take it easy and eat and drink a lot for now. We are all thinking pawsitively for you.
Gilly–“Four-legged Hoover”. Poetic. My home usually needs hoovering, but I’m afraid the population here has taken care of any available food sources…
8:11 pm on January 5th, 2015
They shot me in the butt…twice! Also stuck the dreaded temperature checker up there! Now I am on meds for my hurtin’ ear. The blood was given for an overall “workup” and for a baseline. While I understand those things, I don’t love it. The doc did say I was her very best patient, naturally.
8:12 pm on January 5th, 2015
Diane, please tell us more about the man warning you about hacking software on your computer. What did he want?
8:13 pm on January 5th, 2015
LOL! Those shots made me loopy. It was supposed to say “Gilly, They shot me in the butt.” Sorry for copping your logon. My bad.
8:27 pm on January 5th, 2015
Golinka!…The new Beaus-Mobile keychain was received today…snort!….Beau can’t wait till Spring when he may or may not get to drive his big ole car outta hock….chuffle!
8:32 pm on January 5th, 2015
OMD! My manners. Where have they gone? I was so wrapped up in my v-e-t woes. I was supposed to tell you that Mom received the Howling Husky necklace. She said it is a wolf. I said “sure, sure”.
8:40 pm on January 5th, 2015
Speaking of wolves, we didn’t see much of the full moon last night but mom and I (LLthe Labradoo) did sing a bit and Darling Darah the Dozer honked a it. A good time was had by all excepl the grouchy neighbors.
8:49 pm on January 5th, 2015
Mom got one of those phone calls similar to Diane’s. It was on her cell phone. The guy with an East Indian accent said he worked for Microsoft, and mom’s computer was infected with a virus.
Mom told him to blank off and hung up on him.
9:02 pm on January 5th, 2015
Gah. The Trip to the Store was a Bust.
Rio: Thanks for posting it, but we still do not have all the Ingredients for Your Friend’s Hot Green Chili Recipe. Not to worry…another store trip is planned
Siber-H: Thank Dog you were available to help the Hot One escape from the Dreaded V E T.
Going Back in Time…Lots and Lots of Back Posts to Catch Up on.
Thanks, Everyone, for Caring. We Missed All of Youse too.
9:18 pm on January 5th, 2015
This ransomware stuff has been going on for a while and this article has all the details. I had something like this in mind with those phone calls, but it’s not the same thing.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/04/opinion/sunday/how-my-mom-got-hacked.html
10:00 pm on January 5th, 2015
Meashka – tee hee. That was funny, you posting as Gilly. Who would ever confuse a silly Corgi with an elegant red headed Sibe?
We have gotten two phone calls today about our infected computer. We hung up on “Bob”. But later when ” David” called, we were in the mood to play with our food a little. So we asked how bad the infection was, etc. Then finally, we told him that we didn’t own a computer. He called us a naughty name and hung up on us.
How rude.
10:05 pm on January 5th, 2015
Golinka, we received a wonderful package today too. Yip yip yipee.
Those dogs disguised as kittens are just too much trouble to believe. Tonight I heard some clanking in the kitchen and discovered the dog called Henry on top of the stove.
Mr.Fireslippers made hamburglers tonight and a little bit of burger and burger fat was down under the cast iron pot support. Luckily it was all cold and safe. Henry had moved the cast iron pot support (thus the clanking) and was licking up the fat and meat.
Sigh. So now we know he can jump from the floor to counter top height. Previously he had to sneak his was from other slightly lower elevations.
And Henry is not the smartest one. By the way Rose your god-kittens/dogs now weigh 5.7 (Henry) and 4.3 (Keiko)
This is Keiko with their favorite toy. A rubber thumb cot for sorting papers. It is da bomb!

10:36 pm on January 5th, 2015
Unbelievable!….But I miss Abbie the Kat and even Alice…sniff!…These two foreigners are not interesting…grunt!
10:38 pm on January 5th, 2015
Golinka!…SNORT!…I love it!…heh!heh!…Hackers need their faces rubbed into their poop and that is that…snort!
10:49 pm on January 5th, 2015
Staff, What were you trying to say about Henry sneaking his what?
11:10 pm on January 5th, 2015
Barb, Maggie & Lucy: I think what Staff was saying was that previously Henri had to sneak his WAY UP from lower elevations (by jumping from the floor to a chair to the counters) but now he can jump directly from the floor up to the counters.
Staff’s firm voice when she purrs, “No”, is definitely having absolutely no effect whatsoever on the kitties behavior.
11:16 pm on January 5th, 2015
Oh!…Brother!…snort!
11:16 pm on January 5th, 2015
Dawson, thank you. Couldn’t quite figure that out. Now we are saying good night.
11:28 pm on January 5th, 2015
Staff!…Henry and Keiko *whatever!…are boring as hell until you give them their own voices and their own personalities…grunt!…Reporting on their kitty-do’s is stifling to say the least. Get a grip on your inner kitty and become imaginative as you once used to be…wheeze!
8:21 am on January 6th, 2015
Staff: I am loving the pictures of my godkities! They are little mixers, aren’t they? :^)
Howlers: I hope you were included with those in the Nation who sent in pictures. I know pictures of youse always but a smile on my face.
I wonder if Darah Thea can Hula Hoop. I think that was a Newf in that video…
