Morning. Thank you, Spence. Amen.
8:09 am on April 4th, 2014
We posted earlier this morning on Thursday’s blog, but will repeat how sorry we are for the loss of Rick. I met him last November when I had the opportunity to have breakfast with Rick, Marylou, Karen(Boobear’s mom), and her sister Linda. What a nice man and what a nice time we had. Marylou is lucky to have spent 38 years with the love of her life. Peace to Rick on his journey and to his family.
8:10 am on April 4th, 2014
In honor of Rick and ML, have a familial Friday.
8:21 am on April 4th, 2014
Thank you, Spence. We never met Rick, but we loved him because of his emails and messages from his knife shop. His humility and gratitude showed in each and every note.
And we love ML as a sister (or an aunt, Mom’s sister).
We are grieving for her and her girls and her pups, especially Belle.

ML and family, loving thoughts to you.
8:41 am on April 4th, 2014
ML: I’m so sorry.
9:00 am on April 4th, 2014
oh, damn, ML, just damn. I am so very sorry for your loss. How quickly that cancer works its evil. It does not seem possible that he is gone. Like Barb said, he was such a nice man. I really enjoyed meeting him.
Hold tight to your family and friends now. We are here for you.
9:06 am on April 4th, 2014
ML, I will cherish my knife and two flashlights. I’ll be thinking of Rick and all of you each time I use them.
9:12 am on April 4th, 2014
ML – there were prayers from all around the country surrounding your beloved husband. Each prayer was a star, lighting his path to his destination.
We are sure that with all those prayers, with all that light, his journey was easy, well marked and beautiful.
With tears, we are holding you, Angie, Nikki and all the rest of your family close.
9:25 am on April 4th, 2014
Oh, no!
ML: I am so terribly sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. Just yesterday, I had mailed a check to the firehouse.
I can’t believe how quick his passing happened.
I never had the chance to meet Rick, but somehow I felt that he was a good and decent man who loved his family. (2 and 4 legged).
Godspeed to him, and ML please know your other family is here for you. Anytime, anywhere, any day.
May peace be with you and your family.

Awakening very early this morning we read this sad news.
Thank You, Tupper’s Mama, for expressing so beautifully Rick’s journey.
ML: Crying here and holding you & your dear family close in
Thoughts & Prayers.

ML, you and your girls are in my thoughts and prayers. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of your family. You know we are all here for you and if you need anything, never ever hesitate to ask.
Pugs and Kisses,
S.

We are off for the afternoon. Wonderfluffing first, then a bit of training, and then picking up Lyla at 3:00. Back later.
11:35 am on April 4th, 2014
Just saw Spence’s post this morning and checked the news from last night. ML, words do not begin to express our sadness at how quickly he slipped away. Hopefully there is at least some small comfort from all the love and concern expressed during his last days, both on this blog but also in the community where he lived and worked, and so many had rallied their support to help him fight this dreaded disease. Hugs for you, Angie, Nikki and the members of the nation within, with whom he shared his love.
11:59 am on April 4th, 2014
Rio, when you are able, please check your SDD.
12:06 pm on April 4th, 2014
ML, Angie, and Nikki, We are crying with you and so sorry to learn of the passing of your beloved husband and dad. You are in our thoughts and prayers, and we are here for you. Hugs and love from your neighbors in NM.

Thank you all for these loving words of support. I feel like today is his virtual memorial. We hope to have the physical one next Saturday. I am pretty sure that Rick would have preferred a nice family get-together like we had for his mom, but he put in his years of service to the city, and he deserves the honors that the Brothers of the Fire Service will provide for him. As soon as they heard the news last night, two honor guards arrived to stay with him until the funeral home came to get him.
Please, everyone, have a phantastic Pfiday.
Love you all

How strange it seems to me to be shedding tears for a family I have never met. But yet, here are the tears. I think that in part they are tears of rememberance of other losses and knowing the pain and all that these days have held and will hold for Rick’s family. May they feel peace. Bless all in this virtual family who are holding them up as they walk the tiring path. And once again a quote from a poem by Nancy Wood: For Rick….”Your courage travels with you. Your example is left behind, So that others may know…..The sweetness of your time.

Annnnnd, life goes on.

Macy’s Mom: I am very glad to hear Rick will have a great memorial service that is fitting the wonderful man he was.
And, may I say, you are one of the bravest people I know.
1:13 pm on April 4th, 2014
Macy’s Mom, the funeral service with all the honors for Rick are for his family too. You can be very proud.
1:46 pm on April 4th, 2014
And ML: Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor. Just sayin’.
1:47 pm on April 4th, 2014
I love Macy’s mom. Your sense of humor is what makes you so strong. Never lose it. (It helps me be strong too).

Macy’s Mom: In honor of Rick, I am going to be super nice to the man who lives in this house, all day long!
2:59 pm on April 4th, 2014
I am sorry to hear of Rick’s death, too. Melanie gave me some of his knives for Christmas and told me about him. He sounded like a lovely man. It hurts a lot, ML but I guess it doesn’t keep us crying forever.
3:06 pm on April 4th, 2014
Macy’s Mom, you should have an SDD. (From an interweb inept sister)

Fern? Are you going to be living alone now?
Nothing wrong with living alone. I like to spend a great deal of time outside by myself.
3:41 pm on April 4th, 2014
Siber, I spend most of my time alone in this crummy laundry room that somebody poops all over, while she fawns all over those damn huskies.
3:43 pm on April 4th, 2014
Fern, Life will get better. You will have your own house now.
Make the rents get you direct tv and internet.

Did youse guys notice our anonymous sidekick’s story on Iditarod.com? And he didn’t even run the race!!!! I want to hear the gory details from OFM.
4:06 pm on April 4th, 2014
Meashka, I do too. I am sure AJ has many interesting stories to tell from this year’s Iditarod trail.
4:12 pm on April 4th, 2014
Perhaps A.J. is embarrassed to share. He has aspirations of finishing better and thinks he let us down, as if he could! We should not pester him for a bit. Maybe it is like PTS.
4:34 pm on April 4th, 2014
One thing about the Sidekick: he will probably figure out a way to post on facebookie while those dogs are running. Heh heh!

MPM: Did LouLou get shorn like a sheep today?
7:19 pm on April 4th, 2014
Wose, yes she did. It was great to get rid of all that hair that was starting to get matted. I owe a picture on the block because she looks so darn cute.
7:45 pm on April 4th, 2014
ML–I just got caught up and cannot improve on what others have already said. When you next see Rick it will be a joyous reunion, and I hope the love of your friends on this blog and everywhere may be a support and comfort to you and your family.
7:47 pm on April 4th, 2014
Fern–congratulations on becoming a householder/homeowner.
7:49 pm on April 4th, 2014
B and M–“Wonderfluffing”?
7:57 pm on April 4th, 2014
Diane C, Wonderfluff is a product that was used on my Mollypop.
8:10 pm on April 4th, 2014
Mollypop’s Mom–It’s a real thing? I’m assuming a hair product?
(Geez, I had to retype 60% of this due to typos–time for me to hit the warm soft bed with warm soft doggies…)
8:15 pm on April 4th, 2014
That is a really good question…is wonderfluff a real product? I know what it means when we use the term here on the blog, but that is all I know. We usually use it as a verb.
8:17 pm on April 4th, 2014
Diane C. It is a great product! Fluffy!
8:21 pm on April 4th, 2014
I still have the product, but I don’t know if it’s available for purchase any longer.
8:27 pm on April 4th, 2014
Fern!…I wonder how much her mortgage will be….heh!heh!…Fern might have to get a job…snort!
8:31 pm on April 4th, 2014
Diane, Wonderfluffing is a word we use when 2 or 4 legged is getting groomed, or shorn like a sheep.
MPM, I’m sure LouLou will look so cute in her new haircut.
8:32 pm on April 4th, 2014
Maybe she can do physical therapy videos…like when she was really hurt! Ya never know!
8:35 pm on April 4th, 2014
The lovely Alice M. Is up top.
I was just listening to some tunes on my IPod, and it made me wonder what list of songs we chose for AJ on the trail.
Pixie, is there a possibility you would post the list some time?
8:36 pm on April 4th, 2014
I looked up at the night sky and saw the Purple Princess and Rick doing the two-step.
8:52 pm on April 4th, 2014
Wose–I’ll need to check onthis but it wpn’t be dark here for another hour (the two-step, you say? Not a cakewalk (or something comparably ragtime?)

Maskers!…Are youse guys all caught up on The Good Wife?…sniffle!…I am watching the latest one. We are having a hard time getting through it…wheeze!…Then the phone rang and my friend had to be all professional and composed while she talked to someone about something important. All the while she just wanted to cry…sob!…Hope I didn’t give too much away.

Nighty noodle everyone. It has been a long quiet day. I have laryngitis and can only whisper. No one pays any attention to me when I whisper. grump I hope to be able to speak tomorrow.
9:34 pm on April 4th, 2014
Refresh, then post…
Rio, Dawson was watching that Good Wife show when she was here. She said it was different, or exciting or something like that.
Now I am really going to bed, perchance to sleep.
9:35 pm on April 4th, 2014
Oh Staff – laryngitis? Oh no. Make the man of the house get you a bell, a notebook, a pen and wait on you hand and foot. You need lots of hot tea with honey, alternating with cool ice cream.
And foot rubs. Not sure what that has to do with laryngitis, but what the heck. Take ’em if you can get ’em.
9:41 pm on April 4th, 2014
Back from training, babysitting and then fish fry at the Moose. Busy day!
We say wonderfluffig to mean grooming for the 4 leggeds, and haircut or hair styling for the 2 leggeds. Barb thinks that it might be a real product that they use in cattle showing that fluffs up the tail hair and makes it look fluffy.

10:20 pm on April 4th, 2014

It was great FUN. Nothing like being downtown during the home opener…heh!heh!…The amazing thing was Her boss at the time was English, but he loved baseball…snorkel!…She will never forget that guy, that’s for sure.

ALR!… I meant to type a A Loyal Reader…but also A Thoughtful Reader works too if you substitute the letter “L” for “T”, I guess…wheeze!
10:36 pm on April 4th, 2014
ALR….Here is what my friend thought the first time she read a post by ALR….grunt!…She thought the acronym stood for Rosie L. Abrahams – backwards…chuffle!….I have no idea what Rosie’s middle name is, but that is what someone here thought right off the ole bat…snort!…Not me, I’m not good at speculating stuff that could or could not be…sniff!
10:52 pm on April 4th, 2014
Alone….No one is up speculating with me so someone here has decided it is time to call it a day…sniff!…Put it in the books and up on the shelf…heh!…Chalk it up to life on Earth. …wheeze!…Goodnight.

Ha! I am a loyal reader for sure, but not related to Spence! Maybe I could get an advance copy if I were!
My longtime virtual family has gone through many phases and may be on a bit of a downhill slide at the moment, but we all love Yellowstone National Park and meet up there often in small and large groups for hikes and meals and fun times together. The page for all of us to chat about things other than Yellowstone became The Loon Page, as in Yellowstone Loons, and we had identifying stickers for our cars and pins for our jackets so we could spot each other in the park. We are a family just like here.
As for my sign on, ALR, I was calling myself A Loon Reader (of the page) and one friend shortened it to ALR. It stuck. I am happy to think of it as A Loyal Reader as well! My real name is Sandra and now you know the story! Of course I have no idea if any of you are still awake to read it! Would you like to meet me in Yellowstone in the Fall? I could show you some amazing sights!
1:48 am on April 5th, 2014
ALR: my iPad corrects your name to ALREADY. Do you have pets? I’ve always wanted to go to Yellowstone…
6:13 am on April 5th, 2014
The Hobbit has become Italian: Hobbiti. Heh!
Welcome ALR a.k.a. Sandra. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concern.
6:53 am on April 5th, 2014
ALR–It’s good to meet you! Also interesting to find out about the Yellowstone Loons.
