“NO POST AT THE MOMENT” ? Now we are really confused.

Gooood morning, everyone! Ya’ll need to try to stay cool today. Darah offers her advice, “Slither into the fish pond, do 3 laps, go into the house and lay on an air vent. Perfect, aromatic and cooling”.

    Have a torrid Tuesday.

We are locked up in the jail house again today so that we can keep it safe in the coming storms, or because they think we can’t keep ourselves cool outside, or something. We are not happy.

So good to see the success Pat Kane has reached. We were worried that this would never happen. He and his cousins kept getting into trouble with the law – like going out drinking and then not paying the cab driver – and the Blackhawks thought he was too much trouble and were considering dropping him. Someone knocked some sense into his head and he straightened up.

I’m sure it was hard to remain ‘one of the guys’ with a $30 million contract. Ahh, maturity.

    Good morning (at the moment)

Yesterday was a difficult day. Chronic illnesses do not like heat and humidity. I was driving around for 6 hours -doing errands and such – and I’m not sure going from the humidity to the car’s AC was helpful.

    C. Hobbit, that is two YOUR time, correct? The Pack has buried bones upside down to help facilitate the sale of your house. I juat wish they had buried them outside.

Dawson, after the nine inches of rain, the ground is already parched. Last night’s storm helped, but nothing like yours. I’m sorry you are missing Staff.

My highlight of yesterday was stopping by to tell Golinka and Storyteller hello. I couldn’t stay long, Zoë wanted to get into the pool. We have an agreement that both of us have to be home to do that.

    Naptime . .

Wow – the polls were SO busy this morning! This was an election to fill a vacant senatorial seat, and very few people care at all. But in our town there is an override proposition that has the town very divided. And it seems that every person eligible to vote is doing so. We have been working at the polls for about 12 years, and we have never seen numbers like this. They were so busy, we may actually have to go back and help the evening shift.
The news station out of Boston is remarking that the voter turnout in our town is remarkable – not noting that this override has been the cause.

Macy – r u implying thet we dont always use the bestest grammer?

SiberH!…I like the way you think…snort!…Beau actually did that this morning. He ran out the front door when my friend was carrying the packages she has to get to the postal office. There was a black Kat he just had to see but then two big guys were walking by so he ran down the drive-way in a fierce way ignoring my friend yelling at him…gasp!…Luckily the two guys were freindly old souls that we have met on our walks so they did not eat Beau alive…grunt!…Maybe I should say “Unfortunately” instead of “Luckily”…sniff!

This morning I went to the post office. Open ONLY two hours. I had 11 packages and a large envelope. I had forgotten my return address stickers for the 10 padfolio’s. So Gail let me run home for them while she processed the packages. I love working with the local PO.

I have sent them media mail as it was half the cost of first class. I then put tracking on them so I can check if they do not arrive soon.

Barbs spice books also went out today. Not media mail on that one.

Also mailed an envelope for Dad that would have made Dawson stand in the line at the local Minneapolis PO for about 1/2 hour. I feel very virtuous and now am going to take a nap.

    heh heh heh…we kill us!

  47. Tupper's Mama
    3:24 pm on June 25th, 2013

We think Joey is a cutie – and a keeper for sure.

We are glad someone else asked about SAR before we could – we had no clue.

An override proposition is when they have made a law about what the property taxes are, but then they need more money for something, and ask the voters if they will agree to override the established law and pay more tax until that project is done. For example, we have a brand new, fancy shiny police station that was an override that will affect our taxes until 2032. But this override is a permanent one, raising the property tax structure.
Very angry and bitter fight in this town. Some “born and bred” homeowners here are being forced to move out because they simply can’t afford the taxes anymore. But parents of school kids are screaming that it is mandatory so that school programs aren’t cut.
We see both sides of the issue, and it is a scary one. But we also see so much governmental waste, that it is hard to just hand over our wallet every election.
    sigh

Oleys, That is not a flag that Joey is sitting on. That would probably be disrespectful, we think. Actually it is Ben’s swimming trunks.

Joey is getting used to his new digs. He is showing a strong prey drive towards the chipmunks and squirrels so we are still thinking some kind of terrier. The groomer thought there could be some dashund mixed in.

He is extremely anxious when Kelly is out of sight. As long as he knows where she is he is calm. Barb told her not to be overly concerned at this point, that it will probably take 3-4 weeks to adjust. Any words of wisdom from those of you who have had some rescue dog experience? This poor little guy went from being a stray, to going to a kill shelter, then to a foster in Ky, then up here to a no-kill shelter, then another foster, then to Kelly’s. No wonder he is anxious!

Best in Show! Of course, thank you Staff.

Siber, She has shut him in the laundry room with Gus and he hasn’t done anything destructive or gone potty. She only left him once so far. What he has done when she went outside or to the basement is pace from door to window and room to room, searching for her. The kids don’t seem to be able to distract him. As soon as she is back he will go lay down nearby or on his favorite chair. He doesn’ need constant petting, he just want to make sure he knows where she is. This seems like pretty normal behavior for a rescue. He is also very quiet, but we think that will change a little too.

Joey is Smokin’ when he got spruced up. Are patterns and lots of repetition being used to help him? Using the same phrase to denote activities. IE “On guard” if going to be gone a while, “Be right back” short trip. Music or TV set low when he is alone, and…patience. He’s been around the dog park!

FinnDogsMom, jeeze, I’m geting tired just reading about the things you do . . Knit, make dog beds, have a job and SAR.

SAR is cool. i went up and met the local SAR group when they went the moutain for a training run. Very nice people and dogs. One had to wear a GPS. He was very good. He would find the person and go back to his partner, go back to the person, back to his partner . . While they did the recovery he would go and try to find someone else.

There are SAR Newfs. They go slower than molasses, but they can find their targets.

There was a Newf who was one of the best water cadaver dogs. He would get rowed around in a boat and alert the divers.

I have typed this one handed because Grace wants to have tummies NOW.

Barb, in the hopes of preventing real seperation anxiety I would advise Kelly to leave him whenever she can for short periods of time and then try working up to longer periods. Have her make absolutely no fuss (pay him no attention) when she leaves or when she returns. She needs to be very matter of fact about it.

Rescues are more prone to seperation anxiety than non-rescues. This is understandable.

My plan for showings was always to take the dog for a hike; however, I hadn’t planned on 90 degree weather. We left home with a picnic planned, parked the car and walked 20 minutes to a shady spot by a lake. That is where I discovered that I had everything I needed except mosquito spray! (sorry Rio, your email was an hour late but I remembered everything else on your list). I was wearing heavy denim jeans and a long-sleeved denim shirt but reading, relaxing and eating were impossible as I fanned myself trying to keep the mosquitoes off my and Sadie’s heads. Just when I was about to give up and walk back to the safety of the car for the duration, I received a text that I could go home. Thank goodness. Now we are home with the blinds pulled sitting in the dark because it is too hot to turn a light on.

Barb – when Gilly first came here, she had also been around the dog park a time or two. We were the 5th home in 2 weeks. So, once she knew she really was home, she became a Klingon. We tried Siber’s method, which has worked with many dogs. However, it would turn Gilly into a super-destructo monster. Our next steps were to try Rescue Remedy, and/or a drop or two of lavender oil on the outside of her collar.
Gilly still has her panic buttons – there was a LOT of damage there. But she can handle being left alone now.

“However” is not, in general, a conjunction. It is a transitional word used to show contrast and should begin a new sentence.

B&M: Following his wonderfluffing, I stand by my assessment of Joe’s breed. LBD through and through. Orion, a rescue has separation anxiety. He gets upset anytime the Giant or my Lady walk away from him and he loves it when they walk toward him. He came to us unsocialozes, but like Rory—may she rest in peace—my Lady worked with him. Orion was easier to socialize than Rory. And, then ther is Howard, Trent Howard Whatshisname for long. We have no idea his story, but he and my Lady were bound from their first meeting. Personally, I had to seal the deal with my lady by peekng on her favorite sweater while she was wearing it, but that’s a story for another time.

What a long day. My Lady is beat. She was assigned a big project today that will have her traveling to the top of the world several times. Her first trip is scheduled for next week. She’s not sure when she will see the Giant, but figures she will still be able to pick him out of a line up if it came to it.

Good one, Gilly. The Pack was roaring with laughter, just before they fell asleep.

I am able to breathe tonight. I, by myself, put in the AC unit in my room. I did not carry it. I rolled it in on my office chair. It will not fall out. The towel will have to be replaced when the nephews come and put all the units in correctly.

As it is, the humidity is down and the pollen count seems lower in here.

Whew. Since I haven’t slept for two nights, I am looking foward to sleeping tonight.

Rio, I didn’t know there was a Cape Cod League. That sounds more like a summer vacation than baseball teams.
I have the feeling tonight isn’t going to be the night that the Rockies whip the Red Sox.

I email Santa every year. I’m sure he would recognize my name if I asked him to sponsor Snowhook.

Rio: The showing lasted 20-30 minutes which is typical. My realtor will send a survey questionnaire to the other realtor to get feedback on how the house shows. She will contact me in a day or two with the response.

Buying a house is such a personal decision. Even if the house is great, it doesn’t mean that the layout or property is for everyone. I am just glad that it had its first showing. My realtor says that there is a little more activity going on so she hopes that there is an upswing in the market.
