Nightmare in the Fens
“I had a terrible nightmare last night,” Spence says. “Want to hear it?”
“Describe a dream, lose a reader,” says Admin. “But go ahead.”
“Okay. I dreamed Fenway Park was getting bulldozed. The infield looked like an open-pit mine.”
“Did they find the rest of Ted Williams?”
“That’s not funny. What do you think the dream means?”
“Bet the ranch on the Red Sox. Dreams run counterclockwise.”
Welcome Miss Pretty & Edgar.

Good morning! Sox won big last night, but we aren’t betting our ranch. Lots of pies today, though!
Thank you Hobbit and AJ for the Nana news. We were hoping she was off theventilator, but it does sound like good improvements. Miss her so much.
8:45 am on October 24th, 2013
Where does one rent a bulldozer?
Good morning all.
8:55 am on October 24th, 2013
Bee – we will find out and get back to you.
Morning all.
9:00 am on October 24th, 2013
Greetings!
Beautiful fall morning here in Westchester.
Red Sox-Wow!
Carlos Beltran-Wow!
Still sending strong prayers to Nana…I miss her very much.
Praying that Liz in Oz stays safe.
HRH,B: My favorite pie is cherry! :^)

We didn’t watch the game, but are still cheering for the Cards. We are doing that in honor of Barb’s mom, who was a huge fan.
Hope to hear more good news from Scott today. Thanks for the hospital address.
9:14 am on October 24th, 2013
Good morning, everyone! HRH B and Tupper’s Mama, you are cracking us up. Not to brag but cold here by our standards (40*F @ 9 a.m.) Only in the high 50’s today and possible freeze tonight. Melanie, we can see the Pack acting that way because when we, the HOH, bark at anything (real or imagined) baby Darah runs behind mom to be protected, scheech! Ah baseball and pie, whadda day!
BTW, have a thorough Thursday.
9:29 am on October 24th, 2013
It was 31 at our place this morning. We love it, but the chickens? Not so sure…it was 35 in their coop!
10:05 am on October 24th, 2013
Oleys, One of our city visitors to our farm asked “When do the chickens get their winter feathers?”
10:21 am on October 24th, 2013
The POP has been molting for about 2 weeks. Mom told them to grow more feathers ’cause she wasn’t turning up the heater just for nekkid birds.
10:33 am on October 24th, 2013
We are having Pancakes and bacon this morning. I need my strength if I am going to be at camp till Sunday. Only problem is I halved all of the recipe except the milk. So Mr.Staff says we are having crepes. Oh well I expect they will taste OK.
(I almost wrote “eat OK” as a sort of joke but decided B would not like to read that.)
10:45 am on October 24th, 2013
HEY – SHUT THE DOOR! I’m (un)dressing here!
11:08 am on October 24th, 2013
(wolf whistle) Whoo hoo! That is one nekkid bird.
11:29 am on October 24th, 2013
What is wrong with that parrot?
11:31 am on October 24th, 2013
Just exactly what is going on here? Yesterday was pug porn, today is parrot porn. What’s next? Pigs, pandas, porcupines?
11:33 am on October 24th, 2013
Now we will never get that image out of our minds. Argh!
11:33 am on October 24th, 2013
Barb: My guess would be either a genetic problem or a disease. That is because there are only feathers on top of it (the crest). If it were a self-mutilator the feathers on the head (cheeks, around the eyes, back of head) would still be there.
11:34 am on October 24th, 2013
OH: Check that capon in your freezer.
11:39 am on October 24th, 2013
Ummm – we hate to be judgmental, but that is one ugly bird.
Think maybe that is a Cardinal after what the Sox did to them last night?
11:47 am on October 24th, 2013
Knew someone would get this here blog back to beisbol (heh, heh). Just didn’t think it would be the royal mama.
11:47 am on October 24th, 2013
Do any of you eastern Plunderers ever get near Springfield MA?
There is The Fiber Festival of New England, being held at the Eastern States Exposition, in W. Springfield, MA. on November 2nd and 3rd. A sewing machine collector who has an 1877 Singer head I want will be visiting there.
I was wondering if a plunderer would be able to meet her and pick up the head and hold it for me until I can visit and pick it up from her, or send another sewing machine collector to pick it up? You might have to hold it till next summer.
Someone with a newly clean basement it on my ‘hope for’ list, but she is often away on weekends…
Snicker.
11:48 am on October 24th, 2013
T&G are trying to suck up to Admin. Heh!
11:48 am on October 24th, 2013
Fenway Park bulldozed! Yark!!! That is a nightmare.
I do not want Fenway Park to share the same fate as the old Yankee Stadium. sniff
(Butterscotch)
AJ and C.Hobbit, Thanks for the update on Nana. We miss her so much but know she will return to the blog. Prayers for her are continuing.
Stover and Golinka, I’m laughing at your first two posts.
12:04 pm on October 24th, 2013
A self-mutilating parrot, Oh My Dawg! I would guess that would be from stress or boredom.
Barb is going over to the school to pick up Jack. The library just contacted us and they have Silent Night (Raine Stockton #5) in on a hold for Barb. Now we have 3 books from the library that need to be read and returned in two weeks. Better get crackin!

We don’t understand why this is called obsession…

1:00 pm on October 24th, 2013
Staff – really? Do you know someone with a newly cleaned basement who lives a mere half hour from West Springfield?
Hmmm. Bet she is a really wonderful person who could be talked into it.
1:56 pm on October 24th, 2013
Beautiful morning in Westchester Cty? I’ll second that.
2:00 pm on October 24th, 2013
Terry, that is such a great picture! Where in Westchester was it taken?
2:18 pm on October 24th, 2013
If anything could “jinx” the Red Sox winning the Series, it would be if Spence or Bernie “bet the ranch”.
Rent a bulldozer at the Cat rental store.
O’Howlers: Most of those obsessive behaviors seem normal to me.
2:41 pm on October 24th, 2013
Dawson: Mom agrees with the obsessive behaviors being normal and so do we. Cut tell us why on dog’s earth someone would want to rent a cat?
2:52 pm on October 24th, 2013
HOH: Mice?
I see from last night’s late posts that both CHobbit and AJ sent us updates via facebookie and Scott. Thank you both. Go Nana!
2:54 pm on October 24th, 2013
HELLOOOOOO!
Hmmm, our Pumpkin Getting Ride turned into doing errands and not a single Pumpkin was bought. Jeeze Louise! Too expensive!
We are now home and tired.
Lovely picture Terry.
I know where B. Stover can get a backhoe, but not a bulldozer. (T&G, where did we park that last?)
That is one sorry looking bird.
Staff, Springfield is close, but don’t know what I’ll be doing then.
Chickens getting their winter feathers . . snicker. They could just wear a duck and call it their down jackets.
Can’t remember anything else . . The brain grows weary.
Oh, Hi Dawson!
Also, Widdershins is a totally cool word and appropriate.
3:14 pm on October 24th, 2013
Dear Tupper & Gilly,
Well if you are willing I will talk again to my contact and see what day and when and all that there stuff. And then I will have an excuse to visit. A 136 year old excuse. Heh heh heh.
Melanie, you are off the hook on this one. I have hit my target and am locked and loaded. I hope. However if I get over that way you will be on my list. ;-D
Now I am off to my Quilting retreat. I am only taking 3 machines. Did I already tell you that? A Singer featherweight from 1938, A young 99K handcrank from the 50’s and my 1973 Bernina 830. snicker. Yes, I am showing off.
3:26 pm on October 24th, 2013
Down jacket? Wish we had thought of that as a comeback. Good one Melanie.
We were also asked one time if the ducks were going to be geese when they grew up. Oh my, some people are clueless.

Found an interesting video on life in Whttier, AK.

And here is where the town is located. Back to snoozing
4:24 pm on October 24th, 2013
OHs: Have you heard any news about Nana?
4:30 pm on October 24th, 2013
A very novel way to organize a town. Thanks for the video, Melanie. Wonder if there are any other communities with a main residence?
4:35 pm on October 24th, 2013
And after watching the video that Melanie shared (you all live in the same building?) I found this rather heartbreaking one from a fellow in Willow.

Am I the only one who did not know that Masquers is with Bear Spirit dog?
5:23 pm on October 24th, 2013
Macy, What do you mean? Do you mean they live in the same household, or do you mean Masquers is a spirit cat? If that is what you mean, then we did not know that either.
Do you think Barb could order two of the large antler chews from Rick and have you bring them when you do your meet and greet? That way he wouldn’t have to ship them. They are processed in the USA, correct?
5:41 pm on October 24th, 2013
Barb, yes all USA antlers. Two large, being ordered as we speak.
Yes, apparently Masquers is a spirit cat as well.
6:05 pm on October 24th, 2013
What leads you guys to believe Masquers is a spirit kat?
If this is true, I didn’t know it either.
6:13 pm on October 24th, 2013
BearSpiritDog is a dog that liveson a different reality plane.
Masquers is a jazz playing, weather, flight controller Kat.
That is my stance and I ain’t budging.
6:18 pm on October 24th, 2013
Spirits!…What?…grunt!
6:35 pm on October 24th, 2013
I did not know that about Masquers!!! Why are we assuming that? I am a little distressed about that! I remember when I figured out BSD crossed the bridge at will, but did not know that about Masquers. Macy, what makes you say that?
6:37 pm on October 24th, 2013
Macy, Mom wants to order a couple of knives and pick them up when she meets up with your Mom and Barb in Dallas. She will let you know either tonight or tomorrow which ones. Would you prefer a paypal payment or cash on delivery?
6:49 pm on October 24th, 2013
If anyone needs a cool Christmas present, check out the monocular from Rick’s web site. Gramp still has very poor vision after his eye surgery, and he loves this gadget. (yes, we gave in to temptation and gave it to him early).
And by the way, we just went to the blog’s secret email and noticed a failed message. Not sure who posted it but it was recent. It you sent a message to that email, remember, it is plural dishlickers.
6:51 pm on October 24th, 2013
Have we heard anything more today about Nana? Was the info about Masquers on the facebookie thingie?
7:06 pm on October 24th, 2013
The Whittier video was very interesting. We started watching the one about the team in Willow, but we were afraid.
The Masquers info was posted by Scott in a reply to macy’s mom on facebook. We sort of suspected as much, but didn’t want it to be so. It makes us sad.
We miss Nana so so much.
7:12 pm on October 24th, 2013
I visited Whittier when I was a child. At that time is was a decommissioned military base and a couple was in charge of all the empty buildings. I remember a bowling alley, base housing, etc. I had understood as an adult that the housing was converted into condos which must be what is now the single main residence but I recall a lot more buildings.
7:15 pm on October 24th, 2013
Macy, the large were the ones that were around $10, right? I think there were 2 more larger sizes after that. We are being lazy and asking rather than going back to the website. And we want to know how to pay also. Can we mail a check or give credit card info?
7:16 pm on October 24th, 2013
Oh, and we thought Bear had crossed over, but that Masquers was still on this side of the Bridge.
7:39 pm on October 24th, 2013
Maskers!….He is a living breathing Kool Jazz-Kat…snort!…I refuse to believe otherwise…grunt!
7:40 pm on October 24th, 2013
Series!…Is on again tonight and I bet Maskers is watching it while he sits with Nana!…sniff!
8:22 pm on October 24th, 2013
I can’t seem to get away from goats.
This one was at the Pumpkin place. Hmmm . . I wonder if that’s why I can’t find a carpola pumpkin!
8:24 pm on October 24th, 2013
Gah!…Goat!…Gah!
8:27 pm on October 24th, 2013
Wheeze!…As promised, the mysterious Sunflower Topiary….chuffle!…This photo does NOT do it justice, but her kamera would not use its automatic flash and it is a dark room…sniff!…Maybe tomorrow morning she can get a better foto of it…grunt!…There are pine cones!
8:31 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio, We love it. The pine cones are a nice touch.
8:33 pm on October 24th, 2013
No, no, no, no! I do not want to believe my dear friend Masquers is a spirit kat.
He is one kool kat with many talents. sniff
8:35 pm on October 24th, 2013
Melanie: Did you really have a goat in your house last night, or were you having a nightmare?
This latest goat does have a slight pumpkin-y tinge.
8:35 pm on October 24th, 2013
RIO! I love the sunflowers! The pine cones are a very nice addition. I love pine cones.
8:37 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio’s friend here: Whoever sent this beautiful Topiary, I want you to know I absolutely love it! What a huge surprise! I have no idea what I have done to deserve such a lovely gift. Thank you so very much whoever you are! Oh, and the card was quite clever too. Ha! Thank you! Thank you!
8:38 pm on October 24th, 2013
Off!…No sharing the computer again tonight – the World Series is ON!…grunt!
8:47 pm on October 24th, 2013
Earmuffs!….Boy, that guy with the yellow earmuffs has been to all the play-off games and now the World Series games at Fenway…snort!…He sits right behind the batter and is on national TV quite often…heh!heh!
8:53 pm on October 24th, 2013
Pancho-Lefty!…Check your SDD’z soon as you pleeze!…grunt!
9:02 pm on October 24th, 2013
Riö, I know you are busy, but please tell your friend that is a beautiful arrangement.
9:02 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio’s friend: That is a beautiful topiary. What was so clever about the card?
9:06 pm on October 24th, 2013
Could the card be clever because it is signed by us? No, couldn’t be. We don’t remember anything lately except for a pledge to behave ourselves.
9:08 pm on October 24th, 2013
Dawson and Staff, last night’s goat was a wagging tale.
When I was in my Earth Mother stage, i had goats, chickens, dogs and Kats. My first goat was grand. Very much a friend. She could open doors, climb stairs and loved to dance with the chickens on top of my VW Bug. I did find her on the dining room table eating napkins.
I made the mistake of getting a male. He was actually quite nice. A lap goat. He also smelled to high heaven and was “enthusiastic” when the ladies would come into heat.
I still can not eat goats cheese because of the slight, but to me-overwhelming, smell.
9:13 pm on October 24th, 2013
Melanie: I’ve been known to be enthusiastic with the ladies. I see nothing wrong with that.
9:18 pm on October 24th, 2013
Wooo Hooo….I just got word from my realtor that the closing documents on my North Pole house were signed yesterday and recorded today. It is official: my house is sold and I own just one house now. Can you spell ‘relieved?’
9:21 pm on October 24th, 2013
Tenzing, Melanie and Pancho & Lefty, you are cracking the HOH up.
9:22 pm on October 24th, 2013
Hobbit: Hooray! I can also spell Hobbit, tummy, treat and phood.
9:25 pm on October 24th, 2013
Closed!….Yippeee! The original Hobbit House is Closed for business….Woooo!….Now the new and improved Hobbit House can be opened for business and all Visitors are Welcome…sniff!…Especially ME!…chuffle!
9:26 pm on October 24th, 2013
CHobbit: Congratulations! Anything in that house that breaks down now is not your problem.
9:26 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio: Check your SDD. Stop.
We here refuse to believe our friend Masquers is a spirit Smoocher. Sniff.
9:28 pm on October 24th, 2013
Broke!…My question is: Is CHobbit broke now?…snuff!
9:34 pm on October 24th, 2013
I wonder if NanaBarb got the ventilator out today.
9:35 pm on October 24th, 2013
Sadie and I checked out a house-run doggie day care/boarding home today and next Tuesday Sadie gives it a try to see if she “fits in.” Lots of happy dogs with amazing owners and employees. Expensive but it will be worth every cent if it works. I can give Sadie a play day once or twice a week and board her if I have an out-of-state trip.
Plan B: sneak her into Snowhook Kennel. With all those dogs, what is one more? AJ told me on a visit that the dogs are eating 6,000 calories a day which Sadie will love. heh
9:36 pm on October 24th, 2013
NANA!…I’m not allowed to go out on facebookie. My friend is afraid of all the trouble I would cause out there…sniff!…But I do know I have been thinking about Nana all day and hoping she is strong enough to breath on her own without that damned ole ventilation machine…snuffle!
9:36 pm on October 24th, 2013
I hope Beau doesn’t try to mark those pine cones.
9:38 pm on October 24th, 2013
CHobbit!…Does this mean you are NOT broke after all?…snorkel!…CHOBBIT, CAN YOU HEAR ME????…wheeze!
9:40 pm on October 24th, 2013
Gah!…Every time I refresh the blog I see that damned Nekkid Parrot…grunt!…What an eye sore…sniff!
9:41 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio: My left ear hears you. My right ear not so much. Doctor appointment tomorrow.
9:43 pm on October 24th, 2013
Sadie: We like being you back up plan. We are masters of sneakiness. So is our Lady. She snuck Howard into the kennel. It was about twenty-four hours before the Giant figures out we had a new dog. It was too late. Our Lady and Howard were already in love with each other.
9:46 pm on October 24th, 2013
Pancho n’ Lefty!….Buuurrrrppp!
9:49 pm on October 24th, 2013
We are so happy for you, C.H. It is stressful having two houses.
We see that the RIGHT team is ahead so far in the 6th. Good pitching they say. There are some good looking dudes on the St. Louis team. Hard to tell about the other team with those Amish beards.
Saying good night. Parenthood is on a few minutes, so will do some flipping.
9:52 pm on October 24th, 2013
Amish!….That’s the word I’ve been looking for to describe those Beards!…snort!snort!…Some of those beards have really become an entity unto themselves…heh!heh!
9:52 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rio: Huffle!
Our lady is about ready to board a plane bound for anchorage. She will stay in town tonight.
9:54 pm on October 24th, 2013
Rebecca!…Stay at the Hotel Hobbit!…snort!….I hear it is cheap and comfortable!…heh!heh!
9:59 pm on October 24th, 2013
I haven’t read all the blog yet, but I want to apologize for spilling the beans about Masquers. I really thought that I was really the only one who didn’t know. Pretend I said nothing. Rewind, start over, don’t read.
Regarding payments for those coming to Fort Worth. Once you get here, cash or credit card either is fine. He has a CC gadget on his phone, and we still know how to make change. We are getting excited now that it is less than a month till we get together. The Man is trying to figure out the best place to meet/eat. There are several choices near the Worthington that are reasonably priced.
Ok I am going back to read the rest of the blog. mea culpa
And Rick is thrilled than Father Golinka likes his gadget.
10:00 pm on October 24th, 2013
Homerun!…snort!….Ortiz hit it and now the Red Sox are ahead of the good-looking Cardinals…chuffle!
10:01 pm on October 24th, 2013
That Ortiz fellow comes through again! Home run to take the lead.
10:01 pm on October 24th, 2013
Oh, and Barb the large antlers are 10.95. thanks
10:02 pm on October 24th, 2013
Tenzing, the male Newfs have also been “enthusastic” at certain times. I remember why we put up a very heavy gage wire between two of the areas. Mac ate through the smaller gage wire. Franklin just charged through doors.
That was when they were three. We then got a very strong kennel.
They were nothing compared to the male goat. There is a reason for the term “H***y as an Old Goat.”
I am goin to try to sleep tonight. Last night was a bust.
TTFN
10:07 pm on October 24th, 2013
Macy’s Mom!…Do not be sorry. It is a credit to Nana’s sharp wit and creative writing skills that made us all “believe”…heh!…I am in awe of her…sniff!… Maskers will always be alive and well and blowing his Sax on Friday Night downtown at the “Black & White Kool-Kat Jazz Klub”…heh!
10:10 pm on October 24th, 2013
Snowhookers, did you see the video about the inherited dogs? We were wondering if you know this guy or his dogs.
10:14 pm on October 24th, 2013
Ah am here to tell you that Masquers is jist as real as kin get. Ain’t no spirit kat a’wailin on that there sax. An trust me, no little ole spirit could put away as much ‘shine as that there cat.
How do Miz Macy, mah litl darlin’. What do you say to cutting a rug at the Harvest Barn dance tomorry night?
10:17 pm on October 24th, 2013
Brother!…I don’t know about Macy, but I sure would like to go to that Barn Harvest Shine Fest with you…heh!…I have been sorely out of Shine lately for some strange reason…grunt!
10:17 pm on October 24th, 2013

10:19 pm on October 24th, 2013

10:23 pm on October 24th, 2013
Macy’s Mom, I have already forgotten it. I am skilled at forgetting.
Rio, Very well said about Nana and Masquers.
We just want Nana to get better.
10:23 pm on October 24th, 2013
Brother!…Redbone! Done!…snort!…I will go pack my little knapsack…snort!…When is this Shin-Dig Shine Fest again???
UH OH!…Those good-looking Cardinals have the bases loaded and only ONE out…gasp!…This is very stressful….sniffle!
10:23 pm on October 24th, 2013
Nana is off the ventilator. There is a picture of her on Facebookie but I can’t post it from here at Quilt camp. Maybe one of you other techie people will put up a link.
Wonderful news!
Nighty noodle all.
10:24 pm on October 24th, 2013
When James Taylor got up to sing the Star Spangled Banner, he started off with Oh, beautiful for spacious skies, then smoothly transitioned to the right song. It was so seamless that some people are wondering if he did it on purpose. I am sure we will hear more about it.
10:27 pm on October 24th, 2013
(((SIGH!)))…We missed the beginning of the game because of “company”….grunt!…I missed James Taylor doing a faux paw on purpose…dammit!
10:27 pm on October 24th, 2013
Guess who’s on FaceBook?
10:28 pm on October 24th, 2013

All this good news in one day! Miz Nana, Ah am jist plumb tickled to hear that y’all are gittin better.
Miz Macy – Ah will be by to carry you to the dance round about 8.

10:30 pm on October 24th, 2013

10:33 pm on October 24th, 2013
