Whoo hoo! Go Niko, that was a BIG load to pull, youse are worthy of a Newfie award!
Good morning! Yes, we Iditadicts are having withdrawl. Glad mushers are home safe. Pawray all the rest of the 4 leggers get home safe, too. Mom is heading for the library and we will nap so we can be full of pi$$ and vinegar when she gets home.
    Have a Tasty Tuesday!

Good morning. Good boy, Nico. And yep, that was a big load to haul in to shore. Heh! You are amazing.
Betcha Darrah or Mac or Dan the Dog would do that.

When we first read the link, we figured it was probably a Newfie. Bernies are not noted for that, more of a cart dog we think. Guess if they could pull a cart they could pull two big humans, right? The fact that he jumped in and swam to them is the surprising part. Good boy, Nico.

Rio, We forgot to order The Sweetheart Season from the library, Will get right on it as soon as I finish this one. Thanks for the reminder.

Must get ready for work – this is the week where I cover for Nicole who is off on a vacay with her kids.

O’H, you’d have to nail Dan, Mac or Darah to the floor to keep them out. Newfies will save you whether you want to be saved or not…Our Aretha (with one shortback leg) even tried to pull the pontoon boat once!

HOH, Mom knows all about Newfies lifeguarding abilties. She was once BFFs with a Newfie named Sandy. When Mom and Sandy went swimming in the river, Sandy trried to save all the kids who were swimming. They thought she was a bear! Heh!

He, he. When the HOH first moved to TN, the neighbor’s daughter saw the newf and ran into the house screaming, “It’s a bear!” Ever since mom calls them TN long tailed black bears!

Way to go Nico. You are beautiful! (Weight isn’t that much of a factor. The danger when saving people from drowning is that in their panic they may pull you under as well.)

    Good morning all.

Well!!! I was informed this morning that I have to go to the v-e-t this evening. Just because I have a bad tooth and my jaw is swollen to twice it’s normal size. I think it will heal and I certainly will NOT let Mom take a good look inside my mouth!

On a sad note, Brother Linus is going with me so he can go keep Dad company in heaven. Mom says Dad needs him more than she does so she will let him go.

ML, Mom’s sister used to work a second job as a checker at a grocery store in SouthLake. She wasn’t the speediest because she liked to visit with the customers. But she did that part time job for many years.

BooBear – hope the tooth is an easy fix. And we will hope that Linus’ journey is a peaceful one, and that he and your Dad will have a great reunion.

Hooray for Nico – we know two BMDs in our neighborhood. Both are happy, silly dogs given to romps and bounding around on their leashes. Not sure how serious they would get in an emergency.

Speaking of bears – we wonder when the neighborhood ones will show up.

B, don’t mean to upset folks with the “spleen” word. 1% of the people in the world live with out a spleen. Wasn’t our choice but as out friend said, “you kicked cancer to the curb” and we did, but life w/o one has been interesting. Avoid infections…how? Argue w/ DR. about use of antibiotics. Look like a person with an “agenda” while wearing a mask in public. Yes, life has changed in the past 2 years. Glad the changes have been mostly for the better and love handling Snowhook dogs this year and riding on a sled around Snowhook property.

T & G, Barb’s mom who grew up on a farm in Missouri said they stepped on rusty nails every summer. There were 7 kids and whenever this happened the treatment was to pour kerosene on the wound and then slap a piece of salt pork on it. Not sure of the reasoning, but no one ever got tetanus (they called it Lockjaw).

Ok. Now what is the world is going on? I have to stay in the hospital and have surgery and Linus is going back home with Mom?? Mom said to tell y’all my mouth and chin looked worse, worse, worse than this morning but I sure gave her what for during the 35 minute ride to the v-e-t. I cried very loudly the whole way. Mom kept muttering about how bad infected mouths smelled. I just kept on talking!
Mom decided to have a couple of tests done on Linus before making a final decision. He is getting fluids and bloodwork done now and will go home with Mom to wait out the test results. He has gone from 14 lbs to 8 lbs in the last few months.
She better come back for me tomorrow or I’m going to be in a very bad mood.

    Hello All,

Thank you for your on going support and cheer. We’re back home and resting though the dogs are bouncing off the walls already. I came down with pneumonia the last day of the race and am just now getting over the worst of it. Suffice it to day I’ve slept a lot since Nome. Soon I’ll post the story of the race this year and it will hopefully make sense.

The stand out that makes me laugh at this moment though and as a teaser for the whole story is as follows…

Moving from Koyuk to Elim we broke trail again through deep drifts and fierce wind. As this section of trail is treeless and wide open to the ravages of wind it can be a dangerous place to cross. Moving slowly and bundled up three of us went out together but with the white out conditions the other teams were quickly lost to me and it was clear we were all on our own. My team went trail marker to trail marker until the markers disappeared all together having been blown down in the wind. Stopping to find a trail through a trail less and windswept terrain I went up to thje front of my dogs and swept my headlamp around looking for the markers. Finally finding the next marker I turned again to my team expecting them to be worried or starting to curl up to wait out the storm. That was the last thing going on. Rio was entertaining everyone by mounting Josephine who was less than fond of his affections…. So with a smile and pulling a disappointed Rio off his conquest we continued on into the storm.

    Thank you again….

    AJ

Snowhook is complete again with the arrival of the Giant and our Lady in the middle of the night. Our Lady is trying to make the Giant rest as much as possible. She is so proud of him. Hell, we all are. How couldn’t we be? He was nominated by two different mushers for the sportsmanship award. We are proud to say he belongs to us, us, us. Ole Doc on the other paw, is a little upset. It seems the Giant has chosen to take a nap on Ole Doc’s loveseat. This only leaves two dog pillows and the couch for Ole Doc to choose.

Junior makes us so proud what with his extracurricular activities on the trail. You can’t be a sled dog all your life. It is good to explore options, develop talents and pursue your interests even if that interest is named Josephine.

AJ & Rebecca: Take it easy if you can.

I’m laughing about the unfortunate lady who lives in the “pizza” house.

I’m hungry also but it is too close to bedtime.

I’m off to read some Dr. Doolittle before bed.

    Hi, ML.
Awake!..in the wee small hours of the morning. Was it that late afternoon katnap?
I know someone is out there…perhaps even my BFF Rose, who I miss very much. sniff.

    B: It should read…whom I miss very much…right?

Whom always sounds so stiff and formal…very ta ta and upper English.
We know the he and him rule, but now we’ve got a she and her.
It is way too early to figure this out. Besides here I am on the blog talking to myself, and you know what they say about THAT.
    I’m going back to bed.

I still don’t see a her/she question, only a who/whom. But let me add: It would be correct to say I miss her, or she is missed.

And Rose, we do miss you.

BTW Josh just stopped over and he and his family are going to foster a pot bellied pig for a couple of weeks. At east that is what he is telling me. Anyone have any experience with a PBP?

BML: The she/her is the who/whom. Pot bellied pig?
