News From The Nation Within (Revised – Thanks, Mollypop)
“Couple of interesting things in the news,” says Bernie. Couple – that means two, right? Two is where I stop counting. But it’s enough, in my opinion. “First, we’ve got this new method of energy production in Cambridge Mass. Wonder if Lily knows about it? Maybe she could stop by and snap a picture.”
http://www.pawnation.com/2010/09/17/news-dog-poop-powers-light-in-massachusetts-park/
“Second, we’ve got the world’s biggest dog, Giant George, 245-pounder – hey! he lives not too far from us, Chet – getting together with the world’s smallest dog, Boo Boo, a twenty-four-ouncer.” Two hundred and forty-five pounder? I’m a hundred-plus pounder myself. Does that mean this Giant George dude is bigger than me? All of a sudden I want to meet him, real bad.

Chet..poop power..uh, I'm not too sure I want anyone messing around with my, uh, by-products.
You are right 2 is definely enough. No more than you can count on front paws. When I had pups I had to use all 4 paws to keep up with them. Exhausting! Now I am down to two and them are big enough to keep up with themselves.
Any progress on Slim Jim Day? They sell them at mom's Big Orange Box, but does she ever bring any home? hmph
3:53 am on September 22nd, 2010
I guess I should have read the article before commenting. It makes a lot of sense since (?) our janitors have to clean up after us anyway.
4:02 am on September 22nd, 2010
uh, it is early. them don't do anything, but they do.
4:13 am on September 22nd, 2010
Good morning. George I would like to meet, but Boo Boo is just a tad small for my taste, so to speak.
Melanie, have you recovered from the Newfie outing yesterday?
We liked that "My gate, mine". Does that work? You had a good response to Dan's book, too.
4:33 am on September 22nd, 2010
Chet: That 245 pounder could probably keep that park spark light shining for long time.
5:22 am on September 22nd, 2010
Heh!… Hurray for Boo Boo and Giant George!…grunt!…Seems Boo Boo and I agree on something. To quote her owner, "Boo isn't generally afraid of other dogs, even this big one, It's cats, really, that put her on edge."…. snort!
6:01 am on September 22nd, 2010
Uh oh, Rio. Dissing the Yankees and now Kats – you really like living on the edge, don't you.
6:02 am on September 22nd, 2010
Hmmmm. I wonder what 1 day of 10 dogs pooping could do? Perhaps take over the washing machine? the dryer?
Or to go really tacky (though we are enjoying the solar pink flamingo statue in the stockade, visible from the bathroom window) the methane could light up a large plastic Newfoundland dog statue! Maybe the drool could be lit up!
Hmmm, "stature" is one of those words that when I write it a lot it looks wrong.
Anyhoo, really glad that we don't own Giant George!
Knowing that the dogs would obey Zoë and would have forgotten the climb up the wall (yeah, right), we took them down to the play yard and up and gone was Gracie. Rose behaved herself.
We finally got her back, Zoë swearing this time, and then locked them all in the house. We fixed the wall by putting a wire fence at the top and it's leaning inward, not on like a jail.
We let them loose and Grace went over and hit her head on the fence. The look on her face was great. She tried it one more time.
The wall is now not climbable. (Knock on wood!)
6:03 am on September 22nd, 2010
Then I write the wrong word . . not "stature" "statue".
6:07 am on September 22nd, 2010
Siber-H and maybe Riö, Nothing to do with dogs, but did you guys see the fireball that went across the sky?
Someone in New Mexico got it on video through a large telescope.

Rio. Your business venture seems to have made it big time. There were actually major articles in both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal today on the beg bug conference in Chicago. According to the Wall Street Journal article (aptly titled "Itching for a Bite of Bedbug Trade"), the official name of the event is the Bedbug University North American Summit. I don't know about that, I think the last we want to be doing is sending bedbugs to a university. Also, there is a photo at the bottom of the article which is of a vile containing live bedbugs with the following caption underneath it: "A vial of live bedbugs being used to train dogs to sniff them out." I just want to know did they interview you for the article? Wookie
P.S. Any report from Rockie?
6:10 am on September 22nd, 2010
Melanie, Sounds like you came up with the solution. Gracie hitting her head reminds me of the time Gus came out for a visit and ran full blast into the chicken fence. He bounced back and looked around, like "How did that happen?" He stood up and tried slowly walking into it once more, than got the point and walked away.
6:15 am on September 22nd, 2010
Wookie and Rio, We also watched the bed bug report last night, on the Chicago NBC news. They showed a beagle named Snoopy (imagine that) that sniffs out the bed bugs, then his human coworker sprays them with something that freezes them to death. You can also heat them to 120 degrees with same results. They are creepy!
6:28 am on September 22nd, 2010
I wonder if we could build cars that ran on methane. Interesting articles but more on the Astrid case would be even more interesting.
6:31 am on September 22nd, 2010
My Mom and Sam's Mom were seriously concerned about the bed bugs when they went on the college trips. Their suitcases did not come back into the house. They were emptied in the garage and the clothes went right into the washer.
6:41 am on September 22nd, 2010
Wookie!….Rockie said he would report in tonight regarding the conference and what he and his hillbilly friends have learned so far….snort!… Should be interesting. I paid a fortune to get those guys into that conference…grunt!… I told him to get as much publicity as he could for my business, but it seems he let Snoopy the Dog get the spotlight….drat!
7:07 am on September 22nd, 2010
"The look on her face was great." That is funny. And: That is a big fireball.
Tonight is the full moon and the autumnal equinox happening only 6 hours or so apart. A big deal in some circles.
7:16 am on September 22nd, 2010
So this is when we balance eggs right? snicker.
Full Moon and Autumnal Equinox means . . .
Dogs gone wild!
7:19 am on September 22nd, 2010
Dawson: In what circles?
Melanie: Is it true about the dogs going wild because of the full moon and autumnal equinox? (For some reason I find this fascinating.)
7:35 am on September 22nd, 2010
Wait!…Does this mean I can go wild tonight too??…yipppeee!… Full Moon A Rising!…snort!
7:52 am on September 22nd, 2010
I heard that when there's a full moom on the equinox, Pugs turn into werewolves.
7:57 am on September 22nd, 2010
FULL MOON ! (not moom)
8:02 am on September 22nd, 2010
Astrid who…
8:13 am on September 22nd, 2010
Werepug!…snort!…Tonight is going to be fun!fun!fun!…heh! …Unless someone puts the clamps on it right off the bat…grunt!
8:16 am on September 22nd, 2010
Small werewolves that clamp on to people's ankles!
Full Moon and dogs.
My belief is the light from the full moon lets the dogs see better and so they stay up longer and bark more.
8:17 am on September 22nd, 2010
Though we have heard the coyotes howling at the full moon, but it's been a couple of years.
8:18 am on September 22nd, 2010
B. Stover: Astronomical circles, telescopic circles, etc.
The cranes are still flying over. They only like to fly on sunny days.
8:27 am on September 22nd, 2010
I should say: More cranes are flying over. Not the same ones.
8:43 am on September 22nd, 2010
Dawson, that made me giggle.
8:45 am on September 22nd, 2010
Dawson, glad you cleared that up. I was afraid that you had some directionally challenge cranes going in circles up there.
Werepug *shudder*
Melanie, we laughed so hard at your narrative from yesterday and still get a chuckled trying to picture the over-the-wall gang and "my gate, mine" As big as your pack is, I would imagine that just about everything is an adventure.
8:48 am on September 22nd, 2010
We can't get the fireball video to open. It shows to be mp4. What player does it need?
8:56 am on September 22nd, 2010
could someone please check and see if facebook is down? We can't get it to open and are really hoping it is not just us.
9:06 am on September 22nd, 2010
Macy – It's not facebook, it's spaceweather, and the site is up. It is slow, maybe getting a lot of hits, so be patient.
9:18 am on September 22nd, 2010
Macy, after this morning's episode, Zoë and I asked them to keep it to a dull roar.
9:23 am on September 22nd, 2010

WILD GOATS!!

9:29 am on September 22nd, 2010
Our chrome colored Google says it cannot find facebook. I do not know where they put it or I would go look myself. I do not know what a google is, but it is making mom snarl.
What is spaceweather?
9:30 am on September 22nd, 2010
You're all making me giggle. And I'm wondering how werepug is defining "wild." Isn't he always?
I've been reshelving books all day because I needed to find room for more books that have been stacking up. I'm exhausted.
MollieBP: That's funny: Astrid who? I looked last night for info on Myka in WH13 but nothing was up. I'll look now.
9:35 am on September 22nd, 2010
OMG!… Those damn Goats can climb anything!…snort!… I’m telling you they are a menace to society! What are they looking for on that Dam I wonder? …grunt! …I was chased by a Goat once and I didn’t like it one bit….{{shudder}}….I hope there aren’t any Weregoats tonight…sniff!sniff!
9:38 am on September 22nd, 2010
Space weather is a site about space . . try this . .

9:42 am on September 22nd, 2010
Melanie, No we did not see the fireball, drat it, and the video won't work for us. We will check the websites of the local tv stations later and maybe it will be on the local news.
Molly, I was concerned about the bed bug problem when your mom and Sam's mom were traveling around, but mom told me not to say a word because she didn't want to alarm anyone. Rio didn't say anything either, and he is in the bed bug business. I am looking forward to hearing Rockie's report on the conference.
Dog parks would be an endless supply of dog poop.
9:48 am on September 22nd, 2010
TWINS!!! Yahoo!!!!
I was asleep last night when they 'clinched'. I was sure they were going to lose. Heh.
YaHOO!

Hey!…. Did you guys know it was Elephant Appreciation Day today??…snort!snort!…. How fitting because we here sure appreciate Peanut the Elephant!….snort! …
10:00 am on September 22nd, 2010
Hmmmphf!…I wondered how long it would take you two knitwits to finally realize your team cinched the playoffs…grumble!
10:05 am on September 22nd, 2010
Siber-H – If you remember (and I know you don't), Rio was going to come along on the trip to NYC to protect us. Then he changed his fussy puggily mind because he wanted to romp in Central Park. Mom said the doorman would take him, but no. We weren't going to be doing the things HE wanted to do.
10:16 am on September 22nd, 2010
Rio could have sent Rockie and his hillbily gang to protect you, but he didn't. I wonder why. Awww They would have been in the trees in Central park drinking beer and not doing a lick of bed bug work.
10:18 am on September 22nd, 2010
MollieBP: I don't know if you have a Facebook account, but if you do, type Warehouse 13 in the search box. Most of the comments about last night's finale say they want Myka back next season. There also seems to be a question of there being a third season. Apparently we won't know officially until October. (Syfy would be showing very poor judgment if they didn't renew.)
There is also a few review articles that indicate that there will be a stand-alone Christmas episode. I haven't been able to find out anything about Joann Kelly/Myka. If she wants to leave the show, I would have thought they'd have some dramatic killing-off scene. (In last year's finale we thought that Artie might be dead….but of course he reappeared.) Since they've left it open, I think there is a chance that Myka will be back. (These cliff-hanging finales irritate me. The manipulation isn't necessary.)
10:38 am on September 22nd, 2010
Rio, The Werepug – that should give him some new fodder for stories. Rio, how wild can you be if you can't leave your yard?
It is all dark and cloudy here this afternoon. Late yesterday afternoon we had 60-70 mph winds, some hail and rain that was coming down so hard that we couldn't see the road. Lots of damage in Chicago area and 25,000 households out of power.
10:51 am on September 22nd, 2010
Only one knitwit is a die-hard Twins fan, Rio. I'll decline to name my teams because they are such big losers this year.
The bookmobile for the homebound patrons couldn't go to one of their stops yesterday because there was a bedbug outbreak! Egad, they've made it out west!
10:55 am on September 22nd, 2010
Barb & MagPie, We're supposed to be getting the 'Remains of your day' from yesterday. So far the storms have gone to the north and to the south of us.
Werepugs vs Weregoats . . . Who would win?
11:12 am on September 22nd, 2010
Watch out Dawson,
The Twins vs the Tigers starts Friday.
Heh heh heh
Sorry to be so slow Rio, You could have put it up on the Blog for us Kats you know. You love to be so helpful!
Heh
11:21 am on September 22nd, 2010
The Tigers so need to win that series.
11:21 am on September 22nd, 2010
Werepugs?
Gosh. Now there's a vision for you.
Pondering…..
11:22 am on September 22nd, 2010
That goat picture makes us shaky just looking at it. I wonder how many of them get down alive.
Weregoats for sure.
We are just plain bored.
11:24 am on September 22nd, 2010
Alice!…When have you ever known me to be helpful??…snort! …Especially to K-A-T-S with fluffy dyed tails….heh!
11:24 am on September 22nd, 2010
The wild boars are tormenting all the neighborhood lawns.
The towntown (think Beauty and the Beast) are in a frenzy….they want to SHOOT the boars.
Gulp.
Mom is upset by this. She does not beleive in hurting living creatures unless they happen to be bedbugs or other sneaky insects.
11:26 am on September 22nd, 2010
Does anybody know where the Giants stand? Mom is thinking about surprising dad with tickets for his birthday. Assuming of course, that tickets are affordable. We live about 3 hrs away from ATT Park Or so I've heard.
11:28 am on September 22nd, 2010
Astrid….
Pondering again.
We need to move forward on our Story because once TFAT comes out we will be otherwise involved! (I won't get mine until after October 2nd.) As Rio would say, dagnabbit!
11:30 am on September 22nd, 2010
Rio, darling,
This tail is bleached, NOT dyed.
Hummppphhh!

Dawson, The Tigers have a chance to be number 2 in our division. But they have to win a few….hmmmm? Maybe after the next three games?
Heh
11:51 am on September 22nd, 2010
Wolfie: Here are the standings (wins)for the West as of now:
Giants – 85, Padres – 84, Rockies – 82, Dodgers – 73, Dbacks – 60
Of course that could change later I guess.
12:29 pm on September 22nd, 2010
SiberH!…They won’t let us down tonight pal…snort!… I’ve called in a few favors…heh!
12:41 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Macy MinPin: 100% of those goats made it down. They skip up and down mountains. Frolicking like Newfies who have just jumped over the fence.
I read that those boars are a delicacy in Europe. They can't get enough of 'em.
Six days left until TFAT.
12:44 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Goats!… All their skipping doesn’t fool me!…grunt!…They are up to something evil! Mark my words!…growl!
1:08 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Great Rio, We are ready for the Rockies to win, especially against the Snakes, of all the teams to start losing to. Jimenez is probably pitching tonight. CarGo has a sore wrist, poor guy.
I bet those boars are tough. There are no chupacabras in Italy, so whatever those goats are up to, they are free to wreck havoc.
1:15 pm on September 22nd, 2010
B.Stover: Thanks for the Warehouse 13 info. I don't have a Facebook account. I probably couldn't figure it out anyway. I just trust this blog. I agree with you re cliff-hanging finales.

We have been away for a couple of hours, watching a very good movie from Netflx. It is called "Music Within" and is the true story of Richard Pimentel, who lost his hearing in Vietnam, came back to America, where he went on to become an activist for the disabled. His work lead to the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the story is very inspiration, as well as well performed.
2:02 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Melanie, Don't forget about CHET!
2:16 pm on September 22nd, 2010
He's on the list. Not sure what happened there. . .
2:26 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Dang! What an exciting night was had last night!! A relatively small storm came thru the land of no jobs (Grand Rapids MI) around 9p and many trees were uprooted and power lines down everywhere. My house was without power until about noon today. Many are still without power, and the "powers that be" are saying that some will be out until Friday! Whee! That's a long time. My 2-legged brother who lives in the neighborhood but NEVER calls his mom or visits enough decided he was bored and came over and talked our ears off! He is 23 and just full of adventure and fun. I like him okay, but don't know him well because I hardly ever see him…yet he drives right by my house every day. (Warning: do NOT get my mom started about this!) More about my mom and brother's adventure in another blog post.
2:41 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Jasper's mom here. Jasper was right about adventure. Since I am not working I volunteered to provide transportation for my nephew who is working 2nd shift at a local place. He is just out of high school and doesn't have a car or drive. Since my son was hanging out while the lights were off, he offered to ride with me to pick up the nephew. While driving in the POURING!! rain we notice a car that is weaving over 3 lanes of traffic, hits the curb, drives on the shoulder and going very slow. Son calls 911 to report a drunk driver and provides the location and license plate # to them. I have on my flashers and am doing my best to warn other drivers of the danger. We get to a red light and drunk car stops and is going to turn right. My son jumps out of my car and runs to drunk car, beats on the window, opens the door, then jumps in the car and pushes on the brake and puts the car in park! After about a minute my son comes back to my car completely soaked and tells me that the driver is a very pretty young girl with a 2-3 year old baby in the car in the back seat. She was not drunk! (Son deduced this by sniffing her!) She could not see out of her windshield and her wipers did not work. She was completely oblivious that she had run so many cars off the road or that she was weaving over 3 lanes. She was just trying to get home. My son offered her a ride, but was just a block from her house at that point. Son felt so bad for scaring the pretty girl, but then not so much because she endangered herself, her child and so many other drivers on the road. We wonder what she will say when the police catch up with her. Son says she was shaking with fear at him jumping in the car with her and yelling and sniffing at her, and he hopes that she learns a lesson. He did apologize for scaring her and told her to get her dang car fixed.

Jasper tell your mom to be careful what she wishes for. Our Angie was out on her own for 10 years, whatever that means. Then she decided to move in with us. She brought Holly and Biddie with her, which is fine with me since Biddie is one of my pups. However, our Angie takes some getting used to. She talks ALL THE TIME and usually about nothing. She gets on mom's nerves since it was always very quiet here before. Now she is giving us minute by minute updates on her apartment searching. We are afraid to hope that she might actually rent one. Mom loves her very much, but in smaller doses.
2:44 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Jasper, on tenterhooks here!

Oh boy!….She is watching Last Chance Highway again…snort!…How come all these guys don’t have homes anyways???….wheeze!… I thought you just grew up in one after you were born…sniff!
Jasper!…Very noble of your boy to jump in an unknown persons car!…gasp!…I have other visions of what may have happened all involving the kidnappers in Fargo but I will not terrify you with them…snort!…Just glad no one was hurt in this adventure…whew!
Rockie!…I’ve tried to contact Rockie and his gang of Hillbillies but they are not answering their cell phones or their hotel room phone….brother!… I have a bad feeling about this…snort!

Alice!…Oh, that’s right! You are a bleached blond ….heh!
4:14 pm on September 22nd, 2010
I guess there will be no report from Rockie tonight.
Jasper, your boy did do a very brave thing…not many people would have tried that. I hope the young lady was scared enough to think next time before she does something as stupid as what she did.
4:16 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Rio – I hope you didn't give Rockie our Special Mission credit card. There were some items I needed to use it for. Rockie could be having quite a par-tay right now. Bed bugs might be running around unchecked.
4:17 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Where is the werepug? You are looking pretty sedate so far this evening.
5:26 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Melanie, We finally got see video of the meteor streaking across the NM sky. One of the local tv stations has it on their website. There were a lot of calls about it to the tv staions when it happened last night. Mom and I must have been at the computer watching the Rockies lose.
4:38 pm on September 22nd, 2010
The equinox has happened. Rio has probably become a werepug. He's not around, Rockie's missing, oh my.
4:57 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Rockie!… I just got his report on the conference….grunt!…Not what I wanted to hear tonight…dammit!

WerePug!… I tried acting up earlier and was shot down immediately. You guys don’t know what it’s like living here with her….snort!… We are watching the Rockies game in the dark now with all the windows and doors locked so I can’t even see the big Full Moon…grunt!…I feel it though! I feel the power of the Moon!…grrrroooowwwl! …Rockie is really in for it. He was supposed to research the conference before I gave him that blank check …grumble!…Damn his flea infested hide …Wooooo!WooooooooWoooooooooooo!…cough!

SiberH!…She has had me in her Baseball Death Grip tonight on the couch…wheeze!…This game is very important and now it is only a one run game between the Snakes and the Rockies till they are tied top of the 4th…grunt!…It is early yet, but she is very worried about this series for some reason…gulp!…. Here she comes back from the toilet!…gasp! wheeze!
6:05 pm on September 22nd, 2010
We're worried about this series, also I mean, it is the blasted Snakes for crying out loud.
6:13 pm on September 22nd, 2010
Snakes!…I absolutely HATE them!…grunt!…Why Why Why!??? Are they now ahead by one run….snuff!…This sucks big time – my friend is beyond herself with worry and clutching me in the death grip….aacck!… Although, I am in close distance to the snacks now…heh! …One can always find something good in a bad situation if one really sniffs it out!…snorkel!!!

Ri-io,
Too bad Little Lexi isn't here to make you keep your snacky promise.

Hmmm, I'm watching the Rockies on Gameday. Pitcher just got the second out on strikes. But now I think he's being affected by the autumnal equinox or something…is loading up the bases for an easy out his strategy?
Hi Alice. Nice cheesecake picture earlier.

Fatty Kitty!
I missed you drat it all. I had to go take a few (11) pills. I also had some tomato toast as a little snack. No beer though. Too bad about the death grip Rio, love.
I did have some Pepin Heights Sparkling Apple Cider that I bought right at the Pepin Heights store in Lake City MN. YUM-O!

Our Rangers are tied 1-1 in the 10th against the Angels, drat, base hit. I would hit the chew strips, but at 12:12 it is just too late to care.
Macy out.
