New York Journal of Books

“If you like dogs and also whodunits, you’ll enjoy Scents and Sensibility, a mystery starting out small and building to a large and fiery climax at a music festival in the desert. Action-packed with a touch of the hard-boiled detective at its core plus witty canine dialogue, its narration is both creative and whimsical in a way only a true dog-lover and talented writer such as Spencer Quinn could achieve.”

Spence will be at Bank Square Books in Mystic CT tonight at 6.

Good morning all. Beautiful day here. Walkies, check, breakfast, check, now time to work on the desk and bookcase we are doing for Lyla’s 9/01 b-day.

This may be a first – a good review and the word read was not used as a noun. Yay!

Have fun in Mystic and have a pizza while you are there!

Looks like everyone must be having internet problems. No posts since this morning??

We are home, safe and sound and are being held down from floating away by Corgis (me) and Wrotten Kats (the Storyteller). Think they might have missed us a little.

I was having internet problems because Comcast was working on some cable around here. I think it’s fine now.

    Corgis and cats are happy.

We were wondering too if there were problems online. Going back outside before the rain starts.

Barb, Maggie & Lucy: I have not heard a thing.

When I’m having computer problems, I recognize how addicted I am to being online.

Gloomy rainy day – supposed to be this way for a week. Last time they said that we had beautiful sunny weather but this time they may have it right.

    Isn’t this the neatest quote

“Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born…What would this world be like without dogs?”

  25. Riö - The Evil Pug
    9:30 pm on July 20th, 2015

Useful!…We left off at pugs being useful…sniff!… He must strive to maintain a facade of utter melancholy, masking an inner world positively brimming with love, joy and undigested kibble. The well-bred pug understands that he must undulate between manic tomfoolery and near catatonic sleepiness, endeavoring to maintain a steady 20 hours of sleep per day. He will do well to heed the pug’s motto, Carpe Kibble (or “Sieze the Kibble”) and remember that foremost covenant of Pugdom:

You may lead a Pug to water, but you cannot make him have a bath. …snort!snort!

Does anyone eat corn on the cob with lime juice? Older son went through a phase with that. It was hot and humid today. Ugg. Tomorrow should be better. I have not yet used my air conditioner but may ask younger son to put it in the window tomorrow.
Hurray for rain in the Southwest!

Now Someone Here is telling us we must wait a Long, Long Time for the next installment in Our Favorite Mystery Series. All the way to 2016 in fact…next year…is that more than 2 Months away? Is it even possible to wait that long?
All we can say is…anyone who has not yet started reading this most excellent book should begin doing so Immediately.
We predict you will not be able to put it down.

Mama opened her package with SAS that arrived Friday afternoon. She noticed Gramp eyeing it, so she let him have the first crack at it. She is currently in Egypt with Amelia Peabody, and things are about to get interesting.

Martha – back when Mama could eat corn, she loved to grill it, and then roll it in melted butter, lime juice and salt.
    Sometimes with chili powder too.
She misses corn on the cob. sigh

Rio – there is a whole committee of people who think your Friend should write a book. It should be all about you, you, you, from chuffling nose to curling tail.

    Rio: Excellent snippet!

CHobbit: I just saw your quote from 5:46 and I concur. I love all you dogs. Tummies all around!

Hound’s Mom: Glad to hear your eyes are almost A-OK.

I’m watching a show about the Dust Bowl. My eyelids are getting heavy.

Queenie!…One day when My Friend pukes in her so-called bosses face and says “I’m Done!!” then maybe a really true book about “The Life and Times of A Certain Pug” will be written. It will not be fiction, but almost biographical…snort!

  39. Queen Tupper and Court Jester Gilly

And on the cover of the book will be a picture of a big, potted plant along with a bucket of beer.
