One thing I disagree with in the review is the description of Bowser as a “talking dog.” I don’t think he is.

Rio: My copy is autographed! Heh!

Guys, Mom is going to see SQ in Houston next month. She will be carrying her Woof copy for the pawtograph as well as buying the new C&B book. She will, of course, also get it on the Kindle and have it read by then.

One of our favorite quotes from this excellent review:
“But then he solves the problem with careful, exact word choice, something lesser talents may ignore.”
In our opinion, Woof already is a classic.
BooBear: Lucky mom! Hope the rain stops by the time OFA comes your way.

Couple of minor points: Birdie’s friend is not named Tory, Bowser is not a talking dog, and did you see the last line? Other than that, a decent review.

Morning all. I am at work, but just till 1:30, then some quick errands and then home.

Nice day here today, but we seem to be in a pattern of rain every weekend. Bummer for the folks that have to work all week.

We just read the review. We like it, except for that talking dog part, and “narrates much of the story”….much? How about ALL, Amigo.

Simply put, SQ is a genius.

Tupperware (Sorry, but I love that), How goes it with the balusters for the deck? Do you have to replace all of them, or can you find a match and just fill in? Are you going to post a picture of the finished product?

Bowser is a narrating dog, not a talking dog. Harumph!

New fence is almost done. Deck guy should be back today, and things should be progressing well. We will be sure to post pics once it is all done.
(We think the neighbors are all growing extra long noses to poke into what we are doing)

Tupper, That is what noses are for! Poking into things that are not their business. I often have wondered why cats are called curious when their noses are not nearly as long as most dogs. Rio excluded.

    Delightful!
My copy of Woof should be here by Monday.

    Read!
BStover: Don’t read the last sentence of the review. It’s just Spencer trying to get your goat again.

Road Rash: The man who lives in this house fell off his bike yesterday trying to negotiate a small curb. Both hands and one knee have road rash. One elbow is not bending properly. One pinkie is all black and blue. One tshirt ruined but it saved his stomach from road rash. 🙂 He was wearing a helmet. I am taking him to the doctor to assess all of the above. He said he didn’t want to ride his bike. This is the new bike he got last week from Staples. Who knew Staples sells bikes?

I am a very nosey neighbor. Might be partially due to background in realestate/insurance and house rehabbing. When anyone in the subdivision lists their home, I immediatly hop on realtor.com and look at all the pictures. That’s not wrong is it?

Howlers, that is one of my pet peeves too. Even worse, my neighbor always says “Me and….”. as in “Me and Mikey are going to Walmart” Gah, she soulds like a 6 year old! When Chet says “Me and Bernie” it is cute, but not when it is said by an adult human.

It is just that Rio always has impeccable grammar. Or at least, his friend does.

  21. B.Stover
    1:57 pm on June 19th, 2015

As I’ve mentioned before, “read” is listed in the dictionary as a noun with an “informal” usage. It still irritates me immensely.

Regarding “I” or “me” the test is simple: remove the compound subject. “All fun stuff is cancelled for me this summer.” After testing, you can add the compound subject (of the prepositional phrase in this example): “All fun stuff is cancelled for my friend and me this summer.” (“Stuff” is the subject of the sentence. “Me” is the objective case of “I” and is needed when the person referred to is the object of the sentence and not the subject of the sentence as in the example.)

  22. Rio - The Evil Pug
    2:22 pm on June 19th, 2015

But!…For some reason Me! doesn’t sound right to Me! in that sentence…sniff!…I and Micky are whatever- does not sound right to Me! either…grunt!

  23. B.Stover

I found a new wine a Krogers (new to me): Trivento from Argentina and it’s a Malbec! I’ll try it this evening.

  24. B.Stover
    2:27 pm on June 19th, 2015

Rio: “Micky and I are going to do some fun stuff this summer” would be correct because the subjects of the sentence are the “Micky” and the “I.” One just has to keep in mind that “me” is not a subject but an object.

Kroger gave me a special bag for the wine bottles. (The bag is made of material and is meant to be reused.) On it they list the names: Kroger, Food 4 Less, QFC, Fred Meyer, Raiphs, Smith’s, Fry’s, Baker’s, Gorbes, Dillons, King Scoopers, City Market, and Jay C. (I assume those are all the names for the store. I’ve always gone to Hiller but Kroger has taken it over.)

  33. O'Howlers

We can’t get wine in grocery stores either. We have to buy from our State Liquor Stores, most of which carry a very limited selection. We do have one “boutique” store, with a very good selection of wines. They never have Cahors either, except last time when they had a $54 bottle! They do have lots of Malbec, and Mom does kove thise.
We can also buy wine from local vinyards. Beer must be purchased from state-licensed but privately owned beer distributors.

Dawson: The way we hear it, the man who lives in that house was popping a wheelie over a very large jump—not a small curb—on his way to save a herd of pug puppies, all while trying to deliver a batch of cookies to an elderly neighbor. The cookies were reported to have been made by said man from scratch.

  41. dawson

    Wine!
Cahors on-line. I am thinking about ordering some to keep up with the man-who-lives-in-this-house. He has a broken pinkie and will be doing lots of whine. Already on the way home, he was whining because I would not go to the A&W with him (for the second time today). I dropped him off and told him to call me if he wanted a ride home (it’s only 4 blocks away). I’m laughing thinking of him drinking his tea with his pinkey extended out – in a splint. Of course, this is great fodder for the crew he hangs out with. Snort!

BStover: I admit while reading your post of 1:57 my brain frizzled out at the point you were talking about “objective case”, then I just continued on to the next post without comprehending. But I knew the “me or I” test. You would not say, “All fun stuff is cancelled for I this summer.” So as I continued to the next post, I was thinking, “No you don’t! Go back and read it so you understand it.” But I didn’t. Then you posted at 2:27 and at that point I was very confused. Then after reading your post of 2:43 I went back to the 1:57 post and read it until I understood it and the same with your 2:27 post. I was afraid that if I told you your grammar explanation was a bit confusing, you would try again. 🙂 Clear as mud?

Dawson – Mama is chuckling over your (lack of) sympathy for the man of the house. They do find ways to get into trouble, don’t they.

So, the fence is up – all the neighbors have stopped by to say how much they like the look. But the deck guy never showed. Oh well.

Mama and the Storyteller took the day to take Gramp on a field trip for his birthday today. They went out last week to a carpet showroom, and picked out new carpets for his bedroom and den. Said carpets are being bound, but they took Gramp today to see the surprise. He loved the carpet they picked. And since in this house, the Birthday Celebrant gets to pick dinner, Gramp wanted Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Shrimp. With boiled Salt Potatoes, and sautéed zukes. And tiramisu for dessert.
Gramp said he has had a great day.

B&M&L: You asked Rio if Mother was behaving herself? Our best guess is yes. Anyone with keys to Mother Jail probably only gets a few claw out of line on rare occasion.

Wolfie: We hope you remain safe. Wyatt will help if you need to evacuate. A thief he may not be, but we think he is finding his niche.

Rio: If meat and gravy is misbehaving, we don’t want to behave.

    ML: Hugs! Loves! Wags!

Rio: If your friend is going to be taking care of your mother she is going to HAVE TO have some kind of relief on a regular basis or she will go NUTS in a hurry. If she isn’t already. Sorry to hear about your s i l. I was going to suggest you ask your brother to elder-sit while you went to see Spence.

I love meat, gravy, cheese and ice cream. It would be hard to stop eating cheese, especially.

    Big hugs back to ML.

Happy birthday to Gramps! The dinner and dessert are drool worthy.

Tupper’s Mama: I did have some sympathy for that man when he came dragging his road-rashy body home. I helped him wash all his bloody and dirty spots, applied hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic cream and bandaged where I could. He was shivering cold and I think he actually had a bit of shock so I tucked him into bed. But enough is enough and today is a new day. His road rash looks like it will heal in a couple days. He was barely moving when he crashed. That little finger does look bad. His doctor sent the xray to an orthopedic surgeon and will find out Monday what he recommends.

Martha: Congratulations on the beginning of your summer vacation.

Rio: We will have to verify on Wookie-pedia, but we are pretty certain that hot wings are not made with cheese, red meat, ice cream, or gravy. If this is true, you really can do this!
