New Year’s Eve

“Have fun and be safe, everybody,” says Spence.

“Walking is a good way to go,” says Admin. “No one ever gets stopped for WUI.”

And here’s a thing of beauty; haven’t shown it in way too long: the quilt made by the Plunderers and now hanging in the office where the Chet and Bernie stories get written.

Thanks for all the support! Tenzing and Wyatt were great pillows. I don’t remember the drive home except the last 5 minutes.

Moving is not high on my list for the day. List: sleep, find out if I passed the shunt test, sleep, dance with giraffes, sleep.

Macy: I hope things improve with you grandma.

I do remember sparkling blurs, a doctor falling down, and a lot of sparkles left on the equipment. Could it be I was visited by Smoochers?

    Need to sleep again.

    Our lovely quilt!

I think Hilton is beautiful. I wonder if he’s a race horse or a riding horse. He looks like a bay…right Howlers?

Tyb and Jay: Happy New Year to you as well.

Aw, Spence & Admin. That’s a nice post with memories to start a new year.

Hi, Diane. I’m a rescued blue point Siamese kat. We lurk more than we post but we love our Internet Reading Group.

Leo, the 21 year old quarter horse/paint thinks it’s pretty terrific that Hilton is FOM.

Wishing Everybody a Happy New Year’s Eve and happy 2014.

Hilton is our first equine FOM, right?

Diane, Bluecat is also one of our closest neighbors, residing in Indiana.

They just listed the 3 words for 2013 that should go away in the new year. They happen to be Barb’s 3 top Least Favorites – Selfie, Hashtag, and Twerk. Hashtag, as you know, makes Barb cringe.

We love seeing the Quilt. A few pictured are gone already. Sob

Good morning, and Happy New Year’s Eve to all. We will be upholding our usual tradition of sushi in front of the tv, watching a good movie or two.

We also have another tradition. We spend the day making two lists. One is all the bad things of this past year. The other is the things we are grateful for. We draw a heavy black line through the bad things, and decorate the list of good things with doodles of anything pretty. When we do our 9 o’clock prayer, we will burn both of those lists with sage, and let the smoke take both away the pain, and raise our grateful thoughts to the Creator.

This year, our Grateful list will start with “Leonard can walk again, and is free of pain”. It will also include “We have a wonderful family of friends on the blog” and “Nana came back to us” and so many other things. Guess we better get started writing.

    Things only Plunderers know.

A Double Dawson- For a while Dawson would post two identical posts. She finally discovered it was a faulty (computer)mouse but before that happened every double post was named a Double Dawson. She never did ‘hit for the cycle’ but she did get a triple Dawson once.

Carpola- Again Dawson. A misspelling of Crapola that has stuck.
Noswad- yup Awesome Dawson again. It is Dawson spelled backwards. She claims it does NOT rhyme with nose or Rose

Snigglefritz- Extreme exasperation, compliments of Melanie.

    anyone else have more?

That is a great start to The List, T & G. We will be here to join you for the prayer. That is such an important part of the blog for us.

Barb is going to go out and run errands this morning-library, post office, Fresh Market and Pasqueses for bird seed. Our little feathered friends are hitting the feeders hard and heavy in this extreme cold. We had about a hundred there at once yesterday, sparrows, doves, juncos mostly.

We will be here by ourselves tonight. They are expecting 6″ or more of snow in our area, so Josh will be out snowplowing rather than partying. Kelly and family are up at their lake house, and we are not going there in a snow storm. Going to pick up a nice appetizer of two and sit in front of the tv.

Good morning, All! Mom and Pop had an excellent night out dining and wining with the aunt and uncle. Bee, the wine list included Cahors, which made Mom very happy. However, after she ordered that, the manager returned to say they were out of it. 🙁
Dawson!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!! Dawson is coming Way Up North to Alaska too!!!!! Zowie!
Diane, we are 3 Siberian Huskies from PA, as Siber-H told you last night. Thanks, Siber. Dima is the perfect boy who is recoving quite well from an illness. Meashka is the “mama” of the pack, and we watch our Ps and Qs around her. Kat is the baby husky. Her real name is Katrina, but ahe does not know that.
We live with 4 horses (Hurray for Hilton! Yes we do believe he is a bay, Bee.) we also have a beautiful, though snotty, cat named T.C. And as of this year, we also have GAH! chickens.
We were not yet posting on this blog when that quilt was put together, and have regretted finding this site so late. The C&B books, we found as soon as they were published. We felt as you do when we started reading the posts here. Everyone seemed to know each other, and we had no idea what they were talking about. T&G told us to JUST ASK, and we sure did. So we advise you to do the same: JUST ASK.

Stovernia is presided over by Her Royal Highness Empress BStover. During baseball season there is a scrambling to get arrested and thrown into the Stovernia jail for one of her famous pies.

Diane, the Herd of Hounds is a lot smaller than it used to be (2 crossed the rainbow bridge this year) and there isn’t a hound among us. We’re Pookey, a 3 legged Aussie Shep & Chow, Lucy Lou the Labradoo(dle) and Darah Thea the almost year old Newfoundland. We share the house with our mom (Sharon) and the Daddy Dawg, aka Old Fart, aka Digger. The Peck of Parrots live here also, they are Amazon parrots and in the pond in the backyard is “sushi”. They are really goldfish but we like to bob for them and crunch them up 🙂 We live just outside of Chattanooga, no more choo, choo though.

Bee Stover is our retired English Professor and our grammar police. She is an expert in the Classics, and her knowledge puts the rest of us to shame. She also does not like baseball. Siber, Rio and Wose all like to talk sports and Bee, T & G and Barb are on the anti-sports side. That is why it was funny to hear Barb giving a play by play for the Bears game Sunday night.

Included in our household are: My daughter Annie, part of a litter of four with which I surprised Mom shortly after she adopted me and Belle, an obnoxious (of course) part pug, part chiwawa. Frequently, we are joined by our girl Angie’s pooches. They are Holly, a chug (see Belle) and Biddy, another of my four-pack. Mom has met IRL (Bee?) BooBear’s mom twice and Barb, of Barb and Maggie. Hi Gang – just got off the phone with Melanie. Sorry to say, the news is not good. The procedure she was having was to see if her body would tolerate radiation treatment for the tumor. Unfortunately, it will not. She has also been informed that the tumor has grown since October.

She is talking to the hospital and the doc about the next step. They wanted her to come in on Friday for discussions, but there is a large snowstorm being predicted for this area starting on Thursday and carrying over to Friday. The weather channel says “significant snow accumulation, with the likelihood of highways being shut down” on Friday. So, Melanie is calling them back to ask for a different day as soon as possible – we could go out to the hospital on Thursday, but there would be a very good chance that we wouldn’t be able to get back hone on Friday.
Yes, this is very hard on her. Yes, she is very frightened, and just very weary of all the loss and hard times she has had this past year. She needs to have some good news. She needs to have some easier times.
Of course, we are already sending up prayers for her, as we know you all are. Time to kick PlunderPrayers into high gear.

Dawson–that’s a most impressive skill, and I can think of a number of applications for it.
Tupper’s Mama–That really sounds like a good ritual for closing out the old year. I’m now thinking of a way to do a variation of it, since I’m usually unconscious by 9. (The better to hike up Mt. Hollywood bright and early New Year’s Day.) (When it isn’t raining.)
The quilt is so beautiful!! and I’m so late getting my own good wishes out to all you lovely people (and the Lovely Natasha, of course).

    4:59 pm on December 31st, 2013

Siber = that is very kind of you. Melanie has just talked to her doctor again, and it has been decided to see what the storm report is on Thursday. If it looks like the histrionic weather forecasters are off base again – we will make the trip to Boston. However, if the storm looks like it might be a direct hit, we would put the visit off for a day or two. The problem isn’t as much about getting to Boston – it is about being able to get home. Zoe would be home alone, and Gramp and the Storyteller are not really up to dealing with tons of snow on their own. Remember the story I told you about driving home from a show in a horrible snowstorm with them closing the highway behind us? That is the same highway we would be traveling to the hospital.
So – if the storm doesn’t sound too bad, we will go out on Thursday to be there for her Friday appointment, and get back home. If it is going to be bad, we will have to reschedule.

CHobbit: My store of sparkles took a big hit yesterday during the series of unfortunate events at the hospital. It quickly turned into a every-sparkle-for-themsleves situation. I hated to do it, but I had to let some glitter go. Pancho & Lefty are on a mission to, er, procure me more sparkles.

Diane: I am Luna’s dog. I have two mama’s. Luna is my four-legged mama and SnowBella is my two-legged mama. I’ve recently taken to calling the latter that damn pixie who stole my sparkles because I know she’s made off with some of my glitter to use as fairy dust. I like sparkly thing and pink things. Melanie said some girls are born with glitter in their viens and I think it is true. I want a baby kitten, piglet, horse and sloth, but so far that damn pixie who stole my sparkles has said no. Diane, blurring is how some of us get from one place to another quickly. It all started with Wolfie Wigglebutt. All his pictures were out of focus, and he said it was because he was blurring. Hi Liz! Happy New Year! It is already 2014 where you are. What do you think of it so far? Ruby is simply adorable.
Speaking of dressing up all sparkly for New Years Eve, Mom showered and dressed up in her very best: jeans (instead of sweats) and a simple black SNOWHOOK t-shirt!
They already ate their first course which was the largest shrimp we have ever seen, steamed in beer and dipped in some very spicy cocktail sauce. Mom is still smacking her lips. Crab legs are in the works as we speak.

Creator – we gather this family tonight to release the sadness, anger and pain from the past year, and to celebrate the joys and gifts we have. Please hear our voices and stay with us in the year to come.
On this earth, our lives are made of joys and sorrows. We may forget to cherish our gifts; we may become too saddened with our trials. In this year to come, we ask you to walk with us and help us to see all the goodness we have, and help us to bear the hard times with the support of those we love.
Creator – it has been a year of loss; the loss of many beloved family members, the loss of too many of our dear four legged children. But let it also be a celebration of their lives, the lessons they taught us, and their release from pain and illness. And let there be a celebration of those new souls among us, those of the little grandbabies, and nieces and nephews, the souls of little rescued kittens, and beautiful baby Newfs, Maltese and Golden Retrievers. We thank you for the love we receive from all.
Creator – it has been a year of illness and injury. The plague of drugs and alcohol has taken a toll on some of our loved ones while broken bones, cancer, and other ailments have afflicted others. But we have also had times of great celebration when Zoe and Nana both came back to us; that Truman and Rose and Staff and Judith and Barb and Sharon and Bev and Jim have beaten back their illnesses, and seen a return to health. At this time next year, let us be celebrating Melanie’s victorious fight, and the health, strength, sobriety and fortitude of all of our family.
It has been a year of trials and tribulations. Jobs and security have been lost; anxiety has deepened. But let us glory in the spirit of our family – let us rejoice in Rick’s new venture, and McKey’s career. Let us celebrate the trading in of a bony fingered boss, for a Hot Shot. We have had the joys of marriages, and homecomings and new homes and graduations; let there be jubilation for these new beginnings, and hope for even better days ahead.
Creator – we thank you most for the blessing of family and friendship. This group, brought together from around the world celebrates with each other, suffers with each other, laughs and cries and argues together. But most importantly, we support each other. You have heard our prayers for each other and lifted each of us in our time of need. As we go forward into this new year, help each of us be as good a person as the rest of the group perceive us to be. Let our bonds and love continue to make our lives happier and let our combined strength be the medicine to heal all wounds.
Creator – we gather this family tonight to release the sadness, anger and pain from the past year, and to rejoice in our victories, celebrate the your gifts and thank you for the many joys we have. Please hear our voices and stay with us in the year to come.

Why was the Safety checkpoint chosen for our family of the newf pack? Because it is a special checkpoint for us.

Safety was chosen two years ago in honor of our Lady’s stray Howard. She chose it then because she figured he had a tough go in life and he found safety the day he found her. Howard was her heart.

In 2011, Annabelle opted for an extended stay at the Safety checkpoint which is just 22 miles from the finish line. AJ could have dropped her and cut a few hours off his finish line, but he refused to leave her. She had been with him every step of his qualifying races and our training runs. Just like AJ refusing to leave Annabelle’s side, we refuse to leave Melanie’s side.

Snowbella: We know Howard was your heart. And Annabelle was AJ’s lead dog extraordinaire. She has run the Iditarod and touched the burled arch! It is fitting that Melanie & RiverBear Newfs get this checkpoint.

When I first came to Chet the Dog blog, I found that if I clicked on Melanie’s name I went to the RiverBear Newfoundland’s Blog and there were the most fun-loving dogs I’d ever experienced all documented by photos and narrative by Melanie. (And a free book to read, written by the Raven.) Whenever I felt down, I went to that site and got energized with pure happiness ala Chet the Dog, in the present, life doesn’t get any better than this, joy. Now Melanie needs the Plunderers to help her get this feeling and needs Safety from the pain and loss of the last year (or two). This is her checkpoint and it is from all the Plunderers for the Safety of our dear friend Melanie.

I think Spence and Admin must be gone this morning. Maybe that is why the new FOM was put up yesterday.

When I make a donation I send a check directly to Snowhook Kennel. Not sure if everyone does it that way.

We have 6-8″ of snow so far and snow will continue the rest of the day. Good thing I don’t have those sawed-off legs!
