Nantucket (More)
“How did it go?” says Admin.
“Very well, I thought,” says Spence. “The beer was great. There was also a cool band and lots of members of the nation within running around. This was out at the Cisco Brewery place. It’s so beautiful and – “
“Publicist called. She said to ask how many books you signed.”
“I certainly signed books.”
“Publicist is looking for an actual number.”
“An actual number?” says Spence. He thinks for a while. “The Bailey’s was excellent.”
“What are you talking about?”
“It’s a new ale they’re doing. Light but hoppy at the same time. Went down very easily.”
Welcome Annie.
To the couple at Wellesley Booksmith with the 2 beautiful Goldens who gave Spence the salmon chews: Audrey loved them!

Good morning all. We should be getting our signed copy of Dog Who very shortly. We are up to Chapter 6, Barb is trying to drag it out, because it is always so bittersweet when she gets to the end. Since SQ is not James P. he can’t pop out a new one every 4-6 weeks!
Things to do around here today, then tomorrow Barb is going to Staples to see what they can do on more copies of the cookbook.
G & B, do you want Barb to do a copy for you? Anyone else?
9:21 am on September 17th, 2011
I’d like one. Mom won’t share. She says I drool too much. (She’s right, of course. It’s not as if I can help it.)
9:25 am on September 17th, 2011
Wolfie, What are you doing up so early?
So are you saying you want me to put you down for 1 copy if I have some success with this?
9:35 am on September 17th, 2011
Admin: Stop interrupting Spence. I want to hear about Cisco Brewery. (Publicists and administrators….what can you do….)
Good morning all.
9:45 am on September 17th, 2011
Barb: yes, please.

Greetings All:
Thank dog it is the weekend, and a beatiful one at that!!
B: Hi,there! I wrote to Melanie and told her it was fine to forward my e-mail to you. Hope she got my message.
Rebecca: I hope the Prof gets a chance to do some sight-seeing while at SLC. He is attending a Gates Grant conference for his school.
Belle: I know you will do a good job of keeping an eye on your mama, while taking care of me. I will take very good care of you both. I’m wondering….isn’t Rebecca going to miss you both?
Hi Dawson: That is sooo cool that you got the Little Mismatched socks! They are so much fun to wear, and always a conversation starter.
B&M: Keeping fingers crossed that your signed copy will be delivered to you soon!!!
10:16 am on September 17th, 2011

11:16 am on September 17th, 2011
Good Morning Everyone!
Barb&Magpie: Put us down for one too. Like Wolfie’s mom, Nana won’t share. She says the one Wookie sent us is so beautiful she could never give it away as a gift. A keepsake she says.

Bypass!….Did someone mention something about heart surgery the other day?…snort!…It’s been a stressful morning around here. First thing her mother gets news that her sister who lives a ways from us has had a heart attack and they are transferring her here for emergency heart surgery….wheeze!… Her mother’s sister has not been well lately what with a bad bout of pneumonia and other ailments. They are very worried that she may not make it through the surgery. She is a skinny little thing without an ounce of fat on her, but she smokes and drinks a lot of coffee. In fact that’s all I’ve ever seen her eat is coffee – in-between puffs…snuffle!…Her mother rushed up to the hospital to see her sister before she went into surgery. We are staying here and holding down the fort…sniff!
11:41 am on September 17th, 2011
Rio: I hope your friend’s aunt pulls through okay.
11:54 am on September 17th, 2011
Aha! As I suspected, Spence DID enjoy a brew yesterday. Members of the nation within were there too. That is really kool. No mention of kats though. What’s up with that? Whether Chet knows it or not, he has attracted quite a following of the feline variety.
There was some discussion yesterday about the Borzoi “masquerading” as The Pet Engineer. snicker. As Rio said, her unusual accent sounded like she was attempting to disguise another accent. It ended up sounding strangely like a mouth full of potatoes, as my friend’s aunt would say. But not offensive in the least, only different. I enjoyed listening to her program. Side note: Natasha has not checked in lately.
Rose: It is good to know Belle-Starr and her mama will be there to keep you company when the Prof is in Utah. Bella, I recommend advising the two of them not to travel by air as there have been some problems of late on that front. Perhaps Wolfie would agree to use his blurring talents for the occasion.
11:59 am on September 17th, 2011
Rio! I am so sorry to hear the news about your friend’s sister. All paws crossed here for a Good outcome. Prayers for you all coming your way.
12:06 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio: Sending Good Thoughts and Prayers to your Friend and her sister. I know she is comforted knowing you are there holding down the fort while she is going through this stressful time.
12:47 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio, we too are crossing our paws for your friend’s aunt? sister? We are not sure if it is your friend’s mom’s sister or your friend’s sister, but either way we hope for the best.
Today, Mom and Pop got up real early because they need to get everything ready for the F.U. (!!) next weekend. Before starting all that work, Pop hopped in his truck and ran for pellets. Unloaded those and ran for the next load. Mom helped him unload those. Then Pop got the truck stuck in the wet part of our yard. So the entire rest of the morning, and into the afternoon was spent working to get that out. Mission: Accomplished. That is, 2 things accomplished. 1) Truck is out, and 2) yard is torn up. Carpola! You should have heard the words coming out of Pop when that Ferd got stuck. Lots worse than Carpola, and F.U. wasn’t standing for Family Reunion. heh heh
Spence sounds like he had a really great time at that book signing. Boy, he sure is a jet-setter the way he is traveling far and wide all over Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York. Wonder what happens to him if he ever tries to leave New England.
Wonder what those salmon chews taste like.
1:44 pm on September 17th, 2011
I’m glad that some members of the Nation within a Nation are getting to meet Spence. We are his biggest fans.
I am going to order some salmon chews online as soon as I find them. I know they are there.
Mom went out to buy a new chainsaw this morning. She did not buy it at the big orange box.
Rio, I hope your friend’s aunt comes through the surgery okay. I remember you telling us about her.
1:49 pm on September 17th, 2011
Correction and apologies for misreading the post. It is Rio’s Friend’s Aunt (mother’s sister) who is in the hospital.
1:50 pm on September 17th, 2011
Hey! What happened to my avatar!
1:53 pm on September 17th, 2011
Me too, Rio. Wasn’t paying attention. Thanks Howlers for the correction.
2:03 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio. Just to let you know that our prayers and thoughts are with your friend and her mom. Wookie, mom and dad
3:08 pm on September 17th, 2011
My girl came home yesterday and, buy, did I ever play it cool. That should teach her to go away and leave me. I finally relented and allowed her to pet me.
Sam’s Mom here: Sammie was so excited she just ran and ran. We had trouble getting her calmed down, just so you know. Cool? Hardly.
3:12 pm on September 17th, 2011
I think that the interviewer is Italian and she speaks English, Spanish and Italian.
3:14 pm on September 17th, 2011
Isn’t it interesting how you can have several interpretations of the same incident. Just like reader response criticism.
3:28 pm on September 17th, 2011
Riö: thoughts and prayers blurring your friend’s aunt’s way.
We had an emergency vet visit this morning. Franklin was fine last night and this morning Zoë couldn’t find him. He was behind a chair hiding. He didn’t want to eat and his temperature was 103 degrees.
Our vet was not in, so we asked my sister to see if her vet was in. She was and she knew our vet and her husband used to be one of his techs. He knew Frank!
Off we go with Franklin and Patsy. By the time we got there Frank’s temp was up to 104. He hid his head the whole time so he was invisible. On the other paw, Patsy had a delightful time and got lots of treats.
Many blood tests and palpations later, Frank’s white cell count was low, but he had no hurting in his bug. So either a virus or an infection. She gave him a shot of Medicam to bring his fever down and he’s on heavy duty antibiotics.
He’s doing better and ate his dinner.
Whew . . .
I think I’m going to hide my head and try becoming invisible.
3:30 pm on September 17th, 2011
“bug” was supposed to be “gut”. Not sure why I was corrected on that. Wish I could find my computer glasses.
4:31 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie: Poor Franklin. I hope he gets better soon.
4:33 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie: Thank dog Franklin is feeling better. You can always tell by the appetite improving. Franklin trying to be invisible. That must have been something to see!
Sammy: So nice to hear you are enjoying the weekend with your girl.
Siber-H: Let us know if you find out where to order the salmon chews.
4:37 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie, Tell Franklin we are thinking of him and hope he has a quick recovery. Eating is a good sign.
5:14 pm on September 17th, 2011
B: The interpretation of the event is in the mind of the reader/listener/viewer. As in Roshaman, the Japanese film, wherein one event is retold in 3 different ways. “When you read a book or listen to something your mind makes it up based on personal experience” and I would add – personal prejudices. So which one is true? There is no one truth.
5:14 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio and Melanie: Good thoughts and prayers being sent your way. Please keep us posted on both.
Siber-H: have you ever had Yummy Chummies? Maybe they are just an Alaskan thing?—there are sled dogs on the packaging.
5:22 pm on September 17th, 2011
Belle-Starr: Sure would like to have some of those. Yummy Chummies…Even a name that sounds good. You can buy most anything online these days. I’ll bet Siber-H is going to check on their availability State-side as we speak.
5:29 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rebecca, hmmm I have never had Yummy Chummies. Mom can look for them in the pet stores.
Some of you guys are having trouble dealing with the fact that the interviewer is the Borzoi on a secret spy mission…cleverly disgusing her accent.
We don’t want this info to get beyond the blog.
5:30 pm on September 17th, 2011
I couldn’t wait! Guys look at this >

5:32 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie, Franklin thinking he is invisible reminds me of peek-a-boo with my youngest grandson, Jackson who is 2. He also thinks noone can see him if he hides his eyes.
Well had a showing today. Decided to try something different to see if it changed our luck. We told no one, not even Barb’s kids. Alas, it didn’t help. Weird showing – city people, early 50s with 10-TEN kids! 2 younger ones still at home, one older one moved back. Husband loved, loved, loved the house and property. But get this, wifey does not drive, never has. Didn’t say hardly a word, jumped when she saw a spider in the barn door, so wouldn’t go in. Who would want to live out here and not be able to go anywhere? Husband told the realtor they would go home and talk about it and he hopes he gets his wish. Guess he wants to move out here and she doesn’t. This will be a real shocker if they make an offer. Why can’t we find find a couple who both love it!
5:35 pm on September 17th, 2011
Siber-H: I know you are right about her being the Borzoi.
5:57 pm on September 17th, 2011
Bear and Belle Starr!! WOO WOO Thanks guys.
I just found Yummy Chummies on Amazon!
Mom says ordering them online is a lot easier than driving to the pet stores.
6:50 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie and Rio: Sending good thoughts and prayers for quick recoveries for both.
Sam: Hope you and your girl are having a great time together!
6:51 pm on September 17th, 2011
I remember getting The Pack dried salmon pieces. Now I THOUGHT they were chews. Silly me. I handed one out (6 to 8 inches long) to each member and they were gone in two chews. Actually I don’t think they chewed them, I think inhaled is a better word.
Bella, do those last awhile or are they treats?
I told Franklin of your concerns and prayers. He wagged his tail and asked to have Rose removed from his yogurt.
6:52 pm on September 17th, 2011
Where, oh where did my avatar go…Where, oh where can it be?
6:56 pm on September 17th, 2011
Hello again,
Its raining here again. What else is new.
We are hoping Franklin is getting over his infection. Lots of people with infections these days too.
Rio, any update on your friend’s aunt?
Belle Starr, we have those Yummy Chummies in our Pet Pantry here at home. We get them when we do the Tails on the Trails Walk with the Sibe Rescue.
7:10 pm on September 17th, 2011
Hi Masquers:
I feel better already knowing that Belle and her mama will be here to keep me safe!
7:38 pm on September 17th, 2011
I’m twirling, I’m twirling…I’m hanging my head. I finished the book and the book is finished. I started reading the dog who last night around 11 with the idea that I would read just the first chapter, but it went by quickly. Reading the second chapter couldn’t hurt, could it? And, maybe just one mored. Before I knew it, it was hours after 11 pm and I couldn’t put the book down. To quote a favorite character—has this ever happened to you? It was wonderful—Thank you Spence!
Melanie: For our pack, they are a quick treat!
7:40 pm on September 17th, 2011
Melanie, We are saving K. W. bean seed again. Also leek seeds. Have you ever grown those? They are sort of like giant mild onions. Not sure what to do with them, other than leek soup. I bet T & G’s mama knows what to do with them.
Anyon want leek seed for next year?
7:41 pm on September 17th, 2011
Bella, I felt the exact same way. Then after one day, I read it again, but I was able to take it slowly!
7:47 pm on September 17th, 2011
Bella, Boy, Barb thought she was losing control. We has been trying to stretch it out, but today is up to chapter 10. You are right, it is hard to put down.
8:19 pm on September 17th, 2011
Then we are not the only ones. It is getting harder and harder to put the book down. How does Wookie do it!
8:38 pm on September 17th, 2011
Book. Speaking of which……I’ll see you in the morning – Bear
8:42 pm on September 17th, 2011
Good night all.

Me too! Hitting the sox, I mean sack . . .
TTFN
8:48 pm on September 17th, 2011
BSD: Could it have anything to do with his super extensive spy training? At Snowhook, we’re at the agent-in-training level so we don’t know all the how-to’s, yet.
I wonder if Rio ever got even a nibble of the spice cakes his friend made.
Sam: I have no doubt you played it cool. Enjoy your girl!
9:24 pm on September 17th, 2011
We are going to join all the other party poopers and sign off. Good night, don’t let the bed bugs bite!
10:18 pm on September 17th, 2011
Vait just minutes here. Who dares say Natasha speaks vith mouthful of potatoes that are mashed? Natasha has BEAUTIFUL diction. Ve speak many langvaches vith no accent. Ve speak like native americans. But not like Cherokees.
Is much going on both blog. Natasha had to take fairy’s boat to Nantucket to keep eye on Spence. Ve know that vith von too many beers he might give avay secrets that should not be given avay. Sold maybe, but never given avay.
By the vay- is ridiculous that Plunderers vould be President. Too very many Kats, and playdogs.
But Rebecca- ve could like to also be dogmother to baby puppies
And if Luke comes to live vith Hiwlers, ve think name should be Kasmir. Is good strong name. Vas Natasha’s papa’ s name.
Also is place called SitStay.com has most delicious salmon skin jerky chews. Is Natasha’s favorite snack.
10:49 pm on September 17th, 2011
Gone!… Well crap!…snort!…Now that everyone is gone I finally can get back on the blog…grunt!…Here’s the skinny. My friends Aunt will survive without having to have heart surgery….yippee!….The blood clots were dissolved with medicine apparently, although they did have to put some stints*? In some of her arteries….snuff!…Heck I don’t know for sure what they did, but she is doing a lot better now, and will definitely live till the next time a blood clot forms which could happen because of all that smoking…grunt!…She doesn’t eat right and she smokes constantly so a form of plague builds up in her arteries. Just another reason not to smoke. I hope Bernie is reading this…heh!
Franklin!… I sure hope Franklin is doing better. Sounds like Melanie got him to the doctor in time and he will get over whatever he bad bug he caught…sniff!…Hang in there Pal, you will be fine!…snort!
10:56 pm on September 17th, 2011
Hey!…There’s the illusive Natasha!…snort!… I could have sworn I was out here all alone when I started posting and then wham! there she is on the twilght side of things…heh!… Notice how she never once denied being the Pet Engineer imposter asking poor Spencer all those questions about Audrey….snort! …Mark my words, she is up to something…gruffle!
11:04 pm on September 17th, 2011
Today!….After the really big scare with her Aunt, my friend decided she was indeed going to go to the English Tea Party Wedding Shower which she had made oh so many little tea cakes for…gurgle!….She put frosting on all of them, packed them up and took them to the party. They were a big hit I guess. All the ladies loved them. She stayed late to help her best friend and some other gals clean up the joint after the party….snort!…Then, get this, she said the four of them went to The Rio for drinks!…woooo!…I did not know this, but there is a place in town called The Rio which serves outrageous margaritas and outstanding Mexican food…heh!…Sounds like my kind of place! I bet they named it after Me!…chorkel!…Well, anyway she got home late and talked to her mom about the party, and how her aunt was doing and then finally we came downstairs to watch the end of the Rockies game and catch up with you guys….snorke! …Is anyone still up????…wuffle!
11:07 pm on September 17th, 2011
Chat!…Anybody?…Chet? Chat?…heh!…Wouldn’t it be awesome if Chet came down here in the comments section to chat tonight….wheeze!…That would be amazing…sniff!
11:12 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio: Glad to hear your aunt is recovering. Rio’s for drinks—I can’t imagine that it isn’t named after you.
11:14 pm on September 17th, 2011
aha my little Spugnik Your Natasha is still here to talk vith you. Ve are happy to hear the Tante vill be ok. If only she vill stop the smoke. Maybe this vill scare her to stop.
Next time ve are in town ve vill get permission for you to lave yard and ve vill go have the drinks of Margaret at the Rio. Until then you must be good little Pug and not go vithout Natasha
11:18 pm on September 17th, 2011
This will surprise you…I am still up but fading fast.
I just stopped by to say good night and am glad to see the Borzoi and Rio reporting in.
It is reassuring to know Natasha has been on the job. (I think)
Rio, That is good news about your friend’s aunt. We have been thinking of you and your family today.
I hope Franklin feels much better tomorrow.
Night All

11:27 pm on September 17th, 2011
AJ tried to take Rio Jr’s picture tonight, but they didn’t turn out well on account of someone refused to hold still.
11:28 pm on September 17th, 2011
Alright!…Now we got a blog party!…woooo!… I am 100 percent sure they named that restaurant after Me!…heh!…She said it is downtown and a very nice place with a big outdoor patio, just right for all of us guys…snort!… So maybe next time I will get to go there too!…wooo!…With Natsha of course….grunt!
SiberH!…I can’t believe you are still up. Did you at least watch some of the Rockies game tonight?….snort!… The Giants are still winning by three…dammit!….Are you still on schedule for the Secret Underground Mission Headquarters?…heh!…Dig away my friend! Dig away!…wooo!
Staff!…Always off to somewhere. Tonight she is off to bed…grunt!…Goodnight Staff!…Give Alice a swift kick for me…heh!
11:34 pm on September 17th, 2011
Photos!…They are the bane of my existence …grunt!… Very glad to see that Rio Junior has the same feeling I do about the whole thing….snort!… Camera comes out we move fast and furious to anywhere dark and underneath something if possible…heh!…On the rare occasions I stop for a photo it is because I am very distracted with other things, like food, a friend called Pepper, or threats to my life…grunt!…This happens way too often for my liking…sniff!
11:35 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio: we called the time off death tonight on gathering firewood. Your friend will be warm, warm, hot in March!
I hope Siber-H get some sleep so he can continue with his construction project.

Good night my darling little Puglet. Goodnight Staff and Siber and Rebecca.
Good morning Liz. And how is the Frobisher?
11:42 pm on September 17th, 2011
Firewood!… What a huge relief for my wimpy friend…grunt!….She is always cold or always hot, I’m not sure which…sniff!… Then her tail and ears get cold and she needs to get further under the covers….sniff!…I hope there is no thunder storms there in Alaska, cuz she is scared of those and makes a real nuisance of herself over them…grunt!… I’ll make sure she knows there will be enough wood a’burning to keep
my toesher feet warm during our stay…heh!11:44 pm on September 17th, 2011
Natasha: Good night and sweet spy dreams.
11:47 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio: I doubt we’ll have thunderstorms in Alaska in March, but we can as WeatherKat when we get closer. Two words: electric blanket.
11:50 pm on September 17th, 2011
Dreams!…One does wonder what Natasha dreams about…snort!…But not me, I know what she is dreaming up. She is dreaming up some scheme to dawg-nap Audrey….sniff!….Wookie has been put on High Amber Alert – all is well with the world. …grunt!
11:52 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rebeccer!… I have a feeling that Electric Blanket and I will become very good friends….heh!
11:56 pm on September 17th, 2011
Rio: Speaking of which, I think I’m going to pre-heat the bed. Siber-H’s advice to Rose for the Professor’s trip to Utah also applies for your trip North to Alaska—layer up!
11:59 pm on September 17th, 2011

Rebeccer!… We are spending tons of walking time trying to lose “layers”….sniff!…Now you are telling us to keep our layers…grunt!…I don’t think she will go for this at all. She is on a mission to lose a few layers…sniff!…And she’s taking me along for the ride…wuffle! wheeze!
12:08 am on September 18th, 2011
Grump!….Well, I could post all night long, but she says we are going to bed because she’s had a very very long day….sniff!…Tomorrow will be a better day. I thought today was a pretty good day after all. No one died and everyone ate Cake!…heh!…Good night all and thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers for our family today. They are all (always) very much appreciated…snort!
12:08 am on September 18th, 2011
Rio: Layers of clothes are different than other layers. Sweaters or fleece for indoors, nothing fancy.
12:42 am on September 18th, 2011
A quick hello and good-night from me. It was a pack and travel day. Down to a conference for a couple days. A beautiful drive with the trees dressed in their fancy fall foliage and the sun shining…well, until it set.
I’m glad Rio’s friend got out to enjoy herself at Rio’s and that her Auntie is okay, at least for now.
And that Franklin’s trip to the vet turned up nothing serious.
