Spence! While in Mystic, be sure to stop for pizza!!!
Good morning.
8:21 am on August 20th, 2014
We think of pizza too, when we hear Mystic. That movie put Mystic on the map, didn’t it.
Staff, we are confused. Are you going to Alaska the same time as Rio’s friend? After your second post we think not, but are unsure.
Howlers, how are the two hens with bumble foot? As far as the shavings causing a problem, wouldn’t think so. We used as combo of shavings, straw and hay. We threw some good alfalfa hay in everyone in a while, as the hens loved it and would spread it around the coop, creating extra bedding.
All ready and waiting for the Big Guy to pick up Barb and head to the seminar. Not too excited about learning more about commercial insurance, but at least it breaks up the week.

Sorry for the typos. Didn’t proof read!

Good morning OH and B&M and everyone! Early birds. Mom was in the shower trying to avoid paws when everyone posted. More trips to AK in the works; here we only hope. Going to be a scorcher here 🙁
Have a wonderfully weird Wednesday
9:25 am on August 20th, 2014
Good morning everyone. We think Spencer should go to the Mystic Aquarium while he is there. Their Beluga whale is very friendly.
Day 2 of the really long shew. Our pet moth is still here in a slightly different position. Hmmmm. Wonder is she is settling in for the winter? Any giant moth experts on this here blog?
Got a panicked phone call from Gramp. Seems there is a priority mail package at the house from Alaska, and he wasn’t sure if we needed it now. We kinda think we know what it is, so we will say thank you now, and open it when we get home.
Oh, and the big excitement over the newest fair-food trend…deep fried smores. And Red Velvet Oreos.
We think we will stick with the Greek salad booth.
9:27 am on August 20th, 2014
Have a good luncheon Spence.
What movie put Mystic, CT on the map?
Good morning all.
9:36 am on August 20th, 2014
HRH B, 1988, Julia Roberts “Mystic Pizza”
9:39 am on August 20th, 2014
Greetings!
HRH, B: The movie is Mystic Pizza with Julia Roberts.
Spence, if dogs are allowed to come to the luncheon, safe bet that there will be no flying projectiles….remember the floor buffet!
I have just read through last night’s blog….
RIIIIIIOOOOO! Is your friend really going to Alaska? I wanna go too. I am small enough that we can fit in one bag together. Of course, I will bring a breathing mask so as not to be overwhelmed by any offensive smells.
YOUR FRIEND ROCKS!!!!
Royal MUM, I am not sure about red velvet Oreos, but give me a big ‘ole slice of Red Velvet cake any day. Sending good thoughts for a super day of selling!!!

HOH: You beat me to it!
9:43 am on August 20th, 2014
Wose, that doesn’t happen often 🙂
9:50 am on August 20th, 2014
HOH and Rose: Thank you. I don’t think I ever saw that movie. I’ll check it out.
10:17 am on August 20th, 2014
Good morning all.
I see someone’s ears perked up over that mention of Mystic. Could it be the pizza?
10:22 am on August 20th, 2014
Morning, Masquers. BSD always perks up when food is in the conversation. Nana does sometimes, too 🙂
10:23 am on August 20th, 2014
Pizza!….slobber!drool!…We here have not had pizza all summer long…gah!…I wonder if Spence will get into a food-fight at the luncheon?…heh!
10:31 am on August 20th, 2014
Food Fight! Looking Forward here to that under-the-table Buffet…or as my Spanish friend in CA would say…Buffett. Heh, heh.
10:46 am on August 20th, 2014
(Darah here) My paw is in the air, and my tail too, for the under-the-table buffet.
11:23 am on August 20th, 2014
Staff!…For a second there I thought you and my friend would finally meet and greet…snort!…But looks like you are going to Alaska in the dead of winter instead the lovely summer/fall…heh!heh!
11:37 am on August 20th, 2014
Rio: Your friend is going on a Great Adventure! (whispering) You will get to have zingers and forego the brutal walks while she is gone.
Staff and Mr. Fireslippers are going to Alaska during the Iditarod.
11:50 am on August 20th, 2014
Dawson!…Yeah, that’s what they said last time. I will believe it when I see it…heh!heh!
11:53 am on August 20th, 2014
As a native of Mystic, Groton, New London and the S.E. Connecticut coast, Mystic was “on the map” long before “Mystic Pizza” (when I was in high school, Mystic Pizza – just down the hill from the Union Baptist Church – was a takeout joint with the best grinders in town). Mystic Seaport and Mystic Marinelife Aquarium have been top New England tourist attractions for generations. You’re gonna love the bascule bridge over the Mystic River that connects Mystic’s “Groton Side” with the “Stonington Side”. Wish I could be there, hope you’re having a great time in my special corner of the Connecticut coast!
12:10 pm on August 20th, 2014
Pugs are so d@mn impatient.

12:13 pm on August 20th, 2014
Joe Smith. I wonder if that is an assumed identity.
Rio’s friend, sniff. I though you were getting ready to go to the Iditarod too. grump. But no, you have to go in the summer. spit. Oh well. At least you are getting over your fear of flying enough to go. Gah. You will have a GREAT time. snort.
12:29 pm on August 20th, 2014
Joe Smith: Thanks for the first hand knowledge of Mystic. I would love to see Connecticut someday.
MTMP: No wonder that pug is impatient. She’s as scrawny as a chicken!
1:20 pm on August 20th, 2014
Mystic Pizza is one of Mom’s all-time favorite movies. It reminds her a lot of her and her two great girlfriends, who happened to be sisters who were nothing alike, back in the day. She has watched that movie many times, and she even sampled the actual pizza (yumm) when she stopped in Mystic, and has the t-shirt. “A Little Slice of Heaven”
We also are confused by the timing of the Alaska trios.

Oh boy. We forgot the Blog Rule to Refresh first. Sorry.
1:35 pm on August 20th, 2014
Winter!…My friend HATES Winter – what’s so confusing about that…heh!heh!
1:44 pm on August 20th, 2014
But Rio, you already have winter. In fact, your winter was way worse than the winter we experienced Way Up North this past year.
Pizza! Mom informed us that we can not have any more pizza nights. She said that pizza cannot be eaten without wine, and you all convinced her to stop drinking wine. She has been whining about that all week. Sheesh!

Here is a fashion tip garnered from people-watching at the fair:
Just because it comes in your size, this does not mean you should wear it.
2:14 pm on August 20th, 2014
Rio: when I return home and tell Sadie that you might be returning, I know she will be excited. By that I mean she will be determinedly hiding her treaties and toys and staking out her dog bed awaiting your arrival.
2:15 pm on August 20th, 2014
Staff: Do you get books from Bookbub.com on your pc or a kindle? I’m frustrated because I signed up then they tell me I can’t get their deals because I live in Canada. Amazon.com says I have to order from Amazon.ca. Really? Blah, blah, blah.
Cheeto!
(This is my new cue to change where my thinking is taking me.)
Now, I’m going to the library (while we still have one). Cheeto!
2:26 pm on August 20th, 2014
CHobbit!…If i figure out a way to smuggle myself to your hotel, will you feed me some pizza and beer?…snorkel!…My friend cannot have any, but I sure can…grunt!
2:29 pm on August 20th, 2014
I found a most perfect hiding place. Last night, the ‘rents never did find me, until I was good and ready to show myself. Today, Mom was having a heart attack, worrying about me me me. She finally found me up inside my apple tree. drat. Still won’t stop me, though, because there is a critter in there I must get.
Mom tried saying Cheeto, Awesome. Didn’t work. No, it did not.
2:31 pm on August 20th, 2014
CHobbit!…Skippety Doo-Daw over to your SDD lickety split!…snort!
3:53 pm on August 20th, 2014
Zeus – Basil says good for you on being invisible. He manages to do that very well. Many is the time we have searched every nook, cranny and closet in the house desperately looking for him. Then all of a sudden, he is sitting in the middle of the room, innocent look firmly planted on his face, wondering what all the excitement is about.
3:55 pm on August 20th, 2014
Hey! Maybe I am part Kat!
3:59 pm on August 20th, 2014
Haven’t I enjoyed the summer? I have lounged on mom’s lap and enjoyed hearing about you all as she has read the blog. But now, the long days of no mom’s lap are coming. She went to school today to get her room ready. She seems pleased but I am not. Grrrrr.
4:29 pm on August 20th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama–Your words of wisdom have brightened my day (and confirmed my own beliefs). I hope you’re having a great show/shew.
Dawson–Henri le Chat is one of my favorite Internet people. A visit with him always brightens my day.
BSD, Dawson, and Everyone–Ms. Pretty came home today with one hip shaved and some scary-looking sutures, but is now resting comfortably and snoring loudly (she has an impressive snore for such a petite young lady). Her brothers were initially interested to see her, but are now catching up on their own 18 hours of beauty sleep.
I hope this finds you all well–it’s been a kind of unnerving few days. If the dratted couch gets delivered today I’ll call it a success and have done.
Is Mystic named for the Mystic River (itself made known to folks as far away as CA by Mr. Longfellow)?
4:54 pm on August 20th, 2014
Zeus: Yeah, the cheeto thing isn’t really working for me either. There is a way to channel my inner Chet. There must be! Pondering…
Whew!
DianeC: Thanks for the update on Ms. Pretty. In solidarity with all three dogs, I will take a nap.
5:14 pm on August 20th, 2014
Dawson: Well…now we know Why Packages take so long to reach the Provinces…they go South to go NOrth (just like some airlines do)
The Good News is PAO has departed the southern sort facility as of yesterday.
It’s paws crossed from here. Those damn MGs had best not interfere!
Diane: Ms Pretty Snoring in her very own bed must be a most Welcome Sound.
Scout: We know just what you mean! The End of Summer is a Bummer.
5:27 pm on August 20th, 2014
T&G’s Mama: 1) If clothing has horizontal stripes, run to another time zone without touching it, even if you are put together like Twiggy! 2) Our Mom can be invisible at will too…GAH, does that mean she is part gato?
Dawson, perhaps another mantra…SQUIRREL!
Scout, know it is a bummer when our 2 leggers go back to skul (4 letter word) in the fall. WE always ran around when mom came home and acted tired, heh. heh.heh.
DiandC., Glad Ms Pretty is home and sawing logs but we bet she can’t beat our mom…she rattles windows for dog’s sake!
6:03 pm on August 20th, 2014
The only thing better than knowing that something might be coming your way is actually getting it! Thank you so much Snowhook and double thank you to AJ for the wonderful letter. Sniffling may or may not have been involved.
An aside: you never notice how many words contain the letter “g” until yours is broken.
6:20 pm on August 20th, 2014
MTMP, had to think about the broken “g”. But we GOT it. 🙂
6:22 pm on August 20th, 2014
Gee!…I don’t get it….sniff! …I didn’t even realize it was a joke…heh!
6:34 pm on August 20th, 2014
Didn’t ML mention somethin”g” about a dog “g”nawing on her keyboard recently?
6:50 pm on August 20th, 2014
I don’t get it either!
Rio, we haven’t had pizza here since around the end of May. Sure do miss it.
Joe, didn’t mean to malign Mystic. Being from the Midwest, we might be ill informed regarding some of your Conn. attractions. Still when we hear Mystic, we think Pizza.
7:45 pm on August 20th, 2014
Zeus: Quite the Talent you have…Disappearing and Reappearing…something usually only Kats like the clever Basil can do.
Cheetos! Did someones mention Cheetos earlier?
Pizza and Wine does go together.
O’Howlers: Dear Dog we can hear your Mom Whining from here. Or maybe the sound is a bit closer…like when Chet is barking and doesn’t realize he is the one doing it…until Bernie says: Chet! Knock it off!
7:50 pm on August 20th, 2014
Oh pizza! That was me yesterday. Since I’ve been back in Amherst I have not been able to find a gluten-free pizza that I like. Yesterday I went back to Holiday Valley with some friends and we lounged around the pool being served red wine and my gluten-free pizza from the restaurant. Oh glorious day!
7:59 pm on August 20th, 2014
MPM, good for you. A glorious day indeed 🙂
8:21 pm on August 20th, 2014
Howlers, Your mom shouldn’t give up wine all together. Just look at it as a temporary measure. That is what we are doing here.
8:28 pm on August 20th, 2014
Royal Mum and Storyteller: I hope that your day is good tomorrow. My daughter is working hard on a special gift for a niece-in-law’s baby shower this weekend. Will post pictures on Sunday.
8:30 pm on August 20th, 2014
91*F here today. Nice indoors. 🙁 out. 3 more days. Know it is typical summer , but, haven’t had this shiitake for a year. Can you say sweaty?
8:33 pm on August 20th, 2014
Martha, hoping to see baby gift. Always nice to see handcrafted, loving gifts.

Here is some information on the benefits of red wine.

Plus it tastes good.
8:50 pm on August 20th, 2014
Does anyone watch the show Who Do You Think You Are? It used to be on another channel two – three years ago. It is now on TLC, which has a lot of shows that we don’t consider to be quality viewing. This one is about tracing ancestry. Each week they feature a different well know person, and we think it is very interesting.
Martha, Are you talking about a shower for Rob’s wife?
8:53 pm on August 20th, 2014
MPM, If I were your weight, I would still be having my nightly cocktails.
8:57 pm on August 20th, 2014
Cocktail!…Did someone say Beer?….snort!…I do believe I think I really need on in my bowl. NOW!…heh!heh!
9:02 pm on August 20th, 2014
Rillo, I really do drink red wine for health reasons, and as a benefit it tastes good and I enjoy it. What can you say about beer?
9:03 pm on August 20th, 2014
Rillo?
9:13 pm on August 20th, 2014
Rillo? Must be that glass of red wine for health reasons 🙂 We are going nighty night.
9:31 pm on August 20th, 2014
LOL
We may head off to bed soon too. Right after Who Do You Think You Are.
9:47 pm on August 20th, 2014
MollysMaw!…Buuurrrp!…awww!
11:09 pm on August 20th, 2014
Stover!…We finally got around to watching the final episode of Murder One…sniff!…It was very under-whelming…grunt!…I don’t buy it. I’m sorry. It was a cop-out. And not a good one….grump!…I’m getting tired of these “good” shows having really Weak-Ass endings. What is up with that?…grump!
11:25 pm on August 20th, 2014
WIN!…Rockies winnit…heh!… 5 ta 2 with the help of a Grand Slam by some guy named McBride…grunt!…Who the hell is he?…heh!heh!…Who cares?…WoOOOOooooOOOOO!
Damn!…Time for us to go up to our respective beds…sniff!…I always love/hate this part as I miss my friend during the day and want to spend more time with her, but I also love my warm soft bed where all my baseball toys are in just the right places…snuffle!…Beau, he is already up there in his cold hard bed with his paws straight up in the air….wiffle!…Plus, he is on major pain meds so who knows which giraffe he is shaking paws with right now…heh!heh!
11:07 am on August 21st, 2014
Barb & Maggie – No worries! I’m just kinda proud that Mystic is part of popular culture now; it’s a wonderful town with all kinds of great food and sightseeing. If you ever get the chance to travel to New England, put Mystic on your itinerary, I guarantee you’ll love it! And yes, Joe Smith is my real name. 🙂
