Good morning. Mom had a flu shot two days ago and then wasn’t feeling well when she got up yesterday. Now Mom pooh-poohs people who say they get sick from a flu shot, so she figured she was coming down with a cold. Then the chills set in, so Mom put socks and a heavy sweatshirt on, turned the fireplace on and watched a movie and napped in front of the toasty fire. Today she feels fine so it must have been the flu shot.
8:43 am on September 29th, 2011
Since I know the poem, I understand the title and post. Sorry Admin. Wonder if I can get that radio station….
Good morning all. Glad you are feeling better Mollypop.
8:55 am on September 29th, 2011
Good morning Mollypop, B., Chet, Spence and Admin,
Our condolences to Admin. Now you could climb onto our Phillies bandwagon…
Our computer/internet went kerfluey last evening, so we couldn’t read any posts until now, but youse guys were really cracking us up! Especially the duct tape and Shiek shrieking! yuk yuk!
Mom & Pop got to go out to dinner after all last night…just a bit later than originally planned.
Pop is getting Mom a new computer for her birthday, and you-know-who will use it the most (Sasha). We can’t wait!
9:06 am on September 29th, 2011
Good morning Spence, Chet and Admin. Maybe next year, Admin. (snicker)
Greetings to B, Mollypop, and OHs!!!
Dawson: Guess we’ll have our own little rivlary going on…..
Everyone have a good day!

OH: Loved that video! Maybe Bernie will consider a motorcycle, since the Porsche……Don’t want to give away anything to those who haven’t finished the book.

Good Morning All! Pouring rain here. Just what we need . . . sure wish we could send it to Macy. Speaking of Macy, that was a wonderful bath picture last night!
whispering: OleyHowlers? tell your mom “Happy Birthday” for me please!
KirbyT: Hope everything works out for the ‘gb’.
MollyPop: I once had the flu shot and two others given to me at the same time. Can’t remember what the others were . . . ended up in bed with a temperature of 104. I NEVER get a temperature. Really weird. My doc and I decided that perhaps shots separately for me would be a good thing.
B.Stover: I remember that poem!
Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

Even tho Barb is pretty old (dirt comes to mind) she does not get flu shots. She says the fewer chemicals that go into the body, the better.
She is packing up to go to her daughter’s home today. Leaving shortly. Tomorrow they are flying to Raleigh, N.C. Then back to Chicago Sunday, and she will be back home on Monday. Jordan, the vet tech, and one of my favorite two-leggeds, is going to stay with me. She has to work at the not-very-nice place during the day today and tomorrow, but the rest of the time she will be keeping me entertained. Of course, she has to watch the chickens and goats, but I will help her with those guys.
Barb says have a nice weekend, and she will be back on Monday.
9:43 am on September 29th, 2011
Mudville!… sob!sob!sob!…crap!…sob!sob!sob!…crap!…sob!sob!sob!…sneeze!
Team!…Okay, here goes nothing…GO TIGERS! …Wooooo!Wooooo!….wiffle!sniff!
9:46 am on September 29th, 2011
Enjoy the weekend Barb! Maggie, the vet-tech doesn’t need any help with the chickens!
9:50 am on September 29th, 2011
Radio!…i’m listening to Mindy Todd but there is no Spencer Quinn being interviewed….grunt!…Anyone else catch the interview?…sniff!
9:53 am on September 29th, 2011
Have a great trip, Barb!
9:55 am on September 29th, 2011
I have just finished cleaning the kitchen, so I wasn’t listening. Riö, when did you start?
Also, be strong oh-lover-of-baseball! You can do it, Riö!
9:56 am on September 29th, 2011
Listening!…I started listening at 7:45 (9:45 EST)…grump!
10:15 am on September 29th, 2011
We are listening now. No Spencer Quinn, but a very interesting conversation about healthcare.
10:19 am on September 29th, 2011
Rio, they seem to have podcasts of earlier shows but the newest one is just Tuesday. Maybe it will be on in a couple of days.

Barb: Have a wonderful trip!!
10:46 am on September 29th, 2011
Grump!…Well, try as I may, try as I might, I cannot get the “live” broadcast….snort!….So I will have to wait till Spencer is Archived and then listen to it…sniff!…He was on this program last year and it was a really good interview. Mindy Todd seems to be up on his books and knows Chet and Bernie. She asks very good questions, or at least she did last year…heh!
11:00 am on September 29th, 2011
I’m glad that I didn’t stay up for the end of the baseball games last night. It was distressing enough reading about them this morning. gah
When Spence gets archived, would someone please let the other plunderers here on the blog know about it.
11:05 am on September 29th, 2011
Barb, enjoy your trip. And Maggie, enjoy your time with Jordan!
11:06 am on September 29th, 2011
Fellow Sibers, That is a really neat video. We enjoyed it. I want to do that. Fat Chance
Macy, I can really indentify with that photo you posted last night.
11:07 am on September 29th, 2011
We will try listening to the broadcast this evening. Thanks for the link O.Howlers. Great Dog video too!
Hoping you all have a Great Day!
11:15 am on September 29th, 2011
Rio!?! What did you say? GO TIGERS?!? Did I hear that correctly?
11:22 am on September 29th, 2011
O yeah, we almost forgot about that great bath pic Macy posted. We relate as well!
Mom is still competing with Shrieking Shiek for most injuries. She just got stung by a bee. Does anyone know that paste you make with brown sugar to soothe it?
Rio: Repeat after us…”GO PHILLIES”
11:38 am on September 29th, 2011
Fellow Sibers, Mom uses a paste made out of baking soda. The “old” remedies seem to work better than the commercial stuff.
Ok, since we are doing this: GO RANGERS!
11:41 am on September 29th, 2011
O.Howlers: Your poor mom! Not on her day. This is just unacceptable.
Melanie & B: The Mudville poem always brings a tear to the eye. Poor Admin.
11:44 am on September 29th, 2011
Siber, baking soda and just water?
11:50 am on September 29th, 2011
Yes, Just make a paste out of the baking soda and water. It may be a little messy. After trying everything, mom has found that baking soda works best to stop the itching that bites cause. Also, to bites like bee, ant, and wasp stings, ice can be immediately applied to help stop the pain.
11:52 am on September 29th, 2011
Be back in awhile…mom has to leave
11:58 am on September 29th, 2011
I’ve also used baking soda and water for bee stings. Make a thick paste and rub it on the area of the sting and leave it there.
12:01 pm on September 29th, 2011
Bees!…snort!….I hate those guys. I also hate wasps….growl!…When my friend gets stung she does the soda paste thing, but also before doing that she scraps the bite with a credit card or something along that line to pull the stinger out ….grunt!
12:09 pm on September 29th, 2011
Dawson!…You heard correctly!…snort! ….Go Tigers…heh!….We will be watching tomorrow night…sniff!…After she gets home from eating out with her “other” friends which do not include ME!…grump!
12:27 pm on September 29th, 2011
I have trotted the perimeter and my domain is safe. Hope the Tigers stay in Michigan. If they come here I will say “Go, Tigers!” too.
CL remembers Dawson’s Grampa watching the Tigers with his hearing aid connected to the TV so he could hear it although deaf, but everyone else wouldn’t be blasted out of the house. What he didn’t realize is that we could all hear him swearing at the TV when the Tigers did poorly (which was most of the time). So there is a sentimental attachment to the Tigers.
12:37 pm on September 29th, 2011
Phillies!…Even though the Phillies are in the National League, we have to root for the Western Division….snort!…So we will be rooting for the Arizona Snakes this year. I think this team will surprise a lot of people and it will be fun to watch…heh!heh!
12:38 pm on September 29th, 2011
Mom used the baking soda paste and said it feels good on there. Still thinking of the credit card thing, Rio
1:19 pm on September 29th, 2011
Stinger!…If she doesn’t get the stinger out it will keep burning and itching and swelling up….grunt!…Just ask me about swelling up after snuffling in the garden and getting bit….gruffle!
1:25 pm on September 29th, 2011
Rio is correct about the credit card thing to remove the stinger.
I’ll be rooting for the Snakes also this year. They are my neighbors and so are the Rangers.
1:27 pm on September 29th, 2011
SiberH!…Or should I say, Mr. Rogers?…heh!…I have a really good feeling about the Snakes in the Post Season…snort!…They swept the Giants last time they played them. All I can say is, they looked Poofy and Fierce!…gruff!
1:46 pm on September 29th, 2011
I do admire the way the Snakes were at the bottom of the division last year and rose to the top this year. I don’t think this will happen, but I don’t know what I’ll do if the Snakes and the Rangers end up in the World Series.
1:51 pm on September 29th, 2011
Ahem….we would like it to be acknowledged that long ago, WE said that the Tigers were the team to beat. We don’t even know what sport they play, but we know what we like. We also like the Cincinnsati Bengals, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Detroit Lions, and the Florida Panthers. (We like the Blue Jays and Orioles too, but for a tastier reason)
Did you ever notice that there are lots of teams named for Kats, some named for fish, some for bears, horses and even penguins, and not any teams named for Dawgs? Would anyone root for the Chicago Chihuahuas?? Or the Boston Bichons? How about the Minneapolis Min-Pins (sorry Macy)
To us, this is proof positive that Kats Rule …. Dawgs Drool!
(giggle)
1:53 pm on September 29th, 2011
Mom scraped with a credit card, but she doesn’t know if a stinger came out, or even if it was in.
2:06 pm on September 29th, 2011
Kats!….Hmmm, I can’t think of any team named after a Pug….grunt!… This is a very distressing revelation…sniff!
2:19 pm on September 29th, 2011
Minnesota Timberwolves Basketball team. Bunch of losers….
2:21 pm on September 29th, 2011
Fellow Sibers, Rio might know if this is correct, but I think the credit card needs to used immediately after getting stung.
Herbs, There are gobs of teams named the Huskies and here in NM we have the Lobos.
2:24 pm on September 29th, 2011
Rio: Maybe if you ask your friend nicely, she’ll bring home a “doggie bag” for you.
Herb Kats: Your post made me LOL!!!
2:45 pm on September 29th, 2011
Rose!…Never!…snort!…That whole ‘bag’ thing will never happen. Not while she is under the impression that I eat food off the table and Zingers with her mother…gruffle!
3:00 pm on September 29th, 2011
Wow! What a night it was last night; definitely a night to remember always. This was baseball at its very best, 4 games, 8 teams, two wildcard slots, and high drama throughout. Two of the games went extra innings, and one was decided in the bottom half of the ninth. And while I was kind of disappointed with the outocme of some (although St. Louis winning the National League wildcard was just fine), the drama and tension was unbelievable, unlike anything else in any other sport. This is definitely comfirmation of why baseball is truly the national pasttime, and not football or basketball or (shudder) golf.
Definitely rooting for the Rangers and Snakes, although would root for Detroit if the Rangers falter. And maybe St. Louis if the Snakes falter.
Wookie
3:09 pm on September 29th, 2011
Excellent report Wookie!
3:09 pm on September 29th, 2011
Well, In my grandfather’s honor I guess I will root for the Detroit Tigers. So forgive me Dawson, for I have wandered from the truth.
3:20 pm on September 29th, 2011
Braves!…Wookie! I still can’t believe that the Atlanta Braves did not make it to post-season….wuffle!…We should have stayed up a little longer but someone couldn’t keep her eyes open no matter how thrilling it was…grump!dammit!
3:22 pm on September 29th, 2011
O’Brother!….Dawson, Staff’s backing of the Tigers sounds pretty weak to me…snuff!…I think she is bluffing…heh!
3:37 pm on September 29th, 2011
When is baseball season over……?
4:03 pm on September 29th, 2011
Siber-H: Good call about the Husky team names. UW Huskies for one.
4:15 pm on September 29th, 2011
Huskys!…Don’t forget the Huskers!…heh!
4:18 pm on September 29th, 2011
And there are the Albuquerque High Bulldogs
4:23 pm on September 29th, 2011
Stover, I would answer your question with “too soon, too soon”, but mom won’t let me.
I honestly don’t know. We have these post season games and then the World Series. It is over with after the World Series.
4:38 pm on September 29th, 2011
Thanks SH. It was actually a rhetorical question.
5:05 pm on September 29th, 2011
SiberH. I presume the Albuquerque Isotopes don’t qualify in that regard. And while the Georgetown team name is the Hoyas (don’t ask, long story, but a play on who’s on first), the official team mascot is Jack the Bulldog. Wookie
5:16 pm on September 29th, 2011
Bee – you can always tell when baseball season ends…cuz that’s when everyone starts talking about the football teams.
And we beg to differ with the stinkin’ kats..there is indeed a professional sports team named for Dogs – the Kansas City ROYALS!
So there!
5:19 pm on September 29th, 2011
If the UNM Lobos would change their name to the UNM Pugs maybe they would start winning their football games…just a thought
5:28 pm on September 29th, 2011
Georgia Bulldogs. With a live mascot. Go Dawgs! (I guess)
This next item is for Maggie.
What you do for YOURSELF DIES with you. But what you do for OTHERS will LIVE FOREVER…..

Houston, the YSAS has landed.
BBL
5:47 pm on September 29th, 2011
Siber, Macy and the rest of you silly dawgs – high school and college teams don’t count…
once those sports guys grow up and actually start making money for playing silly games, they drop the puppyish names and go for the much scarier and fierce sounding Might Kat names.
Sure, there probably are the Peoria Poodles or the Puxatawny Pugs, but you ain’t never gonna see their names on the NFL Game of the Week, or in the World Series.
KATS RULE !!!
(P.S. – Kansas City Royals named for dawgs???, my flickin’ whiskers! )
6:02 pm on September 29th, 2011
Pugatawny!…snort!
6:05 pm on September 29th, 2011
B&S: Right on! Let’s not forget October 29th is National Kat Day!
(Whispering) But I love doggies, too! Especially the ones on this blog….
6:06 pm on September 29th, 2011
Miss Macy: You find the most interesting pictures!
6:14 pm on September 29th, 2011
Peoria Poodles? Excuuuuse me. That sounds like one fierce team!
6:15 pm on September 29th, 2011
SiberH. The UNM Lobos would probably need much more than a name change to start winning football games, or at least so says my dad. Wookie
6:18 pm on September 29th, 2011
Basil and Sage….YES!
BStover.
from Wikipedia…”The 2011 World Series will be the 107th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series. The best-of-seven playoff will be played between the American League champions and the National League champions. The series will begin on October 19, an earlier date than the previous season so that no games would be played in November.”
PS (It ends when one of teams wins 4 games.)
6:28 pm on September 29th, 2011
sob, sob, sob, The season ends sooner than I thought.
6:46 pm on September 29th, 2011
Hey, y’all! Mom’s home, so now I can get on the computer and visit everybody! She even has tomorrow off! She says she’s going to spend the day cleaning the house. Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it! Knowing her, she’ll find lots of other things to do to occupy her day, and very little actual cleaning will be done!!!

Wookie! I received the most wonderful package yesterday. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for ordering the cookbooks. The cover and the pictures look waaaaay better in color. Also, thanks for the neat-o stamps. 😉
OleyHowlers: Happy Birthday to your mom. I think it is today.
Rose: I’m looking forward to the series. Even though Rio and Staff are weak fans, they are still fans.
Bee stings and insect bites! Someone told me if you rub some “Secret” deodorant on them the pain goes away. It has worked for me but I’ve applied it immediately after the bite or sting.
I’m still at work because someone called in sick. Phooey.
MacyMinPin: Funny picture of the (non) bathing dog and what a nice chicken. Wonder if more puppies will hatch.
8:21 pm on September 29th, 2011
B.Stover: That would be me!
I had a friend who told his younger brother that you had to put on an entire jar of peanut butter on your whole arm for a bee sting. His brother did exactly what he said. Dog, did that friend get in trouble!
8:23 pm on September 29th, 2011
Dawson, I sat, laid, and stood on my puppies, and the number never changed. Perhaps it is different when chickens do it.
Wooks, old chap, thanks for throwing your support to the Rangers. Falter? Perish the thought.
Wow! Mom has known her share of two-faced people, but they only use one at a time.
We ask for loving thoughts for Mom’s uncle that she visited a couple of weeks ago. He is back in the VA hospital, and it doesn’t look very good at this point. She is glad that she went to see him and got to call him an “old goat” one more time. “Old goat” is about as close to affection as her Dad’s family came.
8:26 pm on September 29th, 2011
KirbyT: Did you hear that Kat growl? I’m wondering if he was arguing with himself. Things left out? What is the make up of the brain and everything inside?
Weird.
Dawson!! Hope you get off work soon. Perhaps you need a sick day? You could call it a “Mental Health Day” and stay in your jammies, drink coco and tea, eat bonbons and read books.
8:30 pm on September 29th, 2011
Here are some Texas towns and the mascots the SHOULD have.
Pampa Poodles
Bedford Beagles
Colleyville (duh) Collies
Hurst Huskies
Terlingua Chee wa was
Carrollton Corgis….
well, if you get my point. Why aren’t ALL teams named for members of the nation?
8:56 pm on September 29th, 2011
Weak!… I am never a Weak Fan…grunt!….Dawson, I will root for the Tigers until they have to meet up with the Snakes, then of course I will have to root for the Snakes…snort!…In my pug heart I will really be hoping they win all the games they need to stay alive!…woooo!
Losers!…We are watching the 2nd show of The Biggest Loser…heh!…They are tempting all the fatties with donuts…snicker!… Her mother is not a fattie, but she would lose the donut test in about 2 seconds….chorkel!…That little lady had a great big fat Danish on her plate last I saw before we came downstairs…heh!…I bet its all gone by now!…sniff!
9:06 pm on September 29th, 2011
Pictures!….Heh!…The three photos at the top are Audrey, Alice and Brewski….snort! The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…chorkel!
9:11 pm on September 29th, 2011
Bizarre!… One guy ate 37 donuts in 3 minutes just so his team could choose to workout at 5:00am…heh!….What a stupid thing to do…grunt!
9:11 pm on September 29th, 2011
Good evening y’all. Been a while since I been around to catch up, but tonight’s conversation had me a’thinkin.
I do believe I can explain this whole confabulation about why ain’t no professional sports teams named for dawgs – jest high school and college teams.
Seems to this ole hound that the sports team are jist following the rules of nature. See now, dawgs, when they are young, jist love to scramble around and jump on each other and have a good old time. But when we grow up, dawgs work for a livin’ We rescue people, and help with the huntin’ and the haulin'(and the bakin’,Mr.Kirby) We work at all kinds of jobs and jist don’t hang around playing fetch and stuff.
So, when those young pups in high school and college grow up and have to git sports jobs that pay money, they change their names to reflect the feline side of this. Cuz, while dawgs grow up and work,…
kats just continue to play with their balls
9:12 pm on September 29th, 2011
That was pretty good, Riö. GBU . . .
YSAS has gone out to see a friend before he moves to Seattle. The friend, not YSAS. Tonight it’s just the BFs, tomorrow night is the party.
I told him he just needed to be fit to drive on Saturday.
Patsy snoring, and I’m headed that way. Haven’t slept well the last few days and looking forward to sleeping. Snoring, rain, thunder and the high river will help . . .
Unless my mind starts up worrying if we should build and ark . . .
Shut up MIND!

Okay, I know I said I was going to sleep but when the page refreshed there was Mr. Redbone Hound. Hi!
I love your explanation!
Now it’s really TTFN
9:28 pm on September 29th, 2011
My picture on top shows Mr.Husky. He is so darn cute. Abbie really likes him. It is the picture where he is leaning on the sliding door.
9:30 pm on September 29th, 2011
Brother!… Redbone! I think you stepped right on the Kats tail with that explanation…heh!…Us guys are working guys and we don’t need our names on sports teams….sniff!… I know I have a very important job, I just can’t remember what it is…snorkel!
9:41 pm on September 29th, 2011
Macy: I wonder if the non-bathing dog is any relation to Siber-H or my Tenzing? I’ve said before that we’ve had a freshly hatched batch of puppies, but I didn’t know it could be a reality.
Rio: I thinkl it would be fun to be able to do some of the challanges they have on the Biggest Loser, but working out at 5am—no thank you. By the way, Junior is proving to be quite the sled dog.
Howlers’ mom: Happy birthday and anniversary.
9:42 pm on September 29th, 2011
Brother Rio – some dawgs are meant to do physical work. Some dawgs work by supervising. Or quilt testing.
10:33 pm on September 29th, 2011
Some Kats are awesome.
A mother tiger lost her cubs due to premature labour. Shortly after, she became depressed and her health declined. She was later diagnosed with depression. Since tigers are endangered, every effort was made to secure her health. Zoologists wrapped piglets up in tiger-print cloth, and presented them to the mother tiger. She now loves these piglets and treats them like her own. And needless to mention, her health is back on track. ♥
Yes, they ALL have feelings….
11:22 pm on September 29th, 2011
Yikes! That’s a big kat! Love the piggens!
11:32 pm on September 29th, 2011
Good night, y’all!
11:45 pm on September 29th, 2011
The team was getting ready to go on a training run when I arrived home tonight. I was greeted by Doc and Charlie in harness and ready to go (or jump in the car).
I was also greeted by the Theives, Pancho and Lefty. I tried to get a picture, but the photo didn’t quite turn out well given the proximity to the inside of Lefty’s mouth.

11:50 pm on September 29th, 2011
hello and goodnight again to all.
Macy- that picture is amazing. What do you suppose that tiger mama is goi g to do when those little piglets start to look like appetizers ?
Mr Redbone – our Kats are very upset with you. teehee
Checking out for the night. See you all tomorrow

First off I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas
out there. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first
10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or hints? Cheers!
