Mr. Singh

“Why did I change my mind at the last minute?” Bernie says.

Uh-oh. Is he talking about his Super Bowl bet again? He opens the safe in the office, takes out his grandfather’s watch, our most valuable possession. Yes, the Super Bowl bet. We’re off to see Mr. Singh. Mr. Singh’s the pawnbroker. Once he shared some goat curry he had heating on the burner. You don’t forget things like that.

Snow!….I also woke up to snow – again!…snort!… Someone here is damned sick of winter and was muttering and mumbling on her way out the door to drive on the icy highway…grunt! ….I hope she makes it okay. February is our least favorite month of the year because there are always surprise snow storms and cold fronts that creep down here from Canada….wheeze! …Last year was horrible, this year is looking to beat it in horribleness…sniff!

Hi Melanie and Rio. Tell your friend to be careful Rio.

    Good morning all.

Goat is similar to lamb, so not too bad. Barb tasted it years ago, but our little goaties will never be tasted.

Curry is another matter. One of our least favorite spices.

Melanie, did you see our post last night about Gus’s availability? He would be ready and willing but not able.

We figured that Bernie would have to make a Super Bowl bet. That man never learns.

Okeym We have one chicken casserole dish that has broccoli, cream of chicken soup and curry that we like, but generally no.

We have a little weird white stuff coming down. It must be frozen rain drops, because it isn’t quite snow.

Barb and MagPie, The ladies would love the “ready and willing”. We would love the unable.

It appears that one of Newf FB friends has a friend with Chowchows. I think the picture of Rio in his winter coat from the Superbowl could be used as a great disguise.

Rio, Check in with us when you can and let us know that your friend arrived safely to work. I hope the roads are okay for her trip home.

I’m feeling better this morning…I took this cheap outdoor thermometer that mom had bought and buried it. That was good therapy.

A late lunch at The Crab Pot on Fisherman’s Wharf yesterday. Sitting in the solarium basking in the sun…a feast spread on the table New Orlean’s style…what fun!

    YARK!! YARK!!! YARK!!!

I just went to the Iditarod’s website. They have totally changed it. I don’t like it, but maybe I will adjust.

It looks like they have done away with the message boards. That is way too bad because I learned so much from them and there was always technical help there from the Iditarod Staff.

    I really don’t like it.

Wookie: Ouch! Haven’t the Patriots been humiliated enough?

Rio: Your weather is coming from some other part of Canada (probably CHarris’s part) because we have gotten (Is gotten a real word?) above freezing for several days in a row. I agree with Mollypop. Very unusual weather for February.

C.Harris: Bernie did place a bet with his usual results. Bummer. He’d better get a paying job.

    Melanie: Cute Chow Chow bums!

Masquers: Your lunch, New Orleans style, sounds delish.

I love curry. Never had goat.

Hmmmm. I thought I pressed submit but I don’t see the post. I will risk a Double Dawson and add: It’s 10 percent off Tuesday at the grocery store. I’m in.

    Greetings all!
We have decided that whatever Bernie bets on – we will take the opposite. We will surely be millionaires withing a year.

Mama is doing better today – Dad made her some chicken soup late last night and that seemed ok. She is being kind of careful and laying low. “green about the gills” is not her best color.

But, we are taking really good care of her – we make sure she gets her exercise by making her let us in and out on a regular basis. And when she sits on the couch, we jump on her lap and hold her down so she does’nt float away. And we aren’t letting her sleep too much – we are barking merrily at any outdoor sounds – like a leaf hitting the ground, or a car driving down the street. See what good nurses we are? Even if our patient doesn’t seem to appreciate our great therapy.

Sorry for having disappeared for the last few days, but very hectic here in Chevy Chase. First, we had guests over on Super Bowl Sunday (but to watch Downton Abbey, not the Super Bowl), which is why I missed the Super Bowl Party at T&G’s. Since then, mom and dad have been moving furniture and reorganizing everything, for the annual Quiltathon tomorrow. Fifty plus quilting ladies, 18 children’s quilts to make, all in one day in total chaos in our house. Me and dad and grandpa will actually be heading on in the morning on a guy’s day out to stay out of the way at the start, but I will back in the afternoon for some critical last minute supervising. You know how those quilting ladies can be.

Barb and Maggie. I did hold off on Lisa Scottoline stories till you got back, so here goes. She is definitely one of my dad’s favorite authors; he discovered her very early on (he found her first book in of all places at a bookstand in Narita Airport outside Tokyo) and has read everything she has written. It turns out she is a graduate of the same law school my dad went to, but he is a few years older so they didn’t overlap or anything. She has a number of stand alone books, but also a series of sorts revolving around three lawyers (all female) in a law firm in Philadelphia, although each book in the series focuses on a different lawyer, and all three lawyers were originally the protagonists in her earliest books as stand-alone characters before she brought them together.

Lisa is very proud of her Philadelphia Italian heritage. She believes that you can never have too many carbohydrates and, at her book signing, she always brings a case of Tastykakes (a Philadelphia based delicacy) which she throws periodically into the audience. Almost all her books are set in Pennsylvania and she incorporates her Italian heritage into many of them as well.

While it appears as though she had encountered incredible
success with writing, not so with the men in her life, and she has been divorced twice. In fact, in recent years she has started writing a weekly column for the Phildelphia Inquirer called Chick Wit, and which has led to the publication of several books that are compilations of her articles, the first of which was called Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog. She loves golden retrievers and other dogs too. I would certainly offer to marry her myself, but she would have to move in here with my mom and dad, which she might not want to do.

At the library they have the latest C & B on the New Book shelf. Barb looked, and it has been checked out about 15 times so far. They said people are really liking it. Barb told the librarian that Spence is her favorite author. She did not mention the BILG, however.

I had to stay up all night reading until I found a place in the book where I felt safe enough to go to sleep. I hate that!

Mollypop’s Mom: It is Noswad, NOT Nosewad! There is no “e” in Noswad. The name does NOT have a long “o” when you pronounce it. Sheesh!

Linda the Lurker: Of course you are going to Nome with us! 🙂

Snowhook Bella: Thanks for posting Siber’s picture. What a handsome dog! And very well-dressed in his Iditarod tag.

I received my neck gaiter today (and I put it on immediately so that by the time I got home I was sweating) and I have an apology to make because by the time you paid for postage and materials you may have made 2 cents on the deal but then you threw in that zipper pull sled dog charm because you were late in sending the package, so now you must’ve lost money on the deal. But I do love my neck gaiter! Whoo Hoo! And the cute little charm.

There will be two teams of Siberians in the Iditarod this year, but what I hope for them is to stay safe, have fun, and finish the race. I don’t expect great things from them like I did Mike Ellis.

Great news about the Siberian team coming in second in the 300 mile race! It will be interesting to see how the Sibes do in the Iditarod.

  69. Siber-H
    7:01 pm on February 7th, 2012

    Thank You Masquers,

umm Right now I dislike everything about the new website. I had lived with the old one for so many years and knew it like my backyard. Maybe with practice, I will end up thinking the new website is wonderful.

It seems that a facebookie page is going to replace the old Iditarod message boards. Most of the comments from race fans on the Quest’s facebookie page are rather boring, but it is very good for getting quick updates from the Quest race officials.

(whispering) Just between you and me, Masquers, I don’t think the Siber Iditarod teams will do that well. I am basing this prediction on their past Iditarod history.

She’s calling it “The Lizard Pot”.

The Lizard Pot is very cool.

Siber, which are the two Sibe teams? We will add them to our tracking. Unfortunately, we have to work most of the Iditarod days so we probably won’t be able to track as much as we would like.

Maggie, please do not steal Meashka’s man. She would be most unhappy. But Dima is not spoken for. (whispering) Mom says that he is … but he needs a canine, not just a human woman.

Pot!….Someone here is yearning for that pot…snort!…Yes, yearning was the word she used. She thinks it would be wonderous on our patio. Beau is eying it up too…chorkel!

    Very kool pot, T&G!
Rio: Keep Beau away from it! He doesn’t have a very good track record of late.

Maggie, you know what they say about “a bird in hand…”

Siber, we added Karen and Hank to our Mushers to track. Thanks.

Oley, I guess I better wait around and see what Barb has in mind.

Chuck Dickens has a certain ring to it, don’t ya think, Bee?

We were just out howling at the Snow Moon, even though there is no snow. Perhaps our howls will bring snow tomorrow.
Our iPaw is dying, and Mom says it is bedtime.
    Good Night All.

B: Snow Moon…it has a nice ring to it.
Speaking of which…this night will soon be filled with a chorus of many voices…one of which will be mine.
We will be meeting in the woods at the top of the hill ’round midnight for the Full Moon Rising.
    All are welcome to join.

Mr.Staff just sent this to me with the instructions,
“Play Heading South” (It’s the last selection)
This is a tune we heard years ago and have been trying to find out who did it. Guess he finally found them. Sort of Jazz and Bluegrass mixed up.

6 minutes. (this time I checked)

    Getting ready for bed now.
    Night all.
    night Noswad

My dad finally signed up for the whole Iditarod package. He watched the Why Do They Run video (or most of it any ways) which he thought was really neat. He did want to watch the video with AJ going down the steps, but didn’t know which one that was. And did you see, I am now sponsoring my very own checkpoint — Elim. Rebecca picked it specially for me. Wookie

    10:16 pm on February 7th, 2012

Wookie!…Wow! Wow!….Wookie! Wow!…heh!…Your own check-point!…snort!… I know that we will all be cheering AJ and the Special Plunderer(s) as he gets to their checkpoint…woooo!…That will be so much fun. We should all have a list of the checkpoints so we can lavish praise and woooo-hooooos on AJ the Giant, the A-Team and the Plunderer who sponsored the Check-point!….chuffle!

Staff: Thank your for highlighting the video which focused on the dogs. It is a very interesting story and gave a lot information about the background and the running of this great race.

Mollypop’s Mom: Is it the flu? Sam will take good care of you. Feel better soon!

    Greetings late night Plunderers!
Busy day what with clay and another new project – more about that one later – much later.
Thanks for posting that pot picture Melanie. We just sent it to her when she asked what Mama was doing in the Mud Room. It is still in it’s infancy – it is still wet and unfired. Once it is cured and fired, it will be pure white with micaceous flecks. The lizards will all have bling down their spines, and sparkling black eyes. They will be painted in various metallic colors like deep greens and purples. We’ll post it when it is done – which will not be for a month or so.

MP’sM and Noswad – love your back and forth – laugh out loud funny.

Siber – you handsome dog, you. See what you have started?

Hmmm – Dicken’s birthday or Beatles arrival? Decisions, decisions – what to celebrate.
Think we will go with Dickens.

Losers!….I’m amazed but there is absolutely NO ONE I care for on the Biggest Loser show this year so far…grunt!….What a bunch of whiney, nasty people…sniff!

Bed!….I am off to my warm soft bed where my baseball toys are waiting for me …heh!…Along with me they are patiently waiting for Spring to come…sniffle!

WhoooWhoooWookie! You are sponsoring checkpoint Elim. What a guy!

Rio: Yes, the list of checkpoints sponsored by Plunderers is getting quite long and we should all recognize their generosity.

Mollypop’s Mom: Rest and remember to eat some yogurt or take some acidophilus tablets to replace the good bacteria that those antibiotics will kill.

C.Harris: Thanks for the Howling at the Moon Blessing.

I’ll check out the Iditarod sites tomorrow. Gotta hit the sack.

Mama got positively teary eyed over reading about the support for Snowhook. All the sponsorship of checkpoints, and the dogs…what a wonderful group of folks you all are!
And Linda the Lurker – we’re very glad that you are coming along on the ride with us!
G’night all – sleep with wonderful dreams under the beautiful Snow Moon.

We can add another checkpoint sponsor to the list. Belle Starr’s Rose has sponsored the Galena checkpoint. Why Galena? Because, between Rose and I, it’s a great place for a girl to get a manicure. 🙂

Thank you doesn’t seem enough for all that each of you have done for our kennel. The first packages from Team Feed the Giant have started to trickle in and I’ve been surprised and delighted by the contents that aren’t just for the Giant—Thank you.

Someday, someday when we have the means I hope to give as much as we’ve received and then some. I can’t thank you enough.

Siber-H: I say ick to the new website, but I’m sure we’ll adjust. I don’t think we have a choice.

I forgot to mention earlier that CHarris joined the ranks of those who sponsored a checkpoint. Thanks to my Plunderer friend to the north who started the Willow checkpoint— the starting line of the restart.
