Most Recent Thanksgiving Reference in the Chet And Bernie Series

“Hello and goodbye,” said Ramon.

He was leaving? I had just enough time to think: good news. And then Ramon had a knife in his hand. There are all sorts of knives – for butter, for steak, for carving the turkey on Thanksgiving. This particular kind of knife – all steel, thin and flat, with a round hole at the top of the grip – was a kind I’d seen before – and seen in action – on a visit to Otis DeWayne, our weapons expert. What Ramon had in his hand was a throwing knife, which he now drew back behind his ear with the same soft easy grip Otis had used before letting it go and popping a pink balloon hanging from a branch in his yard. Pop went the balloon, shriveling down to nothing, and the knife sank deep and quivering into the tree. Those liquidy dark eyes locked on Bernie. Shriveling down to nothing? No!

– from A Fistful of Collars.

Welcome Becket, Odin & Mr. Claus, eager pup.

Chet, I’m glad you didn’t like the idea of Bernie “Shriveling down to nothing?”

Good morning all. Lake effect snow, 24 degrees, wind chill 10 degrees.

Thanks for the snow, MollyPop’s Mom and Sam! BTW, the ski area looked like it was on fire. Pretty cool.

Jeeze, those Irish must have really celebrated all night.

I found this video on another site that I look at. This is the ultimate girl toy. At least from my point of view and you guys know I’m a bit geeky. After watching the video I checked out her Kickstarter account and not only is she fully funded, she has almost doubled her funding!

We don’t have snow yet here in Buffalo. Well, actually I’m in Amherst which is a northern suburb. The snow is still to the south but is starting to shift north. It could stay with Molly’s Mom and I’d be happy.

Melanie, we watched that video. What a wonderful, fun-looking toy! We wanted to buy that for our cousin Kendall for Christmas, but the estimated delivery date is April 2013. We’ll keep it in mind for her birthday.

We Howlers are tippy toeing around because the rents had a Late Night! Wooooo!

Good morning all. Barb is heading out for a quick trip to the grocery. She is going to make some cookies today and needs baking soda and pecans.

Melanie, I know this is trival, but Barb said last night that a CSA is “community sustainable agriculture”. Actually, it is “community supported agriculture” (which is sutainable).
Kelly was involved in one last year and found that she got to try a lot of veggies that she didn’t usually buy. Usually you sign up for the season, pay a set price, then go pick up your boxed seasonal veggies once a week. It was fun.

    Greetings!

MollyPop’s Mom, your picture from last night is beautiful!

Rio! Now I am going to have to go back and watch all our Hitchcock films and look for Chet references. As the others said, Hitch is always spotted within the first ten minutes of his films. Rio! I hope there are no pug boogers in my box. Remember, You are my very best pug friend.

MagPie, my sister did an extra deal so she is also getting root vegetables through February. Very nice.

OleyHowlers, she got her funding in two months and then started production. Totally awesome.

Trying to rest today. So, of course, YSAS calls because he’s on break and wants me to do things with headshots. This is the same time Zoë comes in to ask for help doing something and the entire Pack decides to bark at some person practicing cross country skiing on our road. Do they go out to bark? Noooooo.

So everyone is now settled and I’m going to try to rest again. snicker

B., Cyber Monday is online and is an extension of Black Friday shopping, only now people have gone back to work and are ordering from their desks. Most places offer free shipping.

This is the busiest Internet day of the year and also when many web sites crash because they weren’t adequately prepared for the load.

This is where mom and her mom are going this afternoon. In Texas we have to get our snow where we can find it. This was our girl Angie’s Mother’s Day gift to them both. The Bass Performance Hall is quite posh, or so I’ve heard. Nobody has invited me.

The FWSO’s annual holiday pops, with favorite Christmas carols, a bell choir, a family sing-along, a cameo by Santa, and snow in Bass Hall.

Maybe soon they will take us four-leggeds to Fort Woof. We already missed Barktoberfest. Fort Woof is the big dog park. Maybe Santa Paws will be there.

My luggage is still traveling {{{sigh}}}. The planes returning to Alaska are full and my suitcases don’t make it on due to “weight and balance issues.” Today and tomorrow are heavy travel days so I am not hopeful. I would be fine but I need my medicines.

It is hard going from +65 to -30 and I need to re-acclimate my body to an Alaskan winter all over again. Right now I am wearing two layers and that is *inside* a heated house! Off to light a candle for my luggage….

  20. Melanie

Mollypop’s Mom, Wow! I want one! It is only $395.00
Maybe mom wouldn’t notice that charge on her credit card.
I could just hide it from her in the garage and bring it out on the few days it is cold enough here to make snow. I would just explain to her that a little cloud came over and dumped that snow in our backyard.

What Rio, you aren’t watching Liz and Dick?

We here can’t bear to watch two hours of Lindsey Lohan, so we are watching Cesar Millan’s story on NatGeoWild.

Rio, Lindsay Lohan is playing Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime movie. Grant Bowler plays Richard Burton. Guess filming was a nightmare. The girl is a train wreck. They did a good job of making her look like Liz, and they say Grant Bowler does an excellent job.

Isn’t Downton Abbey coming back on in January?

Rio: Who won the Grey Cup? I got pulled away and, oh yeah, I’m not paying attention to sports anymore since that disastrous World Series. I didn’t see Gordon Lightfoot but I was spared the “Beeb”.

Pug careful what you wish for. When mom was home all day it was exhausting trying to keep her entertained all day. She totally disrupted my nap schedule.

Melanie thanks for the picture of the Bass Hall. Mom and her mom had a very nice time. They had box seats and mom kept thinking that she should wave to the people on the floor. Luckily her mom made her behave. The snow falling on the singalong finale was quite festive.

Dad decided he should drive the ladies to Fort Worth, so he and Belle went to Fort Woof while they waited. Dad said Belle never left his side so it sort of defeated the purpose of going to the dog park. Belle is picky who she hangs out with.

Orion isn’t feeling tip top tonight, so I’ve tucked the quilt around him. He is snuggled in the straw Sheik left behind.
