More on Miss Sierra

Leigh Ann Perkins, human companion of Chet’s June Friend of the Month, kindly sends in this about Miss Sierra:

My friend led an adventurous and wonderful life. She is a red merle Australian shepherd who was bred on a working ranch but came to live a pet’s life with me. Sierra has been spelunking and kayaking, hiking and camping, Jeeping in Big Bend and tubing the Frio. She used to love chasing frisbees and tennis balls, but since going blind last winter she mostly enjoys laying in the sun. Miss Sierra spent some time working as a therapy dog in nursing homes and always seemed to know who needed her the most. She also thinks every human is here to give her scratches. This August she’ll be 15 and is getting a big party. She’s earned it. Thank you again! She always loves being the center of attention!

What an exciting life! You rock, Miss Sierra!,

What a joy to see a post from GLAD last night. Her boys are sure growing.

Rio! We are doing fine. Mom and Aunt get very distressed about the rioting going on. But are actually a little relieved to hear that most of the rioting and looting is not from the protesters but from outside agitators. Strange times we are living in right now.

Sierra sounds like a very good dog. I am at the vet with a 5-week foster kitty. I don’t think it is anything drastic. I will post more later. Mr. Big now has a younger sister named Miss Chessie!

Miss Chessie has been living downstairs as a long-term foster. Other foster kitties had come and gone but no one was interested in her. Mr. Big had been glaring at her through the French doors for two years as I played with her. Occasionally Miss Chessie would angrily fly up to the French doors and bat at Mr. Big. Last month a friend needed to quarantine in my downstairs living quarters and mentioned that she was allergic to cats. So I did a couple of successful meet ’n greets between Miss Chessie and Mr. Big and it went very well. They seemed very curious about each other, sniffing noses and Miss Chessie rubbing against Mr. Big and treating him as the #1 cat that he is. So I moved her into my living quarters. It has gone well although the curiosity and enchantment seems to have worn off. In the meantime, Chessie has blossomed into a full-fledged house cat so I made it official.

Did I want a sister? NO
Was I given a vote? NO
Have I been a bad kitty a couple of times? YES

Once up close and personal Miss Chessie at first seemed shy, sweet and was very respectful of moi. It didn’t take long before she started overstepping her boundaries: sleeping on my big bed, using my kitty litter, etc. I try and ignore her but she rubs up against me—WHAT IS WITH HER? I have chased her a couple of times and was rewarded with a shower from a spray water bottle that Attendant keeps handy. Miss Chessie is loud and when Attendant hears her cry, she automatically assumes that I am the one at fault.
What is with her having zoomies around the house? Attendant says she wants to play but she is too dang fast!
Attendant asks me to say one good thing about my sister….she doesn’t dare eat my food. Hmmpf.
