Moi

Teddy RR (in yesterday’s comments) kindly posted the author photo from THEIR WILDEST DREAMS, mentioning I was starting to look the way I do now. Not sure it’s true but Teddy RR is very nice. Here I am a few days ago (on the somewhat famous wall in Woods Hole, Mass.). [photo – Lannan O’Brien]

    Greetings!

Great picture of OFA, and a nice hat tip to Teddy RR!

Here in this neck of the woods the sky is trying to decide whether or not to be sunny or cloudy.

    Good day to all!

Good morning everyone. We love W&T’s Paw’s trips down memory lane.
Although hair styles and colors and fashions change, we can always recognize OFA. Heck, none of us looks like we did thirty years ago.
Okay, break time at the biblioteca is over. Back to the books. Try to have a good Tuesday.

Here is today’s GOOGLE Doodle which celebrates Omar Sharif’s birthday. I love the way the shadow plays across his face.

    Nice photo.

To answer Rio’s question: A “luddite” was a group of Englishmen who destroyed machinery because they thought their jobs were threatened. It happened in early Nineteenth Century during the Industrial Revolution. I guess another definition is someone who opposes technology.

    Good morning all.

    Spence, Looking good!

Our one warm, sunny spring day has morphed back into the normal April showers and cloudy skies.

Rose: Mon’s friend has returned to San Francisco. But, after such a wonderful visit, they will be keeping in much closer touch. She reports they chattered like magpies, and it was as though no time had passed at all.

Love today’s Google Doodle of the much loved actor Omar Sharif.

HOH: A Double D with different comments! How did you do that?

    A Message from CHobbitz:
“I tried posting this to the Chet blog twice and it vanished without a trace both times. The following request is from Mushing Magazine. I thought Whitey-Lance would be the perfect sled dog story to submit. Justin scratched from the race and spent two(?) weeks looking for him. Rebecca had told him, “don’t come home without my dog!” At the ceremonial start the next year W-L wore a dog coat that said, “If found, call …” The photo made the Anchorage and Fairbanks newspapers. Later two puppies were named after the villagers that helped find him. It is a great story of a dog, a dedicated musher and even the fact he got to live out a happy retirement. Poncho & Lefty would be a good story also, or Luna or… I hope there is a writer out there who would do any of the Snowhook dogs proud. Rebecca could help us with photos. Feel free to forward this email to others. The deadline is April 20.”

“Dear readers! We are calling on readers to send in to mushing magazine a short story and a photo of their all-time favorite dog. Doesn’t have to be an award-winning lead dog, but a dog with plenty of personality that puts a smile on your face every time you think of him or her. Deadline is April 20. Please send the story as a word doc and the photo as a jpg to editoratmushingdotcom. Mushing mag will pick one story out of the submissions for the upcoming issue. Thank you and have fun with the assignment!”

Yeep! Our Lady has a story in Whitey-Lance from our blog! Thank youse for thinking of us, Hobbitz.

More yeeps! We can report that our Lady and the Giant traveled to Utah to see Coach, the father not the sled dog inducted into the Utah Sports Hall o’ Fame. The banquet was last night. This was the first time our Lady and the Giant went somewhere together since heir hunnymoon that didn’t involve dogs. It was really special to see Coach honored. Yeep!

More about Coach, but this time the dog not the father. The kennel said goodbye to Coach and Patsy Ann last week. They are special to us. Coach was 13 years old, plus one day. Patsy Ann was ten. We love them. Sniff.

Thanks to Spence for the kind words back. Not sure why the wall in Woods Hole is somewhat famous (perhaps Spence can elucidate on this) but if you are interested in Woods Hole, here is a link to a NY Times article about it, although several years old now. There does appear to be a lot of interesting history there of a sea-faring nature.

Welcome to the Sled Dos, Coach, and Patsy Ann. They have been returned to Prime and are Frolicking with all the others on this side of The Bridge.

SnowBella: Congratulations to Coach, the father, for the Special Honor! It is wonderful youse were able to make the trip for the Banquet and to see him inducted into the Utah Sports Hall o’ Fame.

The Story of the Notorious Whitey-Lance is a Classic! It was the Tale of his Walk-A-Bout posted to this Blog by Siber-H, lo these many years ago, that Introduced us to SnowHook Kennel’s involvement in the Iditarod. We Love that Photo of him in the Jacket! And, wasn’t he the First Dog to be lifted to the Burled Arch at the End of the Race?

We thought Hobbitz story was well written. Or could someone find the post SiberH make lo those many years ago. Know MollyPop’s mom was great at blog archives but not sure how she did it.
Condolences to Snowhook on Coach and Patsy Ann’s passing.

Going Back in Time this is what we’ve discovered so far about The 38th Annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race 2010

Incidents: On March 10, Justin Savidis lost one of his dogs, Whitey, between Nikolai and McGrath checkpoints. He scratched in McGrath to assist in the search by volunteers and the Iditarod Air Force. Whitey was later found by McGrath residents in good health.

Here is the mention on the Blog:

Siberian Husky: I too am following the Iditarod. I’m concerned about “Whitey” the three year old missing from Savidis team. I hope they find him soon. They have people out looking for him.

I’m following nine different teams and having a great time. None of them have scratched yet.

Melanie: I am concerned about Whitey also. This has happened before and it has always turned out okay. Tell all ten Newfs to keep their paws crossed for Whitey and I will do the same. All you dogs and cats here keep your paws crossed for Whitey. There has gotta be some power in that.

I recognize that man on today’s post. He does look like the author picture on Their Wildest Dreams. Thanks Paw and OFA!

Congratulations to Coach (the two-legged). It is wonderful that both AJ and Rebecca were there to share the moment.

Rest in peace to beloved friends Patsy Ann and Coach (the 4 legged).

I’m loving the remembrances about Whitey-Lance!

    Shingles info:
There was a write up in the NYTimes about the “new” shingles vaccine which is way more effective than the “old” shingles vaccine. Three guesses about which one I got.
