“Nothing excuses it in my mind,” Admin says. “And no reporter has yet produced the name of the dog. That bothers me.”
Welcome Angus, Haley.

Good morning all. We couldn’t find the name or a picture either. Drat!
8:43 am on February 20th, 2013
Good morning all.
9:16 am on February 20th, 2013
Spencer!…He is like a Beau with a bone – he just won’t drop it…grunt!
9:17 am on February 20th, 2013
grunt.
10:38 am on February 20th, 2013
Happy Birthday to Buffy Sainte Marie

Grump.
10:51 am on February 20th, 2013
Happy Birthday, Buffy Sainte Marie. Thanks for posting that song, T&G. Our mom smiled thru her tears.
10:58 am on February 20th, 2013
B&M: Likewise…my investigative reporting has turned up nada.
Riö: a Beau with a bone. snicker.
HOH: Sending good thoughts and prayers for Ella.
T&G: Going to hear Buffy’s song now.
10:59 am on February 20th, 2013
Grrrrr.
11:09 am on February 20th, 2013
Here is the photo we kept seeing in my mind, but didn’t know where it was. This is Shiek and Mom leaving the showring, jubilantly, after Shiek took Reserve Champion of the entire show, beating out all those 5- and 6-figure horses. One of Mom’s many many happy memories.

11:15 am on February 20th, 2013
O’Howlers: That is such a great pictue of your mom and Shiek. Mom looks so proud, and Shiek looks like a prince.
11:19 am on February 20th, 2013
Thank you, Rose. We think Shiek was mighty proud at that moment as well. Mom had to buy champagne for everybody that night, and she tells of Shiek partying right along with all of the handlers/riders, long and hard, at the paddocks parties that night, and into the wee hours of the morning.
Ha! Next day’s classes were sort of a blur for them both though. 🙂
11:20 am on February 20th, 2013
Great photo Oleys. You can see the glow on Eileen’s face! She should be very proud of them both.
11:29 am on February 20th, 2013
Royals: Thank you for that Lovely Version of a favorite song. We have always loved Buffy Sainte-Marie.
O’Howlers: A Beautiful Picture of 2 old friends on a Very Special Day. Now you will have to excuse me…I seem to have something in my eye. Sniff.
11:30 am on February 20th, 2013
Wonderful pic, OHs. Your mom looks so happy! We’re glad there are so many happy memories with Shiek.
Happy belated bday, Jasper’s mom! Hope the middle of the mitten was rocking last night.
Thinking about Ella this morning. Hope the surgery goes off without a hitch.
11:36 am on February 20th, 2013
I’ll name that dog Angel.
Welcome new FOC Haley (a beautiful picture) and Angus (chasing clouds is fun).
Happy Birthday Buffy! I was listening to some of her songs last night. Cripple Creek where she plays the bow harp and Piney Wood Hills.
Prayers going out to Ella this morning for a successful surgery.
I love, love, love that picture of Shiek and Eileen.
12:03 pm on February 20th, 2013
I hope two things for Ella: 1) her surgery goes well an 2) she gets a slim Jim IV drip.
12:18 pm on February 20th, 2013
Dawson: How is your haircut?
Love the picture Howlers.
I wonder where Melanie is.
12:25 pm on February 20th, 2013
Tenzing, what a great idea! A Slim Jim IV drip for Ella. We are all pulling for Ella to recover well from surgery and to get that Slim Jim IV drip. …let’s all close our eyes and make it so.
Melanie and Zoe are hurting. Melanie will return when she is ready.
We also love the new FOCs.
12:29 pm on February 20th, 2013
I haven’t cut my hair yet. I’m going to read a little more of the haircutting book first. Staff made me think twice with her prediction of a grey-haired afro, but her hair is thicker than mine.
Melanie says she will post the Checkpoint Map before the race and not to worry. She is sad and trying to catch up on sleep.
12:30 pm on February 20th, 2013
I’m with Admin. on this one…no excuses. There is a point where I run out of pity for some two-leggeds.
Ella, You are in our thoughts and prayers today. Sharon, please keep us posted.
Fellow Sibers, Beautiful picture of your mom and Shiek.
Buffy St. Marie, Happy Birthday! She is a female singer that we love.
12:34 pm on February 20th, 2013
Rio! Please set down before you read this. I got the prize yesterday! Some days our mail is not delivered until after dark.
The quilling and the poem are beautiful. Thanks once again to your friend and Stover for all the work they put into this prize.
Masquers, I read your post last night and you are right…the mail does travel on holidays and Sundays.
12:56 pm on February 20th, 2013
Whoo hoo! Thank ya’ll for the thoughts and prayers. They worked and Ella Fats…er Fitzgerald is safe and resting at home. Thank Dog she only had 2 cysts and a granuloma caused by a bone spur. Nothing malignant but Sharon is thinking of renaming her “Lumpy” as this is the 4th time in surgery. We know your positive thoughts helped.
12:59 pm on February 20th, 2013
Hurray for Ella Fitzgerald! Thanks for updating us, Sharon. Lover her up!
1:01 pm on February 20th, 2013
The little packages have All been Delivered!
Rio must be so relieved.
1:08 pm on February 20th, 2013
Sharon, Very good news! Thanks for letting us know. We are all very good at worrying.
1:09 pm on February 20th, 2013
I think Dawson should cut a butt crack into her hair and post a photo.
1:16 pm on February 20th, 2013
Herd of Hounds: Ella home after a Successful Surgery. That is very Good News.
Oh, Steve, we’ve seen those butt-cracks Wolfie was talking about yesterday. They are not pretty.
1:22 pm on February 20th, 2013
A long, long time ago, weren’t the butt cracks called duck tails…like in the 1950s?
1:26 pm on February 20th, 2013
Siber-H: Hmmm…you may be right. Duck-tails Sounds a lot Better.
Let’s see…what old movie can we use for reference?
1:31 pm on February 20th, 2013
Steve: I beg your pardon?!
I am afraid to google butt cracks.
S’sHOH: Hooray!
1:35 pm on February 20th, 2013
I get it – duck tails. That’s better than the picture I was getting.
1:36 pm on February 20th, 2013
Grease!
1:38 pm on February 20th, 2013
Hey Dawson – read Wolfie’s post yesterday.
1:46 pm on February 20th, 2013
Dawson: Getting back to your earlier post…Angel is a good name. Now that the spirit has been Acknowledged and Remembered we believe it is grateful and at peace.
This may be why Spence & Admin have been so concerned that the dog has never been mentioned by name. All of us deserve to be remembered this way. It is our birthright.
1:48 pm on February 20th, 2013
Steve: Okay, I read it. I think butt cracks are different than duck tails. Duck tails are how the greasers in the fifties wore their hair, all feathered towards the back, not unattractive, except for the grease. A bc is, I think, an irregular part in the back of the head of hair and not at all pretty. Right?
1:50 pm on February 20th, 2013
It does seem very strange that no name is mentioned anywhere.
1:55 pm on February 20th, 2013
O’Howlers: Yes! Grease. Did we hear vague rumors that the movie would be remade with Travolta & Newton-John? Say it isn’t so. Better to let Oldies But Goodies remain unchanged in our memories.
Dawson: There does seem to be a distinct Difference between the two hairdos…one is by Design, the other by Accident.
2:07 pm on February 20th, 2013
Confusion over butt crack/duck tail. Is oone like an innie and the other an outie?
2:18 pm on February 20th, 2013
We are trying very hard to keep Mom moving on. But Kat’s Godmom Leslie sent us this quote, and we thought youse might like it too.
“We who choose to surround ourselves with lives more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle,
easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish
memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan. The life of a horse,
often half our own, seems endless until one day. That day has come and gone for me, and I am once again
within a somewhat smaller circle.”
-Irving Townsend “The Once Again Prince”
2:47 pm on February 20th, 2013
Sometimes, it takes a really long time to recover from the loss. We just learn to function by going thru the motions. Then finally, it gets a little easier. But how could we function without our 4 leggeds ? They are our source of unconditional love and our anti-depressants on the bad days.
3:06 pm on February 20th, 2013
Our Gramp’s favorite quote:
If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went.
HoundHerd – very happy to hear that Miss Ella will be up and singing a new tune before you know it. Scat baba bee biddle, do wa ba dee diddle…..
3:44 pm on February 20th, 2013
SiberH!…Wot!..snort!…You got yer package yesterday but couldn’t be bothered to tell me about it?…grump!…Some pal you are…sniff!
3:59 pm on February 20th, 2013
Rio, Our postman does not knock on the door and hand us the packages. He just leaves them on the front porch, which is protected. He did this in the dark. Mom didn’t find the package until this morning. We have a rural route mailbox even though my address doesn’t show it.
4:02 pm on February 20th, 2013
Oh yeah, Dawson, The two Yukon books also arrived yesterday. There was a goldmine of goodies on the front porch this morning.
4:13 pm on February 20th, 2013
This Day in History: Fifty-one years ago today, NASA astronaut John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth.
Howlers: A very beautiful quote. Thank you for sharing it.
T&G: We like Gramp’s quote also.
5:14 pm on February 20th, 2013
SiberH: In the Yukon Challenge book I learned that a local man, Adophus Capot-Blanc, who passed away last year, ran the Yukon Quest (a few times).
5:18 pm on February 20th, 2013
It is National Cherry Pie Day. I have a can of cherry pie filling in the cupboard. 1 + 1 = 2
5:38 pm on February 20th, 2013
Dawson – we will be over right after dinner. Just to visit….
Oh, dessert? Well, if you insist.
5:53 pm on February 20th, 2013
Your Gramps is right T & G. Why do some church groups like to argue that only a select few humans go to heaven.
That quote about horses is lovely.
5:58 pm on February 20th, 2013
SiberH!…Its a damn good thing you live in a dry climate…sniff!…I’d hate to think what would become of that twirled paper if it was left out in the blowing rain…grunt!
6:04 pm on February 20th, 2013
The Buffalo Sibers fired the coach. That let’s Siber-H off the hook for the time being.
6:18 pm on February 20th, 2013
Barb & Maggie, we think that quote applies to all of us in The Nation too.
6:53 pm on February 20th, 2013
heh heh heh

7:04 pm on February 20th, 2013
Have I heard correctly? It snowed in Tucson today?
We here have had no more than a flake all winter.
B&M: Speaking of snow…..
7:10 pm on February 20th, 2013
Howlers – that was too funny. Mama was laughing so hard she got the hiccups.
7:23 pm on February 20th, 2013
O’Howlers: aawww…The poor guy is Embarrassed.
7:25 pm on February 20th, 2013
Masquers, Yes they are talking a pretty good snow here tomorrow, starting after rush hour. Will continue till late Friday. This is good news, because Kelly is coming tomorrow morning to paint the den, and to pick up our pork order. We are excited about trying it. Hope it compares to the Caw Caw pork that Oleys get.
7:25 pm on February 20th, 2013
Love the pug pic! As long as we keep laughing we are alive. We need more “poop” like this one.
7:42 pm on February 20th, 2013
HOH: You are so right.
If we can smile through our tears and share a laugh with friends it makes the day so much better.
7:43 pm on February 20th, 2013
We just talked to Melanie and she sends hello’s to everyone. We told her about the pug picture – she said they had a Newf do the same thing but didn’t have the same consequences.
We saw the report about the coming storm too. Everyone duck and cover.
sigh – we are sooooo ready for spring.
Speaking of “duck and cover” – who else remembers the bomb drills in school where we would have to squat under our desk and hold an open book over our head? Like that would protect us from a nuclear blast.
7:46 pm on February 20th, 2013
OHs, that is a very beautiful quote.
Dawson, cherry pie is my very favorite pie. Am I too late to have a slice?
Sharon, such good news about Ella! Whoooohoooo!
7:48 pm on February 20th, 2013
Belle Starr, have you looked at the calendar lately?
7:58 pm on February 20th, 2013
T&G with you on duck & cover drills. Today when sirens get tested here in TN, I suckwind & run outside with herd so we can all “sing” together…don’t want them to know I’m afraid 🙁
8:01 pm on February 20th, 2013
Storm!….A storm is coming!…yeeep!…A Storm is coming…snort!…This is not good news at all….grump!
8:02 pm on February 20th, 2013
Diaper!….That’s a real diaper…grunt!…How in the world did they get it on him?…sniff!…Neither Beau or I would stand for that nonsense…gruffle!growl!
8:06 pm on February 20th, 2013
There is enough pie for everyone!
8:08 pm on February 20th, 2013
Dawson!…Not if I get there first!…snort!
8:20 pm on February 20th, 2013
Let me tell you all how dry it is here. The latest storm that arrived in this state is producing some snow in the mountains, but they say it is evaporating before it can melt because the air is so dry.
I’m looking forward to watching the next Buffalo Sibers game that shows up on my tv.
8:25 pm on February 20th, 2013
I just boarded a plane and am waiting to head north. It is the farthest north I have ever been. I will be traveling for the rest of the week for work. I’m not sure what the Internet access is like so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me.
8:25 pm on February 20th, 2013
Royals: Remembering those Olden (Golden) Days of bomb shelters and emergency drills it seems pretty naive now, but back then it was Serious Business. Wonder who ever came up with that crazy idea of hiding under desks anyway?
Dawson: Had my supper and I’m Ready for Dessert!
8:29 pm on February 20th, 2013
SnowBella! Oh, no! What about the little Jackets?
Nevermind that…have a Safe Trip and No Moose Stew.
8:29 pm on February 20th, 2013
Geepers!…Rebecca! I worry about you everytime I hear that you are boarding a little plane to fly even farther North….yeeep!
8:37 pm on February 20th, 2013
Dawson, Today I made the gingersnap cookies. I made Mr.Staff roll them in the sugar. We are a great gingersnap team. Most of them are stored till tomorrow but the Turtleman was here and he grabbed 3 while they were still warm and soft. Geez.
Dad has new drops for his eyes. He went to the VA with the Turtleman today. They were gone from 12:15 to 4:30. I was worried.
I also have cherry pie filling in the cupboard. Too bad I didn’t know about the day.
We are supposed to get snow and wind on Thursday night and Friday morning but they have lowered the accumulation to 2-3 inches from 3-5. Still windy though.
8:39 pm on February 20th, 2013
Duck and cover. The one thing that duck and cover would do (and the only thing) is protect you from flying glass, which as you may recall, was the main cause of injuries following the recent meteor strike in Russia.
Today was a big mail day. First, the most beatuful patches arrived from Snowhook. They are even more beautiful than I had imagined.
Also, Rio please tell your friend that the other package arrived today. And nary any tooth marks at all from those marauding goats.
8:42 pm on February 20th, 2013
snicker..someone we know has their very own masseuse.
http://dogwork.com/pmsor9
8:43 pm on February 20th, 2013
Early!…Wow! Wookie’s Paw got his package 2 days earlier than expected…snort!… Glad everything has arrived safely. Those are very special books…sneeze!…Some of them even have some of me on them now…heh!heh!
8:43 pm on February 20th, 2013
Oh Dawson, I added 1 tsp of pepper and 1 tsp of mustard powder to the recipe. They are rather spicy.
8:45 pm on February 20th, 2013
Maskers!…heh!snort!heh!….Now how in the world did you get that video?…snort!…I remember that vacation very well…snore!!
8:46 pm on February 20th, 2013
Darn that Alice. Now I posted with her avatar. Sheesh. Rio always notices when I do that.
8:52 pm on February 20th, 2013
Staff!…When I read Alice’s remark, I thought she had tossed in a few unwanted ingredients into your cookie dough today…heh!heh!
9:12 pm on February 20th, 2013
They are still saying 5-6 inches here starting late tomorrow.
Signing off for now….Nighty Noodle.
9:31 pm on February 20th, 2013
We just landed. We are half way there. I’m going to wave to CHH when we get up in the air again.
9:41 pm on February 20th, 2013
Rebecca!….A little bitty gal from Anchorage Alaska just gave a powerful performance on Idol…snort!…Her name is Adriana. Do you know her?…wheeze!
9:44 pm on February 20th, 2013
Rio: I don’t know the singer, but I heard last week that someone from Alaska made it into the top 20. I think I heard that correctly.
9:48 pm on February 20th, 2013
And…with this Strange News I say G’night – Bear

9:50 pm on February 20th, 2013
Funny!….snort!heh!snort!….Oh my dawg. Have you guys watched the link over on the facebookie thing?…heh!heh!…I almost laughed out loud a couple of times…wheeze!
9:54 pm on February 20th, 2013
Unicorn!…My friend is rolling on the floor crying she is laughing so hard over the guy in the pink Unicorn outfit…snort!…I hope she isn’t getting any big ideas…sniff!
9:56 pm on February 20th, 2013
Gasp!….One of my favorites is the Dancing Poodle…chorkel!wheeze!…Oh my!
9:58 pm on February 20th, 2013
Eyebrows!…OOOOH!…That one guy has eyebrows that rival Junior’s….funny!weeeze!
10:47 pm on February 20th, 2013
Rio – we think the pink unicorn would be a great disguise for your next secret mission with Nattie.
Didja see the Corgi who bravely fought off that viscious cabbage? Heh heh heh
10:47 pm on February 20th, 2013
Those were great, Rio. Thanks for pointing it out.
Rebecca, how do you have time for real work with the race so close? Do you have some help with the dog jackets?
10:59 pm on February 20th, 2013
Alaska!…Makes it to the top 5 on Idol!….Wooooooo!Hoooooo!…Too bad Rebecca and Junior don’t know her…grunt!
10:59 pm on February 20th, 2013
My favorite is #10, the crow who pulled the dogs tail. (Unless it is a Raven). Reminds me of BStover for some reason.
Nighty noodle youse guys. And g’day to Liz. We haven’t heard from her for a while. Hope all is well in OZ.
