Merry Christmas, Everybody!

And an inclusive shout out to all the other holidays going on. Here’s our Christmas Day post from 2011. Nothing’s changed!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

“To one and all,” says Spence. “And especially to all involved in this blog community.”

“Did you get that tinsel out of Audrey’s mouth?” Admin says.

“Had to reach way in there,” Spence says. “The metallic taste must have been driving her crazy.”

“Let’s give her a treat.”

“Another one?”

“Why not? It’s Christmas.”

Merry Christmas to all! (Geez, Audrey–no nutritional value. Sage, I’m sure it was mostly about the extra fiber, right?)
HOH, O’H, T and G and all your family, Bee, Kat, Wose–good to hear from you so early, Staff, Spence, and everyone who has yet to check in: Bless us everyone and have a wonderful day, however you spend it. What a cute puppy.

Keiko was up on the kitchen counter this morning. Right next to the roast that was getting ready to go in the oven by sitting out at room temperature for an hour. She was ignoring the roast and licking the butter. Sigh. She was then banished to the upstairs.

My cousin Mike, the one who has a rescued Husky named Pepper posted this on facebookie this morning
“I slept late — 7-ish — this morning. Pepper didn’t like it and wanted out, so she marched upstairs came alongside the bed and let fly with a loud and otherworldly Husky shriek. A smoke alarm going off wouldn’t have gotten me out of bed faster that she did!”

Staff – that story about Mike and Pepper made us howl. No pun intended. Or maybe it was. Anyway, we laughed out loud.

We are doing a rib roast too. How do you do slow cooking method? We are doing the high oven, down to low oven method – supposedly will only take about 2 hours, but the idea of that does make us a little nervous

But we are also doing escargot for the appetizer – yummmmm

Rio! Please check your sdd quick, like the evil pug that you are!

It is an overcast and windy day here in our neck of the woods. Today, Grizz and I will be visiting my long-time friend, Fran’s home. Her boyfriend has deep fried a turkey.

Christmas Eve dinner was catered by our chef friend. Roast loin of pork stuffed with asparagus, parmesan cheese, and prosciutto (I had to look that up in the dictionary), with roasted Brussels sprouts with pancetta. There will be left-overs for days! De-lish!

Hey Staff: I slow roasted a prime rib yesterday. It was delish. I just did what the man who lives in this house told me to do (doesn’t happen very often) and it turned out perfect! He has been nursing a cold for several days. I’m thinking about prime rib benedicts for leftovers. Oooooh, I’m getting hungry.

I shoveled about 4 inches of snow off the driveway. Sunny and not too cold. It doesn’t get any better than this!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Alice M: The bait was ready for the taking and we waited in disguise. Because of the winter wonderland storm that was falling Pancho was disguised as a snowflake and Lefty was disguised as Pancho. We heard a clatter—it was show time!—and then the power went out, out, out. Amidst the darkness, the commotion, confusion, candy canes, cursing we heard the trap trip. Success! We managed to catch a certain bearded man in the trap! Once we managed to free the Giant from the trap he said we could keep the fish head. When did Santa visit? We have no idea. We woke this morning to a copy of ‘All Things Trap: a Thieves Guide’ and a note that said: Better luck next time, boys! St. N.

We were left all alone this afternoon, but Pop made it up to usby cooking us our very own steak when they returned home.
We keep forgetting to tell youse two things. First of all. We got Snowhook Christmas presents right on time. Yesterday, we received our Snowhook 2015 calendar, as well as our Howling tree ornament. Great timing!
Last weekend, on our hike, we met a couple who made a big fuss over us. They used to have a husky, who lived to Sasha’s age of 17. The guy asked about the Snowhook patches on Mom and Pop’s jackets. He was going to check out the website and possibly join the list of supporters! Yippee!!!

We have had a lovely, long and peaceful day here. Gramp loved his present of Callie’s portrait. It made him cry and he says Andrea is the greatest artist since Michaelangelo.

And Gramp is giving us a trip to Washington DC! He knows we have been talking about taking another trip to see the memorials, and go to the Smithsonian. So he is getting plane tickets and a hotel room for us. Maybe we will even get a chance to see the Ruff Rider and his family.

The prime rib came out perfect and the puppies are looking forward to the bones tomorrow. All in all, it was a good day, even if there were parts of our hearts missing.

    Hello All,

Merry Christmas. I know by now it’s the day after for most of you but this is the first chance I’ve had today to sit down. We had about 8 inches of snow which means clearing the driveway and working in the dog yard. Sort of a good news bad news situation where we need the snow but man I hate to move it. None the less it was a white Christmas here in Willow.

We have been very blessed to count all of you as friends this season and throughout the last few years. Running Iditarod has become a team effort with all of you on board and we appreciate having you in our corner.

Which reminds me that I wanted to tell you that the team is doing great with accomplishing nearly a 1000 miles this month alone. If things stay on track this will be the most prepared I’ve ever been going into Iditarod. The only catch is that an early Christmas present came in the form of Twix bars thanks to Blue Cat. After testing several they mysteriously disappeared with a disclaimer that if they were left around I’d eat everyone before drop bags were due. Simply because I ate them all last year and then proceeded to eat all of Rio’s cookies… In the end they should reappear when drop bags are due.

All the best from all of us. We’ll see you on the trail….
