Merry Christmas!

“Clement Moore and Charles Dickens basically invented modern Christmas,” says Admin.

“Can we just have some fun anyway?” says Spence.

Sounds good to me. I smell interesting things under the tree. Merry Christmas to all: plunderers, visitors, all who care about our fellow creatures – especially those of the nation within – and of course the readers of the Chet and Bernie stories.

    Merry Christmas!

Every year we sing the traditional Christmas song.

Deck us all with Boston Charlie,
    Walla Walla, Wash., an’ Kalamazoo!
    Nora’s freezin’ on the trolley,

Liz: Most everyone will look at last night’s posts and see yours of early this morning…our time. Have a wonderful holiday.

    Alice and Mollypop: Great songs!

Melanie: I just finished your story. I love it and the pictures. (Are they photos or…?) I think that you should write (if you haven’t already done so) a collection of short stories and get them published. Here are some of the things that stood out to me: “The light was fading making a black and white world.” Love that image. “My old friends, the stars, were dazzling.” Great description and insight into your character. The entire description of flying down the hill (no more body pain) is wonderful. Okay, so you have your assignment. Now start writing those stories…in your spare time!

    Quote of the Day:
” And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. ” ~Dr Seuss

    Melanie,
I agree with B. Your story is remarkable; your images visible treats. Thank you, now I’ll let you get on with your assignment.

Here’s a bit of Christmas trivia I just read and would like to share.

In the late 1800s, a candy maker in Indiana wanted to express the mn the late 1800s, a candy maker in Indiana wanted to express the meaning of Christmas through a symbol made of candy. He came up with the idea of bending one of his white candy sticks into the shape of a Candy Cane. He incorporated several symbols of Christ’s love and sacrifice through the Candy Cane. First, he used a plain white peppermint stick. The color white symbolizes the purity and sinless nature of Jesus. Next, he added three small stripes to symbolize the pain inflicted upon Jesus before His death on the cross. There are three of them to represent the Holy Trinity. He added a bold stripe to represent the blood Jesus shed for mankind. When looked at with the crook on top, it looks like a shepherd’s staff because Jesus is the shepherd of man. If you turn it upside down, it becomes the letter J symbolizing the first letter in Jesus’ name. The candy maker made these candy canes for Christmas, so everyone would remember what Christmas is all about.

I’m anxious to go out and find a candy cane to check as to whether today’s confectioners respect the tradition of the stripes.

    Merry Christmas, Everyone.

Merry Christmas to Each and Every One of You!!
Merry Christmas to Spence and Family and Chet and Bernie!

I like Stover’s review of Melanie’s story and agree with it…Melanie should continue writing.

TYB, Thank You…I never knew that about the candy cane. That is a nice story and we will, also, be checking out candy canes.

The photos of me and Rio in our Rockies caps are on this page right now. (I don’t know how the photos work for everyone). Ah Ha…Could this be a Christmas message that the Rockies will have a winning season!

There is also a story that we have seen several times on tv that a choir master had them made to keep the children quiet during services. Candy canes that is.

Melanie: I agree with B. also re your story.

    12:56 pm on December 25th, 2010

I just found both histories of the candy cane on the internet..they don’t really conflict. The choir master story comes before (these were all white candy canes)the red stripes on the candy cane.

Mom always thought the hook on the end of the candy cane was so you could hang them on the Christmas tree. She never could do that because she has always had dogs. drat…I would have only eaten the ones I could reach.

C.Harris: Wonderful video, have sent it out to friends . . .

Thanks all, I do enjoy writing. What is “spare time”?

Those are photos that I changed with photoshop.

We had a Merry Christmas. Exhausted Dan with many visitors. He is very happy. The Pack is enjoying stuffed toys. One is singing “Santa is Coming To Town”. It is not as annoying as you would think, because each of the pack puts the part that is making the noise in their mouths, muffling the sound.

Dan’s loving his iPad. We now have an email for him and he wants a raven as his avatar. He should be able to link in to the blog on Monday.

Riö: Will you please send the directions on the avatars to me again?

Love the books, Macy. Sound good.
I’m confused, you are in love with a Great Dane? Inquiring minds want to know!

Siber-H: confusing about the storm. Of course, they rarely call it right. At this point, the storm seems to be centering around NJ, South East NY, Easter MA and the Cape.

YSAS’s SO has said supposedly blizzard conditions when she starts for here on Monday. But, our forecasters are saying maybe 4 inches of snow and it will be over by Monday at noon.

Should be a hoot to watch the TV weather. They’ll have people standing in the streets, on the beaches, in snow drifts, anything to grab attention.

There was a weather person somewhere, I think it was in MA, who during a flood, was giving her report from a boat.

Talking about how that’s how people were getting to work. Yadda, yadda, yadda. . .

Behind her you could see people wading in water up to their ankles.

    Shaking head in disbelief here.

With that I take myself off to bed and to snooze with Patsy. She has again managed to take up the entire queen size bed.

Well it is time for us to go to sleep. We got cute little scarves from the Catty Librarian. They match the scarves that Staff, MrStaff, Mom and Dad and TurtleManFred and his wife got. We are so special!

Maybe we will get a picture of us in our scarves if we can stop chasing them long enough.

Maybe not. I guess I will just have to play with my catnip sock. It is red and has white fur-like stuff on the top and my inital in rhinestones. I bet Macy and Sam would love to get one too. Only maybe not with Catnip.

Staff says she is getting ready for bed now.

Just got back from a day with friends. I’m glad everyone enjoyed the video. I thought Siber-H would enjoy the huskies. This tiny village is in SE Alaska. I live in the north but this represented village life pretty well and was a neat idea. The teacher did it in a weekend…10 hours of filming and then edited and posted it.

  54. C. Harris
    11:24 pm on December 25th, 2010

Oops…forgot to give the weather report. At mid-morning it was only -2 which was an unexpected heat wave. It did drop to -20 but that is still great for me. The village at +6 might have been colder because of wind off the Bering Sea. I don’t usually wear gloves until it gets below -20 or if I’m going to be outside a long time….I think your hands get used to the cold. Ditto for a hat but then again I have long hair. Once I cut my hair off in the winter and was shocked how cold I was without hair.

Good night and Merry Christmas everyone. We had a great time here; lots of steak (grilled tenderloin) came my way from all our visitors. Grandpa got a Kindle, which is up and working. I (with help from mom) got dad an IPAD, but we now need to upgrade the operating system (whatever that is) on his computer before he can use it. We’ll get that done soon, although maybe not tomorrow, because we may be having a lot of SNOW. Not clear at this point what will happen, the forecasts are all over the place (like for Melanie too). A little snow would be great, but too much not so much. Anyway, we will know more in the morning. And special thanks to Chet, Bernie, Spence and Admin and even Mike Baker (if he survives his encounter with Stover) for making this such a special place that we all share.

leaving thhe buyer in the literal cold. t already have one, obntain a drain pan and position it under the filter housing to catch any drips when you pull the filter out.
