Good morning all. That was a very touching feel-good story. Brought a little tear to my eyes. It’s a safe one to read Howlers.
Nala is doing good work and cheering up many elderly.
Rainy here and warm. You can almost see things growing. My favorite time of year.
8:54 am on April 13th, 2015
Good morning, B&M&L and everyone! Glad it is getting to growing season for Barb. Rainy here too, probably for the next week.
The Nala story is wonderful and happy 🙂
Have a monumentous Monday.

Good morning all. After having me go to work before the sun came up this week I am going in mid-morning. I am all out of sync. Hope everyone has just the kind of day they want.

What a wonderful dog you are Nala.
Good morning all.
10:21 am on April 13th, 2015
Nala! Sob, sob!
11:13 am on April 13th, 2015
Our hospital in Canada has a new policy: no dogs. Makes no sense. Hooray for Nala, the staff and the administration of the hospital.
Thunderstorms last night had Alice looking for cover, Abby not bothered and the black kats begging to go out.
ML: We are having a sunny day.

Dawson: Not Allowing admittance to the Nation Within?
How Heartless!
11:43 am on April 13th, 2015
Probably some administrative dope who thinks dogs will carry in diseases. Or perhaps bite someone.
11:48 am on April 13th, 2015
Only if they desperately need it.
12:28 pm on April 13th, 2015
Good Dog Nala! Good morning to all and best wishes for the day.
I am back to work and have mixed feelings about Conan, who seems a bit sad (or possibly traumatized by his three days in hospital) despite his healthy enzyme levels. May I send him for a brif stay under the quilt so he can recover his good spirits?
12:30 pm on April 13th, 2015
…and that should have read “brief”…
12:53 pm on April 13th, 2015
Conan: The Quilt awaits!
12:59 pm on April 13th, 2015
Speaking of Biting Someone…I’m on my way to Canada to see a certain Hospital Administrative Official…would anyone care to join me?
1:25 pm on April 13th, 2015
BSD, Blondie here, May I join you in your trip to Canada to grab a hospital administrator’s pant leg. Sounds like fun and something goos to include in my puppy resume. Be right there.
2:03 pm on April 13th, 2015
Welcome to the Mission, Blondie.
Look, there’s Rio with his little knapsack Preparing to Leave his Backyard.
Perhaps we could Convince the Royals and a certain Pink Bulldozer to also join us in this Caper?
2:10 pm on April 13th, 2015
YOu’re the boss dog. Don’t imagine it could hurt.

Future Learn is beginning an online course today on World War I. Here’s a link for any interested:

Bear! “Speaking of biting someone” what a great start to any sentence! Godspeed on your mission y’all (will you be working undercover? Disguised?)
Howlers–thank you for the Vicktory Dogs update. I just forwarded to everyone I know. Off to continue my survey of public transportation in Southern California…
3:10 pm on April 13th, 2015
Commander Rio: Requesting Permission to Blurr North.
3:12 pm on April 13th, 2015
Public transport in So cal. What a concept. Mom lived in LA/OC for 50 years and everyone pooh pooed everything but the CAR. Within a couple of years after leaving the land of granola (fruits, nuts and flakes) there are metros and subways and trains. Whooda thunk!
3:12 pm on April 13th, 2015
We are locked and loaded, awating final permission.
3:19 pm on April 13th, 2015
Whilest the motley crew proceeds on their most important mission, I will check out the latest class offered at Future Learn.
B: Thank you for the link.
Note to DianeC: They may, or may not, be in disguises. If they stopped off at the kennel on their way to the northern destination (and I suspect as much) several of the Snowhook dogs will have ideas on how best to proceed uncover.
4:50 pm on April 13th, 2015
(psssst, BSD, what happens if we have a wardrobe malfunction?)
5:08 pm on April 13th, 2015
Hounds: That would be Very Unprofessional, to say the least, and in the event of such an occurrence you will be on your own.
5:35 pm on April 13th, 2015
Sorry, Hounds, But it’s called a Dropped Dog Policy. This is Mas Importante and we Cannot Risk Discovery of our Secret Mission.
Just keep yourself together, No Barking, and there will be No Problemo.
5:43 pm on April 13th, 2015
AOK (we mean aok).
6:41 pm on April 13th, 2015
Yeep!
Have I started a mission? The thing is, although the no dog policy is in effect, security is nil, the administrator is rather unaware, and the nurses are dog-lovers soI had no problem bringing in a little dog to an inmate of the long term care right before I left the country. Stand down, Plunderers.
6:45 pm on April 13th, 2015
Aww carp! And we were just getting the bulldozer oiled up.
6:50 pm on April 13th, 2015
Mission aborted! I repeat. Mission aborted. Everyone return to their yards (that means you, Blondie, and Macy Min-Pin & crew).
6:52 pm on April 13th, 2015
Tundra! Get Back in Your Yard. Pronto.
6:57 pm on April 13th, 2015
Oh, carpola (as mom would say). I was looking forward to my first mission.
7:25 pm on April 13th, 2015
Youse realize of course that Commander Riõ is in charge of all missions? At no time did I hear him barking the go ahead.
7:37 pm on April 13th, 2015
Oh, I understand, we were getting prepared just in case. Gotcha.
9:20 pm on April 13th, 2015
Nala is a Good Dog. The best. I have to go lick some salt off Momma’s face now.
But first: she finally took me to the doc about my hurtin’ paw. I got a shot. Momma says I will hopefully be better by this time tomorrow.
9:31 pm on April 13th, 2015
Oh Kat – we thought the paw was all good. Are you OK now, sweet girl?
9:39 pm on April 13th, 2015
Well, this is a bit of a disappointment, but OK. I’m sure there will be other Missions in future (exciting ones).
I owe everyone some gratitude as Conan seems to be benefiting from his quilt time and may be checking back in during the week if that’s OK (he can contribute some of his stash of special liver/kidney food to go with the Cheetos).
9:44 pm on April 13th, 2015
My momma thought it was getting better, and she was giving me pills. Then we went for a walk and I was worse. This morning, I couldn’t put my paw down. It is one of my toes that is sore. Neither the dov or my ‘rents can see anything, but the doc thinks it is bruised. He is wrong. What it is, is “hurt”. He gave me a long-term steroid shot. Do youse think I will now bulk up and get mean?
9:49 pm on April 13th, 2015
In other news, yesterday I met a Ladybug–a canine movie star. One of the AALOC (Animal Assistance League of Orange County) dogs was adopted and recently made her debut in a new movie about an International Wiener Dog competition. She plays the British dachshund entrant and it’s quite a demonstration of her range as an actor since she’s a chihuahua mix. I’ll let y’all know how the flick fares on the local festival circuit.
9:51 pm on April 13th, 2015
Dear Sweet Kat–Nothing could make you mean, but the shot may make you a little more comfortable–I’m hoping so, anyway.
HOH–Did I tell you about being thrown off the subway (not just me–everyone) two weeks ago? If not, I’ll let you know via backchannels…
9:54 pm on April 13th, 2015
Kat, we think the shot will help your foot feel better. Diane, it is so gracious of Conan to share his special food under the quilt.
Rainy, rainy, rainy here and the pattering on the roof is making us all sleepy.
10:05 pm on April 13th, 2015
Kat – the only thing that may bulk up could be your appetite.
And we know for FACT that ice cream is very good for hurt toes. Especially if you eat it.
10:19 pm on April 13th, 2015
Feel better, Kat. Ice cream sounds good. Have some coconut ice cream bars in the freezer. Night all.
10:19 pm on April 13th, 2015
Diane, Conan is always welcome under the quilt. Anyone can propose themselves for quilt time, you do not have to be invited. It helps if you bring treats and if you want to play cards with Tenzing you usually have to wear collars, harnesses, booties and extra tags on the collar. They like to play strip poker.
nuff said.
10:50 pm on April 13th, 2015
AbbietheKitty–thank you so much for the elaboration. I will see that C. is appropriately accessorized (cummerbund, ascot, etc. should a card game break out).
11:19 pm on April 13th, 2015
Diane – pretty safe bet that it is WHEN a card game breaks out, not IF.
Tenzing not only makes a great pillow, he also consistently draws an inside straight.

For paths and basements, garages and driveways, patios and steps, concrete flatwork is frequently the setup of choice. It is significantly more affordable than brick or stone masonry, and raising alternatives and expertise in finishing is enabling concrete flatwork to compete aesthetically. Everything you have to understand about concrete flatwork is that it’s not a bland do-it-yourself setup. It might demand careful consideration, much just like a countertop or floor covering. Matching design and the right concrete finish to your project will greatly enhance the standard of your residence as well as the installation.
Concrete Flatwork Options
Not all concrete flatwork is created equal. This is true of function that is decorative and its structural integrity. Superior quality concrete needs just blending accelerated delivery to ensure proper curing, aggregates, and use methods that are delicate to accomplish a finish that is long-lasting. Various methods will produce different kinds of finishing. Smoother finishes should be preserved for inside. Smooth concrete can be slippery when wet. Brush-textured concrete is not worse for exterior concrete flatwork.
There’s more to finishing than just potency and security, though. Ornamental concrete contractors can use this finishing procedure to assist them create all kinds of interesting, warm, and inviting effects with concrete. Coffee tables, Countertops and other interior concrete facilities commonly give you the challenges that are most fascinating, but your concrete drive may be finished and dyed to look like a flagstone driveway. Your neighbors won’t believe it’s not abstract.
Using dyes or concrete stains, a contractor will make your concrete flatwork look like almost any substance, including your basement floor to look like hardwood. Given that below-grade hardwood flooring is a big no no, many homeowners locate their way to decorative concrete flatwork for their cellar floor.
Problems with Your Concrete Flatwork
Though concrete is one of the very most durable materials available to homeowners, problems can still occur. Different issues generally have different root causes. Odds are your problem could be dealt with using these suggestions, in case you are having trouble by means of your concrete:
Dirty or Stained Concrete: Splotches or blots on concrete surfaces can normally be removed by a professional powerwasher. Sealing the surface against spillways can prevent this.
Chipped or cracked Concrete: Often fissure openings in the surface or little pieces breaking away are signs of future problems. Take these tiny signals seriously and possess a contractor check out the problems and make repairs.
Cracked or Broken Edges: Normally caused by impact or erosion, cracks could be fixed in the event the issue is small.
Flaking Concrete: Should you begin to see the surface breaking away, this could indicate the concrete mixture could be flawed. The unique mixture of elements of concrete gives it durability and strength. Flaking isn’t a common characteristic.
Settling: Settling is a familiar source of damage as earths shift down and up over time. Concrete is made for strength, but not always for extreme flexibility. Little shifts are okay, but shifts that are larger will damage concrete. Settling is frequently a serious and expensive problem. Typically, repair is not an option.
The review concludes with some perspectives on research needs for the long run.
1. Remove, soils that are soft, and rocks so that support for the slab is uniform. Place concrete on undisturbed, firm soil, if at all possible.
Tricks_22. So that the concrete slab surface slopes the absolute minimum of two percent, or 1/4 inch per foot, to provide sufficient drainage. place forms
Hints_33. Utilize a scrape template, generally, a section of 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber equivalent to the specified slab depth with stakes attached to the top surface at every end, or a string line on the other side of the top of the forms to guarantee suitable slab depth.
Tricks_44. Purchase air-entrained concrete if the flatwork will be exposed to
Don’t hard-trowel air-entrained concrete.
5. Specify a minimum cementitious material content with regards to the most aggregate size as shown in Table 1, to ensure good finishability of the fresh concrete and great durability of the hardened concrete.
Hints_66. Don’t use high-slump concrete. Control water additions in the truck. A great depression for most flatwork set by hand: five inches. Even high recession due to admixtures may be detrimental as the paste content (and shrinkage) of the upper portion of the slab may be greater than the lower portion of the slab — leading to increased warping.
Suggestions_77. Never allow wet concrete to remain in contact with all the skin while placing or finishing concrete, or to saturate clothing, enter boots.
Tricks_88. Hit off the surface while keeping a little bit of concrete in front of the straightedge to fill in low spots. This aids to prevent birdbaths in the finished surface.
Tricks_1010. Do not perform any procedure that is finishing while bleed water is present at first glance.
Hints_1111. Make sure the groove depth is one-fourth of the slab thickness. As an option, saw the joints using an early- cut saw or a standard tool. Jointing helps prevent cracking.
Tricks_1212. Do not steel trowel concrete which has more than 3 percent entrained air. Tough troweling of air-entrained concrete may cause surface deterioration.
13. Begin curing the concrete immediately after completion of finishing procedures.
Suggestions_1414. In places with freezing and thawing cycles, if concrete is set late in the fall, use wet-curing methods rather than membrane forming curing compounds. This will permit the concrete to dry before the initial freeze. In any case, inform the owner to not make use of deicing agents during the initial winter.
