Good morning, everyone! OFA, Thanks for a howlingly happy story.
T&G’s Mama, we don’t check eyelids for leaks, around here we “read” the inside of our eyelids.
Going to library now. BBML
8:31 am on November 18th, 2014
Saw that story on the news yesterday. Buddy is very devoted to his person, and it had a happy ending but something bothered me about the story. The person being interviewed said the owner’s daughter adopted him for the father about 4 months ago. I thought rescue places were supposed to interview the person who was going to live with the dog and not let someone take it as a gift. Secondly, the speaker said that he wasn’t concerned when Buddy was missing because he was always disappearing but would come back. Maybe that is exactly how Buddy, a Beagle, ended up in rescue in the first place.
8:32 am on November 18th, 2014
Good morning! Buddy, Who’s a good dog?
9:48 am on November 18th, 2014
Good Morning All–
Having some trouble with the computer and have a horrific amount of work to do, but I did want to check in at least.
B, M and L–I quite agree. However devoted Buddy is, he should be in a better home with responsible caregivers.
Later…
9:51 am on November 18th, 2014
Morning all. We are off to see if we can coax the little Rat out of hiding. We have a home for him/her. Great people with 3 little girls who love animals
Wish us luck
9:54 am on November 18th, 2014
I like Buddy’s ears not to mention his “holding” power. (Perhaps he’s part cat?) I’m glad the story has a happy ending.
The wind chill is minus four here and the word being used on the Weather Channel is “blustery” which describes it well.
Good morning all.
10:24 am on November 18th, 2014
Staff — please check your bootie SDD when you have a chance. Also doing a test to see if I can recover my avatar. Someone apparently swiped it yesterday.
10:26 am on November 18th, 2014
Yep, it’s back. Bet it was those marauding goats who had gotten it yesterday.
10:32 am on November 18th, 2014
Hitched!…Something about this story reminds me of Iggy. Would Iggy hang onto the outside of an ambulance if one of the Parsons were to be taken to the hospital?…snort!
11:11 am on November 18th, 2014
Roads are all closed in and out of Buffalo and the southern suburbs are in a state of emergency. Here I have gotten just a sprinkle of snow. The grass is still sticking out. Nearby, where those of you who came here on the train know is not far, has a foot of snow and a little bit south of that they have two feet of snow.
Here’s a picture of the storm taken from my fifth floor window.

11:13 am on November 18th, 2014
We got down to 32 degrees this morning BRRRRR!
11:19 am on November 18th, 2014
We caught a Rat! A pretty little white and gray spotted Rat.
Our vet will see the Rat in a little bit. But for now, the Rat is curled up, sleeping in the travel crate. We think it’s glad to be warm and dry.
11:27 am on November 18th, 2014
We Like Happy Endings and think Rescue Dogs are the Best.
Now Buddy is back with HIS buddy and all is right with the world.
Thanks, Spence, for this Feel Good Story to start the day.
Barb,Magpie&Lucy & Diane: We don’t have a problem with the “Gift” aspect of the story because it came out of a daughter’s love for her aging parent. IMHO anytime a shelter dog is able to find a loving home is a Happy Day for all concerned.
We do question the actual breeding of litters to assist in Rescue Operations and for use as Therapy Dogs. Why? Because Shelter Dogs have proven to be excellent at both Rescues AND as Therapy/Companion Dogs.
11:33 am on November 18th, 2014
Golinka! That is very good news…little Rat warm and dry and soon off to his furever home.
Good job.
MPM: Excellent foto!
11:34 am on November 18th, 2014
I’m watching the news of the storm on television now and things have continued to worsen. South of the city now has 40 inches of snow. The storm is supposed to move south into ski country where they would appreciate all this snow, but it seems to have stalled and that 40 inches just might turn into 60 inches.
11:38 am on November 18th, 2014
Pop’s sis lives in that area, MPM. She posted a photo and you can’t hardly see her neighbor’s house.
Hurray for the Rat!!!
11:38 am on November 18th, 2014
B: It sounds like a good day for us to take your easy chair for a spin.
11:39 am on November 18th, 2014
MPM: 40-60 inches? YEEP!
11:40 am on November 18th, 2014
(counting on my paws) that’s 5 FEET OF SNOW!
12:00 pm on November 18th, 2014
Charlie: Let’s go! And I think you’ll enjoy reading about Richard III.
Tupper’s Mama: I’m glad you found the cat Rat.
MPM: That is a lot of snow. I’m sitting here watching snow clouds moving eastward…sorry. Hopefully it will move to ski country.
12:00 pm on November 18th, 2014
Yeeeeep! 60 inches of snow? We can’t even think what that would mean for Corgis.
12:43 pm on November 18th, 2014
Feet!…It would mean death by smothering to us Pugs…grunt!…This is why I have my Big Plant Backup Plan in place…snort!
12:48 pm on November 18th, 2014
I’m feeling sorry for the people who are stranded in their cars. A lot of them have been out for five hours on Broadway. That’s the street that goes by the railroad station if you all remember.
1:04 pm on November 18th, 2014
Wow, I would like to see 60 inches of snow. Mom tells me I just think I would like to see 60 inches of snow.
I hope the people stranded in the storm can get rescued soon.
I am glad you caught the Rat and have found a home for him.
1:06 pm on November 18th, 2014
We propose a certain kitty as F O O D.

May we introduce the kitty formerly known as Rat
1:09 pm on November 18th, 2014
What a pretty kitty!
1:25 pm on November 18th, 2014
Rat/Kat, you are beautiful and a great FOOD. Be glad T&G’s Mama got you. Life will get better now that you have been through a rough patch.
1:45 pm on November 18th, 2014
I am a little spaced out here, but love the pic of the Rat. I hope to get to read the rest of the blog later today but must run way too many errands now.
Teddy, I saw your message and will be able to work on that bootie thing tonight.
MPM…WoW that is a lot of snow. Our doors would not open…Yeep indeed!
1:54 pm on November 18th, 2014
Snowflakes this a.m. the size of dimes. Thank dog the ground is warm and the clouds cleared. Our thoughts are with those of y’all with white shiitake everywhere. Stay warm and safe.
2:27 pm on November 18th, 2014
Just had trouble getting on the blog. Did this happen to anyone else?
2:29 pm on November 18th, 2014
No!
2:35 pm on November 18th, 2014
T&G, that cat is really cute. Does your brother know that you found her?
MPM, gah! They could be trapped a very long time. We are hoping and praying that everyone survives alright.
2:42 pm on November 18th, 2014
Welcome Rat as FOOD! (wait…somehow that didn’t sound right)
He is very cute and Bigger than I had imagined.
Very Worrit about those that are trapped in their cars. This is bad.
2:48 pm on November 18th, 2014
Traveling in snow always reminds us of a “Little House on the…” book. Pa stuck out, Mr. Edwards stuck out, in town with not a lot of anything! SOOOOOooooooo
glad some of our forbearers actually survived!
2:54 pm on November 18th, 2014
Masquers, No, I am not having any trouble with the blog today. I am using google chrome if that makes a difference. I don’t know.
2:57 pm on November 18th, 2014
60″ of snow is just too much to even imagine! Hope all those stranded get home safely.
We thought Rat was going to be a little kitty. He looks full grown, and also seem to be very calm in his new temporary environment. He is also very pretty. So happy you found him.
BSD, Regarding the gift element of rescue, I think that is to prevent people from taking an animal from rescue and giving it to someone whe relly didn’t want a pet/companion. I do agree with you that some of the rescue places are way over the top with their interviewing processes before they place a pet.
When I read Orphan Train last year, I was struck by the fact that they placed those children with fewer requirements than we do today for our four leggeds.
3:06 pm on November 18th, 2014
O’Howlers, the National Guard has been called out.
3:14 pm on November 18th, 2014
People were stranded in their cars on I78 a few years back. It was really bad. Even with rescue organizations involved, those people were stuck for most of a day, if we recall.
3:17 pm on November 18th, 2014
The National Guard is bringing equipment (payloaders?) to scoop up the snow around the stranded cars and put it in dump trucks to be able to get to the people. We have plenty of snow plows but still need more.
3:21 pm on November 18th, 2014
Here is the story of the Valentines Day storm in 2007:
http://www2.readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=74443
3:40 pm on November 18th, 2014
O’H, that is scary!
3:43 pm on November 18th, 2014
Thank you, Siber.
3:49 pm on November 18th, 2014
Howlers: That is par for the course in situations like this…officials pointing fingers instead of taking responsibility.
3:55 pm on November 18th, 2014
Amen to that statement, Masquers,
5:41 pm on November 18th, 2014
I agree Masquers and Siber.
5:43 pm on November 18th, 2014
That was Mom. Us? We don’t know what officials do.
It is freezing cold here, even for Sibes! -6 windchill today! And it is only November. (Isn’t it?)
5:52 pm on November 18th, 2014
It ha also been colder than normal for this time of year here but nothing like some of you are experiencing.
6:11 pm on November 18th, 2014
Siber: What is your “colder than normal” temp?
6:22 pm on November 18th, 2014
Masquers, Our low tonight is suppose to be 26 and our normal nighttime low is 33 degrees for this date. Our normal daytime high is around 55 and it has been running in the high 40s during the day. The humans here think it has been an extra cool fall overall.
6:40 pm on November 18th, 2014
Evening news just said Buffalo will get 70″ of snow in some areas. MPM, when are you planning to move to the new place? How is it in your immediate area?
7:00 pm on November 18th, 2014
Barb, here at the hotel we have no snow. It starts a bit to the south of us. The train station where you came in has a couple feet of snow, people stranded out on the road near there and a driving ban. The storm is a lake affect storm that oscillates north to south and back again and it is stalled right now over the area where it’s dumping. If it doesn’t move, they will soon have 70 inches of snow.
My new apartment is in downtown Buffalo where they have some snow but not much.
7:49 pm on November 18th, 2014
There have been four confirmed deaths due to the storm. I hate these things.
7:55 pm on November 18th, 2014
MPM, we wish we could take away the worry. Hate weird storms but will keep you and the b i l and HRH B and Bluekat and BB and Mass folks and all in our hearts
8:03 pm on November 18th, 2014
MollysMaw!…Were they Pugs?….sniff!
8:04 pm on November 18th, 2014
MPM, that’s awful! How did they die? Was it snow clearing, or did it have to do with the trapped cars?
8:05 pm on November 18th, 2014
HOH, we went back thru the posts and can’t figure out who the bil is that you mentioned up above.
8:09 pm on November 18th, 2014
Four deaths already? That is terrible. I bet they were not Pugs.
8:16 pm on November 18th, 2014
And in the meantime, Anchorage is almost 40 degrees with a very light rain. It is supposed to be that way tomorrow also. No snow. Ugh. However, I did rake up the final 5 bags of leaves. Take care everyone who are scheduled to get our winter weather.
8:30 pm on November 18th, 2014
B&M&L we have a bro-in-law in Niles MI, just north of South Bend In. He moved north to take care of his folks who passed in the ’90’s. Can’t figure why he stays in the cold when there is a house here in the Chatt area on an acre for him, but…to each his own.
8:32 pm on November 18th, 2014
And can we please ship this frigid air back “North to Alaska” so that this year’s Iditarod has some white shiitake on the ground? Please?
8:54 pm on November 18th, 2014
MPM – you stay safe, please. Do not go out in that deep snow. You are not much taller than us Corgis; you would get lost.
So, the kitten. HE is a 9 month old boy. His underbits were intact when Mama took him up to the v e t today. Now they are in the trash.
When Mama found him today, his name was Rat. Now that we know he is a he, his name is Bartholomew Cubbins, named for the “hat” on his head. ( if Rat was a girl, she would have been named Minnie Pearl)
Cubbins is staying with the v e t until his FIV and leukemia tests come back. And his fleas are all gone.
After that, we will see what we will see. Mama says it is totally up to Basil and Sage. And Cubbins.
9:21 pm on November 18th, 2014
Cubbins!….Shudder!
Stover!…We have 5 new Gilmore Girls episodes to watch!….Yeeepeee!
9:32 pm on November 18th, 2014
We love that name T & G. What would he be called for short? Cubby?
HOH, a Shitake is a mushroom. I think you are misinformed.
9:39 pm on November 18th, 2014
We’re Watching Gilmore Girls too.
Bartholomew Cubbins…Cubby, for short…I Like it.
9:40 pm on November 18th, 2014
Rio – are you jealous? Would you like Cubbins to come live with you?
Barb – if Basil and Sage say OK, and the kitten lives here, he will no doubt end up being called Cubby, or CubCat or CuddleCub or some other such nonsense. IF he comes to live here, we will just be calling him Wrotten Kat 3.
9:44 pm on November 18th, 2014
T&G, my dears, this kitty is your uncle’s kitty. It is important to keep him close. You could help out here, you know.
9:57 pm on November 18th, 2014
MPM – we really don’t mind. One cat more or less won’t matter to us. But Basil and Sage – well that could be a different story- especially since they are all males. The v e t thinks that since Cubby is young and tiny, the Wrotten Ones might take him in. Especially since he doesn’t have any more under its than they do.
( we shouldn’t say this out loud, but Cubby has already adopted Mama. He just wants to be held and cuddled)
9:57 pm on November 18th, 2014
White shiitake B&M&L we don’t want to think about….! No we do not! Do not like white on the ground.
10:00 pm on November 18th, 2014
White shiitake B&M&L we don’t want to think about….! No we do not! Do not like white on the ground.T&G y’all go with the new kitty. Hope all are A. O. K. Please. Nighty night, heading back under quilt until Thursday…please.
10:01 pm on November 18th, 2014
and this is not a double Dawson…so there!
10:08 pm on November 18th, 2014
Belated response to Thieves–Of course I’m praying for you, and always will.
Not that anyone asked, but I really hate my life just at present. I’ll check back in when the mood passes.
If ever.
Which I doubt.
10:13 pm on November 18th, 2014
Diane C: may you wake up tomorrow and have a good day. Perhaps you have been working too many long days without time for things you enjoy.
10:14 pm on November 18th, 2014
Night all. We will have snow in the morning, but just a tiny bit compared to MPM and others further east. Here it will be in the 50s and raining by Saturday. Crazy weather! Stay warm and safe everyone.
10:15 pm on November 18th, 2014
Diane C – we think you should have a good long chat with Edgar and Miss Pretty. Add a cuddle or two and little licks from tiny pink tongues.
Life will look much better after that.
10:19 pm on November 18th, 2014
Special, positive energy winging west to Diane C. Now, nighty noodles for real.
10:30 pm on November 18th, 2014
Jealous?…snort!…Are you kidding me? With a name like Cubbins he will be laughed right out of the house in no time…grunt!
10:44 pm on November 18th, 2014
Rat!…I actually thought Rat was a clever name for a Kat…heh!heh!…Rat The Kat….snort!
10:53 pm on November 18th, 2014
Rio – brother has had other cats in the past, one named Dog, one named Appult. And he had a rat whom he named Fink.
Yup – that was how we knew the Kat named Rat was his.
10:54 pm on November 18th, 2014
LOL
Night All
10:59 pm on November 18th, 2014
Chorkel!…A rat named Fink!…snort!…Now that is a perfect name…heh!heh!
11:11 pm on November 18th, 2014
If he owned a Pug, he would name it Nacious. That’s how he rolls.
11:25 pm on November 18th, 2014
Word!…Nacious? That is not even a word…grunt!…If he owned a Pug he would call him Troll….heh!snort!spit!
11:31 pm on November 18th, 2014
No he wouldn’t. Trolls have LONG hair.
tee hee
And with that, we will say g’night, family
12:41 am on November 19th, 2014
Well I am up late taking care of things before the big cleaning and packing day tomorrow. Alice is up on the counter telling me all about her horrible terrible no good day. She is telling me about it over and over and over and… you get the picture. Poor baby.
The things, I mean Keiko and Henry, have been incarcerated once more. Mr.Staff said Alice hid all day and she didn’t come out until the two tiny ones were shut away for over 2 hours.
And, I HAVE NEWS!
The Bootie fund has received another donation. With the donation and it’s match the fund is up to 945.00. That is just 55.00 away from 2/3 of the way to our goal of 1500! And it is way way closer to our next prize. Just a very tiny bit away. Teensie tiny. Really. I will post a picture of the next up prize in the next post.
So thank you dear donor and, just so you know, there are 50 bootie dollars still waiting to be matched WhaHOOOOOOOoooOooo

12:43 am on November 19th, 2014
