Meet Babbette!

So many great pics coming in to the FB page! Thanks, everybody! So much fun! The random number generator’s been smokin’! But finally R#G speaks: “Babbette!” That makes Babbette Chet’s April friend of the month, no foolin’. Babbette will be the profile pic for the month (as soon as IT shows up) and her human companion will get a signed copy of Of Mutts And Men, the latest Chet and Bernie novel. Next month this could be you! Just post a pic to the FB page. R#G does the rest!

Congratulations, Babbette! Love your ears. I am sure Wee Nigel would too!

And congratulations to POM, the kat of considerable girth, Mr. Big! I love that your Attendant caught you in the middle of stealthily sneaking around!

Wow. Those are some ears on Babbette. Congrats.

Today is an important day…more later for an announcement of my own.

Attendant is cheerful today. I know it is because she turned the page on the Plunder On! calendar. Yes it is moi. Attendant will be happy all month seeing my photo (2 photos!) every day.

Maybe there will be salmon in it for moi. I deserve it.

Mr. Big: I hope Attendant is cheerful enough to give you that salmon.

My big announcement (NOT an April Fool’s joke):

Today I am cancer-free! Last September just before my birthday I was diagnosed with an unusual and aggressive cancer. Thus began my “journey to wellness” via surgery, chemo and radiation. (Chemo is a bitch). Today I had my last radiation treatment and I am cancer free with little chance of re-occurrence.

What is next? A journey of work to regain my health, my strength and my energy. By the time my next birthday rolls around I should pretty much be back to my old self including having hair.

I don’t have any pearls of wisdom to impart. I remember telling one of cancer doctors that I had expected this to be a more profound journey. She leaned back in her chair and laughed and laughed. She is a cancer survivor herself and said that later when I am on the other side of this journey, I may realize some life lessons. We will see.

Today I invite you to celebrate your health. And to honor and remember all those who have taken this journey… and the family and friends who walked besides them. A few Plunderers have walked beside me these past months and given me words of encouragement along the way. In my darkest hours, they were there for me.

Oh, sweet congratulations to Hobbit. I did not know you were taking this difficult journey and I am so glad you are through what must have seemed like a dark tunnel at times.

I don’t post often, but in addition to gladness for Hobbit, I have something mysterious to report. I probably would not have except that the dog of this new month is a Shnauzer. And here is the sadness that follows the gladness. Murphy, our Schnauzer crossed the rainbow bridge about a week ago. We had to make that hard decision about “the right thing to do” as he had congestive heart failure and the meds did not help. He was starting to suffer and we had made a promise we all make to our dear pets that we will not let that happen. The Vet agreed life was now hard for him. AND today….when I saw the dog of the month was a Shnauzer, I gasped a bit and then decided to take it as a sign from doggie heaven that all is well, and he was met by others that have been loved on this page. Murphy’s best pal, our Shnauzer Zoe has had some issues adjusting but is feeling better now with extra attention.

Duh, Schnauzer is the correct spelling of course!

Hobbit, such good news! We don’t know if it was good medicine, good genetics or just plain stubbornness, but we are so pleased.

ALR: I do believe in signs. Your Murphy is restored to prime and living his next best life. Pet Zoe for me.

Hobbit — race well run, my friend. Relax and rest now.

ALR — thank you for sharing your sign. It’s sweet it came through Chet’s to you.

Thankyou Plunderers for supporting and agreeing that the Random Number Generator was lead to choose the Lovely Babette the Schnauzer for friend of the month in her honor AND as a sign that my Murphy is restored to prime. We often need to be reminded. Murphy once got to chase our nephew’s free range chickens….he did not catch one (thank goodness) but considered it one of his best days. I hope he gets to chase chickens once in a while with his dog smile on his face.

Hobbit! Such good news. I’m sure you will back to your old self before you know it. Take in some foster kittens. That will help, I’m sure.

ALR, so sorry to hear about Murphy. But what a wonderful surprise that he sent you a message through Babette. He is indeed restored back to prime and has probably already chased his first chicken.

What a day….as Chet would say. Thank you all, I feel lighter in heart thanks to Babbette and thanks to Hobbit’s good news.

And due to Covid (of course) I have been doing a lot of reading. Just a few days ago I came across my copy of Dog On It. It was good to re-read it and I do believe I will reread the whole series in preparation for Tender Is the Bite.
