Medwick Ducky Medwick

“Interesting recipes were turning up down below yesterday,” Spence says.

Recipes? That has something to do with food. I open my eyes. But why? I can hear just as well with them closed. I close them. I open them. I close them.

“What’s he doing?” Admin says.

“No idea,” says Spence. “Did you see that message from your dad?”

“No.”

“About Quacky Baseball. He got himself a copy down in Florida, caught the Medwick Ducky reference. He wanted you to know that as a little kid he saw Ducky Medwick playing for the Cardinals against the Braves.”

“Cool. The Boston Braves, of course. He must also be one of the only people around who saw Babe Ruth hit a home run in both leagues.”

“Should we give him a call?”

“Not now. He’ll be at the gym. Also we’ve got to figure out this whole patch thing, design and manufacture.”

“Sounds like a project for tomorrow.”

Welcome dude who fell into a tough life, Nanna, shotgun rider (what a pic!), Texan partier.

    Good Morning All!

Another rainy day in New York. My beloved Yankees were rained out last night, and will play an afternoon game today.

Bravo on another great review, Spence! I think this time the reviewer actually read the book!

    Good morning, all.

Patch thing? This is getting better and better!

I love our new friends! And I haven’t even met them. But I love the photos. They made me laugh. Hey guys, jump in and say hello sometime.

ROSE!! You missed the party last night!

I want a patch, Wölfie that would be awesome.

In the middle of working for YSAS, will be back later, but Zoe watched the third egg hatch last night!

    Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the baby birdie pictures.
Rio: One thing I think should be mentioned about the Plunderers on the Snowhook write-up is that so many of us are rescues. Rebecca and AJ do a fair amount of rescue-ing and I’m sure they would be interested.
Me too! I want a patch.

Chet: Please keep your eyes open because I’d like to know more about the patch design. Good review except they have the wrong cover.

OK Rio, Now you have the official go-ahead! Add the maurading goats and send it!

We liked the Fresh review. Better than most, and we agree, it seems the writer actually read it.

Great party last night. We will be printing some of the recipes for future enjoyment. Thanks again to T & G’s mama.

That had to be a new record for posts, or close to it.

Good morning,y’all! Yippee, Rio got the stamp of approval from Spence — so do like he says and send it to Rebecca! And stop grumping!!!

T&G: I’m soooo sorry I missed the party last night. Mom was painting and the paint fumes must have messed up my mind! I’m especially sorry I missed the Kirby’s Buried Treasure Soup — I can’t believe you named a soup after me. I’m so honored!!!

(Speaking of buried treasure — I already unburied my bone and ate it — it’s so nice to be able to eat on my own schedule instead of when Mom and Dad think about feeding me!)

Oh, Rio, you’re cracking me up!

This Sunday the new Upstairs Downstairs series begins on PBS…9PM Eastern Daylight Time.

I’m having the most delicious coffee (yes, I am late this morning). It’s a new flavor that I ordered from Counter Culture Coffee: Jagong. It arrived this morning just in time. Tasting notes on the label: “Deep notes of dark chocolate and spice layer atop a heavy, syrupy body. Just a touch of fruit rounds out the experience–mouthwateringly profound and intense.” (That could almost be a poem couldn’t it….except for the “mouthwateringly”–too awkward.)

The last thing I remember is reading Rio’s notes to Rebecca, when suddenly we fell off the Grid. Note to Rio: We loved reading the background on Chet and the Plunderers.

T&G: Looks like it was a fabulous party with a wonderful variety of soups and salads. The Corn Chowder would have been especially welcome, as it is still quite chilly here in the Northwest.

Ponderding…could being on the Dark Side have had something to do with our aborted flight? Next time we plan on arriving early with the correct coordinates.

Going now to have some breakfast and catch up on yesterday’s posts. Have a good day everyone.

Hello all. That was some party. We printed off the recipes which we will definitely be tryng again.
Patch! We want a patch !!! Will we all get one or is that just for the Snowhook team? But we are members of the team, right?

Mom is so happy and relieved today because that 3rd eaglet has finally hatched. Thanks for posting pics Melanie. BTW… what is YSAS?

B: You are so much more observant than us, but why do you say Fresh Pick used the wrong cover?

  31. OleyHowlers

Oley, We are going to jump in here with an answer for you – YOUNG STARVING ACTOR SON of Melanies. As apposed to OLDER TATOO ARTIST SON. Hoe we got those right.

Also, the cover shows Chet with a white ear. The cover we have has him more shadowed. Is that the difference, Bee?

  33. Melanie
    12:48 pm on April 7th, 2011

    Dawson was a rescue?

Confused here. Whoa, now the eagles have brought up a huge fish. You can just see it’s tail.

  34. Mollie (a black poodle)
    12:48 pm on April 7th, 2011

Rio: Just read your “background story”. It is great. I am saving it.

Reward is now up to $100,000 for the capture of the guys that attacked the Giant’s fan.

Melanie: Thanks for the Eagle pics.

  35. Kirby T. Penworthy
    12:53 pm on April 7th, 2011

Wow, those eagles sure have a varied diet — rabbit, bird (is that their version of cannibalism?) and now a fish! Do you suppose they have any white wine to go with that?

  36. Riö - The Evil Pug
    1:11 pm on April 7th, 2011

Sox! …The Red Sox are playing the Indians right now…heh!… The score is 0 – 0 in the 4th. Plenty of time for them to lose this one too!…snort!

  37. Barb & Maggie
    1:11 pm on April 7th, 2011

Kirby, I think fish makes up a large percentage of their diet, which is why they are found near large bodies of water.

Off to work for the afternoon. From Barb: I am supposed to be semi-retired, so this every afternoon stuff is for the birds!

  38. Melanie
    1:18 pm on April 7th, 2011

Riö, They will win this one! I think the goats should be in your report. You did a great job. And your friend did a great job of typing for you. I hope you don’t forget to thank her.

The eagles now have the hare, bird and three fish. They must have heard about our party.

  39. B.Stover
    1:22 pm on April 7th, 2011

Oley: The review shows the cover with the white ear. The cover that was used has both of Chet’s ears black. This was discussed on Facebook at one point and I suggested that the white on Chet’s ear is in the front not the back. I think Spence commented that that made sense.

Wolfie: I forgot to say yesterday–thank you for thinking of me. I’m not lonely. I’d love to have dogs and cats but it’s too difficult. When working, and depending on my teaching schedule, I’m often away from home. Next year after I retire I’ll be living some of the time in Florida and my condo there does not allow pets. Thank you for the thought.

Here’s another thing I’ve forgotten and it’s been bothering me: Mollypop and G&BB were also among the first to comment on Chet’s blog when it first started.

Tyb: “Overdid” is one word and you didn’t overdo it. We’d like you to continue plundering on with us.

Barb and Maggie – You seem like very smart Plunderers, but you haf gotten some things wrong.
OTAS is code vhich Natasha has broken. Is actually Official Tough Assignment Spy. Ve are still vorking on breaking code for YSAS – do not vorry your pretty heads about it. Natasha is not Vorld’s Best Undercover Corn Chowder…ooops…Vorld’s Best Undercover Spy for nothing!

Thanks B. for the verification. I knew overdid was one word, but when I type I’m so used to spacing between words that I didn’t even notice the gap until I proofread after sending the message. That’s not bright either is it. One should proofread first, then send.

Mollie ABP – I’m glad to hear about the reward, particularly $100K. Good for them. Someone(s) knows who did it and needs to speak up.

Have the Plunderers ever considered turning all these fond memories into a little book? There is so much good information here – what with quilts, missions, unique pack members, the map and Snowhook Kennel. It would make a great story in book form.

Bear: Publishing the blog with comments in book form is an interesting idea. I know that blogs powered by Google (blogspot) do publish the blog in book form and it’s not that expensive. I don’t know if comments can be published there. It’s for private use of course, as a gift to friends or whatever.

Macy, have you checked WWF lately? I think we have a game started!

Rio – see I told you so!

I thought WBL meant (I’ll) Write Back Later. What do I know!

Has anyone looked at Snowhooks facebookie lately? Rebecca talks about needing to sell their 4 wheeler because they needed the cash. And then they bought another one on credit. I was touched by their honesty, and I am so glad that we can all be here for one another. I’ll be sending in my second check in two weeks.

  59. Wölfie
    4:19 pm on April 7th, 2011

Bee – I could be mistaken, but I think your students would love having a border collie puppy AND a jack russell terror puppy as classmates. They are so quiet and small that noone would even notice them. And I’m sure that your neighbors in the condos wouldn’t even notice a couple of quiet, sedate puppies.

ha, ha, ha….I can just imagine Bee teaching a class with those puppies bouncing off the wall. Of course, border collies are working class, so they could grace all the papers for you, giving you more time to read.

    Woo Woo for the Rockies!!!

ummm, Macy, the Rangers did not play a game today.

    We like Melanie’s Iditarod song.
I’ll have to read that on Snowhook’s Facebookie page about the 4-wheeler. The last time I was there, I read about the dog truck having to be towed 30 miles because it wasn’t working. We will send another check soon.
I’m allowed to go to Facebookie and read, but mom says, “That’s all”.

  66. Siber-H
    5:03 pm on April 7th, 2011

I will add…The problems Snowhook are having are normal in the world of dog mushing. Unless a musher is wealthy, and most aren’t, expenses like broken down dog trucks and affording a 4-wheeler are to be expected.

  67. B.Stover
    5:21 pm on April 7th, 2011

Wolfie: Where did you see that FB post regarding Snowhook? The last thing is see is from yesterday:

“While Rebecca focuses on everything that must be done between now and next March to get to the starting line, AJ’s mind is consumed with what will happen after he pulls the snowhook.

Drafting possible run/rest schedules, walking around with race map in hand and assessing who just might make the race team AJ is focused on the 2012 trail. Already.”

B: About the Publishing thing – I was thinking more in terms of the background story of the Blog, similar to what Rio sent to Rebecca yesterday, pictures of the Quilt, other Member photos, the Map, etc. There have been some really interesting uploads lately – such as Rio & Wookie on the Jumbotron, the O.Howler’s sign, the Quilt, and TYB’s driver’s license from yesterday. Too bad we can’t get Melanie’s YouTube video on there, but we could provide web-links to things & people of interest. And, recipes! Including T&G’s mom’s wonderful recipes! Too many others to mention them all here. We would probably need to create a special blog for this purpose. I know we are focusing on Snowhook right now so maybe it’s something to consider for the future. Perhaps Chet could get some insider information from his contacts in High Places 🙂

Kind of a long couple days here in Chevy Chase, which is why I just blew in quickly for the Party last night. While I am coming along just fine, not so good for grandpa. He was hospitalized over the weekend with pneumonia which very quickly became more but he is getting better and in a rehab place that Mom and Dad think I may be able to see him outside this weekend.
Mom and Dad just adored Rio’s biography of The Plundeers. That once again demonstrates why you are THE Commander and responsible for planning and executing all our Missions. You’re the best (almost as good as lamb cutlets!!). Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dawgs!…She’s cooking Hebrew National hotdogs tonight and is going to put a little of that hot chili she made on them…yum!…I’m still hungry, kibble never ever cuts it…huffle!

Well, I got a lot done today. snicker

Actually, I just rested up. Though Patsy and I did go for a walk. She got to smell things (yuck) and it was sunny and it was pretty. Love walking with Patsy, she and I have an understanding.

BearSpiritDog, I told Zoë that you lived on an island and she thinks that is totally cool!

Stayed up late last night for the party.

    So going to bed now.

Oh, B. Stover: Just tell everyone that the blushing is color from the sun!

    Bear,

Good for you for not crumbling. The first time Rio did that to me, I cried and didn’t post for a long time. But I got over it when I realized that it wasn’t against me personally. It seems as if every newcomer gets his or her turn. Rio has a Good heart and just keep that in mind.

WHAT?….A one word post!?…grump! …I totally despise one word posts. They raise the blog count in a bad way. They say, “I cannot write because I am an idiot”….growl! … What a waste of space….snort!

It doesn’t add any quality to this here blog. That’s what we’ve been talking about for the last couple of days, isn’t it?….wheeze!…The quality of this blog and this community. Go ahead. Nice thought Dawson! I’ll go hunt for one.

A woman I know once talked about her boyfriend when he was very grumpy, she said he ‘looked like somebody shat in his handbag’ – do you have that expression? It made me laugh. Maybe Rio has a handbag…

Here’s a portrait of Monet, called ‘Visiting Claude’s Garden’, Julie and I visited Giverny last September and spent the day in the lovely garden there. For you, Bear (and Dawson!)

Hi B.Stover – now here is an interesting thing – we did indeed have 3 pages on yesterdays blog. But you only had two. Hmmm.
We don’t have any trouble with the dark side, posting or reading. But some people do. Hmmmm

Didn’t Red Skelton have a character called Clem Cadiddlehopper?
Not sure of the spelling. I haven’t thought of that for years, not since I was a kid. But that’s who I am thinking of.

It snowed here today in the foothills. Not enough to stick, though. It was beautiful.

Rio: thank you for sending the story of how the Plunderers came to be. Try as I might, I knew I would not be able to capture the Plunderers’ history.

I haven’t been able to visit with the Plunderers as much as I would like, but I am overwhelmed at your kindness, the sense of community and support you offer to each other. During the race, I would visit Chet’s blog in the wee hours of the morning to pass time while AJ moved along the trail. I found myself laughing, crying and getting a much needed distraction to watching his GPS tracker move in fifteen minute increments. Thank you.

Chet on the trail? Could it be? Often on the trail, AJ listens to audio books to keep him awake and alert. Earlier this week, AJ downloaded Spence’s books and was introduced to Chet and Bernie for the first time. What better way to understand what the Chet and Plunderer hubbub at Snowhook Kennel is about than first hand? He became an instant fan, and he is already planning on taking Chet on the 2012 run from Willow to Nome!

SiberH, I still stand on my statement that the Rangers did not lose today. he he

I personally get very uncomfortable and poodled up when rudeness takes over. It is one thing to play with someone, but another thing altogether when one “person” feels that he or she is more important than anyone else. I get enough grief in my real life that I don’t need it in the place I come for comfort. No one should be made to cry. I’m just sayin’…. (mom here, Macy is much more mellow)

I haven’t finished yesterday’s posts so I am off to catch up.

    Rebecca,
My husband didn’t understand my connection with the Blog until he heard ‘To Fetch A Thief”, and now he is a huge fan also!

And don’t forget, Peter Abrahams is almost as good a writer as Spence. And he has written lots more books. A lot of his mysteries are a little dark, but I think that you would absolutely adore Ingrid. She is the star of the Echo Falls series. She is 13 and she is our hero. Yes, indeed, Ingrid is a good place to start. You know, I have some extra copies. I’ll see if I can’t send them to your PO Box. Not sure if AJ would like them, though.

Rio seems a little put out tonight. Hope he cheers up overnight. And his team won! Our team had a bad day. The new Japanese second baseman that we beat out other teams for broke his leg! Ouch! And we are at the bottom of our league. Nasty!

Hi and good night everyone. We were busy this evening, so just checking in. Want to finish the book from Melanie, and then may start Water for Elephants. Has anyone read it?

Liz, thant you for posting the picture. Lovely!

Bear, We like having you on the blog, and there are no dumb questions. Asking questions is how we learn. Rio scared us away when we first started posting, too. Now, if he starts picking on us we just ignore him. Don’t engage!

Wookie, Good wishes and a speedy recovery to Grandpa. Glad you are doing well too, and hope you can get some tummies this weekend. Tummies are my favorite!

Rio – ve think you may need more fiber in your diet. Think about it anyvay.

  132. Gus & BooBear
    10:33 pm on April 7th, 2011

Wookie, hope Grandpa feels better real soon and we’re sure that giving you tummies will be good therapy. Guess winter was hard on alot of folks in the colder climes. We think almost everyone “up north” had some kind of cold, flu, pneumonia or aliens in the knee.” Hope spring shows up soon for all of you.

Snowhook Bella, we are a strange group and, like alot of close families (even cyber families) we have our tiffs and disagreements. But when push comes to shove, we rally around any one who needs the encouragement or prayers.

BearSD, keep posting and often. We (Gus, BooBear and Mom) often just read instead of contributing. We’ve been posting on the blog almost from the beginning, but love to see and hear from new Chet fans as well as the old timers.

Macy, the Astros have lost as many games as the Rangers have won. Some things just never change!

Water for Elephants didn’t grab mom quite soon enough. (She has a short attention span.). But I know that a lot of people enjoyed it. The movie is coming out soon; that should be interesting.

You know, we ought to send good thoughts towards Rio. I think there may be something significant happening in his life. It’s a balancing act trying to set boundaries and being compassionate enough to overlook certain behaviors. I know that I care deeply about that little pug. Rio: Geez Louise! (as my mother would say) Feel better. Don’t burden us with your problems as we have enough of our own. My father had a stroke last week and it has been tough…

    Take care everyone.

  141. dawson
    9:16 am on April 8th, 2011

C.Harris: I’ve been wondering about your silence. So sad to hear about your father.
Rio: Such a drama dictator. I am no leader so I respectfully decline your offer of turning over your commandership. It will never be.
It would be nice if you could respect all of us on the blog. We are all equal here, including the newcomers, and some of us are not here to improve our writing styles. I, for one, did not sign up for the “Be a Better Writer” course, by Rio the Bully. I signed up for the “Wag your Tail Every Day” course and “Start a Happy Breeze Flowing” course by Chet the Dog.
I realize that you are just trying to bring this blog to a higher level to “honor the author”. Start your own blog. Then you can be all rude, dictate what posts are allowed, call us idiots and humiliate us with your scathing words. This is Chet the Dogs blog and he ain’t Shakespeare. He loves us and wags his tail when he sees us no matter how we write. It doesn’t get any better than this!
