Med School

“What did we do before the internet?” says Spence.

“Had actual thoughts,” says Admin.

Spence has this way of not hearing what just got said. He and I are alike at times.

“For example,” he goes on, “I found this link to the kind of surgery Audrey had – tibial tubercal advancement – that makes it easy to visualize.”

“I’d have preferred Sundays With Ingrid,” Admin says.

Welcome Rocco and family.

Good morning all. Barb looks up everything on the computer. Instant grafification. When she was a kid she had to go to the library or use an encyclopedia.

Rio commented last night about his friend’s mom putting her tomato plants in already. Same thing here – last week it hit 90, and Barb’s friends told her she was silly not to plant the fragile things. Now it is in the 40s with dipping into the upper 30s last night. Next weekend should be ok we hope.

Morning MagPie and Mango, I looked it up. Perhaps I’ll look it up again after caffeine.

End of May for us! Ummm, MagPie will you ask Barb how I should plant the bunching onions? Do they bunch when they are ready or do you plant them in a bunch?

So Audrey, six to eight weeks recovery? You will have everyone well trained by that time. Just whimper a little and use your nose to point!

Melanie, Just plant them about 1/4 inch deep in a row. They will look like grass when they first start to grow. They are called bunching, because they will keep multiplying year after year into a large clump. You can start pulling them when they look like scallions. They will never bulb and dry like onions that you keep for the winter, just keep looking like a bigger gren onion.
BTW, pretty exciting about YSAS. Have a question, not sure if you can answer this. Why are they not allowed to talk to the big shot actors? Is it because those guys have such inflated egos, or is there another reason for it?

There can be hundreds of extras on a film. Producers do not want their Stars mobbed.
Just recently YSAS was on a set where two of the background people were trying to hand out their resume and headshot to the top people in the show and the top production people. The director had their names taken and them threw them off the set. Not good. Neither is just plain talking, talking about the acting going on in front of them, having their phones ring . . .

Being background means being in the background. Some people don’t understand that and then wonder why they don’t get called again.

Staff: I was on one of the weather sites I visit each morning, spaceweather.com, and they had a picture of the clouds just after the Twins game on the 10th.

Large hail fell and then the clouds formed mammatus clouds. I just wanted to know if Minnesota has clouds like that because you have a lot of cows?

Audrey!… I wonder how Audrey’s first night home went ….snort!…Did Spencer stay up and watch over her or did that grumpy Admin take turns with him….snuffle!

Music! ….When her father was alive he never let her mother listen to music in the dining room….snort!….Now we know why. Her mom likes that old-timey, twangy stuff that Admin enjoys so much….gah!… Now we are listening to old-timey twangy gospel music. The only reason I am staying where I can still hear it is bacon is being put in the pan to fry and I don’t want to miss anything….grunt!

No Admin. This is very interesting. (I love Ingrid but I prefer Chet and gang.) And the internet is wonderful for research and could be much much more if government, libraries, publishers would cooperate.

Good morning all. (Rain rain rain rain…….)

Thanks for posting the medical info, Chet. It does make it easier to visualize, and to sympathize. We are crossing paws that Audrey is not in that 40% that gets the acl rupture on the other side.

    Welcome to Rocco.

    Happy Sunday to everyone!

We had our first home-grown loose-leaf lettuce of the season last evening. DELICIOUS !!!

Oley, You are a little ahead of us, but the green onions are ready to pick, and the arugula is just a few days away. A few bush and pole beans are peaking through. We plant Kentucky Wonder pole beans around a 4′ tomato cage, and that works great. Pole beans seem to be more prolific than the bush beans. If the blasted weather would improve it would help.

Open House today at 1:00. At least it is not currently raining, but it is cold.

Morning y’all! Raining here too, but yesterday was such a nice day that a little rain is ok with me. Big Bicycle Race and Art Studio Tours on the Island with lots of folks enjoying the 65 degree temp.
While many of you are enjoying tasty vegetables, we have yet to plant our’s due to the cooler than normal weather.
Melanie: I know you mentioned the name of the movie YSAS is working on, but I’ve forgotten and this is a must see! A present on Tuesday! I love presents!
Audrey: Six to eight weeks? You can do it! The question is can Spence and Admin? Chet, we didn’t mind not having the usual Elvis Gospel or Sundays with Ingrid to hear update on Audrey.
Barb&Maggie: Good luck on the open house. The potential buyers from earlier must have backed out or have not committed.
Everyone here is relieved Rebecca & AJ made it home with the iffy transmission. Thanks for letting us know.
Wait! I can smell bacon! Sunday breakfasts are the best!

I wonder if Audrey was given a morphine epidural. I’m assuming that she was given a titanium implant. It says leash activity is okay. That seems like a very good vet but the website needs to be edited. There is a comma splice of the worst kind. “Debride” is an interesting term.

Rio: Spence has a page on Facebook also. Did you get your bacon?

Since we have already read and loved the Ingrid books, we appreciate the link to the surgery. Mom had forgotten just how long the recover period was suppose to be. I think she just blacked out some of that period in her life.

Very happy to learn this morning that Rebecca and AJ made it all the way home.

What is the Chet Appreciation Society? I truly appreciate Chet. He is my hero.

yark! That is suppose to be recovery and not recover.

We would be fine with the music Rio is suffering through.

We sent another donation to Rebecca last week. Glad they made it home ok.

Bear, the Ca. buyers are still in the picture, but it could be a long process. She has emailed 2 or 3 times since her parents were over. She is planning a trip to Illinois soon, and wants to meet with me and the realtor. Know nothing of their finances, but have a feeling that is what is holding them back. They probably need to sell the house they are in. We can’t really afford to buy another house without selling this one, so that limits our options.

Son said yesterday that he thinks Barb really needs to get out of here. Five acres is alot for someone her age to maintain by themselves.

We were talking last night about Barb’s kids being big animal lovers. We just got a picture Kelly sent on her iphone of Ben holding a turtle in the back seat of their car. Kelly was on thr road and saw it, so stopped to pick it up and put it back in a safer place. Raised those kids well!

Hey everyone – just checking in quickly before Mama gets her hands into her clay.

Thank dog Rebecca and AJ are home. Whew.(we all fell asleep on the couch last night, and when we woke up at 1 am, Mama didn’t wake the ‘puter back up to check – she just went to bed)

We aren’t gonna ask about baby goaties…Barb will tell us when they arrive. Hopefully not during the open house (Good luck with the people – hope someone with big money falls in love!)

We know what Melanie is getting – but we’re not telling! Not even a hint. Nope, nyut nyut. We may bark and yip everytime a breeze blows or a leaf falls off a tree, but we know how to keep quiet when we need to. See….

Melanie, cows, heh. We are nothing compared to the cows in Wisconsin. so no, it is not because of the clouds. It is probably because of North Dakota wanting to get rid of the bad weather and sending it on east.

Our pea plants are growing like crazy…but no peas on them yet. We finally replaced our old Tassimo that broke with a brand new one, made by Bosch. Our coffee and tea this weekend were the best.

Barb, we arrived too late to know much about your house selling. Why are you selling?

Melanie! We can’t wait to know about the Big Present for the Pack !!! We also think its a new pup.

B: we are having rain the entire weekend too.

Siber and Rio: Chet Appreciation Society was Chet’s first web group, before they grew it to his own page. The Chet the Dog page is so much better.

Life is quite interesting at ChettheDog.
The big news here is I got a lovely scrubbing this morning. Staff did it for about 20 minutes. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Then she made me a fur ball toy with catnip. (I have lost it already.) She takes a big pile of my fur and rolls it in some lovely catnip and then she pushes it together until is it small enough to roll in her hands and then she rolls it real tight into a fairly hard ball and then I looooove to chase it around. It smells like me+catnip. YUM!

For some reason the cleaning lady thinks these are tacky and disgusting?????

That about sums it up for a week on the blog. We have tried to expain it to a few close relatives/friends, but finally gave up. They sort of look at you like you aren’t quite all there. “Oh yea, that’s where are you people pretend you are dogs and cats.” Guess some things just are not explainable!

That cat toy sounds like something I would like to eat!

Oley, Moving mainly because we are 100 miles from kids and grands, so don’t get to see them enough. Plus Barb needs some help with all the work and everyone is too far away to help out, or be there for weather emergencies. Hoping to get something a little smaller and closer in, but hopefully, can still keep the chickens. The lady from Ca. would like to keep the goats as horse companions if they buy this place. Rio says that would be ok.

OleyHowlers: Dog truck problems seem to be a way of life for the kennel. Our last dog truck limped into the 2010 ceremonial start; we smoked and sputtered into our slot for the big race on hope and prayer—lliterally. If we only use it to get to and from races maybe we can get another season out of the truck. We still need to figure out how to get the team home at the end of the summer. It will have to work out—there is no option for it not to work out. It isn’t always pretty, but I have no doubt that that things will work out when when AJ is involved.

Thank you to everyone for your concern yesterday—I didn’t mean to cause worry.

T&G: is Basil still guarding his mouse?

Natasha: Nutter Butter, huh? Perhaps I’ll add that to my race watching menu this coming season which currently consists of cheesecake and chocolate eclairs.

Hi Rebecca – Mama put her present on her computer desk. That’s where she does ‘puter work that needs printing out etc. But apparently, she is going to have to be content with the notebook for a while. Basil is sleeping on the computer desk, on top of guess what.
Wonder if we can bribe him off with a Nutter Butter

This morning has spent trying to deal with Dan’s iPad. Jeez, I really didn’t want to learn it because then somehow I have to deal with it all the time. Like I do with the computer, the printer, the scanner . . .

    Skip down if bored!

Anyhoo, he’s been using it to read with and not doing anything else. He wanted to get the Financial Times, but I had to do it because the subscription he remembered had run out a long time ago, and with a really old email address. So he had done something so that all of our email came and dumped in on his iPad. There’s not enough room for that. So I had to clear that, get his email back on it. Except he had forgotten the password. So I made a new gmail account for him, using a password I would remember. Then I fixed the Financial Times for him.

Then I figured what the hey and got three apps for him. All free. One is “Life” all the old pictures from the magazine and new ones. Then “NASA HD” pictures from NASA (duh) and then “Dragon Dictation”.

I got the first two running. The third will take some time. So I have now quit!

Upstairs listening to Dan Reeder, and telling Patsy she’s had enough treats. Yeah, right she isn’t listening to me!

Oh, sheesh! I leave Mom and Dad alone on the computer for a few minutes and they mess up! Dad wanted to order a poster for the departing lacrosse coach — they’re going to have all the boys on the team sign the mat, then frame the whole thing as a way to say goodbye. The only problem was that it didn’t go through the first time, so they ordered it again. Only it did go through the first time — and the second! So Mom tried to call the company to cancel one of the orders, only there’s nobody home! So you can be sure Mom will be calling them bright and early tomorrow morning! As nice as the poster is, we don’t need two of them!!!

Just got back home. Realtor said there were 7 that came to the O.H. which is a great turnout for this market/area/weather. One lady was here for 30 minutes, then called some relatives to come and they stayed another half hour. Good sign. Supper!….She is making her Cheese – Noodle – Broccoli Casserole tonight for supper…sniff! …. It used to be the Broccoli – Noodle – Cheese Casserole at the beginning of the year. Now the cheese is prevalent instead of the broccoli…snort!….Her mother likes to tell her what to do the whole time and finally my friend said, “If you want to make it go ahead, or else I will make a separate version for you with absolutely NO CHEESE in it!!!”….growl! …We both need a big stiff drink!…wuffle!

The little boy, Jimmy Hunt, was also in the remake in 1986 as the police chief.

One of my favorites from Star Trek was “The Trouble with Tribbles.”

Nagging!…After all that nagging about how to make supper, her mother enjoyed the casserole. I NEED OUT RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT! NOWWWW!….yeep!yeep!yeep!

Harry Mud! He was a great character. If I’m not mistaken he was in a couple of episodes.

“Invaders from Mars”. I like old science fiction movies. The special effects in this one weren’t bad. Some of the melted rock bubbles (balloons) moved when people ran by them and they made the fight with the alien’s “Mu-tants” more exciting by using little people to fight them. I guess this was to make the “Mu-tants” seem very large.

    SPOILER ALERT!
The ending was that the whole thing was a dream. And when I looked up on some sites, I found that the British version did not use that ending. It was supposedly real.

Well, I’m off to bed. Reading “Hiroshima” by John Hersey and Sam Sloan.

See some of you bright and early! TTFN

    Hey guys.
Alice does not pee or rub her butt on the floor. A hairball now and then is a small price to pay for such a wonderful cat.
Rio is just grouchy cause his good team is having a couple of off days. He should be a Twins fan. We would not be able to live with him if he was a Twins fan.

The only thing good about the game yesterday was we got some fairly nice Twins/DQ caps. But it was hard work. Today was worse and I am not even going there.

Melanie the pulse therapy is that she gets Clavamox antibiotic one week a month. This keeps her from having infected teeth and gums. Otherwise she gets sick from her bad teeth. So far so good. She has had this therapy for 4 – 5 years now. We can tell she needs her next months doze if we forget. Usually it involves stepping in it. YUCK!

Snack!…. By far the best thing about being over here in the evenings is the ice-cream snack…heh!…My friend doesn’t know it but her mother lets me lick her ice-cream bowl every night after she finishes….sluuurrrrp!… Last night I licked that bowl clean and then walked into the other room where my friend was watching TV….snort!….”What’s that white stuff on your nose??”…gasp!… I had to do some quick nose-licking maneuvers to get out of that one….heh!

No, B. Sadly no bacon this morning. It was only a begg’n strip, a poor imitation of the real thing. sigh.

Alice: That is a very beautiful photo and the quilt is very lovely too. Care to auction it off? On second thought…you may have already claimed it as your own.

Turning in here too. Bye for now – Bear

Hi, guys. A long, tough weekend for Mom and Dad (and us, too, since we really loved Toes, too). Thursday night, when Mom had him outside for special smells time and she found the little kitten, was the last night he felt like going out. Friday morning, he didn’t get out of his bed to eat his breakfast. It was the beginning of the end. He finally crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Luckily, it was peaceful and he went in his sleep. This makes it a tiny bit easier, but his decline was so fast that it is hard to accept that he is gone. He was CCIC (Chief Cat in Charge) and at the top of the pecking order. But at the same time was a big baby for Mom. He would stand up and reach up for her to pick him up.

Mom believes that he wanted that last trip outside so she could find the baby kitten. Think it was T&G that posted the thought of the Door Keeper on the Rainbow Bridge. It made alot of sense to her that it happened for a purpose. She told Dad tonight that she was not going to look for another home for the baby. He totally agreed.

Thanks, y’all for the the good thoughts. It really helps. Barb, Mom will send in her whole 2 recipes tomorrow. Melanie, she will be sending you the pictures of the jacket for the auction to see if you can improve on them. She has front and back pictures both on a hanger and on a person.
