Marvin Winkleman (From To Fetch A Thief)
Our client was a sad-eyed little guy named Marvin Winkleman who owned a ticket agency downtown. Don’t ask me what a ticket agency is. What’s important is that he thought his wife was cheating, and coughed up the $500 retainer. Don’t ask me about the cheating part, either. It’s a human thing; we operate differently in my world. “Just find out, one way or another,” Winkleman said. “I’ve got to know.”
Later, driving away, Bernie said, “Why do they always have to know? What’s wrong with ignorance is bliss?” I had no idea.

Excellent! Now we just have to wait…impatiently.
Chet, I'd love to have your comments on Virginia Woolf and Flush.
4:22 am on April 22nd, 2010
Thanks for the update, Spence! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's post.
I'm confused though. Isn't her name Virginia Wolfie? Has a nice ring to it!
Melanie: Did Zoe get her foot xrayed yet? With everything that has been going on with your family, I'm glad that the Newfies made it back from their trip in one piece!

Rio – You said you don't have much time to read. I'll bet when a certain autographed and paw-printed book arrives that you'll devour it (oops, not literally, no teethmarks please).
My Mom and Aunt MollysMom have Kindles so the book will be there that very morning. BStover will have hers then too.
5:14 am on April 22nd, 2010
Hey! Mom went to Amazon to pre-order and TFAT isn't available for her Kindle.
5:44 am on April 22nd, 2010
Gosh!… The next book is coming out a month earlier than we first thought!… snort!… What great news!… grunt!… I wonder what Chet has to say about Virginia Woolf? … cough!… And finally an excerpt from Bullet Point!… yippee!
Bernie!…. I have a feeling this little bit of TFAT was selected just for Bernie’s comment, “Why do they always have to know”…. wheeze!… I believe this was aimed at us… heh!
6:18 am on April 22nd, 2010
Yes!… When a certain autographed book arrives … snort!… I will treasure it!…. grunt!… I will read it very, very slowly…. wheeze!… I will handle it with gloved paws… cough!…while I lift a certain someone’s fingerprints off of it!… grunt!… I will only show it to a very select few friends!…wheeze!… Of course they will not be allowed to touch it, only gaze upon it….snort!
6:53 am on April 22nd, 2010
We are excited about TFAT, Mom and me. Will be pre-ordering from Amazon, unless there is some way we can purchase a signed, paw printed copy from Spence. Does anyone know if there are more Echo Falls books in the works, with Ingrid as main character? We are reading Into the Dark (3rd in the series) and are hoping there will be more to come.

Hey MagPie!… Caught any fat squawking chickens lately?… heh!
7:30 am on April 22nd, 2010
Rio, I should be so lucky! I got my head in the chicken coop door this morning, but then Mom slamed it in my face. How rude! She says if I stress them out, then they won't lay eggs. Hey, a girl just wants to have a little fun now and then. And how stressful could it be, if I just hold them down ever so gently? Here's a pic of one of her little darlings.

Shudder!…. oh I hate chickens!… snort!… Nasty messy, smelly creatures…. grunt!… I do love eggs though. How can something so good come from something so disgusting?…. wheeze!
8:02 am on April 22nd, 2010
Back at you, Rio, on all that! Did you know chickens are related to T Rex and are carnivorous little creatures? Pity the poor mouse that dares enter their domain….but more protein makes better eggs. Yuck!
8:07 am on April 22nd, 2010
No!… I did not know that chickens ate meat/mice!… gag! … I have seen them eat their own poop which really makes me green…. urp!
8:20 am on April 22nd, 2010
Hmmm…. I wonder if SiberH ever got his sign-on to mlb.com…. snort!… There is an afternoon game today starting at 2:35…. grunt!… The pitching matchup is interesting, our guy is coming off a ‘No Hitter’ and their guy has a ‘No Runs’ streak going…. Gruff!… Things could get exciting!

What a birthday present for our Mom! Her bday is the 29th of September. All that sounds very interesting for tomorrow but we want more from Chet on CB, son, Albie & Foster !!
Chet, Mom just got back from a pet food run and there was a very handsome, very BIG shepherd type getting groomed and she thought that he could play you in the movie. Wonder how fast he can run and how high he can jump.

Joke!…snort!
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her
husband stalking around with a fly swatter.
'What are you doing?' She asked.
'Hunting Flies.' He responded.
'Oh! Killing any?’ She asked.
'Yep, 3 males, 2 females,' he replied.
Intrigued, she asked, 'How can you tell them apart?'
He responded, '3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone.'

Rio!
Very funny!
Alice Johnson, female feline.
10:47 am on April 22nd, 2010
Alice Johnson, feline femme fatale…. Snort!
11:24 am on April 22nd, 2010
Rio…sniffle…that was funny! It's true, though. Megan is on the phone A LOT!
MollyPop! I need some advice! I just got attacked again, but by a smaller dog, but still bigger than me. He was all like, "Play with me! Play with me!" And I was like, "Get away from me, you freakface!" Then he was jumping all over me, and I was yelping. Megan did nothing but tell me that everything was okay. She did nothing!
11:36 am on April 22nd, 2010
Holy Crap!… We are under a tornado watch right now…. Yikes!… where to hide?… where to hide?… We had a REALLY big one go through here a couple of years ago…. Snort!…. That was very scary!….yelp!
11:53 am on April 22nd, 2010
Lexi, I don'blame you for being a little fearful. But you may want to be careful about calling a strange pooch a "freakface." It may come back to bite you on the butt! (Litter-ly) (Pun intended, ha ha!)

Yippie!!! Sept. 28!!! You have made us all very happy Mr. Admin. I think a display rack of the paperbacks is a great idea. More people need to be able to find Chet's books. I have this theory that there are a lot of people, like my mom, that don't read that many mysteries, but would still absolutely love Chet's books.
We are doing Virginia Woolf tomorow? hmmm, I think I'd rather chase a rabbit than read her, but I will keep a open mind.
12:02 pm on April 22nd, 2010
That photo up above…I see dinner.
12:06 pm on April 22nd, 2010
In my other message I was actually more interested in Chet's comments regarding Flush. The book is Woolf's biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's cocker spaniel, Flush, which is, in part, narrated from the interior monologue of Flush. Thanks for referring to it Spence.
However, what I'd really like is to get back to the case.

Rio, I checked the MLB. website. The regular priced one you can sign up for…Colorado and Phoenix are blacked out for me. I am going to check the more expensive one to see if I can get the Rockies games by going that route. The cost isn't that much more. I just haven't had time to examine it further. As you know, we went on this very long trip.
The game this afternoon is, indeed, going to be an interesting one. Go Rockies!!
12:40 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Rio!!! I just checked MLB's premium subscription. The Rockies games are still subject to blackout restrictions for me. How are you doing this?
12:47 pm on April 22nd, 2010
My nephew lives in Denver and he's under a tornado watch also. There is no basement in his apartment building. Where do you take cover under those circumstances?
12:48 pm on April 22nd, 2010
SiberH!… are you choosing the “Audio”?…. snort!… I can’t imagine they would blackout the radio broadcast….grunt!
12:49 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Whimper, sob, sniffle. Series 3-1 Bruins. Sabres won the first game, then 2 games lost by a goal in the 3rd period. Last night game went into second overtime and we lost.
1:03 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Hey All, sounds like everyone is busy with tornado watches and mauling dogs and MLB (Meaty Leg Bones?) . . .
Love that T-FAT has a real date!
Took Dan to doc's, ended up in the emergency room, but turns out he's okay but has swollen feet and they are taking care of that.
Zoë gets looked at tomorrow.
I'm zonked so just going to read comments and jokes.
1:23 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Oh, audio..duh…I didn't see the choice for audio. I will look again. I am so far away that I think it is not nice of them to blackout the video.
Molly, I am sorry that your team lost.
Stover, I think a place like a hallway or the bathroom. There is no place for miles around here to take cover either. We are not suppose to have tornados in Denver or Albuq. At least, we don't have the really strong ones that they have in places like Kansas.
1:41 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Thanks SH.
2:01 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Rio, Ok You can go "whew" now. I have it figured out… How the audio is part of the whole package. Cool, I can listen to the Rockies games and watch some of the other games as long as the teams I'm watching are not the Rockies or Phoenix. Sigh, there was an awful lot of fine print to read.
Mom? Where is your credit card once again?
2:32 pm on April 22nd, 2010
I don't believe this, Rio, but I just found where you can get the audio feed only. I think that it is a complicated website, but it could just be me. It is only 20 bucks for the whole season. Mom will definately go for that price.
3:05 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Well! … good. Glad you figured it all out… snort!… There is an application on the website (link), I forget the name, but you can get a simulated ball field with a batter and it shows where the pitches are landing… wheeze!… My computer is so slow that the app is always way behind the real action… grunt!… So when I have to, I just listen… cough!
3:10 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Hmmm… I personally have seen a lot of tornado’s dropping down from the sky!… snort!… Been on many alerts, watches and right nearly in the freakin’ middle of one of the biggest ones that dropped down in 2008… wheeze!….Our car still has the dents to prove it…crap!
3:38 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Yeah, Rio, I'll take back what I said about Denver not having tornados. We have mountains to the east of us that protect us from tornados. I don't know how that works, but it works.
4:40 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Take cover Rio!!!
4:41 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Hailing!….like a bastard!… yikes!…our car is out in the open…crap!
4:44 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Lexi, You need to work on developing your canine social skills. Molly tried to help you with that on our trip. Playing nicely with other dogs is good for your mental health. I’m a big guy that will play wih little dogs, except sometimes mom has to tell me to watch where I put my feet.
4:49 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Let’s see….the book comes out in approximately 5 months. Five months of happy skipping should bring Rio down to his goal weight!
4:49 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Oh Rio! Hailing is not good for cars. We had our car hailed on a few years ago! The male staff had just taken off the comprehensive insurance. (Haven’t a clue what that means) Anyway, they were bummed.
The car has worked fine ever since so I don’t know why they were worried.
BTW I hope you unplugged the computer during the storm! Now if you ‘fried’ the computer that would be horrible.

Hey!… It’s Thursday and Fringe is on….snort!… I know what Stover is doing right now!..heh!…This time I will try to pay way more attention to the show… grunt!… Just hope no one calls or comes by right in the middle of it!…derrrr!
4:29 pm on April 22nd, 2010
And!… it's still raining outside… snort!… quite a storm to kick off all the other Spring storms… yeeep!
4:39 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Rio! Be careful! First storm I've been through, I got stuck under a couch for an hour! Don't want that to happen to you! You're too nice!
4:48 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Why!…. thank you Lil Lexi…. Snort!… You are up late on a school night…. heh! … What’s going on anyway? … cough!… Got any good mysteries going on in your neck of the woods?… grunt!… Anything suspicious or alarming activity going on in your world?…. snort!… Do you watch baseball Lil Lexi???… (one never knows)… heh!
And!… Lil Lexi, I am always careful… sniff!… do not worry about me.
5:30 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Such a busy day! My girl and her brother had a fight involving egg salad and smearing it on each other's car windows. Excitement!
5:35 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Wow!.. egg salad fights… snort!.. I hate egg salad and I can think of no better way to spread it!..heh!
6:09 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Fringe!…. I know Stover is snug in her bed right now!…heh!.. As I should be too! But, we loved the Fringe ep tonight and the next episode looks like an old time dark noir type theme going on!… snort! Love That type!…. cough… well gee, I’m hooked on Fringe again!… Sleep tight Stover!… Maybe tomorrow we will get to read some comment about Virginia or Flush!… heh! … Paws and fingers crossed!
6:24 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Well!… We survived another Spring Storm…heh!…By the grace of God (only)…and now tomorrow is Friday!… snort!… I have been invited to another TGIF party… grunt!…That will not help my diet at all!… sniff!.. But if I just drink water and play pool…heh!….Maybe I can get away with it.??? … hmmm. Diets suck….
Any good suggestions on how to stay away from Hot Wings and Beer??? Sigh!….. it is baseball season for gosh sakes… sob!
6:40 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Ahhh!… as usual, I find myself being very self important again. Not cool.
A small prayer; Please Lord of all Creation, watch over all of us here on this forum. We come together because of one interest and then find we are all interested in each other and are concerned about each other’s well being. Please, Lord, watch over all of these creatures (human, dogs and kats) that you have created. You know their feelings for each other, and you know what each one is going through. Amen!
6:59 pm on April 22nd, 2010
Amen.
