Making Friends

It turned out Bernie could run a bulldozer, had learned in the Army. Bernie doesn’t talk much about what happened in the Army – which is where he got the wound in his leg that makes him limp sometimes – although I think there’s something about his Army days in Thereby Hangs A Tail.

Bernie ran the dozer. Addie and I stood around. She looked at me. “I’ve always been scared of dogs,” she said. Whoa. I didn’t like hearing that; from a perp, sure, but Addie was no perp. I wagged my tail and tried not to look scary. “Your teeth are so big!” What was this? My mouth was wide open for some reason? I closed it. Addie reached out, slow and careful, and gave me  a pat. I pushed against her in a friendly way. She lost her balance and almost tipped over. Humans and their two-leg problem – it always amazes me that –

“Hey!” said Bernie. “What’s that?”

Chet, you're a good dog. Wojo has that same problem– he's only 11 months old, and he still remembers being little, you know? Sitting in laps, being carried… Except now he's the size of an extra-large lab, bordering on Newfie territory, so when he leans or tries to snuggle, he kinda knocks people over, a little bit. Two-leggers really need to work on our balance.

Hey Chet – What happened to "two is plenty"?

Two legs can work quite efficiently, sometimes.

Glad to hear you are a leaner Chet. The best of us are. If you sidle up slowly and gradually lean in, that gives the 2 leggers a chance to get their feet planted. Then you can lean on them pretty hard and take a little load off if your tired. Beside it just feel good to lean up against somebody. Especially my own somebodies, if you know what I mean.

Of course, in addition to two legs, humans also have two arms which are very useful.

    Has the skull been found?

All this makes me yearn terribly for a job where I can take my own two leaners to work with me. Whatdya think? Dog leanin' as a cure for the stressful work place??

The following time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I know it was my option to learn, but I truly thought youd have something fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you would fix for those who werent too busy in search of attention.
