Make New Friends In The Exciting World of Tin Futures
Lately we’ve been listening to Charlie Poole a lot in the Porsche. “Absolute country music pioneer,” Bernie says. “And one of the great boozers in music, right up there with Hank Williams.”
I’m a music-lover myself – Roy Eldridge and his trumpet, Elmore James and his slide guitar – but Charlie Poole turns out to be a banjo player and there’s something about the banjo that hurts my ears. Bernie loves the banjo, has talked about getting one more than once. When it comes to ears there are big differences between me and Bernie.
“I think there’s a Charlie Poole festival somewhere in North Carolina every spring. Would that be fun or what?”
I wasn’t sure. First I’d heard of North Carolina, and what if there were lots of dudes playing banjos?
Meanwhile Bernie cranks up the volume. “This is my favorite cut.”

Okay, from the title and from the Charlie Poole song, I wondered if there may have been tin mines in Tennessee. After much googling, I have given up.
Then I googled Charlie Poole and Tin and found that his type of music was a blend of "mountain ballads and fiddle tunes with classical banjo picking, minstrel songs, Tin Pan Alley and ragtime?
Does this fit in with the tin futures? Hmmm. Certainly not with tin mines. But if Chet hears Bernie talking about Tin futures in Tennessee, he should start biting pants legs.

Melanie: Those tin links are getting pretty obscure. Thunderstorms in the Midwest so Alice is probably indoors sharpening her nails. I finally made it to the book store and bought Reality Check.

We've had 3 inches of rain since yesterday, with more to come. Everything is water logged. At least we have more tin futures to look forward to. Dawson, Mom read Reality Check in 2 days – wonder if that will be part of a new series like Echo Falls. Mom says there are only 2 negatives about PA/Spence books – he can't write them as fast as she can read them, and she doesn't get anything else done, because she can't put the books down.

Whew, what a long day.
Riö, slight change on the surprise. Bess decided to have a beauty day and have me take a picture of her standing like she use to in the show ring (Bess is a Champion) just for you. But she had so much hair that she was really tired when she got home and I snapped this instead. Will get the picture she wanted to send to you in the next couple of days.

Poor Chet,
There would certainly be "lots of dudes playing banjos" at a Charlie Poole festival. I am surprised that the banjo hurts your ears. I would think it would be the fiddle.
One of my staff (the one who never posts) listens to Bluegrass music ALL the time. He just loves it. Whenever we drive somewhere in the car I have to listen to it too. Some of it I like but some of it can be very annoying. Charlie Poole is one that I can usually do without. Now Allison Krause is one I really like. It takes all kinds!
The weird thing is he dislikes 'country' music. The only difference is the drums as far as I can tell. I sort of like the drums.

Sam, youngest struggling actor son also liked to travel in suitcases. He is slightly weird. He was little when he was little and would have us zip him up in suitcases and carry him around. The giggling suitcase did surprise people. Of course, it does say a lot about me being weird since I would zip him up in the suitcase. Oh, well.
