Make New Friends In The Exciting World of Tin Futures

Lately we’ve been listening to Charlie Poole a lot in the Porsche. “Absolute country music pioneer,” Bernie says. “And one of the great boozers in music, right up there with Hank Williams.”

I’m a music-lover myself – Roy Eldridge and his trumpet, Elmore James and his slide guitar – but Charlie Poole turns out to be a banjo player and there’s something about the banjo that hurts my ears. Bernie loves the banjo, has talked about getting one more than once. When it comes to ears there are big differences between me and Bernie.

“I think there’s a Charlie Poole festival somewhere in North Carolina every spring. Would that be fun or what?”

I wasn’t sure. First I’d heard of North Carolina, and what if there were lots of dudes playing banjos?

Meanwhile Bernie cranks up the volume. “This is my favorite cut.”

Woolfie will love this one. And we still have tin in the title…I know you're having fun Spence…but nothing on the interview with Foster. (What word would Rio use here?)

Rio: I have the empty square also. The business card is usually there.

Wolfie: Sorry that I put two o's in your name earlier.

I don't have a big empty square – mine is a youtube video of Bernie's favorite cut. Maybe it was held up by admin – ha ha laff.

Wolfers, I will be your valentine. (You might be starting to like Maltese.)

Banjos!… I wonder if playing the banjo is a lot like playing the ukulele?… snort!… Banjos always remind me of the strange kid in that movie ‘Deliverance’…..grunt!

Okay, from the title and from the Charlie Poole song, I wondered if there may have been tin mines in Tennessee. After much googling, I have given up.

Then I googled Charlie Poole and Tin and found that his type of music was a blend of "mountain ballads and fiddle tunes with classical banjo picking, minstrel songs, Tin Pan Alley and ragtime?

Does this fit in with the tin futures? Hmmm. Certainly not with tin mines. But if Chet hears Bernie talking about Tin futures in Tennessee, he should start biting pants legs.

I too have a big empty square under Chet's blog.

Melanie: Those tin links are getting pretty obscure. Thunderstorms in the Midwest so Alice is probably indoors sharpening her nails. I finally made it to the book store and bought Reality Check.

Sam: Nice picture. How could anyone resist loving you. I'm packing my suitcase today and it is way heavier than yours. It will weigh exactly 50 pounds when I am done.

Words cannot express how much more we love country music than the study of economics–old country music–real country music.

    Jimmy Rodgers is another pioneer.

That is a cute picture, Sam. You are sure to be Hollywood's choice for a leading role in the movie. I don't think they have any speaking parts for Siberians. I could be a stand in. I wonder if Gene Simmons needs a stand in.

We are off to the book store now. Mom has coupons. I think after Chet's blog today, we will listen to Hank Williams in the truck.

Sam! You look cute getting ready for your mission, A.K.A. the sleepover! I wish I had a suitcase, too.

Banjos are cool instruments. I linked to the sites. No wonder Bernie likes them so much! Bernie has great taste!

And Rio! Did you have coffee or something again? You seem so…hyper and energetic. Hey, what about batteries and basketball? Oh, Bacon. Bacon! Nice and chewy and juicy! Almost as good as bling! Megan wears a lot of that shiny stuff on her fingers and wrists…

We've had 3 inches of rain since yesterday, with more to come. Everything is water logged. At least we have more tin futures to look forward to. Dawson, Mom read Reality Check in 2 days – wonder if that will be part of a new series like Echo Falls. Mom says there are only 2 negatives about PA/Spence books – he can't write them as fast as she can read them, and she doesn't get anything else done, because she can't put the books down.

Riö, slight change on the surprise. Bess decided to have a beauty day and have me take a picture of her standing like she use to in the show ring (Bess is a Champion) just for you. But she had so much hair that she was really tired when she got home and I snapped this instead. Will get the picture she wanted to send to you in the next couple of days.

    Poor Chet,

There would certainly be "lots of dudes playing banjos" at a Charlie Poole festival. I am surprised that the banjo hurts your ears. I would think it would be the fiddle.

One of my staff (the one who never posts) listens to Bluegrass music ALL the time. He just loves it. Whenever we drive somewhere in the car I have to listen to it too. Some of it I like but some of it can be very annoying. Charlie Poole is one that I can usually do without. Now Allison Krause is one I really like. It takes all kinds!

The weird thing is he dislikes 'country' music. The only difference is the drums as far as I can tell. I sort of like the drums.

~Rio, can't wait to find out what your surprise is…

    ~Sam, I don't like to travel but I like a good suitcase…

Alice Johnson (whose claws are always sharp)

Sam, youngest struggling actor son also liked to travel in suitcases. He is slightly weird. He was little when he was little and would have us zip him up in suitcases and carry him around. The giggling suitcase did surprise people. Of course, it does say a lot about me being weird since I would zip him up in the suitcase. Oh, well.

All right, everyone, I just had an idea. (Spence/Bernie/PA – this doesn't really pertain to you, sorry.) (I'm going to transform the font into top secret decoy mode now.)

Ready? I, WW of the WWW, have an idea. It just occured to me that we have overlooked an extremely valuable asset: Agent Aubrey Quinn Abrahams.

If we can get her to join our blog, then she can (dare I say it?

SPY for us. I have a feeling that Spence and PA both talk out loud while they are writing. Aubrey can snooze in the study, take notes, and then when everyone has gone to bed, she can report back to us. We will know the futures of tin futures, the whereabouts of Tiffany 3, and the answer to the Mystery of the Chipped Tooth.

Rio – I know you like Bess, but do you think you can woo Miss Audrey over to our side? Or maybe it should be Wookie. He looks awfully suave in his tuxedo.

And maybe we can supply Audrey with a camera so that she can take a photo of the TFAT cover. I betcha we could find a secret camera shaped like a dog collar!

Okay, I had better get into Times Courier mode so I don't look suspicious.

Hey everybody, ow are you doing? Made any new friends lately, wink, wink?

Wolfie!… I wouldn’t mention a lot about Audrey while Wookie is listening… snort!… Just a warning pal…sniff!.. That’s his gal….heh!… And there is No Way Audrey is getting messed up in any kind of Spy business…no way at all….sniff!… She’s a real dame and not into the rough spy stuff… snort!..
