On this Day of Remembrance, please take a quiet moment to reflect on those whose lives were lost 12 years ago today.
9:58 am on September 11th, 2013
Hi, Wose! I’m taking notes and Trying to Remember more than 2 Answers!
10:02 am on September 11th, 2013
On this day, the 11th of September, we pause to remember.

10:07 am on September 11th, 2013
Good morning all.
10:21 am on September 11th, 2013
Bear, That’s good. Take plenty of notes. Even with a lot of note taking, I would be lucky to remember 2 answers.
You didn’t hear this from me…..cheat sheets work vry well. 🙂
10:22 am on September 11th, 2013
Here comes the sun!
10:26 am on September 11th, 2013
My dearest Masquers, Thank you for remembering. This is a sad day. I worked in NYC when the attacks happened…but not downtown. It was a beautiful day. People were just walking in the middle of streets, like zombies, trying to get home, trying to make sense of everything. I remember taking the train home. It tooks hours, but as the train crossed the bridge from Manhattan into the Bronx, you could see the horrible black smoke……
10:36 am on September 11th, 2013
Tour!…The Tour has officially started…snort!…Without me!me!me!…sob!sob!sob!
10:44 am on September 11th, 2013
Sorry, Chet! We were so excited to see a Great Review from one of the nation within that I failed to see link over on the right.
Wose: Thank you for that Advice. It will come in handy.
Poor Rio. And Spence is stopping at The Tattered Cover especially for you, you, you.
10:50 am on September 11th, 2013
RIO! I left a secret message for you this morning on last night’s blog.
10:57 am on September 11th, 2013
Morning, everyone. The HOH is saddened today, not only for the 12th anniversary of a shocking historical moment, but beacuse Jocko, our 24 year old African Grey crossed the bridge just before we were to take him to the v e t. He wasn’t better this a.m. but let the peeps greet him, then crossed while they were getting his travel cage. No idea why or what. Don’t care. We will do our best to keep the peeps occupied today.
Even though it is Wed. , let’s have a Memorial (wednes) Day.
11:02 am on September 11th, 2013
Good morning from this little bit of heaven.
WELCOME to Buddy and Leno. You will probably feel a little lost in the chatter for a while. We here at Chet’s have our own language and system of government. The Benevolent B.Stover is our Empress and Queen, ruler of all things grammatical. We mention her first because like her and Princess Sam, we are Royals too ( being related to the queen of England’s Corgis, you see)
Rio is our resident grumpy old Pug, and he and Siber are our baseball experts who fill us in in GREAT detail ( yawn) about every single /($6;($&?,! Rockies baseball game.
We are currently on vacation at the BEACH eating LOBSTERS and have left our housemates, the Wrotten Kats, Basil and Sage at home with our Gramp. We spend most of our free time trying to figure ways to coerce the Kats into shipping boxes, and getting them taped up before Mama notices. No luck so far, but we never say die.
Glad you have joined us on the blog – this is a great place to hang out.
11:03 am on September 11th, 2013
HOH, Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
11:06 am on September 11th, 2013
HOH: We are so sorry to hear your sad news. African Grays usually have a very long life span. Jocko left this world long before his time.
11:11 am on September 11th, 2013
Sharon – so sorry for your loss. Glad you got to say hello to him this morning.
My own mother left this world just days before 9/11. We always figured it was because they were going to need someone with a clipboard and organizational skills on the other side. She had always made a point of going where she could do the most good.
11:23 am on September 11th, 2013
Tupper’s Mama: Ain’t life funny like that? Without a capacity for humor, we would be lost.
Rose and Masquers: TY. Mom thinks the “Jerk bird” as she called him had issues we never considered. Some of his feathers grew in square, not round, so they hurt him. The funniest thing he (she) ever did was to get under the couch and rip through the carpet, padding and to the subfloor to build a nest for mom. Loved it when her hand was in there with him (her). When they sold that house, they had some serious repairs!
11:23 am on September 11th, 2013
Royal Mum: Interestingly your Last Post was at 11:11.
11:32 am on September 11th, 2013
HOH, so sorry to hear about Jocko. Purrs and hugs for you guys.
11:33 am on September 11th, 2013
Gilly’s favorite “scenic lookout” while we are here.

Gilly keeping an eye out for Lobstas.
11:40 am on September 11th, 2013
HOH, We are very sorry for your loss. We will be thinking of JOcko today.
12:05 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH We are sorry for your loss of Jocko.
12:11 pm on September 11th, 2013
Rio, sob, sob, sob.
I know this will be of no comfort, but I will pretend you are with me when I go to see Spence on Sat. Well, you really will be with me in spirit.
We got one inch of rain in the past 24 hours. The weathermen say we could set a rain record this week. I gotta get out of here. I could drown.
12:20 pm on September 11th, 2013
Someone tell OFA they grow BIG maters in Lexington. Perhaps he should wear a pith helmut..or have extra stress balls.
12:37 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH – what’s with the pithy comments?
(teehee)
12:38 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH we are so sorry to learn of Jocko’s passing. I have read about African Greys and their amazing linguistic talents.
Gilly dear I am glad you are keeping a sharp lookout at the beach. Some of those lobsters get huge!
Buddy and Leno I should tell you about Staff and her two charges, Alice M. Johnson and Abbie the Kitty. Alice is a natural (bleached) blonde 8 pound Kat who came in out of the woods. She has long fur and a fluffy tail she is very vain about. She is 12 this year.
Abbie the Kitty is a little larger. About 14 pounds. She is a tortise shell kat with a lovely white tummy and 4 white feet. Her main colors are dark brown, black and orange. She is a city kat having been born in Clifford North Dakota (pop. 42)
I am Staff to the kats. I and my husband, Mr.Staff, live on a farm and tend to our garden and the birds and bees that live in it. Alice and Abbie live INDOORS.
Two of my sisters are on the blog also. Dawson is a regular and A Catty Librarian is a lurker and sometime poster with her kat Elliot. Elliot is a well known massage kat. We are all jealous.
12:41 pm on September 11th, 2013
Is anyone going to see Spence tonight? My books are being signed then.
Speaking of tomatoes, my Amish Paste tomato plant is starting to fall over from too many tomatoes. I have never had such large paste tomatoes before. These are twice as large as the Roma ones I usually plant. Has anyone else planted them and is this normal for that variety?
12:56 pm on September 11th, 2013
Stagg: MOST greys have amazing linguistic abilities. Jocko, on the other wing, was stubborn and loved to whistle, whistle, whistle. He would ring his bell on command and grab the red, blue or green ring on a toy. Quite a character. Mom will miss him…oh, and he got along with Sonja the wolf dog. Hope they have a good reunion over the bridge.
1:13 pm on September 11th, 2013
Staff: Don’t forget about Alice’s late night blogging.

1:15 pm on September 11th, 2013
Don’t forget to tell Buddy&Leno.
1:17 pm on September 11th, 2013
Siber: We can’t remember when you’ve talked about having so much rain.
Dawson: Check your SDD (again).
1:24 pm on September 11th, 2013
Masquers, This hasn’t happened in my lifetime. Mom does remember years with more rain. I don’t like it.
1:25 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH, I am sorry for your loss.
1:33 pm on September 11th, 2013
Do youse remember when the great Plunderer alphabetized document was put together for us? We think it should be updated with the new Plunderers and then (somehow) made available to new plunderers.
1:55 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH earlier tried to thank Joe but think mom in her blurry vision forgot to sbumit.

At the top:grey with red tail 🙁
1:59 pm on September 11th, 2013
Howlers: Many post for a while then drop off the blog. Not to say that any of these latest FOC would ever do a thing like that. We hope the others are at least lurkers.
2:17 pm on September 11th, 2013
Mom would love a Plunderer’s document!
2:18 pm on September 11th, 2013
Masquers, Many do not though. Did Wose ever get to see that doc? HOH?
2:19 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH, Check your SDD.
2:29 pm on September 11th, 2013
I recall talking about a Plunderer’s dictionary but don’t recall it being done, published or emailed. At least it should be located on the Dishlicker’s site if it hasn’t been already. I know that I have a ‘history of the Plunderers’ that Rio/Melanie(?) wrote that I have stored in my word documents.
Rainy here today. Stayed up to 2 am reading a book by David Sedaris and am paying the price. His books are funny but also for me depressing in the end.
2:34 pm on September 11th, 2013
OH: Checked & responed.
2:35 pm on September 11th, 2013
Rose has been around for a long while. I do hope she saw it. Let’s ask her.
She is in the list of contributors to the Dishlicker’s Cookbook, which was published some time back.
(wonder what ever happened to mollie a black poodle?)
CHobbit: David Sedaris is very funny.
2:40 pm on September 11th, 2013
Look at that big smile on the face of the Lady at the Launch last night. Oh how I wish that were me.
I was having fun of my own though, eating a huckleberry milk shake with A Catty Librarian’s homemade fudgey sauce. Delish!
I will never forget that day 12 years ago.
HOH: So sorry about Jocko – he looks very dignified in that picture, red tail and all.
SiberH: You might want to suspend all digging projects until the rain stops.
I hope it is cool in Seattle when I arrive on Friday. My suitcases are already crammed full so I have to wear a few coats. Heh, heh. I wanted to wear a few straw hats home too but that looked really silly. BearSpiritDog’s mum is going to pick me up at the airport and I don’t want to embarrass her. ;-D
Gilly Flower: Looks like you have the best seat in the house.
Beautiful day here so I’m off for a bike ride.
2:40 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH: Jocko looks quite handsome. How many pets total do you have?
2:47 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH, Two more SDDs winging your way.
Masquers, You are right. Rose is in there, so surely she has seen it. You all put it together for us to help answer all our questions soon after we started out on this here blog.
2:48 pm on September 11th, 2013
Sorry, Dawson, we’re having a heat wave.
2:50 pm on September 11th, 2013
O’Howlers: I Remember that day! We, Wose and Youse were taking notes on Plunderer History.
2:59 pm on September 11th, 2013
I don’t remember any of this, but I believe you guys that it happened.
3:01 pm on September 11th, 2013
Bear, Do you remember them talking about getting together at a party and thinking, how does everyone on this here blog know each other? And do they all live close to each other?
LOL!
3:05 pm on September 11th, 2013
Masquers, I was in the list of contributors to the Dishlicker’s Cookbook? Surely, you jest. The only thing I may have contributed is a list of stores to buy Swedish Fish. :^)
3:15 pm on September 11th, 2013
I just checked, and I know my address is posted there. I didn’t have anything come up when I went to Plunderers’ bio, but I’m pretty sure I posted something there as well.
I also saw the pictures that make up the Rose Quilt. How did you guys not spill the beans on this here blog????
3:37 pm on September 11th, 2013
Wose, to answer your question…SDDs
3:42 pm on September 11th, 2013
Siber-H, Well at least I know I can trust you guys with my deepest, darkest secrets. :^)
3:48 pm on September 11th, 2013
Good Afternoon All,
HOH, I’m sorry about Jocko. Today seems to be a day of Mourning . . sigh.
Newbies! I’m Melanie . . snicker . . I live with Zoë, my mother (81 and you can’t tell), and five excellent Newfoundland dogs. If you ever come to one of our virtual parties, you will meet Mattie, Mac, Ros, Franklin and Grace.
If I talk of The Raven . . that is my father who passed away just shy of a year ago.
To cheer myself up? I have made a video called “Grace Goes for the Gold!”
Zoë needs to okay it before I put it up on YouTube.
I had fun.
3:50 pm on September 11th, 2013
Also, I sort of remember a Plunderer’s bio ? Brain is not in gear at this time.
Why did youse guys in the middle of the country send us this heat wave?
Dawson! Howdy! Winning any poker games?
3:54 pm on September 11th, 2013
I may get off this pedestal.
Newbies . .
OTAS: My Oldest Tattoo Artist Son
GLAD: his now wife, Gorgeous Lovely Artist Daughter (I think . . the Royals came up with that one.)
YSAS: Youngest Successful Actor Son
LLL: His significant other Lovely Leading Lawyer
Oh, and sometimes we call T&G’s Mom, Golinka and her husband, The Storyteller.
4:10 pm on September 11th, 2013
CHobbit: Family of 4 canine, now 3 parrot, sushi varies. Who counts Daddy Dawgs kiddos.Quite enough.
4:15 pm on September 11th, 2013
OH: TY for the info.
4:25 pm on September 11th, 2013
Just back from the beach. The ice cold water was wonderful. The Storyteller did great, wading through the soft sand to get to the firmer beach, and then stood in the water for a while. He claims he’s a “stumblebum”, but we are really proud of him.
Strangers who saw his back were very courteous and respectful of his need to go slowly. I overheard one guy say “man, he LIVED through that and is out on the beach?!?”
Guess he deserves another lobster or two, huh?
4:32 pm on September 11th, 2013
HoH — so sorry about Jocko, but it sounds as though he had a glorious 24 years.
For the Newbies — I post as Wookie’s dad and my wife posts as Wookie’s mom (or sometimes as Debbie LM). But the real start of the family was Wookie of Chevy Chase, one of the original posters on the blog going back to 2009, who was also known as Agent 00Wookie, a handsome and sartorial Golden Retriever/Chow mix, for the missions he undertook under the steady command of Commander Rio and for his collection of bow ties. Agent 00Wookie was also a quilt tester extraordinaire (my wife is a quilter) and preferred his martinis shaken, not stirred (so as not to bruise the gin). Wookie was diagnosed with lymphoma in February 2011, but went through a full round of chemo and was in remission for 21 months. Unfortunately, with his immune system compromised, he also contracted leptospirosis, which led to kidney failure and he crossed the bridge on December 26, 2012. The void in our life left by Wookie’s departure was filled, however, seven weeks ago when an eight-week old golden retriever puppy of the name Kisamore Teddy Roosevelt Ruff Rider (known as Teddy Ruff Rider or Teddy RR) joined our family. He was welcomed warmly on the blog and even got his first taste of blog action as an agent in training working at Auction Central during the most recent Snowhook auction.
4:40 pm on September 11th, 2013
Good afternoon all. Busy all day, so just stopping by to say hey.
I think everyone remembers where they were the morning of Sept.11, 2001, just like when Kennedy was shot (for those old enough).
HOH, so sorry to hear about Jocko.
For the Newbies: Barb is retired and lives with Maggie her English Shepherd in northern Il. Barb is a financial person, but is not a poet. She loves to garden and cook. Maggie is beautiful and loves to catch rats.

We watched it on fb. Loved it. We here love Grace…when we watch her in action, we can’t help but smile.
5:08 pm on September 11th, 2013
O’Howlers: It seems so long ago now! But at the time we were completely confused by the Blog Terminology. As Wookie explained, the Plunderers definitely have our own special Lexicon.
5:12 pm on September 11th, 2013
Grace panning for Gold!
5:27 pm on September 11th, 2013
Masquers the WeatherKat: Thanks for the forecast. Hot! Hopefully at 7:30 in the morning it won’t be too hot. Oh boy! My passport will get a stamp.
Melanie: Gracie is a star. A gold one.
I did win the last card game I played with the Montana group. The game we played is called Insane.
5:38 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH, our condolences on your Avian friend’s passing.
We couldn’t help but snicker at the “sushi varies”. Does it vary by which dog decides to have a snack?
Newbies, I, as you may have guessed, am a Min-Pin. I had 4 puppies, 2 of whom are still in the family: Annie and Biddy. I also share my digs with 2 Chugs (chihuahua-pugs) Holly and Belle.
Holly and Biddy will be getting their own place Oct. 1, so hopefully the barkfest will subside.
5:42 pm on September 11th, 2013
Also: Macy has the best sense of humor of any dog we know. Also, she has a very nice beau…not to be confused with Beau the Black pug.
5:45 pm on September 11th, 2013
To introduce myself: someone did the research and found out that I was the first Plunderer to post on the Chet blog back in the days when there were just a handful of daily unrelated posts. I was actually in Kentucky when I picked up the first Chet book in a bookstore, read 2 pages and was hooked. I subsequently typed my first Amazon review and found this Chet blog. It was Rio who started posting lots and brought us together as a group.
Siber-H and Rio instigated our support of the Snowhook Kennel in the quest for Iditarod glory based on their supreme humanitarian care of their dogs. I am the only Plunderer who lives “locally” and in 2012 surprised the blog by reporting from the starting line in Willow. It was from a photo that I posted that Rio dubbed me a hobbit and I changed my blog name (he has a habit of changing or adding to names). In 2013 the first out-of-state Plunderers met Snowhook (Rose & Griz) and I surprised the blog by reporting from the finish line in Nome.
I have moved south about 400 miles to the big city and this coming season a few intrepid Plunderers are coming to Anchorage for the beginning of the 2014 race so there will be a reunion of sorts. The Hobbit Hotel will be open so that all can rest their weary heads, drink hot cocoa and bundle up in winter gear.
SadieBear is my only companion at the moment–in the last three years Plunderers have seen me through the loss of two long-time cats and one long-time dog. SadieBear is 6 years old. Welcome to our community

My Official Bio reads as follows: BearSpiritDog lives on an island in the Pacific NW off the coast of Washington. Members of the household include feline friend Masquers and Nana. A Belgian Malinois, Bear has been called a “Canine Houdini” who can escape from any enclosure and is able to leap tall fences in a single bound. He is a Master of the Art of Time Travel and there has been some speculation as to his present energy form.
6:18 pm on September 11th, 2013
HOH are newbies. WE lurked for a loooong time before talking. Sharon (aka mom), Daddy Dawg or old fart and 4 gogs, 3 Amazons and a pond of fish. Since thay are all $0.12 feeders, it doesn’t hurt feelings if they get caught (too often). We are going to AK this March for mom’s b-day after whooping cancer this spring.
6:23 pm on September 11th, 2013
Hurrah for the Herd of Hounds! Youse have become an Intregral Part of this here blog.
6:48 pm on September 11th, 2013
It is fun reading all of our bio’s today. I didn’t know that CHobbitHarris was the FIRST! I do know that it was inauguration day 2009. I came in some time that fall I think. I forgot to say that our brother the “Turtleman” is also occasionally on the blog. He is a printer and lover of old printing presses. He made the passports we are going on about and also he made the Plunderer Padfolio. Dawson and I “helped.”
6:52 pm on September 11th, 2013
Our alphabetical biographies are in the back of the Dishlickers cookbook. I just checked.
6:55 pm on September 11th, 2013
Masquers here, aka WeatherKat, Zen Kat, JazzKat & KatDog…who is also a member of the S-Team…a special squad of Plunderers who can *blurr at a moments notice to anyone in medical or emotional need.
BSD is my canine companion and personal guard dog.
note: *Blurring…a unique form of travel invented and purrfected by “Wolfie” Wigglebutt, Blurrer Extraordinaire.

We think Wolfie has shown Darah the Dozer blurring techniques!

Frank is looking for a girlfriend. He was in the dumps when Kat decided the Riö, Jr. was The One. Have Darah give him a whistle at the next party.
She knows how to whistle, right . . “You just put your (jowls) together and blow.”
Going to do a bit of reading . . bet youse guys can guess the reading material.
7:47 pm on September 11th, 2013
7:48 pm on September 11th, 2013
reading…moi too.
7:50 pm on September 11th, 2013
Mollypop started on the blog right after Obama’s swearing in. She lurked for a bit and then joined in. When Rio came on board, there was a kerfuffle and he said Mollypop was all poodled up. That has stuck with all of us. Mollypop died two years ago at the age of 11 from the dreaded bloat. I still get teary about that.
Now I have Victoria Peach’s Loulou for a companion. She is wonderful but cousin Princess Sam (my granddaughter’s dog) is in a snit. The family thought that would go so well. We will keep working on this. Sammie will come around – it just takes time.
7:54 pm on September 11th, 2013
(Darah) I’m working on putting my jowls together and blowing but Lauren Bacall looks soooo much better in satin than I do. Think Frank will ever look my way?
8:17 pm on September 11th, 2013
Rose (aka Wose): I am married to The Prof, (aka) Grizz. I don’t exactly remember when I found the website, and the really wonderful people blogging here. I work for a biotech company in Westchester County, NY, and my husband is an Adjunct Lecturer at several colleges in Westchester. I had the best cat, Kelly, who passed in 1987. I currently have no pets, but I have some very good kat and dog friends on this blog, among them my VBFF Belle Starr, my mama Luna, my dearest friend, Masquers, the wise and wonderful Bear Spirit Dog, Kat, and Sammie of the Smoochers, and my good pal Rio the Evil pug. I also count 00 Agent Wookie, and the most adorable Teddy as friends.
Grizz and I were lucky enough to be at the 2013 Iditarod, where we met Justin (aka AJ, or the Giant and the Best Damn Handler’s wife, Rebecca (aka Snowbella, and more recently the Pixie), the most excellent owners of the Snowhook Kennel, in Willow, Alaska.
Basically, I love all the two and four-leggeds on this blog!
8:17 pm on September 11th, 2013
Hey, Frank, you know how to whistle, don”t ya?
9:00 pm on September 11th, 2013

Saw that HOH. We have to go to bed too.
We love TSATF so far.
10:15 pm on September 11th, 2013
Darah, Frank is a gentleman. He did not know you were asking for him. The internet went off during these bad storms that have been echoing through our hills. I’m sure he would have gotten out from beneath the bed to speak to you.
The internet is on and I’m going to sleep.

Wait just a minute! I’ve just caught up reading the history and bios only to find we have a grumpy pug on this here blog! When did that happen? 🙂
I am just wrapping up at city number 2 of a four location work week. I keep blinking to clear up my vision, but it doesn’t work. I’m so tired, everything is blurry.

My very, most, special best friend, Wose already mention me on this here blog. I have a four-legged mama, Luna. She has a firm, but loving paw. And, I have a two-legged mama, SnowBella. What you should know about her is she is not funny, but I love her anyway. AJ, also known as the Giant is my paw. He’s a good guy and a push over when it comes to me—this makes him an even better guy.
My Two-Legged will tell you that we have AJ’s race dogs, retired dogs, young dogs, old dogs, dogs who don’t think they’re dogs—for some reason she glances in my direction when she says this—and what the Giant calls her projects, also known as her rescue dogs. Among these dogs are my Two-Legged’s first sled dog, Tenzing. Pancho and Lefty who are our kennel’s resident theives. Watch your pockets. You’ve been warned. We also have Rio Jr. who is named after his pug uncle.
What else should you know about us?—Only that the Plunderers are near and dear to our sled dog hearts.

I should add all of us here at the kennel use my Two-legged’s avatar because she won’t let us get our own email addresses. I know, I’m just as shocked as you are.

How’s the Lobstahs? None will sneak up on the Royal beach house with that mighty Corgi on duty.
Does anyone have any experience with using airline miles? I might want to go somewhere in late February .

oooo Macy…Come on if you can. It will be so much fun. I don’t have any idea how to use ‘miles’ though. Good luck.

Received an offer on my house and have just made a counter offer with a deadline of 8 pm tomorrow AST. I am accepting some of their requests and making a couple of my own. I will keep you posted but keep those fingers, toes, eyes crossed for a couple of days. If accepted, then comes a 2-week period of various inspections. What a process.
