Last Day To Enter This Month’s Friend Of Chet Contest!

“Remember when Amalia was in town?” Admin says.

“Yup,” says Spence. “We had a very nice time.”

“Didn’t you sign a whole bunch of things for her?”

“I did, now that you mention it.”

“Wonder what happened with that.”

“Me, too. There are a lot of black holes in life.”

“Now you’re sounding like me,” Admin says.

Welcome Beauregard, Elliot from Billings.

Good morning Bee. Nice to get mentioned up above, Amalia!

Melanie, Let us know how Zoe is doing after her doc. visit.

Beautiful, crisp day here. Got a nice rain last night, but no winds or lightening. Good for the farmers.

    Good morning everyone.

Look! There’s Elliot from Billings, Montana. Funny cat. Only lets you take close-ups or distance shots of him. No normal pictures.

I finished White Wings last night and will send it off to the Howlers today. What an ending! What a book! It takes you on a journey and like Tupper and Gilly said, it is magical. Thank you Dan. Wookie’s review was right on. I”ll also send that along, just because.

Working 12 hour shifts the next 3 days so I’ll be lurking.

Good morning everyone. We are off to check on Melanie at the hospital with Zoe. Will give her hugs from all of you.

    Greetings to ALL!

T&G: Please send Zoe plenty of hugs from me! Speaking of signed things, do we know when the Simon & Schuster contest winners will be announced?

Eliot looks like an undercover Kat to me.

Rio: I couldn’t ask this question last night, but I wondered how long it took your friend to construct the rose bush as pictured.

It is a beautiful day here in Croton-on-Hudson! The Prof and I have great weather to make our drive to Philly today. Everyone enjoy the rest of the week! BBS…

Have fun Rose and The Prof.

Hope the blog bug stays away, and not more mixed up Avatars!

Barb just sent off a request for some $$ from her retirement accounts. No, not for tin futures or Hawaiian pants!
Barb is going to be 1/3 owner in that buke shop she mentioned, and it is going to be a woman owned business. #1 DIL, #2 Barb, # 3 Son, Josh. Cool beans!
The shop will be called The Bike Haven, and the slogan is “Life Is a Cycle”. The kids have all kinds of great marketing ideas as well as youthful energy. Barb is along for the part time new job, and the excitement, plus her good financial statement will help on the credit end.

As Rio says, read, proof, submit. BIKE shop, not buke shop.

Typical!….Whenever someone gets to meet Spencer and the Charming Mr. Abrahams we never hear the whole story….snort!…We only get little tid-bits that don’t amount to squat…grunt!…So the only other person who knows what those guys are talking about is A. and apparently she hasn’t even told Tupper and Gilly about all the stuff that got signed during the Cape Cod visit….wheeze! grump!

    Hey everyone! Good morning!
At last, Mom is home with us so we can blog.

Rose: Great weather here in S.E. PA so you will enjoy your time in Philly!

Dawson: Thanks so much for offering to mail White Wings. Hardly seems fair since you had to cough up all that mula in the auction. But we are looking forward to reading it. Not sure if we can get to it before SEPTEMBER 6 tho! We are trying to finish up the book we are reading currently so that our plate is clean on 9/6.

    Best wishes to Zoe.

Rio: I’m checking in before leaving. Be back on-line on Saturday. I’m still curious about the answer.

OH: Thanks! It’s my first visit there, so I’m excited.

B&N: Thanks, and good luck with the mew enterprise!

Of all the big cities we have been to, Philly is our favorite. We love the historic combined with the modern. And all the little neighborhoods. It never really feels like a big city.

Barb, this is a great time to start a bike shop. Everyone is getting bikes nowadays. We don’t like them, because now that Mom & Pop are into biking, it leaves them even less time for hikes with us.

Rio – don’t blame is when avatars get mixed up. We are NOT technoKats!

Anyway, Mama just emailed us from the hospital. Zoe is all done with her procedure. She is awake and having an English muffin and is smiling and looking fine. She does have an interesting headgear. We will let Melanie tell you about that later.
But all is well and that’s all we care about.

Now Mama is heading off on an all day (non-fun) road trip.
    Talk to you later

Rose!….The person, not the …whatever!…snort!,…If you would have said you were checking in before you left I would have answered your question….grunt!…Now you won’t be online again till way in the future, so whats the point of me sitting down figuring out the amount of wasted time she spent on that rose bush so far….grump!

Kats!….I CANNOT believe Stinky-Mama is leaving on an all-day road trip without telling us what today’s post is all about!!!!…..Double-Grump!

Zoe!…Pug kisses and slobbers go out to my little Zoe!…sniffle! ….I hope she is not in any pain or discomfort…wuffle!…I hope her english muffin is thoroughly delightful…sniff!

The last day of August and (for me) summer is officially ending, although for most that would be the upcoming Labor Day. We are heading into autumn as evidenced by the sprinkling of “fall”ing leaves and cooler nights. Nice daytime temps in the forecast for the weekend and that’s very good news.

Everyone – hoping your day goes well.

And, who saw it first? Friend Rio who usually doesn’t even pay attention to facebookie. The news is Great, but we don’t like being late. So much for our future as Blog reporter.

There is this group called Dogster that we belong to on Facebookie. They posted:
“Survey says: 10% of dog and cat owners would be willing to spend more than $3,000 on medical procedures if it would help save their pet’s life. Weigh in Dogstars!”
That got us to thinking…$3,000! Like we’ve said, Mom & Pop’s finances are a mess. What would happen to us if we needed a procedure?
Meashka, get back here! It was just a hypothetical.

Whew, what a great dog nap. Patsy and I snoozed for over TWO hours! I’m not saying I’m exhausted, but with prep for the hurricane and then the flooding and then running Zoë to the doc and then going to the hospital . . .

Okay results hopefully on Friday. Zoë says thank you VERY much for your support.

Loved the article! $1,000? Where’d that figure come from?

Anyhoo, hopefully more money will come in for Snowhook! And Spencer will sell more books.

If he sold more books do you think he’d be able to leave the yard work to Admin?

Going to watch the Closer now. BBL

Oh, I feel sick from all that twirling…is the room spinning for anyone else or is it just me? I can’t believe it—Snowhook was mentioned among Chet the Jet and the Plunderers!

Can we keep this hush-hush from Belle Starr? She’s upset that I haven’t added her picture for the FOC drawing and will be doubly upset that the article wasn’t about her.

  56. Alice M. Johnson
    5:15 pm on August 31st, 2011

Poor Belle, She will just have to hang out with us unmentionable Kats! Heh We will make her welcome. But I for one am not going to lick that puppy. She would be major furball attack.

I am wondering if admin will allow furball when he won’t allow s-ho-e-s….

    5:21 pm on August 31st, 2011

I think that Spence and Snowbank owe a big thank you to Atria’s Ariele Fredman for that article. Also I was doing a little research and Carol Memmott wrote a good review of Dog On It way back when. She should be a FOC too.

Send in a pic Carol. What is the worst that could happen? Heh.

Barb: Your new venture sounds like a winner! It just may be the way out of Crazy Lady Land. Paws crossed for Good Fortune ahead!

Melanie: Good to know Zoe came through the procedure with an appetite and smile. We will worry until the all clear is sounded.
Nana is still laughing over her remark that the Golden Years are Puce. She repeated it to the boy’s dad and he got a good laugh out of it also.

Hey, y’all! I can’t reach the mailbox, so I had to wait until Mom got home from the library to check for mail. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Not even junk mail.

But on the good news front, Mom’s all excited because her library got TDWKTM today! It won’t go on the shelf until next Tuesday’s release date, but (whispering) Mom’s thinking about sneaking it back into the breakroom during lunch to get a head start! The library police are clear downtown, so I think she’d get away with it, but would that be cheating?

Oh, and I was so excited about Mom getting her hands on a copy of TDWKTM that I forgot to say:

Congratulations to Chet and the Plunderers — especially five named by name! — and Snowhook for getting special notice from USA Today! Are we good or what? (I’m trying to overlook the inaccuracies for the sake of the fact that it’s there at all!)

Congratulations also to Zoe for coming through the procedure with flying colors and an English muffin! Did I mention that I like English muffins, too? If you dropped any crumbs you can always send them my way! Paws crossed for good news on Friday.

We are happy to report that someone has stepped forward to donate the costs of the decals! We need to decide how much to charge. Does anyone think that $3.00 is too much to ask? It is for Snowhook, after all. Once I send them the final image, it will take a week to print and our wonderful Spirit Bear will be handling post office duties.

Mom has is waiting to get a price from the printer regarding bumper stickers. And we are waiting to see if the same folks can print magnets. I’ll keep everyone posted.

By the way, where is Siber? And Wookster?

I say 3 dollars and that is a great price so don’t worry about it any more.

You know you can go to a craft store and buy sticky magnet backs and just put the decals on it. No need to do magnets separate.
But we will probably get them a lot faster if we do them from a printer. 🙂

So who do we send our orders and the money to. I mean to whom do we send the money? Or am I going to fast?

Hi Gang – Mama finally got home from her all-day, not fun errand. Whew!
Wolfie – you are the most Fabulous, Plunderific Puppy!! Wahoo for decals. Our Gramp is just beaming that you all thought his idea was good. We promised to get decals for every vehicle, fridge, notebook and window that he wants. AQnd we are getting some for us too! We don’t think $3 is too much at all. Especially as it is for the now famous Snowhook!
Rebecca – be sure to send a copy of that article to the people who are thinking about the dogumentary! And thanks to BSD for being the postmaster general – you are so much better at it than the government version.
Barb and Maggie – we didn’t get a chance to say it before but CONGRATULATIONS on the bike shop deal. How wonderful and fabulous and fantastic. At least one of us gets away from her Crazy Lady!
Howlers and Company and MAcy – glad you are happy. Hopefully all the Plunderers will have their curiosity satisfied tomorrow. If not, blame the danged post office – no wonder they are loosing money!
Rio – just hold your little pug breath – it’s coming.

We will wait patiently for the surprise, and Macy you are not a jerk in our eyes.

Thank you T & G’s mama, but we can’t get actively involved in the buke/bike shop till we can move back. Hopefully by spring. Thank you Melanie for the def. of buke..

We read the article, clicked on the email symbol, wrote in where we wanted to send the email of the article, put in our email and clicked send. Did it 4 times, and no one got them. What did we do wrong?

Pug dog…I have to assume that you and your friend are just perpetually unhappy. I do not have much to get excited about these days. Sorry if you can’t let me have my one little moment of joy. It would be pointless for new people to join the blog, as you would just belittle them and make them feel unwelcome. There, you made me cry. Feel better now!??

To all other Plunderers, I love youse guys. My contact with the real world is pretty limited these days. All of you, plus my facebookie friends are all I have to look forward to. Not asking for any sympathy, just feel so sad. Anyhoo, GO PLUNDERERS!!!

Macy and Mom, don’t let that spoil your enjoyment of the surprise!! We think Rio is just feeling sorry because he wasn’t 1st to know! Macy, Go give your mama a big slobbery kiss. Wish you were closer, we would share some ice cream with you.

Now we are going to go have our treat and the off to bed.

Plan to start reading a new book – we got The Walk and Miles to Go by Richard Evans. Checked them out of the library today and were told to read The Walk first. Has anyone read them? Also ordered two books by the author of Started Early, Took the Dog. Someone on the blog recommended them the other day. Night all.

Gus and Boo, thanks, us Texans gotta stick together.

Mom finished the first certificate at school, Office Assistant. Now she is starting the Administrative Assistant program. Powerpoint, Access, *business math*, writing, etc, etc, etc. The current class is “Internet Concepts”, another one of those snooze classes, but at least this one is not making her brain explode, unlike Word intermediate. She still gets to do Word advanced. If you need something cool whipped up (on paper) she is your girl. Or if your mail needs to get merged, or books need to get marked, or…

Awww Macy – don’t be sad. We ARE here for you – we are all here for each other. Bet your Mom remembers when she was a little girl, the best way to tell that a boy liked her was when they picked on her. We think maybe Rio has a crush on you. You are quite the little beauty after all. Maybe he is just being rotten cuz he has a crush on you. Maybe he is just jealous cuz Redbone likes you best.

So, whats new on the farm?

    Hey Macy,
I took a word 98 course many many years ago. It was fun cause I didn’t have to take it, I just wanted to. Amazing what you can do with that program.
Then there came Word 2003 and 2007 and 2010 and now I have lost a lot of the knowledge I had about it. I bet you are getting plenty smart with all those classes.

Do they talk about the open office program at all in your classes? That is what I use now because it is FREE! But I don’t know nearly as much about it as I do word. However it will open my old Word Documents and Google docs and lots of other programs that Word won’t. Ha!

Staff – Open Office is FREE??? Please -do tell!

  96. Staff
    11:03 pm on August 31st, 2011

Yup, Just go to OpenOffice.org and download your free copy right now. You can donate to them if you wish but you get the same program whether you do or not. When I got my new computer they gave me a 30 day version of Word 2010 and then wanted mega bucks to continue. My sister, the Catty Librarian told me about OpenOffice.org and I am very happy with it.

My old programs are all in word and the first time I try to open one the computer tells me I need to buy Word to access them. I just right click and choose ‘open with’ and select Openoffice and I never see that window again. I will eventually get all my files moved over to it, but I am just changing them as I need them.

Dear Staff – We think we are in love with you! thank you so much! We had the same issue with our notebook – Mama says she is WAY too cheap to buy another word system when she has a very good one on her big computer. But its a pain in the behind to not be able to write things on the notebook – after all that is what she takes when she is on the road. She has been doing the “save in email drafts folder” thing but now – oh boy – she will be able to actually have word again. Yippee…thank you thank you thank you – and thanks to the Catty Librarian too!

Staff, no we haven’t done open office. Do you know about “cloud computing”. It seems like science fiction to us. You can get a stripped down version of MS programs to work with and share.

When mom was an executive admin, she used ’98. Things that took her all morning to do take about 3 clicks in 2010. It is completely mind-blowing. MS Publisher is on its way out because Word can create pretty amazing stuff.

Anon Decal Donor: Would you send me a SDD so I can thank you personally. Your identity will remain secret, I just want to say a proper thank you.

Mr. Wigglebutt: You have been busy on Snowhook’s behalf. My, oh my we are fortunate.

Abbie: Not to worry, not to worry—Bev, my mother would be upset if I didn’t thank Ariele. I was able to thank her for the article via email. I told her not to worry about getting the amount incorrect—the intent behind her efforts is more than appreciated. I still can’t believe it!

Rio: I remember sitting in the living room waiting between race updates and telling Coach that I was going to post a message to the Plunderers on the Snowhook blog. We both felt that it was quite possibly the smartest thing I was going to do that day (along with eat a slice of cheesecake). I’ve shared only with a couple of you, that posting on the Snowhook blog felt inspired. I posted and then came the proding by a certain pug to make a comment on Chet’s blog. I was a bit shy and hesitant; Chet’s seemed a very special, very close community and I wondered if I would be intruding. During the race, I lurked on the blog each night after all, but maybe perhaps Liz had gone to bed. I always lurked in the wee hours of the morning as I waited for race updates—I felt as if I was supported by each of you as I waited, watched and worried. Those lurking hours were quiet hours except for my own laughter at the comments made each day. A certain pug insisted even more that I stop by for a visit. I soon discovered that Chet’s blog is where friends are found. Thank you to each of you.

Macy: I’m excited too, but I have no idea why. I love surprises! They, whoever they are, say every woman should have a LBD—little, black dress for long. I was just thinking on my way into work to day that each blog should have LBD, little, black dog—your mom might disagree when she’s looking for you in the dark, though. 🙂

Kirby T: Oh, the temptation…I don’t think I’d have the restraint.

Macy – ummmm…we aren’t all that up to date – what is “cloud computing”?

  102. Staff
    11:46 pm on August 31st, 2011

    Macy,
I only have my Panda Virus protection in the cloud. Oh yes, I just got Kindle in the Cloud last week. I have to read the books at my computer though. Even though it is a laptop I am already beginning to wish I had an e-book. Quite a change for me as I just love bookstores and turning pages and just the feel of sitting down with a book.

Oh, I forgot I also have all my bookmarks on Delicious. I love that. I can be anywhere and borrow a computer and I have my bookmarks. I did that after I got my second computer. It was such a pain to migrate the bookmarks that I never use the ones on the computer any more. It is all in the cloud.

I have a friend (in the quilt club) who uses google docs in her work and she sends me documents and I can change them and update them. I think that is cool, but you probably know all about that already. I have done it only a few times for quilt club stuff.

It is amazing what all is out there if I only knew.

Heh, Tupper, Macy and the Catty Librarian are going to bring us all up to date! Going back to school isn’t so bad. A Catty went to become a Librarian and did! And she is old too! Well, not as old as me….sob, but old enough.

When I think of how much things have changed in the last 10 years it just amazes me. And when I think of all the things we have learned from this blog…that is amazing too. Mollypop and Melanie and Rio all teaching us new things. Like HTML. BStover helping us with our punctuation and all sorts of stuff. Heh. We are getting smarter by the minute.

WEll I am off to bed. If I stay up too long I will have to talk to Liz! Snicker,

Night all and g’day to Liz.

Basically, and I mean really basically, cloud computing lets you store a doc or spreadsheet or dog knows what else in the “cloud” and then you can retrieve it from any other computer. Other people can access it someway with your permission. Windows Live Update is where the cloud jetport is. Just take a look.
