Great story! “It was like a dog from heaven.”

Good luck to T and G’s mom and dad for a great shew, and to ML for a successful sale.

And to everyone else for a good day.

Nana, I was in Duluth yesterday, and it was raining, 42 degrees, and wind gusting at 35 mph. Make sure you bring a sweater when you visit. Just sayin’.

Good morning. Lady Bunny, who’s a good dog?

Rio, we agree with you exactly about Fargo. Deadline.

    Youse are Up Early!
Now who does this little dog story remind us of?

Hounds: Waiting for you to turn up the Heat a little. It doesn’t get to 70 until the end of the day.

Billy’sBuddy: Gah. 45 degrees…and Stormy…lot of storms back there. Not good flying weather.

BluKat: So sorry about the damaged car, but Thank Dog your Dad is okay.

On a very similar note: one year the ‘rents went to Hatteras for vacation. When they unpacked their suitcases, Mom discovered she didn’t pack her shorts. NO SHORTS. That was a similar, unplanned shopping adventure. Did we tell youse that Mom hates to shop?

OH, our mom’s must be twins! Our mom hates to shop, too. If she really NEEDS something, she prefers to curl up with a good catalogue.

    Good morning everyone.
Riö: A Fargo writer’s deadline. You are right. That is the only logical explanation…and the only reason the grand finale needed to run an extra 30 minutes was to get in some extra commercials.
Howlers: Is this your go-to-work day?
Not a fan of shopping here either. Katalogs are the only way to go.

Good upbeat story to start the day. Roofer is here even tho it looks cloudy out there. Sears is coming to fix microwave this morning and two munchkins will be here from noon till 4:00. Busy, not-at-work day!

Barb does not like to shop either. She never goes to malls and usually just power shops when she needs something, or uses the internet.

Barb’s sister got totally different genes. Not into environmental issues or animals, but LOVES to shop. Her idea of entertainment is shop, lunch, shop, nap. Every time we have a family get together, Barb has to follow along while people shop, her idea of torture!

Good job, Lady Bunny! It does sound as if Lady Bunny runs around loose. Bad job! An eagle’s brunch waiting to happen.

Blue Kat: Hope your Dad is still feeling okay after the accident.

T&G: Good luck to the Royal Mum and Storyteller (dressed to the nines) on the show this weekend.

I am sort of glad it is an all-day-drizzle outside. I have so many bug bites I may have to take a bath in calamine lotion. Two no-see-ums got me – one on each eyelid. The left eye is bitten on the outside corner of eye and the right eye has a bite right in the middle of the lower eye lid, swollen and making vision a bit blurry. Not to mention right behind the ears, the neck, the arms the legs etc. Bumper crop of biting insects this year.

Barb picked up her car from the dealership last night. She is glad she bought the extended warranty when she got the car 3 years ago. Her plan was to have the car for a long time so she got top of the line 75,000 mile warranty. So her $4-500.00 air conditioner repair cost her $100. It also provided her with a rental car for the two days. She had her first time ever detailing on the car and it now looks like a brand new, just out of the showroom model! $110.00 for deluxe exterior wash and interior detailing, and it was well worth it. Barb is so cheap, I never thought I would hear her say that!

That is a nice article, but that little doggie could be taken so easily by a predator.

Bluecat, Glad your dad is okay but it is always such a hassle to take care of all the business afterwards. You deserve to drive around in a Porsche for all your trouble…bill it to the guilty party’s insurance.

    12:40 pm on June 20th, 2014

Darah, Did you eat him, head (and eyeballs) and all?

Amalia, Barb did have fun with the monster truck, but she should have had a little step stool to make it easier to get in and out.

I did not know the had No See Ums in Canada. Thought they were a southern insect like chiggers. We only have mosquitoes here, and that is bad enough.

  25. Barb & Maggie
    12:43 pm on June 20th, 2014

Siber, Unfortunately the rental coverage on insurance usually has a max. per date rate. $40.00 per day is typical. Luxury cars are usually more than that. I think Barb’s monster truck would have been $50.00 per day. Then rental company gives a special rate to the Ford dealership, so it was only $30.00 per day.

There was an accident very close to us this morning. It was on a little country road just across from our field. We used to ride our horses on that winding road before Pop got scarit. A woman was out for a morning walk, and hit and killed by a pickup truck. The woman was the CEO of the company which is 2nd largest employer in our county. Very sad.

Loulou and I took our usual walk down the Lehigh memorial trail. We walk on Main Street, busy busy busy, with her in the stroller and then when we get to the trail she gets out and walks. Today there was an older man at the start of the trail and we walked past him to the spot where I was taking Loulou out of the stroller. He came up and wanted to pet Loulou. Then he walked on ahead down the trail but stopped at the first bench and sat down. I was concerned that it looked like he was waiting for me. I was beginning to get uncomfortable. When we got to the bench he got up and he walked a little further down the trail and stood there off the edge of the path. There was a woman with a big dog ahead of me and also another man. Further ahead there was a truck with workers cutting grass. I felt safe continuing to walk ahead but knew I was going to have to come back, so I quickly picked up Loulou and put her back in the stroller. She couldn’t believe it because we had just gotten there. We high-tailed it back home. I’m still creeped out about the whole thing.

Everyone thought the Storyteller looked very nice today. grrrr

  52. Barb & Maggie
    7:41 pm on June 20th, 2014

MPM, Might have been a harmless situation, but we think it is better to follow your gut instincts as HOH said. If something was making you uneasy, you were probably right. Can you carry a little spray of mace? Of course since you said he was older, maybe he was just in poor shape.

Lyla, who is going to be 8 in September announced that she wants to be a vegetarian because she doesn’t like killing animals. Barb told her she admires her love of animals but she thinks she should be older before she makes that decision. She still need protein to grow, doesn’t she? Josh doesn’t think it is a good idea, but Jess said she supports her decision. What do you think? Should a 7 year old be allowed to make decisions like this? We say NO!

  53. Mollypop's Mom
    7:53 pm on June 20th, 2014

I say YES, but it’s qualified. She can’t live and grow with the wrong foods. She has to make good choices to get adequate protein and adequate B12 vitamins. She can’t live on bread and cereal and cookies. It needs to be the good food like vegetables and salads and again some nice high-protein. If it’s done correctly it can be very healthy. At her age she can’t make the right diet decisions so she needs help.

  54. c.hobbit
    8:06 pm on June 20th, 2014

I have friends whose young daughter said the same thing. She loves animals so much she didn’t want to kill or eat them. She has been vegetarian ever since. The family eats healthy and makes sure she gets protein from non-animal sources (the rest of the family eats meat). My niece as a teen wanted to go vegetarian and did for a while but felt better when she ate meat so it was just a phase she went through. I say give it a go and reassess in a couple of weeks or a month. If she is serious about this, see if mom and daughter can meet with a dietician or nutritionist to answer questions before starting on the new program.

P.S. I also have a vegetarian friend who has raised her children vegetarian from birth. All are healthy and strong.

Nana’s family thinks Vegetarianism is a Good Thing.
Her mother and two sisters followed/follow this practice. Nana, although she is becoming increasingly more conscious of our food sources does not.
We think it will be difficult for Lyla to continue eating meat when she feels so strongly on the subject.

  58. O'Howlers
    8:55 pm on June 20th, 2014

We agree with Nana and the others. We have a 15-year old friend who has been vegetarian for a couple of years. She and her mother make sure that she follows a healthy diet, with plenty of protein. If Lyla’s mother is willing to help her, vegetarian can be quite nourishing.

  60. Barb & Maggie
    9:08 pm on June 20th, 2014

Well, we agree a teenager is probably old enough to make that decision and make wise choices about alternate protein sources. A 7 year old, IMO, can’t do that without parental help. Mom is so busy that she probably won’t take the time to go to a nutritionist to chart a food plan for her. Josh might be more likely to do that. However, since he cooks paleo at home (Josh does more of the cooking) they have mostly meat, veggies, fruit and nuts. It’s easier to get complete proteins if you are mixing grains, beans, corn, and rice in your diet. I just thing she is going to have a lopsided diet. I still think a girl’s body has done most of its growing by the time they go thru puberty, and that would be a better time to go vegetarian. Of course, I am not the decision maker in this case.

  61. Barb & Maggie
    9:25 pm on June 20th, 2014

One more comment, and I know this might be old fashioned. I think a 7 year old does not make the rules. She is a child and should eat what’s put on her plate. If she can tell her parents what she will and will not eat at 7, what is she going to be telling them when she is 16?

  62. O'Howlers
    9:33 pm on June 20th, 2014
