Good morning all. Interesting article. Barb learned that I would rather she pet me then talk to me. Usually she does both. Who’s a good girl?

    Greetings!

I thought the study was interesting too. I do talk to dogs, but I pet them way more. I love giving tummies. For me, there is something very soothing in petting a kat or dog. Wish I had a dog or kat to pet right now…not feeling tip-top today.

From the day late, and a dollar short page:

ML, so sorry to hear about your f-i-l.
Tyb’s dad must be so proud!! Love the bumper sticker! Who’s a good boy?

Read last night’s later posts. Sorry to hear about your FIL, MaryLou. Hope the news is good today. And yes, the font is different when I post. Thought it was something I accidentally did.

Now I know why I didn’t want to wallpaper my bathroom. Have you ever tired to put a piece of wet sticky wallpaper behind a toilet?
It ain’t easy! I just finished one – had to lay on the floor and try to move the piece around with about a half inch of clearance behind the dam toilet! It’s on and in place, in a manner of speaking.

Good Morning all and sympathy and prayers to ML. Prefer petting, huh? I guess this is a variant on actions speaking louder than words.
Wose, please stretch and breathe. (That’s kind of like being petted, right?) The day will get better.

Barb says that she loves bears, but would find it a little scary to have one in the backyard. Do they ever get aggressive?

Wose, have you ever thought of getting a guinea pig or two? I think you would greatly benefit from having a little creature to love.

  14. Tupper's Mama
    11:43 am on September 8th, 2014

So far the bears are always just passing through. Gilly has chased them out of the yard before, but our concern is that she might get between a mama bear and her cubs. One of the local bears has triplets, and she has very little fear about being out in the open. She is often seen sitting in a yard while her cubs play around her.
This is why the Bear Spirit is considered to be such a strong protector. Bears don’t have to DO anything to be considered scary. They just have to BE, and smart people respect their space.

Good morning, all. Mom’s last Monday of not working. She is doing ok. Family has all returned to respective homes.

Silly question. Do y’all tuck sheets and blankets under all around the mattress or just on the foot of the bed? Mom started wondering when she washed and remade all the beds this weekend (at 2 in the morning–couldn’t sleep). Mom tucks all around but no one else in her family does.

    Good day to everyone.

ML: Sorry to hear that you have been spending even more time in the ER. Prayers being said for you and your family.
On a different note, you are doing well with the handbells!

    Bear Season.
T&G: Please don’t try to herd the bears. They can be untrustworthy.
Our local bears have discovered the “community trail”, leaving large piles of scat which works to discourage the community from using the trails.

Zero degrees here today (which is your 32 degrees) The precipitation has stopped for now. Hoping it has gone south to DianeC’s area. A few sunflowers fell over with the weight of slush but everything else seems okay. The squashes are covered with blankets. I will take the blankets off if it warms up. The tomatoes are all harvested though most are still green and will be eaten as they ripen.

Very interesting article. I know I don’t like to be talked to death. (I leave) Mom isn’t guilty of that but some of the women at the dog park are with excessive baby talk that makes me want to splort. (I leave)

The font on this blog hasn’t changed at all for me.

The remnants of hurricane Norbert have arrived here. It is cloudy with a lovely, cool, stiff breeze…maybe will get some moisture or maybe not. We only get a “hurricane” once about every 10 years

  19. Siber-H
    12:54 pm on September 8th, 2014

BooBear Mom tucks all around…probably because her mother and grandmother did it. Mom’s grandma ironed the sheets. The thought of doing that has never crossed my mom’s mind.

NM bears rarely get aggressive toward humans but it has happened.
About a decade ago a bear broke into a small house in northern NM and killed an elderly lady. Bears do break into tents, but it is because the humans have kept food in their tent while sleeping.

  20. Herd of Hounds,
    1:08 pm on September 8th, 2014

BooBear, our mom tucks in the bottom and about 8 inches on her side. The DDD doesn’t like his feet tight so that side is untucked, until Darah or Blondie lick his toes 🙂 What a good time we have.

Oh come on now, is he really allergic to anything with fur? I thought it was just dogs and cats.

Siber, I see Border Collie and Lab mix. However, being Alaska, probably some Husky mixed in.

You girls have me all confused with the sheet question. I use a fitted sheet on the bottom, and then tuck the top sheet in at the foot of the bed. How do you get under in if it is all tucked in? Do you pull it all out before getting in bed? And you say it looks neater, but with a comforter/quilt/bedspread on top, no one sees the sheet anyway. So what am I missing here?

Yes, when a young married women, I ironed EVERYTHING. I had one of those big sit down ironers called an Iron Rite. Of course, that was in the days before permanent press fabric. This is really going to make you splort, but I used a wringer washer too! Not that I had to, I just thought the clothes were cleaner. I used to wash diapers in one of those things too! Oh my!

I hope Rio has recovered mentally and physically from being a “purse dog” –carried around in the airport in a duffle bag provided by Rebecca with holes cut for his legs. But he made it home which is all that matters. When he discovered that food cooked a lot faster in Anchorage at a lower altitude, I thought he was going to stay.

We are in the hospital corner/ tucked only at the foot camp. We were brought up to tuck all the way around, but with teen age rebellion and all that…

Bee – we would pay real money to be there when you are attacked by a giggle fit. It makes us chuckle just to think about it.

Wose – maybe Grizz would be willing to visit a guinea pig at a pet store to see if he is ‘lergic, as Belle Starr would say. Gpigs really can be very affectionate and personable cuddle pets.

Guess what – next week at this time, we will be sitting pretty at our beloved beach cottage. And the Storyteller will be washing the lobster juice off his chin.

  56. Barb & Maggie
    6:44 pm on September 8th, 2014

Siber, We agree, Max is a better name for him. Quill is just too sharp. Go figure.

Also agree with T & G. Get him to go visit a pet store and see. I bet he is not allergic to a GPig. Maybe he just says that because he thinks they are too much work. Not trying to be overly critical, but I have noticed that a lot of people play the Allergic Card for not getting a pet or giving them up to rescue. Guinea Pigs have a fairly long life span too, much better than hamsters, and they are so cute.
Ask your therapist what he/she thinks of the idea. It is a known fact that people that have a pet in the home are both mentally and physically healthier.

When I enlarge a FOC photo instead of being a little bigger, it takes up 80% of the screen. This happens with the two photos that are on top. Haven’t tried it with the gallery of FOC pictures.

The worst and most inappropriate giggle fit Barb ever had happened when she was 14 or 15 years old. She and her best friend were spending a few weeks on the farm of her favorite aunt. On Sunday morning, she went to the little country church with her aunt, uncle, and their three kids. When the minister opened his mouth to start talking, he sounded exactly like Truman Capote! Barb and her fiend broke into giggles (silent ones were attempted). As she remembers it, they were complete asses, and had trouble controlling themselves through out the service. I bet her aunt could have killed them!

Giggles! Mom has a worse giggle story than Barb’s. She was an adult! A work friend’s father died, and she and another woman attended the funeral. The service was in a funeral home. Something was said or someone did something that made them giggle. She doesn’t remember what it was. But the more they tried to stop themselves, the more they giggled. If you have ever tried to stop yourself, you must know it just makes it worse. It was horrendous! They were mortified.
Thankfully, their friend never mentioned it. She doesn’t think she knew, as they are still good friends.

Howlers, we know what you mean. You both are sitting there shaking from the silent laughter, and your eyes are tearing and you can’t stop yourself. We did it too.

Dawson, Barb thought she was being extravagant when she bought some pre-folded diapers instead of the long ones that you folded in fourths or thirds, depending on the size of the baby. Now days they all use disposable diapers and are filling up the land fills. What is wrong with these young people?

Remember the famous scene in the Mary Tyler Moore show? Chuckles the Clown was wearing a peanut costume and got “shelled” by an elephant. While everyone else makes jokes, she is horrified. But then at the funeral, it gets to her and she can’t stop giggling.
We have been in that situation. Ours included a college course, an arrogant, self righteous professor with his fly open and a front row seat.

Unfortunately my friend was sitting beside her cousin, the one she sat with on the school bus and laughed with everyday….grunt!….As the proceedings wore on both her and her cousin looked down as she peeled the present away from her sweaty little paws and they were purple!…heh!heh!…They wanted to laugh out loud so badly..oh my dawg….No one in their life has tried harder not to laugh like these two did, but they kept shuddering and shaking…snort!…I think my friend finally quit when it was her turn to speak at the podium…gah!…She still likes the color purple but it always reminds her of The Confirmation Day Giggles….snorkel!
