Jumpstart (More)

“Anyone throw anything at the Jumpstart event last night?” Admin says.

“Only money,” says Spence. “Although not at me. Over $100,000 was raised for this excellent cause. I had a good time on a panel moderated very well by Bill Barke of Pearson, and got to meet a smart and funny group of writers – Jane Smiley, Jane O’Connor and Michael Holley. Plus it was very good to be in Boston.”

“Visit the Marathon memorial?”

“I did.”

Welcome two cool dudes, seen here:

We love you Chet!

Gooood morning everyone! Wow, the “Rose” tatoo knocked us for a loop! Great news about Jumpstart’s fundraiser 🙂 Rio, wish we could send you spring, if anyone pugserves it, you do. Your tummy must be frozen after walks (he he).
Does the Storyteller really come home today? Yippy!

Way to go Spence! That is wonderful news about the fundraising. People are so generous when properly inspired.

Wahoooo! Mama is on her way to the hospital to kidnap the Storyteller!! She has a bunch of pillows in the car to tuck around him. And she plans to bring a milkshake along for his ride home celebration.

One of the “officials” at the hospital stopped by yesterday to tell him that they are going to miss him – that he was a polite, friendly and hard working patient. He also spent some time with a couple of nurses and nurses’ aids who were having bad days and apparently helped them feel better. Word of this got back to the higher ups, and they thought he was so kind to minister to their staff.

    That’s my boy.

But, now we want him back!

Great news about the storyteller coming home today. I know a couple of Corgis and maybe even a couple of kats that will be very excited at the news.

It certainly is weird weather we have having around the country. Here in Chevy Chase we are actually having a few days of real spring, finally. Our lettuces that were planted about three weeks ago are growing nicely now and we had our first homegrown arugula salad just the other night. Will need to put the cages on the tomato plants in another few days.

Good going Spence on fund raising for a great cause.

    Good Morning All
That is a fantastic amount of money raised for a great cause!

Leonard coming home today is more great news!

Wookie’s Dad, There was a wildfire up on the west face of Sandia mountain yesterday. They are getting it under control but it is still burning. It has to be human caused, and while they were fighting the fire on the mountian, some jerk set five little fires where the La Luz trail begins.
NM is now number one for the worst drought conditions in the country.

Good on Spence for being a good fund raiser, and honoring those whose lives were lost at the Boston Marathon.

T & G, Barb allows no pictures of her to be taken when she is dancing. She usually limits her dancing to weddings, acrowed floor, and a few drinks first. She actually reaches a point where she thinks she can dance! Snicker

Great start on Wall Street. New high for the S & P. Barb is feeling so rich she is going to splurge and buy two new flower pots and some potting soil!

B&M: Mom was thinking of taking all the accumulated pots from years past, dumpung dead & weeds, getting bags of potting soil, a flat of flowers, a couple of veggies and doing a portable, stairway, hanging, keep the HOH snouts out of it garden. Says her raised beds only get enough sun for herbs (not kats). MMM…wonder what would happen if we planted kats?

Hooray! Storyteller is coming home today, pain free at last.

Barb is going out to buy her resin half-barrels for container plants. They are on sale for $9.99. so she is going to extend her garden by doing 2 container tomatoes, 1 barrel for peppers and 1 for zucchini. Back soon.

As they were leaving the hospital, the nurses, nurses’ aides and therapists were all coming up to say farewell. The Storyteller was walking with just a cane, and one of the student nurses wanted to give him a big bear hug. Mama had to tell her to be gentle and said, “Please… don’t squeeze the shaman.”

Staff was out working on her bike early this morning (10:00) even though we had a frost last night. She had to raise the seat and the handlebars about an inch and a half. She says the pedals on this bike are much higher than her last bike. Of course maybe ‘lady’ bikes are always that way.

Then she went for a test drive. Out into the yard and over to the road and down the road a while. It wasn’t too cold even though she was only in her pajamas with a blaze orange insulated sweatshirt over them.
Then she turned around to come back and realized the biting cold north wind was now in her face.

    Oof.

That ride back was cold and much more work than going out. However she made it back. Mr.Staff was warned that if he took a picture of her on her hot pink bike with her orange sweatshirt and her green pj’s she would hurt him bad. Especially with her tongue hanging out like that. (Next time she is taking gloves)

Then she had to take a nice warm nap in the sun in the recliner with Abbie on her lap.

    snicker.

What I wouldn’t give for a picture of Staff in her pajamas on her new bicycle. (You can’t get away with that in the city.) I took a short bike ride today also and when I turned toward home it felt like a zillion needles were being poked into my face. The snow had turned into little ice shards.
SiberH: It’s a long time until the rains are due in NM, right? I am not going to complain any more about a little wet snow or rain.
When I came inside from my ride, Dad was at the computer listening to some music. Here are the lyrics to the song he was listening to: “I will never smile again until I smile at you. I will never laugh again – what good would it do? Tears would fill my eyes…”

    Hi Gus and BooBear!

Sam, I thought I had the photo thing figured out, but my picture is sideways on the large computer. You do look cute being upside down.

Zoë and I went for a walk and met one of the neighbors. It’s amazing that none of us see each other from January until Spring . . We do meet at stores though. Weird.

Anywoof, she was saying that every time she goes down to a certain part of her garden (ferns up to your waist) she remembers my Dad! Turns out he had walked down the street two years ago and was resting on her bench. She came out to say hi and he told her she had a poison ivy problem. She didn’t believe him and asked him to point it out.

Well, Dad KNEW poison ivy in all its forms because, dog, he would catch it. So he showed her that the entire area of ferns had poison ivy on the ground. It took her two years to get rid of that infestation!

Now every time she goes to that area she thanks him!

    Testing, testing 1,2,3….

Ahem. Before I go back under the quilt for the night, I have an announcement.
In the spirit of today’s blog post, I would like to put forth the next initiative to help our favorite musher, AJ, best damn handler’s wife, Rebecca, and the Snowhook team get closer to the 2014 Iditarod starting line.

We are all aware of the costs of participating in the Iditarod, and the costs of maintaining equipment. We know that Rebecca does a lot of repairs on much of the equipment AJ uses. There are some things that can’t be repaired. Like dog harnesses. Grizz and I have seen how revved up the dogs get before the race, how excited they are to run, run, run. And no matter how many Slim Jim’s are given, sometimes that harness tastes a whole lot better.

Today, the “Have Harness, Will Travel” fund opens for donations. The anticipated goal is $1600. Your pledges should be e-mailed to me AND my pal Rio, as he is the top dog in the fund drive, and will be making sure I will not be using any funds for Swedish Fish. Any Plunderer donation that hits one of the Magic numbers, will receive a shout-out on this here blog, and a 5×7 professional photo of our favorite team. Rio, if I’ve left anything out, I know you will correct me.

So, there you have it. As always, every little bit does help.

I want to thank youse guys for your spirit and generosity.

    PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) –
The Perry County Sheriff’s Office must replace a police dog after one of its canine officers was found dead in its handler’s car.

Napo, 3, a Belgian Malinois breed of dog, was discovered dead in the back of a patrol car after being left in the car overnight.

Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith says the cause of death is unknown, but the dog could have died of a heart attack or of heat exhaustion.

Smith says the handler has been re-assigned.

Napo was with the department for about a year-and-a-half and was purchased with donations from area businesses. The cost has not been disclosed, but similar dogs cost in the range of $5-$10,000.

The incident happened three weeks ago, but a tip from a viewer helped bring the story to light Thursday.

The dog can be seen on the Perry County Sheriff’s Facebook Page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Perry-County-Sheriffs-Department/197251873630610?fref=ts

Oh Mr.Tyb what a stupid stupid ‘handler.’ He is lucky not to be off the force. Reassigned indeed. sheesh.

O’Howlers still sending prayers for the young one. Glad the news is hopeful.

Twins lose in the bottom of the 10th to Cleveland.

TYB I read it. I seriously doubt that dog died of a heart attack. That officer should not be ever allowed to have another dog if he contributed in any way to the dog’s death.

Rio, I have a lot of hope placed in Arenado. GO ROCKIES!!

Gosh Macy, Now you know if we knew one way or another we would say. I certainly don’t know except Wolfie is in CA. Yikes. We are not shunning you. If Wolfie was near the fire he would let us know so we could quilt him up.

Have you heard from the parents off on their trip and leaving you alone? And you didn’t tell me how you were being staffed while they were gone now did you?

I am about to go to bed also so I will see your answer in the morning.

    Nighty noodle all youse guys.
