JFK And Clipper

“Here’s something,” says Bernie. “A woman named Margaret Reed is writing a book about the Kennedy family’s pets. Well, somebody had to do it, right, big guy?”

If Bernie says so, then that’s that. But just between you and me, I’ve watched a writer or two at work, and – there must be other jobs out there, let’s put it that way.

“JFK and his famly had nine dogs living with them in the White House. Just one living there now if that means anything.”

Hey! That would be Bo. I’m following this, no problem.

“There was Pushinka, a gift from Nikita Khrushchev, who had puppies in the White House, and Shannon, a cocker spaniel  from Eamon de Valera, and all these others. After the assassination, Jackie Kennedy kept Shannon but gave away all the others. Margaret Reed has tracked down what happened to every of them – except for a German shepherd named Clipper. Clipper was given to Jackie by Joe Kennedy, JFK’s father and not one of my favorite characters, on account of his behavior in the run-up to WWII.”

Oops. I stopped following.

“So Clipper’s fate is a mystery. Anybody know what happened to Clipper?”

    HEADLINES!

PUG FINDS MISSING GREAT GREAT . . . GRANDCHILDREN OF CLIPPER!

"I owe it all to myself, Rockie and his gang, and, oh, yeah, The Little Detective Agency," he said modestly. "But mostly it was me! me! me!"

The reporter added, "That's the first time I've ever seen a Pug skip."

Wolfie here, and now I'm NOT laughing right this second.

(whisper) A terrible thing has happened to me. Mom and dad fell asleep while I was Outside and I met this cute little black and white kitty with a big Fluffy tail, and, well, now I don't smell too good. I mean, my fur doesn't smell good.

    Any suggestions, anyone?

Oh, no, Wölfie (whispering back) sandelwood incense is good for the house. Some one on the blog talked about another method for dog coats.

You got to watch out for those black and white Kittys!

Wölfie's mom: Not sure if sandelwood oil would help with the coat.

    Good luck!

Was catching up on last night's posting . . Beauty contests?? Our interests are very varied! Giving a young child more self-confidence???

Right, so tell the impressionable child that for self-confidence you have to completely change yourself. Jeez.

Of course, I went completely the other way. My guys are pretty good-looking. I did not want them getting by with anything because of the way they looked. So I never mentioned their looks. I talked about their minds and their talents.

Hmmm. I then had guys who had NO IDEA that they were good looking. I'm NOT kidding!

There must be some sort of middle road here.

Wolfie, It can happen to the best of us…the skunk. It happened to me this summer. You can buy de-skunking products at the big box pet stores. Mom says that the best suggestion is to let a groomer deal with it. Mom knows a groomer who applies the tomato juice, and lets it set on the dog for 30 minutes and then BATH TIME!

When I got skunked, Melanie suggested sandlewood oil after the de-skunking process and bath. It helped even if I did smell like a hippie. Nothing will totally make the smell go away except time.

Humans take this more seriously than the nation within a nation does.

Hey everyone, Barb here!I am using my daughter's lap top, which is a little different from my home computer. No mouse!

I am feeling really good, tho a lttle tender on the right side. They did do the double, with lymph node removal on the right. I think that is going to be more of a challenge for awhile. Gus has been keeping me comfortable on the fold out sofa in the hearth room, which is helping with my doggie withdrawal.

I am so padded that I look like I am wearing a life jacket under my top. I can rest my chin on it! I am being waited on and pampered, which I could learn to like very easily. I will try to keep current on reading the blog today, and will be back later.

She thought it worked pretty well, and better and less messy than tomato juice. But for awhile, everyone around you will just need to get used to a hint of eau de skunk.

I was wondering about that surgery, too. I tried to take a nap after my last pain killer, but phone keeps ringing and then my son stopped over just long enough to give me a hug. Feeling pretty good, as long as I don't move too quickly.

Gus slept on the sofa bed for about 3 hours, had his dinky little Newf head resting on my legs for a good part of that time!

Always some excitement here – 4 year old Ben knocked a candy dish into the bottom of the fish bowl that had their Beta fish in it. Broke a hole in the glass and water came gushing all over the counter top, into the drawers below, and of course, the fish ended up flopping all over the floor. Luckily some water splashed into the candy dish, and Kelly was able to get the fish back into the water. Meantime, Ben is shricking at the top of his lungs "I killed my fish, I killed my fish". WOW!

MOHS surgery (Microscopically Controlled Excision of Skin Cancer.)

Only a few medical centers do it. It is done on the nose & it is skin cancer from the sun. Unfortunately on mine they had to do plastic surgery where they took out the cancer. They took some skin from my cheek. Not fun at all. My eyes are swollen, I can't breathe very well and can't open my mouth much. Sounds like I am a mess doesn't it… They say with time it will be lots better. Next week they take out stitches. I was lucky that they only had to do surgery once to get it out. Sometimes they have to do it 3 times before they get it all. Now I sure wish I was not out in the sun so much when I was younger. It looks bad now but I am sure it will get better with time…..

Stover, I hope you are feeling better. They have invented deskunking products. The only problem is that they don't work very well. Mom has tried the vinegar and water years ago. It works as well as anything else. Mom says that next time she wants to try Mollypop's suggestion. I DON"T THINK SO!

Drat!….Last night does not count, but boy oh boy would I like to slobber her up in Pug spit…heh!snort! …First she has to have an appropriate Avatar…cough!

Molly!…The 34 car pile-up you mean?…grunt!…She drives on a two lane highway and those other driver guys are wacked out every morning and evening, so she says…snort!…She will be okay. If not, who else will feed me?…hmmmm. Yeep!

Rio. I don't think so. Being skunked once was more than enough for me. In addition to the smell (which actually isn't that bad if you are dog, although my mom and dad weren't real keen about it) it also stings your eyes badly if you get a full facial like I did. There is only so much I would do for science, and this definitely crosses the line. Wookie

Wookie!…The answer is to NOT get a full facial shot…snort!…Just turn away at the critical moment…sniff!…If you are really against doing this, then I can’t think of anyone else for this scientific experiment….grunt!…We may have to rely on nature and wait till the next guy gets skunked for real…heh!…Which, of course will happen given due time…snort!

I like the butterfly! It shows up really good.

Goodnight Stover. I hope you get a good night's rest.

Smart boy, our Wookie, and he has a lot of hair. I didn't get skunked in the eyes like he did so I would be stupid enough to go after a skunk again.

Rio – We also have a bad 2-lane road coming from ski country. We don't have to travel at a set time like your friend does. That's hard. We used to have to do it like that and it was white knuckle for miles and miles. Mom would be on the phone with Sam's Mom in case of a problem, and Sam's Mom would say she had sunshine and blue sky while we would be in a white-out. It's scary.

Does your friend have an emergency bag packed and in the car?

None of you guys care anyways…so good night….dammit!…If you never hear from us again, it’s because the computer was turned off and she died in a pile-up on highway tomorrow morning….grump!…I will die gradually of starvation…yeep!…Good night everyone. Wolfie, did your Mom fall first and then have to have the cancer surgery (thanks for the explanation) or have the surgery and fall because she can't see too well with the swelling?

LizF, little Sammie is doing better…marginally. Mom actually brought him back home this evening. The vet is trying to help keep the cost down as well as treat the little fellow. He has regained alot of the use of his front legs, and has limited movement in the back legs. We have twice a day treatments for him and the vet even suggested physically holding him up and trying to get his legs moving. Considering where he was last Thursday, he is alot better. Just hope he continues to improve. Mom is going tomorrow to buy puppy piddle pads so he won't have to try to drag himself into the box. He does try to get over to it…this way he can just get to the front of it and have at it!! We think he may adtually be up on his feet by the weekend, although probably not real steady. Amazing stuff.

Night, all. Hope all of you under the weather (or just dealing with the weather) have a good day tomorrow. Stay strong.

I'm not sure what works for deskunking but I can tell you what doesn't work….and that is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Shudder….what a mess. Mom will try the whatever it is you call it tomorrow. (I don't know and I don't care. I just know that I don't like smelling myself!)
