Jet Plane
Uh-oh. Are we packing? There go my bowls into the duffel.
Makes me a little sad. But did I have fun or what? And will I ever forget the smell of an iguana? And what happened after? Not likely.

Morning Chet! It’s always a bit sad to start packing after a great time. Iguana? Those can be pretty big. Will love thinking about “. . . what happened after?”
10:12 am on January 2nd, 2011
Chet: My brother once had an iguana that I was “babysitting” for him (along with his other four pets). The iguana got out of his cage and jumped onto my back. I finally pulled him off and put him back in the cage. I still have the scars. Don’t know what he smelled like. What did happen “after”? Have a safe trip home.
10:22 am on January 2nd, 2011
Good morning Melanie and everyone.
I like Alice’s new avatar. She is beautiful and so are the ribbon and quilt.
10:24 am on January 2nd, 2011
Chet: I googled, “do iguanas bite” and got horrible pictures of sharp teeth and scar. Since you say you had a wonderful time, I am guessing that iguana did not bite you.
B. Stover: Ouch. No more babysitting iguanas.
Rio: Good thing you are not helping Spence pack. Instead of Chet’s bowls going in the suitcase, it might’ve been his bowels.
I’m off to the salt mines. Enjoy the day.
10:30 am on January 2nd, 2011
Chet, inquiring minds want to know what happened. Tell us, please.
Rio, tell your friend that her latest flower quilling project is really amazing; really beautiful.
We had a very nice New Years Day, with bagels and smoked salmon for breakfast (a long-standing tradition) and bayberry candles for good luck. Looks like 2011 is off to a really good start.

Have a safe trip home!!
10:47 am on January 2nd, 2011
“what happened after” stimulates the imagination. Perhaps we could submit our own ideas. That could be a hoot with the imagination of this group.
So glad that Chet’s bowels are not going in the duffel. I do not think that airport security would be amused.
10:55 am on January 2nd, 2011
Macy: That would give a whole new meaning to Pat Down.
B.Stover: OTAS had a series of iguanas. First was small and he, of course, let it out to play with and it went into the heating ducts. Was there for over a month. Was quite healthy when we caught it.
He took that one down to VA for the summer, but it died when he fed it crickets that had been sprayed with something toxic in a field.
The biggest one, Zeke 3 I think, had claws that were huge. He word heavy gloves when working with him.
My favorite memory of Zeke 3 was OTAS putting him in the Christmas tree. Zeke 3 climbed almost to the top and got mesmerized by his reflection in a glass ball.
When OTAS went away, Zeke 3 went to a pet store. (Thank dog)
Hi Dawson, bye Dawson.
11:53 am on January 2nd, 2011
When my boy was way younger, he had some small green creature. The family went away on a trip and Aunt Mollysmom said she would come over to feed it. Then she found out she had to go to the store to get fresh crickets. That was bad enough, but the worst was when this green thing had the cricket in its mouth and the legs were sticking out. Aunt Mollysmom said she would never do that again.

Hey!…Chet doesn’t have any trouble spelling that word…snort!…Why do I? Couch always gives me problems too. My bowls and the couch are my two favorite things in this house you’d think I could spell them correctly all the damn time…sniff!
I wonder if Chet has a run-in with an iguana in book 4. If he does, maybe we will find out what happens in about 9 freakin’ months from now…grunt!
Cold!… It’s way too cold here. I’m going back to my bed where its warm and toasty…snort!…And I don’t want to go outside again ever!…grumble!
12:06 pm on January 2nd, 2011
I totally agree with MollyPop’s mom, Sam.
12:13 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Chet, We would like to know what happened with the iguana. You didn’t mention needing to go the vet so you must have come out the winner.
Mom says it is way to cold here, too. Me, I’m going back outside.
12:14 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Good morning all, So far I don’t have a new avatar but staff says she is working on it.
Alice is far too proud of hers.
She keeps saying things like “Eyes are the windows to your bowl,”and muttering about being in control of Rio’s bow…whoops. Better not say. Alice is giving me the look.
12:15 pm on January 2nd, 2011
B – Your experience with the iguana is the stuff of nightmares!
12:39 pm on January 2nd, 2011
oh boy, big fun coming up, what with Alice controling Rio’s bo…oops I do not want to get into trouble with the scary Kat.
We only have girls here, and they do not like creepy-crawlies, thank dog.
12:43 pm on January 2nd, 2011
How about this one? I think my eyes can be fairly bossy too.
12:43 pm on January 2nd, 2011
How about this one? I think my eyes can be fairly bossy too.
Whoops. Hmmmm I wonder if Alice has some kind of mind meld on my eyes?
12:44 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Yes mr husky I heard it myself. But these huskies are from CONNECTICUT!? Can that be right?
From yesterday, on Huskies playing football.
12:44 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Aliccccccce. Let GO!
12:47 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Hey Mr Husky,
I wonder if you would like a link to the Jonathan Beargrease dog sled race in Duluth MN?
http://www.beargrease.com
Abbie seems upset about something. I better go check on her. She has climbed into a dresser drawer and is way in the back and she seems to be growling.
1:03 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Hey Staff: I hope the Kat fights are going okay.
I looked up the site. I’ll be following it! I think I’ll give the dinner a miss though.
Beargrease dinner?
Yuck.
1:03 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Stover!… Even Rod Serling couldn’t come up with that scary story…yeep!… My friend would have died of fright if something like that happened to her…gulp!
1:18 pm on January 2nd, 2011
OH! I have to go tell Abbie that it worked. Maybe she will come out of the drawer.
Mr Husky, I don’t think they serve bear grease. That was the name of the Mailman/musher that used to deliver the mail by dogsled. Mr. Beargrease. He was from the Anishinabe tribe and I am going to look that up….Oops, had to change one letter.
Did you notice two of the Vet Tech’s have huskies? (None as pretty as you though.)
1:19 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Hey! Yes! Thanks, Staff, for the link. I have heard of that race..it is the most well known one in the lower 48. Sometimes mushers and dogs that race in Alaska do the Beargrease.
1:39 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Looks like the gang will be back in Cape Cod tomorrow. Maybe they will get back on track with Astrid.
Barb is feeling very happy and organized. She has most of the decorations put away, and the Christmas closet looks very good.
Cold here today, but the terrible winds have stopped. She had to close off the sun room yesterday, because the french doors don’t fit as tightly as the should, and when the winds blow from the west, they blow right in that door. She needs to put up one of those big plastic storm windows or something. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Anyone make any resolutions that they want to share?
1:42 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Resolutions!… I resolve to watch every Rockies game this year and drink as much beer as I want and I don’t care who knows it…heh!
1:44 pm on January 2nd, 2011
More!… I also resolve to not cough, sneeze or fart when she is putting together the pieces of her projects…snort! …This has caused some friction in the past…sniff!
1:47 pm on January 2nd, 2011
OK I have marked the Beargrease on my calendar, and I will need ten bucks from mom so I can watch live streaming video of the race.
Staff, it was Melanie and not me that was commenting on beargrease for supper. I have known about that race for a long time, but I didn’t know till now how it got its name.
I did notice that two of the vet techs had huskies. I looked at the photos on the website, and thanks for the nice compliment.
1:50 pm on January 2nd, 2011
I resolve to come when mom calls me…hee hee
1:56 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Barb, Have you ever used that plastic liner that you put up and then use a hair dryer to shrink so it is tight? A lot of people use that up in North Dakota for windows that are not tight enough. You can’t open those windows or doors for the rest of the winter. We get ours at the Hardware Hank in a nearby town.
1:57 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Foiled!… Well, our well laid plans are foiled again by her mother…grunt!…We have to go out in the cold to go over to her house for lunch….snort!… If it wasn’t so cold I would love this plan, but just thinking about being outside is ruining lunch for me…sniff!
2:08 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Barb, My folks have used that plastic liner that Staff is talking about. It worked much better than they thought it would.
2:53 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Hardware Hank’s?
3:44 pm on January 2nd, 2011
You should have seen the other animals when I was standing there screaming with the iguana on my back. Sophia (Dalmatian), Maria and Jesse (cats) stood stock still in front of me as though they didn’t know what to do. Time stood still and they knew I was not acting normally. Even Max the parrot stopped chattering. We were all in shock except for Iggy the iguana (named for Iggy Pops, a favorite of my brother) who was trying to claw his way to freedom. The scars are on my left arm.
3:52 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Abbie: From what we’ve heard from Dawson, I’d say you are probably more bossy than Alice. You are both very beautiful.
4:16 pm on January 2nd, 2011
So many Alaskans are coming home from their Christmas vacations in Mexico and Hawaii that it is +20 right now and the forecast is to get up to +40. Unbelievable! It is only supposed to be those temps today. Too bad it is my last day of vacation. My vacation started two weeks ago at -40 and -30 which was too cold to do anything. Now I don’t have enough time to do everything I want to do. First I am going out on the flood plain with the dogs….
4:16 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Dammit!….My toes are froze!….grunt!…Leave me alone. Get that towel away from me…grump!…I resolve never to jump out of the car and into a snow drift again…sneeze! …I thought I could jump over it, but I landed right in the deepest part…snort!
4:47 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Yikes Rio! That sounds uncomfy on your underbits.
Melanie the story about Zeke 3 and the christmas ball is too cute.
5:21 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Dawson, Mom goes back to work tomorrow also. She has decided that it’s time for us to take a nap while the getting is good.
Careful, Rio!
Wookie, I didn’t know that bayberry candles are edible.
Bee – ouch. I hope that Chet fared better than you did. And I hope that your brother was very sorry.
5:24 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Does anybody remember when Rio posted his recap of the Astrid case?
My memory fails me…..I’m not sure I even remember who Astrid is but I want to be prepared in case Spence starts up again.
6:09 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Wolfie!… Someone else will have to re-post the re-cap….snort!…because I can’t find it anywhere….snuff!
6:22 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Wolfie: Rio posted the Astrid case on Dec. 14. Can you get to that post?

MagPie!….Tell Barb I was just a little off on the time it takes to make one of those flowers …heh!…She’s been working on one for a good 2 hours steady and is now at the final stage of gluing the 19 itty bitty bits together to make the center of the flower…snort!
Teebow!…I’ve been watching the Broncos play a whole game for the first time this season….snort!…I am very excited about this young quarterback they are finally letting play…gruff!….He is awesome!
6:37 pm on January 2nd, 2011
The 49ers are winning the game right now. I am glad Coach Singletary was fired aftr they lost the last game. Now they have to find a new GM and a new Coach for next year. Hopefully next year will be better than this year for them.
At least it was exciting to watch the Giants win this year.
6:40 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Sure hope all the travelers get back safely.
Chet and Bernie seem to have a clear shot over to the West. But, there is a storm coming up the coast again. This time it’s almost all rain.
Seems weird to have our January thaw the first part of January. Usually, it’s the 3rd or 4th week. And it certainly doesn’t get up into the 50’s like it did today.
6:41 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Ahem, The Patriots did rather well today.
6:59 pm on January 2nd, 2011
There is ice in the Rio Grande!! Woooeeee That doesn’t happen very often.
7:28 pm on January 2nd, 2011
It’s 19 here right now and yesterday it was 52. I think the cold weather is heading east.
7:30 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Thanks B.Stover . . . just what we need; ice from melting snow.
Congratulations Siber-H! Awesome.
7:45 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Ice!….Siberh is one crazy Husky…snort!… Imagine getting excited over ice….grunt!…That stuff kills you know!…sniff!
7:46 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Mom’s favorite for best insulation is bubble wrap. She uses the large bubble stuff from starboxes.com.
7:52 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Win!…No, the Broncos lost, but there is hope for next year…snort!…John Elway is going to be part of the management team…woooo!….Our interim coach is so cool, even his name is cool, Eric Studsville…heh!….What a guy. I sure hope they hire him as the Head Coach for next year…snorkel!
8:05 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Staff and Siber, Barb says thank you for the info. We don’t have a Hardware Hanks, but she says there are other stores that have those plastic storm window kits. We will try one. Does it take 2 people to put it up on a 6′ opening?
8:13 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Siber-H and Staff: I looked on the web site, no vet tech huskies that I could find. Where are they?
MollyPop: Maybe it was from your mom that I learned about bubble wrap as insulation. Has she mentioned it on the blog? Last year, I knew someone had talked about it. I bought some, then wetting the flat side put it up on a “bay” window, that isn’t, in the West Wing. It really helped. Zoë liked it so much she put in underneath cabinets in hidey holes near windows.
I couldn’t remember who told me, so I get thanking people and getting the weirdest looks.
8:14 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Riö: Is that really his name?
I can’t believe you didn’t get moderated on that.
8:25 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Barb, We will neeed Staff for a more definate answer, but I think it might take two people. Mollypop’s bubble wrap is sounding easier to put up. Mollypop or Melanie could tell you more about the bubblewrap.
8:34 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Melanie!….At first glance I thought you were questioning if Rio was my true name….snort!…Yes, it is, thank you very much. Then I realized you meant the interim coaches name….heh!… As far as I can remember when they were interviewing him on the news after the game, his name is Eric Studsville…nice!..And no I am not going to look it up, this damned slow computer…growl!
8:34 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Melanie, to find the vet team for the Beargrease…on the home page, click on musher registration, when that page comes up, click on vet team.
8:40 pm on January 2nd, 2011
I looked it up..It is Eric Studesville
Those sports websites can be slow to load.
Maybe there is hope for the Broncos
8:46 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Got it Siber-H. Thanks.
Staff is right. You are much better looking.
Especially with all your toys around you.
I’m trying to make the bed, but Patsy is completely out and doesn’t even lift her head when I call to her.
I’ll have to try later. Problem is I’m getting tired.
8:56 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Name!…A Studesville is still a Studsville by any other name…heh! …It might become the sweet smell of success…gruffle!
8:58 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Melanie!…What will you do if you cannot budge Patsy?…snort!…Sleep in the fireplace? …heh!
9:12 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Thanks Bee! I am going to do my homework so that I can be ready for the new installment of Astrid tomorrow. (Oh please oh please oh please……)
9:16 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Wolfie!…I never knew you were an extreme optimist…heh!
Kirby!…We are watching foodnetworks Worst Cooks show…snort!…This always makes my friend feel better about her cooking…grunt!
9:19 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Barb, It is always easier with two people. Even on a window. And you might not want to be stretching up too far yet. I remember trying to clean a window that was too tall for me when I had stitches (years ago not lately). It wasn’t a good idea, so be careful out there.
9:24 pm on January 2nd, 2011
I think the plastic storm window idea will work better for us than the bubble wrap. We should be able to attach it to the wood frame around the french door. The air comes in at the top and where the 2 sections meet. We tried stuffing cottom batting in the cracks, but yesterday the wind was blowing so hard it blew the batting back into the room.
9:33 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Rio – It’s my New Year’s resolution. The glass is half full. (If I tell myself that often enough then maybe I’ll believe it. Maybe.)
9:33 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Or maybe not.
9:38 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Melanie – I didn’t suggest bubble wrap, so no thanks to me.
Mom was looking up window insulation and bubblewrap appeared to be very good at that. So here’s Mom’s review having used both methods. Bubblewrap is a better insulator than the plastic window seal, but you can’t see out of it. Mom used two layers of big bubble bubblewrap and it still lets all the light in, but we would like to see out also. If the French doors or sliding glass dorrs need to be opened, bubblewrap can be hung there in sheets. Like Melanie said, bubblewrap is easy to put up – you just spray the window with water and it sticks.
Next year we will use it on some places, but not all.
9:46 pm on January 2nd, 2011
MagPie!…Aren’t you guys trying to sell your home?…grunt!…Wouldn’t bubble wrap hanging off your French doors be a bit of a red alert for potential buyers?…sniff!
9:56 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Rio – Tell your friend that she is a genius. Love the Astrid masterpiece. What a lot of work that was! Thank you.
Also. loved the mission story. Especially the part where Melanie and Bee scold Mike Baker. Can’t remember when I’ve laughed so much!
9:59 pm on January 2nd, 2011
And just for the record, I want to say that I do not like or trust Foster. FBI? Hah! Bullfeathers!
10:09 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Rio, You are right. The bubble wrap might not look very good to buyers. The plastic storm would probably look better. Beside, I am not sur how you would attach bubble wrap to the frame. You would have to use duct tape or something. It isn’t the glass that it is the problem, it is the doors themselves. Have had 2 carpenters look at it, and no one has fixed it so they fit right.
10:10 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Good night all.
10:16 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Night!…Stover!…Happy 2011 dreams…heh!
MagPie!…Molly up above said that Melanie said water is all you need to stick bubble wrap to your window panes…grunt!…Incredible but apparently true….snort!…I still think it would look tacky though..sniff!
10:21 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Barb & MagPie: The first few years in this drafty ancient house, my bedroom FROZE when the wind was from the Northwest. What I did was buy heavy wool and put it up on the outside wall (inside though, of course). I could watch the breeze blow the wool, but it contained it pretty well. Around 4 years ago we got new windows which helped, but there was still a breeze. When Jesse, our go to guy, redid my bedroom, the plaster fell away from the window. There was a gap of 8 inches by two feet at the top of the window where we could see the clapboard with all of its gaps.
Whew, no insulation there AT ALL. So Jesse did caulking and then bubble wrap. Then plastered over that. No more wind.
But, the wool, could be made to look nice, maybe that could help with your draft.
Or you could show the house only when the wind was from another direction.
Riö: saved from the fireplace (how’d you know I have a fireplace up here?) Patsy has moved. I’m going to make the bed.
Quickly . . .
10:23 pm on January 2nd, 2011
What happens when the water on the bubble wrap dries?
10:31 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Mystery!…Siberh, that is definitely a bubble wrap mystery…sniff!..I was wondering the same thing….grunt!
Melanie!… I was thinking of the downstairs fireplace that Bess used to sleep in….snorkel!…I really did not know you had a fireplace in your room, but how cool that you do!…heh!
10:33 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Rio you friend’s quilling is amazing! Such artistry and precision. Tell your friend that is way beyond me. Off to a nice warm bed for me and an open window for Wookie.
10:41 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Nitey, nite
Macy out.
10:42 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Hi Debbie LM!
Siber-H: I also used packing tape to stick it to each other.
Riö: It is cool. It also doesn’t work. Which is okay with me, because it would be just another draft. Before all the Newfs I had a rescue who was a rock hound. She would find the biggest stones she could fit in her mouth and carry them up the stairs and put them in the fireplace. I’ve added a few more in her memory.
She looked like a Min-Pin but she was 80 pounds. I got her at Christmas so I called her Clara. She loved bling.
10:46 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Debbie!… Or should I say, Ms Quilting Queen, you have more talent in your left pinkie finger than my friend has in her whole body…snort!….I know, because I have to live with her…dammit!…
PS:!….Tell Wookie he is crazy too!…sniff!…What’s with my Agents loving the cold freezing weather….grunt!… Maybe they should go North To Alaska!…wheeze!…Not me, I’m not going there. Not in a million Pug years…snuff!
10:51 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Aside to Riö (they’ve already gone up to North looking for the towers of chewies. Didn’t work out)
Now don’t put your friend down, Riö. She’s just starting and already beginning to change the directions to her satisfaction. Some people never can get away from the directions. She’s doing fine.
I’m off to sleep. This is the second night I’ve been up. Jeez. You’d think I was normal.
TTFN
10:52 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Good night, we are off to bed, too. Let’s hear a collective cheer for more Astrid tomorrow. We really thought the year would end with a solution to the Astrid story–year 2010, not 2011!
11:02 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Sweet bunny dreams to one and all.
11:17 pm on January 2nd, 2011
Me and the Kats are thinking about going up North.
Rio, Your friend is making super progress at quilling. We are enjoying the photos of her colorful work. Mom says they look like Spring.
Night All

Doorknobs!….Who the heck is still up tonight?…sniff!…Am I all alone already?…grumble!… She is no where near going to bed yet, or at least it seems that way to me….crumb!

As a blog reader, I am readily on the search for information that are both awesome and pleasing to read and I must say your blog passed with high honors. Many thanks for the enlightening content you have created! Will be coming back soon!

What can you say? Not every person has got the same views but it’s good to see a diverse range of ways of thinking about things, to put it crudely. Enables you to settle back and wonder about your own habits and preconceived thoughts occasionally.
