Jeopardy? My Word!
“You caught some Jeopardy between innings?” Spence says.
“I did,” says Admin. “It was Celebrity Jeop., and Tom Friedman of the NYT was on. You’d think someone like him, with presumably a lifetime of reading and writing in his favor, would do well with general knowledge and word manipulation.”
“Exactly. And Final Jeopardy, good grief. I can’t remember how it was phrased, but basically they wanted the name of the inventor whose product changed the south.”
“And none of the panelists knew! But for an American journalist to blank on Eli Whitney? I wonder what was going on in Alex Trebek’s mind. He likes a well-played game.”
“What’s your favorite of all the quiz shows ever?”
“My Word, by far. It was a BBC radio show but some public radio station up in ski country played the reruns and I listened whenever I was in range. My Word was a show that would have been a big hit in Stovernia. Frank Muir and Dennis Norden were great.
