“This sounds like fun,” Spence says. “It would be nice to see Jake in action someday.”
“But perhaps not his human companion, so much,” says Admin.

Lovely day here, flooding going down a little, but more rain this week.

Greetings!
Happy Earth Day!

Jake has a dream job!
New FOC today does have a happy face. Sequoia is beautiful and so is the name. Togo’s namesake is the real hero of the first Iditarod.
Hooray! Sesame, the facelifted dog, has found a forever home.
Earth Day…I am planting some columbine seeds.
Barb&Maggie: Seems you are living under a cloud. Or two.
Good morning all.
9:28 am on April 22nd, 2013
Love columbine, the state flower of Colorado.
Dawson, hope you have a good trip in to Chi-town. Are your sisters and the Turtleman coming too?
9:38 am on April 22nd, 2013
Hey! Nice way to start the day…with Jake the Diamond Dog…
And Spence going Back in Time.
9:43 am on April 22nd, 2013
Barb&Maggie: Turtleman and I will be the only ones going. Staff will stay here with Dad and ACattyLibrarian was here helping Staff just a couple weeks ago so she has work obligations she must fulfill at home in Montana.
9:44 am on April 22nd, 2013
Ha ha ha ha, can you imagine Chet as a batboy dog?

Happy Earth Day! Off to P.T.
10:23 am on April 22nd, 2013
A little chilly in the Pacific NW this morning, but it is shaping up to be a very nice day. If possible we’ll send some of these kool rays eastward.
Wolfie: There is a rumor we can look forward to some unique offerings in the upcoming summer auction. snicker.
CHH: Returning home from vacation is a shock to the system. You could use a couple of days to ease back into your routine.
11:26 am on April 22nd, 2013
We would love to see Jake in action at a ballgame. I bet Jake’s
helping out at a game increases the attendance figures for that game.
Good Morning All

We are all,
Breathing the same Air,
Drinking from the same Water,
Eating Food grown from the same Earth.

CHH: Glad you had a good trip, and are returned to the North Pole, safe and sound.
12:54 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Here’s hoping this week is a little less eventful than last week. We could use the break. BTW, did anyone have the feeling, especially Friday night while glued to the television, that they were watching a Peter Abraham’s thriller unfold, rather than something real?
On an entirely different subject, are people watching some of the really excellent shows on PBS recently. We are definitely enjoying Call the Midwife on Sunday nights. Mr. Selfridge is a bit soap-operaish and Jeremy Piven is clearly miscast in the lead, but it is still entertaining. We are also greatly enjoying two new mystery series now appearing — George Gently and DCI Banks. The latter in particular is quite good (although a bit gritty) and has brough to television the outstanding mystery series written by Peter Robinson, one of my favorite authors (after OFA, of course). Finally, the show last night called The Bletchley Circle, was also excellent, although we didn’t realize that it was the first of a three-parter.
1:04 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookie’s Dad: The Prof and I have seen several of the DCI Banks shows, and we’ve enjoyed them very much. The Prof has been reading through the series. We can’t seem to find it on the tv listings, though.
1:20 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookie’s Dad: Thank you for the recommendations. Midwife and Selfridge are on On Demand but I haven’t found the others. Perhaps they will be repeated this summer.
Who wrote the DCI Banks series?
1:25 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookie’s Dad: We saw a preview of Mr. Selfridge and agree that Jeremy Piven seemed to be miscast in the role. As we here love a good mystery, the DCI Banks series will be a show worth looking into…hopefully very soon. Thanks for the recommendations.
1:31 pm on April 22nd, 2013
In all the books mentioned we don’t remember seeing any by Elizabeth George. BBC made several (Insp. Linley?) She lives in Seattle area.
1:43 pm on April 22nd, 2013
B: Peter Robinson is the author of the DCI Banks series.
1:45 pm on April 22nd, 2013
B — The DCI Banks series is written by Peter Robinson. While born in the UK, I think he now lives primarily in Canada. They are very well written and I would highly, highly recommend the books in addition to the TV series. There are now about 20 books in the series, and while not absolutely essential, reading them in sequence can be helpful because of a lot of the professional and personal developments in his life that have unfolded throughout the series. BTW, the tv shows kind of start in the middle of the series and the episodes do take some liberties with the book that each episode is based on, but are still quite good. Right now Season 1 is airing in the U.S., while Season 2 has already aired in the UK (we have the Season 2 DVD but it is a Region-2 only DVD purchased from Amazon UK). Season 3 is reported in the works as well.
You also definitely need to track down Call the Midwife on On Demand — the writing and production are really excellent and quite moving. What is airing now is Season 2, with Season 1 having aired on PBS late last year (plus a Christmas special in the interim). The shows are based on a series of memoirs written by Jennifer Worth, who was a midwife in the East End of London in the 1950s. There are three books in the series, which received critical acclaim when first published several years ago and have all been reissued recently in conjunction with the TV series. Unfortunately, Ms. Worth died shortly before the first year series aired in the UK in 2011.
1:47 pm on April 22nd, 2013
I love the Elizabeth George series (Insp. Thomas Lynley).
1:50 pm on April 22nd, 2013
HoH — We really like the earlier books in the Lyndley series by Elizabeth George although the last two or three have suffered from poor editing (she has gotten a little too verbose). We were kind of disappointed with the tv rendition, not feeling that the performers truly captured the feel for the characters in the books, particularly in the case of Barbara Havers, although even for Lyndley as well. Her earlier books are truly amazing though, and I would definitely recommend those for anyone who loves a great mystery. For a while I would have put her on par with the true master (P.D. James), but as indicated, her more recent works have not been at that level.
1:50 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Thank you Rose and Wookie’s Dad. I’ll check this out.
2:57 pm on April 22nd, 2013
While I was enjoying myself in Vegas, my check to the IRS bounced! I had filed for an extension and sent in a nice estimated check as pre-payment to show them that I am not a tax-evading deadbeat. Ha, ha. Kind of ironic. Don’t know what happened as I have the money (and my bank card covered the shortage) but I’ll figure it out today and in the meantime I have transferred money from savings into checking. I haven’t bounced a check in 30 years and it had to be to the US government. Wonder what it will do to my credit rating which has always been sterling {{{{sigh}}}}
3:02 pm on April 22nd, 2013
C Hobbit– I wouldn’t worry too much; just remember the Feds not only have the ability to spend money they do not have all the time(deficit financing) but also to print more money whenever they need it, neither of which are available to mere mortal taxpayers.
3:50 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookie’s Dad: I agree with your comments about Elizabeth George’s books. I loved the earlier books and couldn’t get enough but then they stopped being engaging plus were way too long. If I am going to commit my time to a 700-page book, it better hold my attention especially if it is a mystery.
4:04 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Re: Elizabeth George – I loved the books until she killed off you-know-who, and I couldn’t finish the book published after that one, explaining why someone died. It was too depressing.
I’ve enjoyed Peter Robinson for years. I just discovered Ian Rankin and Val McDermid has been a favorite. Good old Scotland!
4:20 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Blizzard!…sniff!…My friend says it’s a bloody blizzard up where the busy-place is…grunt!…She also says she will be driving home early in about 15 minutes…yeep!…That highway will be a nightmare, so please say a quick drive-by prayer for her to get home so she can feed me…sniffle!…Now I am really worried – what if I do not get supper on time???…gasp!
4:22 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Bluecat: Re Elizabeth George, agree fully. I have not read Ian Rankin, although I know he has a strong following. Re Val McDermid, I think her book A Place of Execution is one of the absolute best mysteries I have ever read in my entire life, however I read a couple of her other books and they were not at quite the same level.
4:28 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Try not to worry, Riö. She’ll be okay. Most importantly, you’ll get your supper on time.
4:34 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Noaa says,
“Snow, mainly before 5am. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 29. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.”
GAH!
4:42 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Alice: Yeep!
4:53 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Rio: The word “Blizzard” in your last post is Flashing. Paws crossed that your friend has a safe trip home.
Alice: Gah. Please tell me Dawson and the Turtleman will not run into hazardous driving conditions on the road.
What the Hey is going on with the Weather?
5:27 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookie’s Dad – I just bought A Place of Execution on my Kindle.
5:27 pm on April 22nd, 2013

5:29 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Dawson and the Turtleman are not leaving until Saturday and things should be fine then.
The snow has started here.
Hope Rio is home safe.
5:59 pm on April 22nd, 2013

6:11 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Buuuurrrrp!…snort!…Someone is home! Someone is home!…chuffle!…She gave me and Beau some bacon treats. He was beside himself to see her so early. And now all is well with the world now…snuffle!
6:12 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Rose, Wookie’s Dad, Bluecat: TY. You reassured mom that her disapointment with the newest 4 George book isn’t solitary. Also she had a couple of new names to delve into.
Rio (et al): Mom got “Murder on the Iditarod Trail” today and is looking forward to it based on comments.Of course she will re-read Chet’s stories to us this summer just before the new one comes out.
We are really sorry about the lack of spring in some quarters 🙁 Our uncle in Niles, MI still calls to tell about 2 inches of white stuff that melts the next a.m. And the uncle in MN…well duh!
6:18 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Sharon!…Murder On the Iditarod is fun to read just because all of the checkpoints are so familiar…heh!…As to the mystery part it was well built-up…sniff!…I will say no more until after you read it. Then let me know what you thought of the ending…grunt!
6:22 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Mid-Wife!….I found “Call the Mid-Wife” ON DEMAND…sniff!…So we will be watching it tonight…heh!…Unless of course they actually play baseball tonight in the snow…sniff!
6:25 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wookies Paw!…You have successfully renewed our “Online Book Club” status by reviewing several books corresponding TV shows today. We made the deadline right under the wire…wheeze!
6:25 pm on April 22nd, 2013
We haven’t heard from Melanie or the Royals Mum today. I hope everything is okay with Leonard.
6:54 pm on April 22nd, 2013
RIO! I am glad that your friend arrived home early, and that you and Beau got yummy bacon treats.
7:03 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Yes, we need to hear from Melanie and Amalia. Sooner rather than later, please.
7:13 pm on April 22nd, 2013
OoooooOOOOooooh!….Melanie! Where fort art you?…sniff!
7:14 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Golinka!…Is probably at the Rehab watching Leonard compete in the hall-way High-Jump…snort!
7:45 pm on April 22nd, 2013
I am here. Or there. Where am I when you are reading . . here or there?
Which is about how I feel right now. I took Grace to the v e t early this morning and was telling one of them about the golinka poultice. He said, “Wow, I thought you had onions this morning!” This smell lasts for ever . .
Anywoof, Grace’s infection was less, but not gone. The v e t did a blood draw from the joint and has sent it out for culturing. Soooo, I should have to go back in 2 days to get the new antibiotic for little Gracie’s infection. The one she is on now is keeping it in check.
When I get into the v e t there is a Jack Russell bouncing off the walls. Not only is it a Jack Russell, it’s a puppy! Grace watched from a distance, but thought it was highly entertaining. There was also a hound. The hound was in for an operation on her ear. She also was entertaining. Those two went in the back, and the dogerwauling and howling shattered the quiet. When Grace went back, everything got very still. I don’t know what she said, but she definitely said she was in charge.
I’m zonked. Every day I think I’m going to rest I have to go somewhere. So tomorrow? I’m NOT resting. I am going to have a good time NOT resting.
7:47 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Golinka is at the rehab and might already be on the way back.
(B.Stover, what is the difference between already and all ready?)
She had to set up for a show on Friday, go to the show on Saturday, back up the show on Saturday, unpack Sunday morning, go see Leonard on Sunday, and then go again today.
She is tired.
7:50 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Golinka!…She needs a good rest on a warm soft bed with some baseball toys gathered around and under her …snorkel!
7:51 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Good Luck with that not resting Melanie. We (Dawson and I) were going to go to the post office tomorrow morning early and mail off some dog coats, but maybe we will wait a day. Sniff. Such weather!

7:57 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Wowser! The newf commercial is online now. Since mom limits tv here (except for weather and the old fart’s evenings, we’ve only seen it once before.

Commercial!..That Newfie commercial is not shown during the baseball game apparently….grunt!…We here have not seen it yet.
8:03 pm on April 22nd, 2013
I posed that we here at the kennel should say some pug prayers for the Storyteller and Golinka. I want the Storyteller to being feeling tip-top, and my Lady says the healing process can be harder on the caregiver. I took a poll at the kennel and everyone agrees—prayers! Leonard, the rescue not the Storyteller voted twice.
8:04 pm on April 22nd, 2013
I still haven’t seen it. Haven’t even found it on Youtube.
Riö, Dawson and Staff (nice double Dawson under two names by the way) please keep your weather there. I went outside and looked at the ground for Earth Day.
I thought about what to plant.
8:07 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Good idea, Junior!
8:11 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Melanie: I try to have at least one good idea a day. Sometimes I have two a day. Those are good days.

Gah!…That was me posting about the game. Beau is only concerned about the snack…sniff!

“Already” refers to time, usually “before.” “The envelopes were already mailed.”
“All ready” refers to number–the entire whatever. “The envelopes are all ready to be mailed.”

Well it looks like I returned home to a plumbing problem. Plumber coming tomorrow. I hate being a grown up! GAH!

Riö, sorry about the game. (Snickering) no really, I’m sorry. (Snort)
Beau, hope you get a treat.
Rose, have a good time watching your movie.
C. Hobitt, maybe you should be an apprentice to a plumber.
Whew, that’s all my brain could hold. I’m going to start taking notes.
Junior, Amen
10:13 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Creator,
We thank you for Leonard and Amalia. At this time, as Leonard heals we ask a blessing to be upon him that he will heal properly and quickly. Please guide as direct the medical professionals in his treatment. Please bless Amalia with calm and comfort as she watches over and cares for her husband.
Amen.
10:20 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Junior, Thank you for the prayer for Leonard, the man, and Amalia. I hope they are both getting the rest they need during this time.
Rio, The Twins play two games tomorrow for the same reason. Jeez!
We here think that is a good picture of Beau.
Going to bed now. Nighty noodle all youse and g’day to Liz.
10:35 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Hi youse guys.
Junior – thank you for the prayer. We are very happy to take any and all prayers we can get.
The Storyteller has hit a little bump in the road in his recovery. We know that there can be little setbacks in healing from such a big operation, but we are looking forward, rather than in reverse.
We still know for absolute sure that he is going to be well and strong, and that we just have to work thru the tough times and keep going. So that is what we are doing. Tomorrow will be better, and the day after that even better, and we will just keep going in that direction.
We’ll be here to check in whenever we have a minute. And thanks again for all your concern and support.
10:36 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Yeah, the same goes from us too.
10:38 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Golinka!…Get some rest tonight…snort!…You need to take care of yourself during this healing process, you know…wuffle!
Junior!…I did not know you were a praying-kind of guy…snort!…One day you will have to meet ole Beau…heh!
10:56 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Bear!…When you get time, will you explain to me the man who is Don Draper?…sniff!…I’ve lost the thread.

Snow!….It is supposed to snow all night long…grrrrump!…It is like the dead of winter right now again and again…growl!
11:09 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Rio: some might say I’m legious because I’ve yet to figure out how to do the re- part.
11:13 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Junior!…Religion is as religion does, but Faith is something entirely different and far more important….snort!
11:16 pm on April 22nd, 2013
Yawn!…Everyone here is tired, but we do not want to go up to our warm soft beds…sniff!…Because we know we will wake up to cold and more snow….grump!…My friend does not want to face another day at the busy-place. This is becoming unbearable to say the least…wuffle!…What will she do? I have no clue.
12:08 am on April 23rd, 2013
Rio: I had a talk with my lady. She explained religion isn’t the ability to make up scripture at one’s will as I was led to believe. I do like Thou Shalts like Thou Shalt give me tummies, but my lady explained I am a sled pug of faith more than a legious sled pug.
My lady had a long day with an early morning and a late night. She gets to do t all again tomorrow so nighty nutter butter.
12:14 am on April 23rd, 2013
Rio, it sounds as if your friend in the same mind set as mom is: too young to retire but old enough to be burnt out. She has worked for the same company for 32+ years. It is a great company but she is tired. Very tired. And she cannot retire for another 6 years. And if wants to maximize her retirement, it will be 9 years.
6:07 am on April 23rd, 2013
Bear: I was watching The Wizard of Oz.
Junior: Amen.
Belle Starr, Luna and I were snuggled under my special Oz quilt watching. Belle was mesmerized….it is a very sparkly movie.
9:20 am on April 23rd, 2013
Wose: We do agree. The Wizard of Oz is one Favorite Movie that can be enjoyed over and over and over again.
It is good to know Belle Starr and Luna are taking good care of you.
Rio! Regarding your question of last night and the mad man Don Draper. It is much too Early in the morning for Character Analysis! Ask me later when the brain fog has rolled back out to sea.

I am really impressed with your writing abilities as neatly as with the layout in your blog. Is that this a paid subject or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is uncommon to peer a nice weblog like this one these days..

How do you get the logo so perfect? Did you use a coikoe cutter or cut by hand with a knife? When I try to cut the fondant with a knife it drags the fondant or the sides are not smooth. Help please.
