“We’ve got issues,” Admin says. “Starting with the new coffee maker. New, yes; operable, no.”

“Meaning what?” says Spence.

“Meaning I now have to fight this hellish traffic into town on a coffee run.”

“So therefore?”

“Bernie handles the so therefores, but summing up: no post today.”

Welcome eager dude, Nick, Mikey.

Coffee shouldn’t be rocket science. Sorry there are issues but hmmmmm? Bickering two days in a row!

Gooood morning, everyone! Rio, thanks for tucking mom in, even if she was zzzzzzzzz ing. More rain expected here, temperatures down, mold up 🙁

Let’s all have a snappy Saturday (more FOC shout outs later.)

    Happy Day, Everyone!

I hope everyone enjoys their day. Today is going to be another hot, muggy day, which is okay with me; we need to dry out and it needs to be nice and warm so my friends and I can go crabbing tomorrow!

FDM – the Storyteller laughed at your post. He said Mama goes crabbing almost every day. Cold or hot, wet or dry. Very funny.

    Mama pinched him.

No coffee…no post. From mom’s point of view, that is very understandable. From my point of view, it is not. (just joking)

Rio, I tried to watch the game with you last night but the computer was never turned back on because a second storm rolled through. When I was watching the game, a downpour wiped out my satellite dish. I read about the Rockies game in my paper this morning. GAH

Hot and muggy here today, but I don’t believe muggy here is as bad as some of you experience.

    Good Morning All

Barb says she has to agree with Admin. Can’t start the day without two cups of dark French Roast coffee. None of that mild Breakfast Blend around this house.

Hot and dry here. No rain expected this weekend. Will have to water the garden.

    Hot, hot, hot again today!
After getting tummies from Grizz, Belle Starr woke me up in grand fashion, a jab to the eye and stomach, and a wonderful sparkly smooch. We snuggled with Grizz in the air conditioning. Today, I think we may do shopping for sparkly things.

Tenzing: Hope everything goes well, and that you will start to feel tip-top soon. Hugs, tummies, and head bumps from me and Grizz.

RIO! I care a great deal about you…I just can’t stay up that late. With all that talk of $1.04 chicken sandwiches at BK, I have a taste for their rib sandwich and sweet potato fries. Yum!

Wishing you all a good day!

B: Glass winged butterfly is booootiful! A question for the literate: the temperature difference (high to low in a day), is it diurnal??? dihedral??? Can you help? Today, whatever it is, here is 77* high to 71* low

Wow BStover what a fantastic butterfly! So far I have had no monarch butterflies, or eggs or caterpillars in my garden. This is a very bad year for Monarchs here.

  16. B. Stover
    1:25 pm on July 6th, 2013

Sharon: I’m not sure about the answer to your question. However, “diurnal” is from the Latin “diurnus” and means daily. “Dihedral” is new to me but it is a mathematical term meaning two-sided according to American Heritage Dictionary.

Bee – the Glass Wing is lovely. Do you know where they live?
We have had a number of Monarchs here – more then we ever remember.

It’s been a while since offering up any literary or video recommendations, so here goes some good ones.

First, for those baseball afficinados, I am currently reading a book called Bottom of the 33rd: Hope, Redemption and Baseball’s Longest Game by Dan Barry (2011), which in a literal sense is about the longest baseball game every played in America, which occurred on Easter Eve in 1981 between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings, but actually is about a lot more important things like the hopes, dreams and aspirations that have made America great. I would highly recommend it.

Also, we have recently discovered a new mystery series (apologies if anyone has already mentioned this on the blog) written by Donna Ball, and set in rural North Carolina with the protagonist a dog trainer named Raine Stockton and her golden retriever Cisco. There are now seven books in the series, plus one e-story, and are all very well written with characters that you can easily relate to. The first book in the series is Smoky Mountain Tracks. Definitely will bring a smile to your lips and a warm glow to your heart, and good mysteries too.

And now on to video. There is a great mystery series actually filmed in Australia and set in Melbourne in the 1020s called Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I don’t know if it has actually aired here in the U.S., although I suspect it may be on PBS next year, but the DVDs are available in the U.S. Incredible period piece with a range of interesting characters, led by the protagonist Miss Phryne Fisher. The plots are fairly complex, with a great mixture of humor and suspense, and Phryne is an incredibly liberated woman for her time. I guarantee once you watch one in the series, you will be hooked. The first year’s run was 13 episodes, and year two is now being filled in Australia. Also, if you haven’t seen it, the British mystery series Death in Paradise (which has been shown on PBS here) is also terrific, with a great touch of humor and involves a very rigid (but insightful) British inspector who is seconded to a Caribbean island police force with a very unusual mixture of characters comprising the police force there. It’s British stiff upper lip meeting Caribbean laid back relaxation/fun in the sun. A total of 16 episodes so far (years one and two), with year three now being filmed, but alas with a new male lead in year three (not sure how it will work, but the rest of the cast is so good that we will be willing to give it a shot).

We are at the vet waiting for the results of my blood work. I don’t mind the needle much, but what I don’t appreciate is that damned thermometer. I tried sitting on my Lady’s lap, but the vet tech found me anyway.

It was another long night of not feeling well. My Lady spent hours in the middle of the night cleaning up after what we’re officially calling and ‘episode.’ I slept through most of the cleaning activities, but I’m told she is going to town today to get more cleaning supplies. She says we don’t believe in doing anything half way. I like that about us. But, she said she would have appreciated me holding back on last night’s explosive episode.

  66. Tenzing
    12:34 am on July 7th, 2013

Mostly Medicated Tenzing, here. It was quite a day at the vet for many reasons. First, my blood work came back normal for me and my flare up. My condition flares up first in my mouth and then shows up in my eyes and then other parts. As a result, I’ve had to have several teeth removed already. Now, the vets want to remove morein the coming weeks as a prevenative measure. Not to worry, I tend to inhale my food rather than chew. The vet put me back on my eye medication as well. My Lady says I’m a good sport about all the medidation.

As the vet and my Lady were wrapping up the appointment—I was over it long before—I had an explosive episode right there in the exam room. It came out of no where. Nothing was safe. My Lady rushed me outside before rounds two and three hit. A la Chapter 22, as we were walking back into the vets office, the vet tech was walking out of the exam room with a mop and bucket. My Lady apologized again and again. My take on the whole thing is that my little demonstration in that there exam room is worth more than a thousand words. No doubt about it, the vet understands how bad the episodes have been first paw. As we waited for my prescriptions to be filled the vet came out to see me again like she couldn’t get enough of me—appartently, I made quite the impression. She started the conversation, “You know what really impressed me?” My Lady expected her to say something about the amount, distance or aim of my little episode, but she didn’t. “I’ve never seen someone with reflexes like you have.” She motioned to my mama. “You were out of the line of fire and had him out of the room in one motion.” Yep, that’s my mama. If dodging explosive episodes were an Olymic sport, she’d be a gold medalist. I’m so proud of her.

All in all, I’m going to be fine. Heavily medicated, but fine. I appreciate all your support and prayers for me and my Lady. My mama will be fine, too once she scrubs the floor one more time. As far as the vet and the vet tech, well, I think they might be scarred for life.

It was a very long day at the vet. Nighty noodles.
