The story was called The City (?) It was set in a Future Time where ants had taken over civilization. Dogs were able to talk, but Kats not so much.
Wish we could find that Book…it was a Classic.

B: Anything in the World is Possible. Heh.

O’Howlers: We have an old Farside desk calendar. Had we only known how valuable they would become we would have taken better care of it.

    Hey! my Avatar.
You can buy individual Farside books for cheap, but the Whole Collection costs over a hundred dollars.

Seriously, if anyone knows where we can find The City, please do tell. Unfortunately, Someone Here is not even sure of the name…NOT a good beginning to the search.

Going Back in Time to catch up on the posts then…Off to a Wonderfluffing appointment!

I suspect I’d mostly hear “I want what YOU’RE eating”, “I don’t want to go outside, it’s dark (or cold, or the wind is blowing)”, “Pet me NOW”, “I’m busy sleeping”, and “Ride in the car? Now? Now?”
But I’ll wait to see what I can find out from Sweden.
    Good day to all.

We know what we’re thinking, but for those of you who aren’t fluent in Thieve-ese, it is loosely translated as: Why can’t dog sledding collars be as cool as that spiked collar? Our ears are not far from where we wear our collars. Ever noticed that sometimes you didn’t even know you needed you ears scratched until the Giant scratches them. It’s like he can read our minds. Minds! Luna can read minds, too. Good rarely comes from her knowing what we are thinking. What were we talking about?

We have the whole collection of the Fas Side here at my house. The problem is that it belongs to Molly’s mom. My mommy gave it to her as a gift many years ago. When she sold her house and moved to ski country the collection came here to live. I hope she has forgotten about it so it can stay here.

Princess Sam, it might not have been a good idea to mention it on Chet’s Blog. Just saying.

Hmmm, let us not forget it is humans that are deciding which twitches and whatever they are measuring on the dogs mean.

If they did Newfoundlands thoughts would be “Does it need saving? Will it give me tummies? Can I eat it? If I splort, can I eat it again?”

    Hi Diane!

Looked up the “City”. Sounds good. There is a Kindle form but it seems to have been pirated and is now off the list. There is a Kindle of his greatest stories. None of which seem to be from “City”.

eBay has copies from cheap to over the hill. Though many of the over the hill priced bookies are actually the 1958 printing (you can tell from the jacket) and not the first printing of 1952.

Might have to pick up a cheap copy. I like the description of the book.

Diane, if you put up more than one picture and sometimes more than one link that happens.

    It also happens . .

If one mentions the things that one wears on one’s feet
    If one mentions s p e c i a l i s t

There are other things but I’m not remembering them right now. I usually remember after I have been moderated!

  31. Tupper and Gilly

    Morning(almost afternoon) everyone.

Diane C. – the moderator has definite fears about what might be a felonious post, or a post from a marketing company. Hence the moderation of the word s h o e s, or g a m b l I n g or c a s i n o plus many words dealing with medical stuff and a lot of words that we have NO idea why they are cause for landing in moderation jail. Sometimes, after the moderator actually READS the offending post, it is allowed to go through, but will show up in the actual time slot it was posted. Only you can see your own moderated post until then.
It happens to all if us. The usual response is to first say “curse you, moderator!”, and then look back on your post, see what word might be causing the trouble, change that word and try the post again.
    Good luck.

Mom is having to work too. She’s is used to that since the business she works at is a retail place. Her supervisor just couldn’t do that, you see.

They are great for walking around town but if I head to Anchorage with the possibility of standing around outside in the cold for hours I am considering some Helly Hansen insulated bib overalls. The old timers around here swear by them. I haven’t yet been able to find any with short enough legs.

Barb is back from her little shopping trip. Bought some holiday card and gift tags for next Christmas. She found the card that Hobbit and Staff sent this year, and liked is so much she bought a box at Hallmark. She will have to remember not to send that card to them next year!

I’m speaking as a skier who has skied in-20 temps. You must have two base layers. The first one can be smart wool or silk and will fit tightly to wick away moisture. The next layer, also snug, then gets heavier, from Hot Chilies (like I wear) up to expedition weight. This layer will also wick away any moisture therefore keeping you warmer. My layers are in black so at this point I look like a Navy Seal. After that, wear anything you want over it.

Wear ski mittens, not gloves. Make sure you have a glove liner, again to wick away moisture and keeping hands warm. I have at least one extra pair in my locker at Holiday Valley so I will bring it for anyone to use. My mittens have a slit on the back of the hand to hold a heat pack. I will bring a lot of heat packs.

RIO! I never realized earwax contained such interesting information! I did not know that mr? Gibson hailed from Peekskill . Peekskill is the town north of mine. Next time she goes to Boston, she could stop by. That would be cool.

Masquers, New Year will be celebrated back at home. We are in the little cabin until Monday. We will be refrigerator shopping. Ours is ready to be kicked to the curb. I only hope we don’t come back to a flood!

Oh! We forgot to mention mom’s patagonia “sweater”. She uses it as a coat here and it gets very very warm (too warm) on a very cold day. She is planning to wear that over hernormal sweater, which will be over her smart wool. Overtop of the patagonia will be her coverall,, which is rated for -30.

Ok, so she left before dinner and just got home – we still don’t think it’s fair. harumpfff

Maya is adorable. No wonder Beau is in love.

All your talk about warm clothes and layers makes us glad our Mama is staying home with us. With all those layers, she wouldn’t be able to move one leg in front of the other. And have we mentioned that she is not particularly fond of snow?

Melanie – glad you and your little sister are leaving on Sunday – smart move. Give Mama a call if you need hotel help.
