Is This A Democracy?

Spence and Admin are kind of scrapping today. I don’t mean throwing down. You wouldn’t want to see that – they’re not big guys like me and Bernie, and probably wouldn’t do that well up against, say, Jocko Cochrane. Oops, maybe shouldn’t be mentioning old Jocko. Which maybe brings us to this scrapping between Spence and Admin. It’s all about some biopsy, whatever that is. Spence says lots of readers are worried about the biopsy so why not post some scene from book 3 that clears everything up. Admin says, “Is this suspense or not? In suspense there’s supposed to be suspense, which means no peeking.”

Bernie gets tired of the scrapping and says, “Why not ask the readers? See what they want – post or no post.”

All right, I’m asking.

I am hoping the biopsy turns out well. I want more of Chet and Bernie. Yes, I know we have the third one (need to find some short cut on whatever the title is) coming up this year. Whew.

But to know?? Hmm. I put my name in as undecided.

Oh Admin, have a heart! All of us here at Chet the Dog love suspense of course, but can you go with Spense's idea just this once? Pleeeease! We are so worried about Chet. Me and I think it's Mac also had to go through the same thing, and all my pals here were pretty worried too. Can we all agree we won't ask for anything else? What say you team Chet!?

Of course, if you want to put it in, that's quite alright with the Newfs!

Set-up!….mmmm….everyone here knows exactly where I stand. Listen Agents, Spence is on the verge of spilling some important beans. I say, knock yourself out little man. Although I have a feeling Admin will be doing that for you.

Cosmo!… I was there before I came here….I just thought we needed to stand back and look at the big picture, like Bernie does, and have some clarification on what our mission is.

How long before the new book comes out? If we only have to wait a few months, we might be okay. But part of that is because we KNOW that Chet has to be okay, after all, he's the author of the stories. BUT if Spence can overrule Admin this one time, it would be nice to find out all the skinny.

And Cosmo is right, we were on pins & needles until we got the good news on his condition.

Melanie!… I like your idea of a new name for #3. Maybe what we need is a good brain storming session over a new name while we are waiting for the beans to spill. Who knows, Spence might be up for a little guidance in this area, although it sounds like the wind could blow him all over the place…I digress.. Didn't you say the "other" name that no one can remember, is not set in stone??

It's 26 and windy here, Mom is procrastincating going for our walk, so she said she'd type all the stuff I wanted to say now:

GUS & BB, Spencer said the new book will be out sometime this year, no specific month, so I think we'll have enough suspense just for that!

RIO, sounds like a good plan man! The maybe title for #3 is "To Bark, Perchance to Bite".

MOLLYPOP, you are quite sneaky, I love your moxie taking over the computer like that – I'll have to try it next time the pack is out!

    S. HUSKY, Mom searched everywhere (Amazon, S & S, etc.) for Spencer's other titles and only the Chet & Bernie titles came up, how did you find them?

SADIE, thanks for your nice comments about my Dad, he was really lucky to be safe and only be in the Navy for four years. Hats off and tailwags to your Grandpa & GG, wow – the two big ones, they were really brave!

REBECCA, We were so happy to hear that Henry is OK now, he must've felt lousy. Thanks for the info. too, I've been tempted many a time by deer droppings, now I know why Mom won't let me at them!

When you guys get a chance, check out this link, big AKC/Eukanuba show coming this weekend – love that bulldog!

I dunno. I mean, yes we want to know, but some things are worth waiting for. We had to wait for all of that time between books one and two for Bernie to even get the message that the groomer found a lump… I think if Spence wants to post that info here, he should post it as black text instead of white text, offset, so that people who want a spoiler can highlight it, and those of us who'd prefer to learn the answer in good time, when book three comes out, can learn it that way. That's how they always handled discussion of spoilers on the Firefly boards, back when I was still on there all the time.

My vote is….don't reveal. I have been known to flip to the last page of a book not to find out "who did it" but to see if a certain character is still alive at the end of the story. I usually regret being so impatient as the suspense is lost along with some of my reading pleasure. Thanks for asking though!

P.S. Once I was reading at an airport and a mother and daughter saw me flip to the last page. The mother told her daughter that I was cheating!

I do think, as a side note, that the way in which the lump was found suggests Chet has very shaggy hair. After all, Bernie would have noticed something if it could be detected by the eyes– after all, he is a detective, and quite a good one, if a little limited in the olfactory sense.

I just finished "Thereby Hangs a Tail" and I'm very concerned about Chet. I don't think I can wait for the next book to find out the results of Chet's biopsy.

Names!… Don’t get me wrong Spence the name you’ve come up with is very clever. I just need something to do while you type out the decision.

BrainStorm!….“O, What Dog Dare do!"…mmmmm….. maybe “O, What Dog Dare Bite!” I like the Biting part…

Nice brainstorming Rio! Mom has a question…she just popped over to facebook for a minute and her artist friend posted this:

"Should I make my woodcut print of a Pug named Beau with his tongue in or out? What do you think??"

We said "out" what do you guys think?

Also, everyone else made some good points about to reveal or not to reveal (hah, more Shakespeare-esque), so we now say "whatever"!

Cosmo!… mmmm…most Pugs don’t go around with their tongues sticking out. The only exception is my one pal, let’s just call him Balloon Butt, he lost all his front teeth in a biker bar one time when he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So his tongue hangs out all the time….

Cosmo-Put Barnes & Noble mystery book club in your search engine.

You will find the answer to your question in those topics that are about Spencer Quinn. Mom says it is probably ok to spill the beans like this because, hey, Chet's books have led us to more books that we can be throughly entertained by.

About the topic of today's blog–Admin is obviously not a dog lover. Does Admin know he can be replaced?

I was so upset I couldn't even chase a fuzz-butt until I knew Secret Agent Cos was okay. But I'm thinking Chet is okay since that Spence guy knows what side his bread is buttered on.

I made friends with a really nice pug in the petstore the other day. His mom said that he only liked big dogs and had no use for small dogs. Since we are doing an unscientific survey here, his tongue wasn't sticking out.

Hooray, I got my business cards today.

My they are real quality cards. I am impressed. The staff was quite impressed too. She said she would be proud to carry one around. She is using one as a bookmark and planning to take the two others around to some small independent bookstores she goes to.

I vote for not telling us ahead of time. We all know that Spence will never hurt Chet. After all, who would tell us the story? And is Chet worried? No he is not. I say we all take a step back, relax, and let Spence get on with it.

Although he can tease us if he wants.

I like the title To Bark, Perchance to Bite. It describes Chet perfectly.

A Bark in Time (saves Nine?)

To Bite or not to Bite (t'is the question)

Semper Bite – Just because it seems to me we will be meeting some marines in book Three. I couldn't think of any Caribbean dog Titles.

Siber-H!…I told you! No tongue. mmmm…sounds like you met a real Pug today. Was his name FU? I bet it was FU! Wish I could meet that guy, I bet we’d be pals.

I'm starting to think that Spence is going to make us all wait till tomorrow. Another disturbing thought is that he completely forgot everything again and doesn't know where he is right now. hmmm….

Henry went to his new home this evening. He was very happy to see his new people– he remembered them and was thrilled to be able to jump up on them again… and again. They took him home to their other dog, a cute black lab mix, on the slender side, named Newt. She has those toes that look like she stepped in white paint, just at the tips. She's a bit reserved, but you can tell underneath there's a mischievous quality that's feisty and wonderful. They're a perfect match.

Henry went with a partial bag of food to mix in with whatever they feed, some treats to help him remember to come in when it's time, his meds, and the instructions that came from the vet. He looked smashing in his new collar, and the whole family will be home for a long weekend to help him get acclimated. All of the reference calls went well, and I think he'll be very happy.

I just hope he doesn't mark their sofa again… šŸ˜‰

Please post. I have been worried about this issue since the first book. Spence does such a great job creating suspense with the main plot of each book, I really don't feel it's necessary to create more tension with the state of Chet's health. This just hits too hard … please tell … I'm begging you …

I'm on who didn't like the idea of the biopsy storyline AT ALL but as for whether to post an excerpt from book #3 to let people know what's going to happen, I say wait for the book to come out. šŸ™‚

Don't hurt Chet!!! My mom says too many stories end with kissing the dog goodbye! She will definitely look at the last page to see if he is OK before she reads the next book. (She was a mess after Marley and me!)I cannot go through that again!
