Irene Cleanup

“Leaf blower?” says Spence.

“Yup,” says Admin.

“Rakes?”

“Yup.”

“Wheelbarrow?”

“Yup.”

“Willing workers?”

“Nope.”

“Then let’s get started.”

Three days left to become a Friend of Chet before the Friend of the Month contest. Winner’s photo is displayed in the special place over on the right, and winner’s human companion gets a signed copy of the most recent Chet and Bernie book.

Our apologies for the blog bug. The relevant people have been alerted and things will be back to normal soon.

Oh no, it’s still with us. Bummer.

Well, at least everyone seems to have made it thru the storm. Wonder if Melanie and crew have started their clean up? How is everyone else this beautiful morning?

Good morning all! Glad to see that it’s just wheelbarrows, rakes and leaf blowers!

Did a quick check of our river area. Can’t see the one bank behind the house. That will mean the river needs to be completely down and wearing waterproof hiking boots.

Down by the gate to the river, the lawn has 3 inches of sand on it. I went down to look at the retaining wall (stone left over from an old dam). The wall is still standing, some digging out at the bottom, but not bad. The river had dropped 3 feet of sand there. So we now have a sand beach that has a two foot drop to the water.

The river is still as high as when we have a bad storm. All the water has now moved down to where The Royals live. (You’re welcome).

The Pack has finally waken up! They are now barking like craze because they know something is different.

The sun is shining, it’s 61!

I took Dan for a road ride up the river. Fascinating to see what the river did. We would have been unable to get up the road during the storm. Trees down, stuff all over the road. Yup, we may have had flooding, but it could have been a lot worse.

Must be all the Plunderers’ good thoughts and prayers!

HI everybody. Well, good news on one front. I had my second post-chemo checkup today and everything was fine. The lymph nodes were normal and they did not even feel a need to check blood values, although they will probably do that again on my next checkup in October.

Bad news on another front though. It sounds like Woodstock, Vermont, got hit really badly from the flooding from Irene; indeed one of the old covered bridges across the Ottauquechee River outside of town was swept away. We were not able to go to Vermont this year anyway for other reasons, but it is one of our favorite places.

Rio, be sue to check your real mail today, there should be something there for you.

    Hello all!
We haven’t had any time on the computer all day today, and now its our bedtime.
But we just have to give a Great Big WOO HOO for Wookie! Wonderful news on your checkup.
We are sad also about the covered bridges in Vermont being washed away. We love covered bridges. Our township has 2 of them. One was out of commission for 10 years. When it was finally reopened, we had a really really big festival, and we have that same festival every year since. So, you see, we have an affinity for covered bridges. We can’t imagine what the people in Woodstock or Rockingham must be going thru seeing their beloved bridges gone.

    11:42 pm on August 29th, 2011

Rebecca – we are absolutely from different planets! You think 10 to 30 degrees is “warmish”. We think that we would prefer laying on a beach in about 85 to 95 degrees.
We think that we would freeze our little tails off in Alaska.
