Independent Book Sellers
“I hear last night at the Scholastic party in Pasadena was all about indie book stores,” Admin says.
“That’s right,” says Spence.
“Did you speak?”
“Briefly.”
“Anyone throw anything?”
“Not that I saw.”
“Nice people, the indies.”
“What does that mean?”

This year’s Pulitzer Prize for fiction has gone to Anthony Doerr for his novel, All the Light We Cannot See. I haven’t read it yet.
12:03 pm on April 21st, 2015
I wonder is Spence is still in sunny CA. Maybe that is why he posted late. After all, it was only 8:19 there. Glad nobody threw anything, expecially not tomatoes!
What is a Gotcha Day?
Oh, and we thought being called Sweetie was nice, too.
At work, so may not post till later.
12:14 pm on April 21st, 2015
Zeus, what is happening with you?
All the Light We Cannot see has been a book I have considered reading. It has been on the bestseller lists for a long time.

I bet that’s the day Zeus was gotten.

Gootcha Day is the term Rescuers use for the day they got us, thereby saving them from a life of monotony.
2:46 pm on April 21st, 2015
Greetings one and all – again. On the right day.
Just had brunch with friends visiting from Maine. They were saying that it is warmer up there, with more green than it is here.
waaaaaahhhhh!

6:26 pm on April 21st, 2015
Question for all of youse – if someone wanted to dress up as a 60’s hippy chick, what would you expect them to be wearing?
6:32 pm on April 21st, 2015
T&G, Wondering who the someone is…Hope this helps.

Tupper!…One word – Tie Dye….snort!
6:51 pm on April 21st, 2015
Yes, tie dye, minis, high boots. Bouffant hair.
6:55 pm on April 21st, 2015
Lots of paisley!
Cover of “Scents and Sensibility” up top!
7:09 pm on April 21st, 2015
I was a 60βs hippy chick. I had long dark brown hair parted in the middle. I set it on rollers the size of beer cans. I wore bell bottoms and made Mary Quant dresses. After JFK I copied the Chanel suit Jackie was wearing, just because it was so beautiful.
7:16 pm on April 21st, 2015
We were all so independent in the very same way.
7:39 pm on April 21st, 2015
MP&M’s mom,We saw Sonny and Cher at the Long Beach Auditorium and thought we were the top dogs. Go figgure!
7:49 pm on April 21st, 2015
Don’t forget the beads and the colored glasses.
7:55 pm on April 21st, 2015
We’re thinking mini skirt or bell bottoms, vest with long fringe, bell sleeve paisley shirt, headband, and a daisy painted on her cheek.
Hmmm….wonder if we will ever see a picture of a modern day hippie chick posted on this here blog.
8:22 pm on April 21st, 2015
Tupper!….I’m thinking probably not…snort!…All those old faded polaroids….grunt!….Makes me glad I am a 21st Century guy…wheeze!
8:28 pm on April 21st, 2015
Long straight hair, NO makeup, denim bell bottoms, a flowing top rather than a fitted one.
8:31 pm on April 21st, 2015
Yeah, Barb doesn’t have any of those 50 year old pictures either. At least not that she is admitting. Or are you looking for someone who is a hippie now?
8:36 pm on April 21st, 2015
Siber-Maw!…So nothing has really changed but the length of your hair….snort!
8:37 pm on April 21st, 2015
Barb!…Remind me again about the advantages of keeping rabbits in the house…snort!…I’m sure Maggie had her reasons…chuffle!
8:55 pm on April 21st, 2015
Rio, Oh dog. I am stuck in the sixties, except I don’t wear bell bottoms.
I have better things to do with my life than put on makeup. I will leave that to the Sibers.
9:05 pm on April 21st, 2015
Siber-Maw!…chorkel!….And that is why we here love youse….chuffel!….Are you going to watch the game? Don’t tell me you have better things to do!…yeeep!
9:06 pm on April 21st, 2015
My mom never wears makeup. It must be a Siber mom sort of thing.
9:09 pm on April 21st, 2015
And Bob Dylan, “Don’t trust anyone over thirty.”
9:18 pm on April 21st, 2015
Rio, Yep, I am watching the game. I love that area in Coors Field where they have the spruce trees and the bubbling water.
9:18 pm on April 21st, 2015
Just ordered 3 copies of Woof. One for Barb, and two for gifts. Can’t wait to get them!
Rio, Reluctant to say this after a couple of bloggers said they had pet rabbits. Maggie Collins is a fictional character in The Sweetheart Season. She writes columns giving household advice during the 1940s. Sort of a Betty Crocker/Heloise type. Anyway she says “Contrary to common knowledge, rabbits can be housebroken. And then after you eat them, you can use their pelts to make a nice coat”. Yikes! That was heartless!
9:23 pm on April 21st, 2015
HA!…snort!….That Maggie! She was a humdinger! It was all about recipes and house cleaning with that gal…heh!heh!…Barb, where about are you in the story (without giving too much away..hee!)…chuffle!
9:27 pm on April 21st, 2015
Not very far. Not much time the last couple of days. Irini has just served a meaty dinner to the vegetarian guest at the Collin’s house.
9:38 pm on April 21st, 2015
Irini!….Just love her and her big strong arm – I know exactly where you are in the story…heh!heh!…Here is one you will come upon “later”…snort!..(I hope turtle-man is not reading tonight)… A Maggie Collins Recipe: SNAPPING TURTLE PIE A LA SHIVERING TREES – Step One: Let the turtle bite a sturdy stick and then slowly pull the head forward. Cut it off….grunt!…Maggie is full of helpful kitchen tips…heh!
9:43 pm on April 21st, 2015
Hi everybody, long time no type.
I just want to set the record straight. Mom giggles when Gary calls her sweetie, so I don’t think she finds it nauseating. I myself have found him to be quite unobjectionable, and a fairly good petter. He likes me best because I don’t pounce all over him.
9:46 pm on April 21st, 2015
Macy! Watch it. That Gary is a c-a-t guy. {shudder}
9:47 pm on April 21st, 2015
Rio, Will be on the lookout for that one. Reminds me of an agent that Barb used to see at lunch meetings. He would tell the waitress “turtle soup and make it snappy”. Surprising how often the waitress would say “Sorry, we don’t have turtle soup”, totally missing the joke.
9:49 pm on April 21st, 2015
Macy, I am reassured to hear that you approve of Gary. I trust the judgment of dogs above all others.
9:53 pm on April 21st, 2015
G-Man!…I am also relieved that guy ML is hanging with has approval of the pack…grunt!…I always worry a guy who shows up out of the blu is only after all someone’s money…sniff!
9:55 pm on April 21st, 2015
Snappy!…horkel!…Barb, who in their right mind eats turtle soup?…gah!spit!…The shell alone makes me ponder the wisdom of such a thing…yeeep!
9:58 pm on April 21st, 2015
Macy, Tell ML to enjoy the new happiness, but also to take it SLOW. No need to rush.
10:01 pm on April 21st, 2015
Rio, Not sure there is such a thing as turtle soup.
Night all.
10:01 pm on April 21st, 2015
OK, we admit to not only wearing makeup, but also to eating meat. But to eat a pet bunny? Not going to happen.
We even admit to getting a flutter when we get meat from the farm when we knew the animal in person.
10:06 pm on April 21st, 2015
Vegetarian!…Someone, not me, could go vegetarian very easily….sniff!…Her heart aches over the animals, not me, who feed this evil world…groan! …Her mother and me love meat!meat!meat!….gurgle!….Now I am making myself a little sick….burp!
10:11 pm on April 21st, 2015
WOOF!…On a brighter note, WOOF! comes out a week from now. …Woooo!…Guess what I got for my long extended birthday? A beloved gift card for Amazon!…Zow!…I will be able to get Woof! after all is said and done no matter what…chuffle!
10:12 pm on April 21st, 2015
Don’t need to know the pedigree. Sometimes “free range” is “TMI”. Nighty night.
10:23 pm on April 21st, 2015
Stover!…Did you get the opportunity to start catching up on Allegiance?…grunt!…That is a really hard word to spell right by golly. I guess true Allegiance is also very hard to come by…grunt!
10:25 pm on April 21st, 2015
Soup!…Barb I have heard of Turtle Soup before, many times as a matter of fact….snort!…I am sure there is such a thing as Turtle Soup much to the chagrin of Staff’s TurtleMan…yikes!
10:52 pm on April 21st, 2015
Tupper’s Mama: regarding the clothes of the sixties… Remember peasant blouses? Straight hair parted in the middle. No bra!
10:52 pm on April 21st, 2015
Yup, turtle soup is real. A Cajun specialty.
We think we will pass.
10:55 pm on April 21st, 2015
Martha – we loved our peasant blouses. Had a full wardrobe of colors. But never did the “feeling free” thing. There are some things that are just not to be contemplated.
10:57 pm on April 21st, 2015
ML: We are happy to offer dating advice if you need it. Whatever you do, don’t take dating advice from Luna. She has a very strange theory about how puppies are made. She even has flip charts to illustrate her theory. You’ve been warned.
11:02 pm on April 21st, 2015
Golinka!…Heh!…snuffling out loud here right now. Freedom comes in many ways. I feel free when I can do my duty with no one following me with a little baggie….gah!…I feel free when I can sleep in my warm soft bed without someone, namely Beau, snuffling around for his lost toys….grump!…If they are in my warm soft bed, they are MINE…growl!
11:03 pm on April 21st, 2015
Thieves – we know where puppies come from.
They come from Rescue.
11:04 pm on April 21st, 2015
Rio – freedom means shedding where ever we want to
11:05 pm on April 21st, 2015
Flip!…Charts!…I would be one to say I am willing to endure Luna’s flippy charts for the sake of knowledge…heh!heh!
11:16 pm on April 21st, 2015
Night!…Well someone who was not feeling well at the busy-place is still not feeling all that well here at the not-busy-place…sniff!…So we are leaving the baseball game and this exciting blog converse right now….grunt! …Goodnight all!.
11:23 pm on April 21st, 2015
G’night Rio. G’night, family.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
11:40 pm on April 21st, 2015
According to Luna, we stayed still, slack jawed and staring at the flip charts into the night and well into the next morning after she explained her theory. Then we realized that either it was a prank or Luna is a closet fan of science fiction. She also says we didn’t blink for quite some time. We think she’s adding color.
8:36 am on April 22nd, 2015
Turtle soup, just for Rio.
8:44 am on April 22nd, 2015
Ahem. Let’s try this again…
Rio, this is just for you…I hope this does not show up in your food bowl someday. Although it could be worse…like moose head stew.
I just finished eating a bowl of Fruit Loops. I think I may splort in glorious, living color.
8:52 am on April 22nd, 2015
AAARRRRGGGHHH, RIO!
Now I will shut up for the rest of the day.
http://www.foodrepublic.com/2012/12/04/classic-turtle-soup-recipe

We will pass on the turtle soup too.
Now MOUSE soup, seasoned with katnip – that we could get behind!
