“Anything to say about Lance Armsrtong?” says Admin. “Besides the obvious fact that the backroom chemists and shady doctors won’t pause for a second in their quest to make better PEDs and masking agents?”
“Riding a bike is fun,” Spence says. “And the bicycle is a great invention.”
Welcome trucking dude, Sadie. Lady – please retry.

I’d have to suggest that sports, “competition,” and the male ego are somehow involved. (It ultimately has to do with the male’s jealousy of the female’s ability to give birth…but you don’t want me to go into that.)
Good morning all.
9:33 am on January 19th, 2013
We lost computer and tv for 6 hours from 4:00 to 10:00 last night. Some major Comcast problem in the area. So now we have to go back and see what we missed.
We agree that bicycles are the best! Before Josh and Jess bought the bkie shop we had no idea that one could spend as much on a bike as a car. Not a brand new car, of course, but they have sold a bike for as much as $6,000. Good, healthy, eco-friendly trend for an inactive population.
Lance, well we already commented on that low life.
I know we are not supposed to talk politics, but think this one is safe. We LOVE the FLOTUS,s new bangs!

Read the posts from last night. Regarding a meet and greet, we probably would not plan on attending this October, but could next May, 2014. Barb is required to attend an relative’s wedding in November in Dallas, which will shoot the travel budget. 35 year old nephew, the perpetual bachlor, is finally tying the knot in a big shing-dig. UTC chapel I think. Hey, don’t G & B live near there? And how far away is Macy?
Melanie, re: eating better. Just had a gluten free cream of mushroom soup that was really good. Cafe brand, made by Healthy Valley I believe. 110 calories per serving. 1/2 can with a half sandwich would make a nice lunch.

Where is everyone?
Any comments on the strange Teo’s romance with the imaginary girlfirnd of two years?
We are off for some shopping and errands. BBL

We here are broken-hearted about the Te’o story, although he says he was not part of the dupe. We believe him, at least for now.
On the vacation front, WE WON!!!! We outvoted the rents 3-2 and we are going to Barkwells in late August!!!!! We have never ever been on vacation (away) and there are tons of hikes to do in those mountains. The rents are sure we will spend all our energy during the days, so they can wine and dine in Ashville and Hendersonville at night. We’ll see about that.

Greetings All!
Today is the big steak and steak dinner for the Prof! Yum!
11:24 am on January 19th, 2013
Melanie, what is the 411 on Zoe and YSAS?
11:37 am on January 19th, 2013
Wose, Here’s to the Prof’s birtday steak dinner!
11:43 am on January 19th, 2013
Howlers – Barkwells sounds like it is going to be fun for the ‘rents and you too. We have friends that live in Hendersonville, and we have been there to see them. What a beautiful area that is – especially in the summer.
Bee – we are all on the same page with you re “sports”. In our local area, we have had a recent event that hit national news of shame. A high school basketball coach told one of his second string players to go into the game and deliberately knock down the other teams’ coach who was on the sidelines. This big, dumb kid did as he was told and barreled into the other coach not once, but TWICE! Of course he was caught. And said “But, Coach told me to” Coach has been fired.
And our local university last year decided to “upgrade” the football team to the next level, which means bussing the team 100 miles away to use a professional football stadium, and paying all kinds of new fees to be in this league etc. Report came out yesterday that the university has spent an additional 8.3 MILLION on this move, and the team has won exactly one game all season. Meanwhile, professors are being laid off, there is no money for building maintenance, the computer lab and assorted other basement classrooms have had to be closed due to mold problems. But we got us a big league football team, by golly.

Rose, Zoë had her first shower since the end of December. She is in heaven She is also wheeling herself around in the chair and asking questions. I think I will get her a plow for the front. Then she can return to bulldozer status.
YSAS is doing “better”. The check up doc said to keep doing what he was doing. Eating bland food, slowly adding other things, building back his strength.
Zoë is considering getting a mini iPaw! I won’t let her have mine.
11:58 am on January 19th, 2013
Sorry to have to ask but who is Teo?
T&G: I feel your fury.
12:01 pm on January 19th, 2013
Melanie: Sounds like Zoe is making Excellent progress, and Good to hear YSAS is doing better. Was this episode connected to the earlier one?
12:05 pm on January 19th, 2013
I have been stalking a downy or hairy woodpecker for a day now. I’m trying to get his picture at the feeder. He’s a beauty. I think he can tell when I lift the camera up because he flys away everything I do it.
Oh, BTH, and any idiot that decides that he is not enough and must use illegal or legal drugs to enhance his performance (and yes, I do mean that commercial) is a self serving, low esteem nincompoop.

In The Guardian review of a new BBC series based on Chesterton’s Father Brown, there is an interesting statement. In part the article is answering the question why Sherlock Holmes is the more pervasive character:
“Neither film nor TV is a medium built for the celebration of humility.”
Mark Williams (Ron Weasley’s dad in the Harry Potter films) is playing the part of Father Brown.

We are very happy to read of Zoe’s progress. Hoping YSAS continues improving.

Home!…Sweet Mother of Dawg! Home!….wheeze!….We were tricked-up and taken to the V-E-T this morning bright and damned early…grump!…A new place and a new guy. That guy was huge for petes sake! His paws were the size of baseball mits and needless to say he had them all over me and Beau…grump!…Then he had the nerve to give us both shots and they wrestled Beau down and took blood out of his forearm for a wormie test…gah!…I felt bad for the guy. He was huffing and puffing up a storm…heh!…I was done right after the shot…snort!
12:21 pm on January 19th, 2013
Groomer!…heh!heh!…Now after all that Beau has to go to the groomer and get a bath…chorkel!…That guy is going to be pissed off big time come this afternoon…heh!heh!
12:24 pm on January 19th, 2013
Poor Beau . . You sure you’re not going to the groomer, Riö?
BSD, yes, the two were connected. His gut had not healed enough for regular food.
Happy Day!
12:27 pm on January 19th, 2013
Hoax!…I don’t understand the whole Manti Teo hoax at all…grunt!…How can you have feelings for someone you’ve never met before?….hmmmmm? sneeze!
12:39 pm on January 19th, 2013
Masquers: Thank you for the link. (I’m wondering how he got into Notre Dame. Unfortunately, I know the answer.)
12:41 pm on January 19th, 2013
Poor Beau…he probably thought he was going for a walk…and now the groomer.
B: It is very sad. Our sports heroes apparently all have Achilles’ heels.

Melanie: A nice smiling face to take our minds off the treachery and betrayals in the world.

Prize!…My friend is working on the FOURTH PRIZE for the Feed The Giant campaign…sniff!…I don’t think she should bother. No one has won the first prize yet…sniff!
2:25 pm on January 19th, 2013
Here is what we know about Manti Te’o. He was expected to enter the draft last year, as most players in that position, with his credentials, do. He would have been drafted high and for a lot of money. Instead, he chose to return to Notre Dame for another year because he felt it was the right thing to do. The team says that he is the heart and soul of the team, and he finished 2nd in the Heisman Trophy standings, which defensive players never win. Knowing all of this, we believe his story of befriending a girl over the internet and helping her thru her hardship. The story was a hoax but nobody is yet sure who was responsible for the hoax. We have met friends on the internet. Some are even cats!
2:30 pm on January 19th, 2013
Melanie, glad to hear that Zoe has gone mobile , and that YSAS is on the mend.
Rio! Why does Beau always go to the groomer, and not you? Just asking.
2:33 pm on January 19th, 2013
Rio! I am waiting on my paycheck for this week. ( I get paid bi- weekly). Should I send my Feed the Giant check to you???????
2:36 pm on January 19th, 2013
Dawson, Please check SDD.
Zoë called. She rolled down to the entrance of the Rehab place to see my sister off. There were two doors that were closed that are never closed.
Zoë found out they had a guy trying to escape!

I can understand Teo being tricked into an online relationship for a brief time, but 2 years and he never met her! Come on! And he called her his girlfriend. Very strange indeed!
2:51 pm on January 19th, 2013
Barb, Mom calls you her girlfriend. 🙂
By the way, she likes the bangs too.
2:53 pm on January 19th, 2013
Oley, we just read your comments on Teo, and he sounds like a nice, but maybe naive guy. We can understand befriending people online (some of our best friends are online), but maybe calling her his girlfriend was a stretch.
3:03 pm on January 19th, 2013
We do agree he was naive, and that he went too far with the girlfriend part. It is just all such a shame because he had everything going for him.
Mom calls a lot of youse 2-leggeds her girlfriends though, and what if that is the way it started for Teo, and then when he learned she was dying he let emotions rule.
3:11 pm on January 19th, 2013
O.Howlers and Barb&Magpie: Thumbs up for the bangs here too.
Maybe we shouldn’t rush to judgment about Te’o but that is a Strange story. Quite Absurd, really.
Rio: Don’t give up on us…some of us are still shopping. My treat jar is low, but someone here received an Amazon Gift card for Christmas and is putting it to Good use.
4:39 pm on January 19th, 2013
Oh all right Rio, Check your SDD in a minute. sheesh

Does anyone remember what movie and what was the character Andy Griffith played were he is a villian. At the end of the movie he is being a “good Ol’ boy” on TV and when he thinks the camera is off he talks about how he has everyone in his hands and how stupid they are. The camera is still rolling and this ruins him.
Zoe is having a visitor with four paws! Hero is our groomer’s dog!
5:15 pm on January 19th, 2013
Mr.Staff says that movie is A Face in the Crowd. I never play memory games against him.
5:22 pm on January 19th, 2013
Alice: Thank Dog you (Mr. Staff) remembered the name, otherwise it would have bugged us all day and into the night.
5:24 pm on January 19th, 2013
Melanie: Is the groomer’s dog a Newf?
5:24 pm on January 19th, 2013
Thanks to Mr. Staff. I remember being stunned with his portrayal of that character.
5:26 pm on January 19th, 2013
Hero is a mutt!
5:31 pm on January 19th, 2013
We are very impressed with Mr.Staff’s memory!

Rose!…You my dear have done quite enough already…snorkel!…But if you want to send me cold hard cash that would very much be appreciated…sniff!…Especially after the day I have had…grunt!…First the V-E-T-S and then when Beau was at the groomer I got tossed in the tub…grump!sneeze!…But I did not have to have my toenails clipped like he did…heh!
6:04 pm on January 19th, 2013
Beau!…He goes to the groomer because her and her mother do not think he would let them give him a bath…sniff!
6:14 pm on January 19th, 2013
Prize!…Even with all the running around and bathing going on around here my friend found time to get some groceries and finish the Fourth Prize…wheeze!…Now everyone is pooped out and taking it easy…sniff!snore!

Greetings from the middle of the mitten. Can’t tell you what it looks like outside because we have been down and out. Nothing but couch surfing for us the past couple of days. Mom has been really sick for a week and I’ve been staying very close to her side.
Mom went back to the doc yesterday because she her throat pain is so bad she can’t sleep. Negative again on the strep test. Doc sent mom for labs which came back normal. Mom’s been taking vicodin for her pain and that takes her pain level from a constant 8 down to about a 3. Mom started on augmentin this morning and she does feel a bit better, but now seems to be running a fever off and on. She has to go back to the doc for a recheck on Mon. If her throat pain is not resolving, she will have a KAT scan. Doc is thinking maybe a throat abscess.
Mom doesn’t care if a KAT or a crocodile or a frog can help her figure out what’s wrong. If it will stop the pain she’s all for it. Mom says after she gets well from this she is getting her tonsils out because she is never going through this again. We know that tonsil surgery on adults is usually pretty difficult, but mom says never, never again will she deal with the pain from swollen tonsils and that. is. all. I nod my head and give her hand a gentle lick. She likes that gentle lick thing.
6:31 pm on January 19th, 2013
Jasper!….That sucks!…snort!…Here was me thinking your maw was all better and back to kickin’ butt at the busy-place…grunt!
6:32 pm on January 19th, 2013
Jasper: So sorry your mom is in such terrible pain. It does sound like it could be the tonsils. In the meantime I know you will be giving her the Best of Care.
Melanie: Hero saves the Day, today, but what about Franklin? He has his Therapy Dog credentials, right?
Wose: Are you and the Prof enjoying the Steak Dinner yet?
Rio: Youse had one heck of a morning. Snooze time!
6:34 pm on January 19th, 2013
Bear!…I had a bad afternoon too, Bear…sniff!…Don’t forget the bath thing…grump!
6:38 pm on January 19th, 2013

6:40 pm on January 19th, 2013
Awww..Jasper: I sure hope your mom feels better soon.
🙂 Checkpoint Announcement! 🙂
The deadline for checkpoint donations is arbitrarily being set at midnight Sunday. The slow pace of donations dictates that we close Checkpoint Central. All donations received prior to the deadline will cause a name to be drawn from the hat and a prize will go out to that person. *No paper was quilled in the making of these prizes.
There are 2 Checkpoints with approx $100 short each. These are Zoe, Melanie and the River Bear Newfs and MacyMinPin and the Miniature Iditarod Team Checkpoints.
After a leisurely brunch on Monday, the Checkpoint Committee will draw a name out of the hat for the Grand Prize! An Official Iditarod Checkpoint Map! Thanks to all the Plunderers and Lurkers for your over the top support for team Snowhook! Here we come!
6:42 pm on January 19th, 2013
Jasper, we are sorry your mom is so sick. Our rents are still not tip top, but nowhere near how bad your mom is. Tuck her under the quilt and stay by her side.
That’s all for us folks. Nighty night.
6:47 pm on January 19th, 2013
CHobbit: Was that you attempting to post the photos of Lady and Sadie yesterday?
Riö: It was tough, but at least you didn’t have to go to the groomer like Beau did. Tomorrow will be better.
Dawson: $200 short? If each of us gave $10 we could still pull it off.
6:51 pm on January 19th, 2013
Dawson!…Put me and Beau down for 10.00 each!…snort!…Now I expect those who can do the same…sniff!…We CANNOT let these two checkpoints go unfinished…wheeze!grunt!
6:53 pm on January 19th, 2013
Jasper, hope your mom gets better soon. Barb had a sore throat with this flu that kept her awake, but only for a night or two. Keep her under the quilt. This is bad stuff.
Rio, we sent you a donation for the giant.
7:07 pm on January 19th, 2013
Wait…what?
Two donations from the blog and two from email!
I have to pick 4 names out of the hat!
Hold on, hold on!

7:20 pm on January 19th, 2013
Dawson!…Hold off on picking prizes till the checkpoints are fully funded…grunt!…You are just like her mother – always rushing everything…gruffle!
7:25 pm on January 19th, 2013
Bear, the Prof and I got back from steak dinner about 20 minutes ago. The Prof loved everything…the service, the prime rib, the salad, the potatoes, the tiramisu, the cappuccino with a bit of chocolate, and the port wine. We have enough left for 2 dinners. Burp! Excuse me….
7:28 pm on January 19th, 2013

Jasper, please tell your mom I felt her pain. Luckily, not quite as bad as that. Back in October it started and didn’t let up for seemed forever. I’m well now (knock on wood) but that pain was terrible.
Hero was a hero. About Franklin. Right now we have a couple ladies feeling a bit fresh. The guys shouldn’t go anywhere.
7:50 pm on January 19th, 2013

Hey Rio. Staff’s niece had a kat many years ago. He was a very furry orange kat, the most beautiful kind. He went out which I am not supposed to do. In the summer they would give him a ‘lion cut’ He sure looked different! It will NEVER happen to me.

This is just a generic pic off google images…

9:29 pm on January 19th, 2013
Wild!… Watching the Wild play reminds my friend of a guy she used to work with at the busy-place…heh!… He was a HUGE fan. He told my friend he got to eat lunch with the team one time…snort!… Of course he was from Minnesota. Smart as a whip and he would play Bejeweled during all the training sessions they were forced to go to. My friend always sat beside him and was amazed at how quickly he flew through the levels of the game…gasp!…He was fired for standing up to the Bony-Fingered bitch during one of these sessions….heh!…Makes us feel good knowing he is watching the game right now!…woooo!
