Iggy For President?
Rick Torres came over last night with his new girlfriend. Her name’s Lucinda and she’s not that comfortable around me and my kind. You pick that up right away here in the nation within. They all started talking politics, whatever that is – Bernie, Suzie, Rick, Lucinda. Sometimes human voices start rising, first one, then another, and soon they reach an unpleasant volume. What they were talking about was kind of hard to follow, but one thing I picked up on was pretty exciting: there are blue dogs in politics! Maybe not as many as there used to be, but still: I’m for them. I’ve never actually seen a blue dog before, although come to think of it, Iggy can look kind of bluish in certain lights.
There he is at the window now. I stare at him. He stares back. He is looking a bit bluish today. I’ve never thought of Iggy as the leader type, but maybe I’ve been wrong all this time. Now he’s prancing around. What’s that he’s got in his mouth? That bedroom slipper? I can almost taste it, I want it so bad. Is that what politicians do, tease you with bedroom slippers?

Yes, Chet, that's what Politicians do. . . tease you with bedroom slippers! There are different types of bedroom slippers. Big leather ones, small ones with feathers, slippers that look like stuffed animals.
Once we bought a pair of slippers that looked like Lions for Dan. Boy, that batch of pups liked those. Dan couldn't walk ANYWHERE without getting attacked. Sort of looked like the pic with the polar bear cub and the human's legs. Except there were seven puppies.
Chet, did you know that Politicians are having a big fight about pork in the budget. Just thought you should know!

Iggy's got my vote!
6:00 am on November 13th, 2010
Chet for President!! He could run on a platform of bacon in every pan.
Iggy can be vice president.
Chet could appoint me Secretary of the Interior.
Rio can be Secretary of State.
There would be a job in the Cabinet for every dog and cat on this blog. The cats can bring their Staff.

Good morning Chet and everyone. One of these meds makes me really dopey so I'll be back later.

Politics!…Again? …phooey. We’ve been cleaning house this morning and I’ve been helping…snort!… My friend thinks cleaning house is exactly what needs to be done in 2012, whatever that means…grunt! ….I’ve heard rumors that the world will end in 2012, so what does it matter?… snuffle!

Hi there Mr. Husky,
I talked to Dawson this morning and she said to tell you that she has LOTS of snow. She also wanted me to send her good wishes to BStover and Wolfie. That was all she had time to read about before the blog went away.
(Go to http://www.noaa.gov and then type Minneapolis,MN into the navy blue weather forecast link on the upper left if you want to see how much.)
No snow here on the prairie yet. Maybe by the middle of the week, but we are missing her storm.

Wow! Thanks Staff. We saw a few pictures of it on the news. I'll have mom turn the tv on the Weather Channel so I can see more pictures. I didn't know exactly where she is except that she is dealing with a computer from the Dark Ages.
8:29 am on November 13th, 2010
Hi to Dawson, we miss you.
Rio, You mentioned Indie movies last night. Barb loved The Namesake, and Sweet Land, both Indie films. She has a couple more on order from Netflix. She doesn't like subtitle tho, too much reading and concentration.
She liked the book Kite Runner, but when she tried to watch the movie (which seemed to be well done), she gave up because of the subtitles.
Hope Stover feels better.
Any new updates from Wolfie?
8:57 am on November 13th, 2010
Staff: make sure Dawson see's the link I put up yesterday, just for her. Also the radar is amazing for MN.
B.Stover: If you're taking antibiotics, make sure you also eat yogurt.
Riö: Just how Do you help clean your house.
Joe: Hi!
Siber-H: Riö for Secretary of State? Frightening.
Hey MagPie: I hope Barb is okay. Sending good thoughts your way.
8:58 am on November 13th, 2010
Well, it's not often you see's things . . . Jeez
I'm blaming Verizon. I stood in their store for an hour this morning as they proved what I told them. The phone is not working right. We got a new phone.
9:18 am on November 13th, 2010
Melanie: Why should yogart be eaten with antibiotics? They make be dopey. I've never heard of an antibiotic that makes you "drowsy" (as it says on the bottle) but they are very strong. My problem has been lack of sleep because I can't breathe when lying down and can't sleep while sitting up (unlike Rio). But the meds seem to help the sinus infection also. (I also have "mild" asthma.) That was good work getting a new phone.
Barb: How are you?
Rio: I meant that I'm interesting in hearing about the new craft after something is made. I've never heard of that Russell Crowe movie.
9:19 am on November 13th, 2010
Crafty!… Hey, she started learning how to do this Quilling thing this morning…grunt!… She made a flower with petals. I just had to see what it was all about so she showed me the “flower” and I licked it good….heh!…Now she’s all mad at me for ruining the very first thing she made…snicker!… Oh great, now she is off to the craft store to buy more stuff…cripes!
9:54 am on November 13th, 2010
Stover, Yogart should be eaten with antibiotics because antibiotics can wipe out the friendly and wanted bacteria in your tummy. Be sure to buy the yogart with active cultures in it. The yogart with active cultures will replace the friendly bacteria in your digestive system that the antibiotics destroy.
The doctor probably put you on some heavy duty antibiotics. Continue resting, my dear…as Rio would say. We want you to get well.
Melanie, I thought Rio as Secretary of State would shake things up a bit..tee hee. Some of the Newfs can be in charge of the Navy and Coast Guard.
9:57 am on November 13th, 2010
Having to deal with Verizon can send my mom over the edge. Yikes!
10:11 am on November 13th, 2010
SH: Thank you. I'm going to eat some yogurt while I contemplate Rio as secretary of state.
10:23 am on November 13th, 2010
The Pack would be willing to serve as Chief of Staffs in the Navy and Coast Guard.
Thanks Siber-H, that's what I would have said to B.Stover. Have to get the good stuff in while it's getting rid of the bad stuff.
Riö: Can't wait to see pictures of this!
Patsy and I just got back from our "stroll". It's a high 62 degrees here, the sun is shining but the road through the woods was a bit cool. As we came back, the 1/2 moon was out (I wonder why they call it the first quarter, when it's a half moon?), the horses were snickering in their field when out of the woods came the sound of bag pipes. Awesome. Also, who ever it was, was good which is a good awesome. Because if the bag pipes are played not so good it can be awesomely terrible. Anyhoo, Patsy just stopped, stared up into the woods and we listened.
"Tis a Gift to Be Simple" was the song. One of my favorites.
10:39 am on November 13th, 2010
Iggy definitely has my vote. 🙂 Haha. Getting 'Behind the Curtain,' 'Down the Rabbit Hole,' 'The Tutor,' and 'End of Story' soon. 😀
10:42 am on November 13th, 2010
Melanie: You're thinking only of the side of the moon that we see. At this point we see only one quarter of the whole moon.
11:13 am on November 13th, 2010
Chet – yup! Politicians are always tempting us with goodies like chewable slippers and other treats! But do they bring them to us, nary a chew strip in sight.
11:26 am on November 13th, 2010
Hi Everyone – Mom is back from the chairlift evacuation and she said it was fun. Like Melanie, we are having great weather – 65 degrees. Poor Mom only gets an hour to rest up and get ready for a cocktail party followed by a dinner party somewhere else. She looks kinda tired right now.
Mom said they had a speaker at the Safety Patrol meeting and Mom learned words to live by: "When dealing with a customer, don't say the first thing that pops into your head." Too bad she didn't learn that last ski season.
11:33 am on November 13th, 2010
Mollypop, Those are words of wisdom.
Barb is out running amuck, doing errands to get ready for next week. She will talk to you guys later about her situation. She looks fine to me!
11:54 am on November 13th, 2010
Practice!… Well, she says she needs a lot of practice quilling before showing anything on this here blog…grunt!… Meaning it’s harder than it looks…snort!!
Pepper! … Here is a photo she took last weekend at the farm of my friend Pepper…wheeze!…Too bad you can’t see her big ole front paws…grunt!

12:12 pm on November 13th, 2010
Pepper is beautiful!! Does she work on the farm?
Hey Wookie thank you for the time difference lesson yesterday, that was really clear and helpful.
B, you can also take pro-biotics as tablets, they have lots more good bacteria than yoghurt and no sugar (which is also bad for your gut when the good bacteria die off). I hope you feel better! That's a long list of health problems to deal with at once.
12:26 pm on November 13th, 2010
Rio: So do I.
Thanks Liz.
1:05 pm on November 13th, 2010
Rio, With that merle coloring, Pepper has some heeler or aussie blood in her. She is very pretty – and taller than you, I bet. Maybe faster, too?
1:13 pm on November 13th, 2010
MollyPop! You beat me to it. Exactly what I was going to say about Pepper's paws!
1:40 pm on November 13th, 2010
Pepper!…Work?…heh! Now there’s a concept…snort!… All I know is she is a big pain in the butt and she runs me ragged when I go out there…grunt!
Audrey!… We are watching How To Steal A Million with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O’Toole …gruff!…She is practicing her “flowers” while trying to watch the movie…snort!…That’s not working too well as far as I can tell…sniff!
2:20 pm on November 13th, 2010
Lexi!…I’m glad to see Lil Ole Lexi branching out with her reading choices…snort!…Whatcha been up to lately Lexi?…sniff!
2:21 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb here – time to tell you guys what is going on with me. Don't want to get all morbid and depressing about it, but on Nov. 2nd I went in for a mammorgram and they found a mass in the right breast that the radiologist didn't like. I had to go back and meet with a surgeon on the 4th, and he recommended a surgical biopsy on Monday. I had to go in last week for a colon and esophagus check and those were ok. Since I had early stage breast cancer in 1998 (Lumpectomy, and nothing else needed), they are almost certain that this is a return of breast cancer. If it is, they recommend a mastectomy for sure on the right side, and my choice on the left side. I opted for a double just so I don't have to worry, and that eliminates chance of probable reoccurence. The doc does not think I will have to go thru chemo, but they are taking out nodes on the right, and if they are involved, I will probably have to have a few months of chemo. That is a wait and see after Monday. At my age, it is a much less aggressive disease than if I were a young woman. One good thing about being older, I guess.
After surgery, my daughter Kelly is taking me back to her home in the Chicago suburbs, and then I will finish out the week at my son Josh's home. He will bring me back home next Sunday afternoon, the 21st. Maggie has to go to the Bed and Biscuit, and he will help me pick her up on the way home.
I head to the hospital Mon. at 5:30 a.m., and will probably not post till Wednesday at least.
Send me some prayers (Pug Prayers are good too!) I will post thru tomorrow evening, and I know that all my good friends on the blog will help me get thru this.
2:27 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb, The Newf Pack, both 4 and 2 legged, send our best prayers and thoughts to you. Well be thinking of you Monday.
Take care, be well, and love and sloppery kisses to you.
2:31 pm on November 13th, 2010
MagPie!…Tell Barb I am here for her 100 percent…sniffle!… Tell her to be brave and tell her everything will be okay….snuffle!…She will be in my Pug Prayers along with Kirby’s Grandpa…snort!
2:36 pm on November 13th, 2010
All our prayers and positive thoughts coming from Chevy Chase! We have a total of 5 long term (more than 10 year) survivors in my quilting group and 2 were recurrences of Cancer from an earlier age. My friend had a double mastectomy after years of enduring biopsy after biopsy and she says that it was one of the best decisions she ever made! We know you will make it through this with love, humor and blessings. Love DLM, Wookie and Wookie's Dad
PS – Age may be a bear in a lot of ways but you're right in this case it is on your side.
2:41 pm on November 13th, 2010
Yes, you will be in all our prayers and thoughts. Thank you for telling us, Barb, so we can at least do this for you. Rough kitty kisses for you.
2:52 pm on November 13th, 2010
I'll be thinking of you on Monday. I'm glad you will have the love and support of your daughter and son. We'll be waiting to hear from you on Wednesday.
2:53 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb, We are putting you in our Kitty prayers too. LiveStrong and prosper. I know the whole blog is rooting for you.
BStover,
I drink milk with active cultures in it and every night after I take my pills I have some Greek yogurt with active cultures. I just love 3 Greek Gods natural yogurt with honey. YUM
Melanie,
I sure wish we had some good bagpipers around here. It would be awesome to hear them through the woods. While looking at the new moon too. Soon it will be a gibbous moon. Heh. Ask the Catty Librarian if you don't know that one.
2:58 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb, Husky Hugs and Prayers and non-slobbery kisses especially for you You'll be in our thoughts and Prayers. We love you and are wishing a speedy recovery for you, which I think is going to happen. You know you have the support of all of us and as a team we can't be beat by anyone or anything.

Barb: warrior fierce prayers for healing and a swift recovery are on the way.
Melanie: thanks for the visual of the walk and listening to the bagpipes. I felt like we were walking together.
3:08 pm on November 13th, 2010
If you ask me, Pepper is a pretty good looking girl, big paws and all.
3:18 pm on November 13th, 2010
Thank you staff. And I think Pepper's paws are elegant.
3:20 pm on November 13th, 2010
Snuff!… I can’t believe you guys like that Pepper so much…grump!… You don’t know her the way I do….sniff!
3:21 pm on November 13th, 2010
Thank all of you for the kind thoughts and words. You are truly good friends – 2 legged and 4 legged.
Ok, what is a gibbous moon?
Rio, you are right, those are might big paws!
3:23 pm on November 13th, 2010
Best wishes Barb for the surgery and for the future, i hope you can avoid the chemo but if not, may it go well.
Can someone explain the blue dog thing?
I wish Iggy could get out! i wish he and Chet could have a big adventure in the canyon out back…
3:26 pm on November 13th, 2010
A waxing gibbous is on the right and is 51 to 99% of the full moon. A waning gibbous is on the left and is 51 to 99%. Two of the names for phases of the moon.
3:28 pm on November 13th, 2010
Liz: I think it is referring to democrats whose color is blue…and a donkey is the symbol. For republicans it's red and an elephant.
3:34 pm on November 13th, 2010
LizF!… I told Wookie you were exactly 16 hours in the future from me, but in fact you are 18 hours out there somewhere….snort!… That just makes me want to shake all over!…sniff!…How are you doing on your “commissions”. Are you almost done so that you can do my sketch?…wheeze!
3:46 pm on November 13th, 2010
Liz, to add to what Stover said, I think blue dog Democrats are slightly more conservative than the Democratic Party as a whole.
3:49 pm on November 13th, 2010
I love the gibbous moon. Sounds indecent.
B. Stover, If the quarter moon is because we can't see the three quarters that aren't lit, then why is it a full moon instead of a half moon?
3:55 pm on November 13th, 2010
And why is the black moon called the New moon? I have no idea. But I'll see if I can find out tomorrow. I'm calling it a night.
3:56 pm on November 13th, 2010
Melanie!… I concur …heh!…A quarter moon is really an eighth of a moon…snort! – so says Moondoggie!…snort!
4:08 pm on November 13th, 2010
Rio, Is Moondoggie your new moniker?
4:16 pm on November 13th, 2010
Stover!…Good Night! Get lots of sleep and please remember to breath!…snorkel!
MagPie!…Only when I want it to be not any time else….grunt! …Remember that…sniff!
4:18 pm on November 13th, 2010
Staff!… How are you feeling these days and where the hell is AbbieTheKat and Alice the Menace?…grunt!
4:19 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb — I let my mom take the lead on this one because I knew she would know just what to say much better than I would. There are a couple of things she did not mention however. Before becoming a quilter she was a health care professional for many years, so she is very knowledgeable about these things, so you can definitely rely on everything she said. She also participated in one of the Avon walks a few years ago, doing 26 miles in two days and raising $3800 in contributions to help fight breast cancer. I did my part too, because I went with her on all her training walks, including a couple of ten-milers (they don't let dogs do the actual Avon walk too, or I would have tried that as well). Anyway, ditto everything she said. With the thoughts and prayers of everyone here on the blog supporting you, everything will turn out just fine. Wookie
4:22 pm on November 13th, 2010
Thank you, Wookie, and LebbieLM and Wookie's dad too. I am feeling positive about things next week and thereafter.
4:30 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb!…That’s the spirit!…snort!…We will all do everything we can to make you laugh a lot because Laughter is a great Healer, believe you me, we know all about that… heh!
4:34 pm on November 13th, 2010
Rio, thank you, and speaking of laughter, all this moon talk is making me loony! Get it? Loony comes from lunatic, which comes from lunar. Bee can probably explain it in more correct terms, but you get the idea. Hee hee.
4:57 pm on November 13th, 2010
Well, I was going to say something clever and fascinating about the gibbous moon, but I'm zonked.
Everyone TAKE CARE of yourselves, and Dawson, I hope you get on line soon.
Sorry LizF for leaving as you are arriving, but I just can't stay awake any longer. Not like some of these people here!
5:06 pm on November 13th, 2010
Time!… Its about 2:10pm Sunday Liz’s time… snort!…She is probably off to the beach somewhere drinking something…heh!
5:13 pm on November 13th, 2010
Ha ha Rio – I would like to see Pepper’s big ole front paws – holding you down by the head.
5:13 pm on November 13th, 2010
Lord of all Creation, tonight we place our Barb in your loving care. We ask you to be with her as she undergoes surgery, may you keep the pain minimal, and may all the margins be clean.
We thank You for Your unending goodness, for your faithfulness and for Your Grace.
5:24 pm on November 13th, 2010
My boys…sigh. They have been Missing since Tuesday, although Chad did leave a voice mail yesterday and said he was hungry and wanted mom to order him a pizza. (Of course, he didn't say where he was or where he was calling from, but that would not have made any difference. He was higher than a kite and mom and dad are doing the tough love thing. If they want something to eat, they need to be home where they belong.)
I would love to have them come soon because I adore pizza.
5:24 pm on November 13th, 2010
Amen…good prayer Wolfie
5:30 pm on November 13th, 2010
You made me cry a little Wolfie, but in a good way. Thank you for the prayer, it was wonderful.
5:49 pm on November 13th, 2010
Wolfie, I am glad your Mom and Dad are united and taking a hard stand with the boys. It's probably the best chance for them to recover.
5:52 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb and Everybody – we're together in this community for a reason, maybe not something we understand, but surely to support each other in challenging times – health, family issues, elephants and donkeys, being out of treats!
Please accept head butts from a Kat who asks that we all be wrapped in a cloak of peace.
6:00 pm on November 13th, 2010
Thanks for the explanations guys. Red, blue, donkeys, elephants, dogs… dogs are bluer than donkeys…?
Rio, i was out to lunch, not at the beach! and not drinking, btw, which you have mentioned before, i assume you're an aficianado of Australian wine?
Thanks Melanie, it's best that you didn't wait up since i didn't get back til 3. Even Moondoggie must be asleep by now.
6:03 pm on November 13th, 2010
You are right BlueCat. We are a community, and the blog is an important and supportive part of my life. It and all the members mean a lot to me, in the good times and the not so good.
Good night all, see you in the morning!
6:28 pm on November 13th, 2010
Lunch!…3 hour lunch, Liz?…snort!…Really? Do you expect to get any of your commissions done on time working like that?…sneeze!
BluKat!… You are spot on when you say “community”, even the Charming Mr. Abrahams calls us a community….snort!…Maybe we need a Mayor or Commissioner or Sheriff?…grunt!heh!
6:49 pm on November 13th, 2010
Avatars!… It has come to my attention that the following Plunderers need to get their Avatars in order…grunt!… Chet, foremost! Then Lil Lexie, as an “older” member of the blog, and now Liz the newest lurker to come to the surface….snort! … If you all need another lesson just say so…snuffle!
11:09 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb – Poodle Prayers for you! Prayers for you to stay strong and to grant you Serenity.
11:21 pm on November 13th, 2010
Barb! MagPie!…Goodnight and please have a very peaceful nights sleep!…snort!
LizF!… You hold me in such low regard as to how long I can stay up!…heh!…Here in Mountain Time it is only 9:20pm Saturday night…snort!…We are up watching a British six-part mini series which is freakin’ us out tonight…grunt!…3rd episode of Luther – Stover knows it!…gasp!
Wine!…You will have to talk to Chet and Stover about Wine…cough!… I am more of a Beer Guy myself, although I have abstained per a request from Lil Ole Lexi way back when baseball season first started. She thought she spotted a problem with me drinking too many bowls of beer…grunt!…Granted, I was a little excited back then and may have over-consumed…heh!…But now I stick to my bowl of water and whatever else I can scavange off the floor…sniff!…Especially on Taco Night, like tonight!…gruff!…A floor buffet for sure without the sports excitement!…heh!
1:54 am on November 14th, 2010
I need a lesson!
