Iditarod (Cont’d)
“We’re back on the trail?” Spence says.
“In an armchair sort of way,” Admin says. “I thought some sled problem was the issue, but Rebecca’s report – she’s CEO of Snowhook, our team in the greatest sled dog race on earth – makes no mention of that. One of those strange things from the land of the midnight sun. First, here’s Louisa Mae of the Snowhook team.”
“And now here’s Rebecca. Many thanks to her for this.”
The team is still running with fifteen dogs. Our blue-eyed boy, Jem and his nose—both sponsored by the Plunderers—was dropped earlier in the race. I hope to hear from the Drop Dog Coordinator today or tomorrow with the news that I can pick up Jem and his nose. Just as it has been with dropped dogs before, he will be welcomed home with food, water, fresh straw and belly rubs. Jem’s brother Radley, not on AJ’s main race team, will be glad to have his brother home.
“Here’s Jem. Get some rest, buddy!”
Welcome Nikki from music city, Coal the clue retriever.

Awww…Jem. It’s Okay, Buddy, Good Race! You’ll Be Welcomed Home with open arms.
8:36 am on March 7th, 2013
Good morning, and thank you Spence and Rebecca for a great update. Hope Jem and his nose get home soon.
Quiet day here. No snow or wind, and we are expecting temps to reach almost 50 on Saturday. Rain on Sunday, so we should be in a soupy mess in a few days.
8:38 am on March 7th, 2013
Good Morning Chet, Spence, Admin and All.
And now…some News From the Trail:
Side Bars and stories from the Takotna checkpoint
By satellite phone from the trail, we learn that Insider reporter Greg Heister and Mike Speaks were enroute to Iditarod with snowmachines. Heister, who is known as a ”seize the day, carpus diem” kind of adventure reporter, discovered Sonny Lindner on the trail sans dog team. Using the readily available means of recovery, Heister apparently tracked the team down with his snowmachine and eventually reunited Lindner with the runaway team. More on that story as we gather information. We also know that Heister pile drove his machine into several snow banks, further enhancing his Alaska film adventure.
Mike Speaks also relayed from the Iditarod checkpoint an advisory to mushers of a “short 2 foot deep section of water in the trees about ten miles before Iditarod.”
8:45 am on March 7th, 2013
I hope Jem is okay. Hi Louise Mae.
I’ve started getting musher reports from Iditarod. AJ checked out of Takotna (love these names) at 03:20 Alaska time.
Good morning all.
8:48 am on March 7th, 2013
Good morning, B&M and B: Temps are expected to rise on the trail also. Even now, in the early morning hours, it’s up to 29 degrees.
8:49 am on March 7th, 2013
Good morning all. Jem AND his nose? Any idea why he had to be dropped?
Our team having 15 dogs at this point looks good. We also are getting the email updates now. Buser is zooming.
Will AJ know about the 2-foot deep water on the trail?
8:54 am on March 7th, 2013
Jem may not be running anymore this race, but he looks like a happy dog. Louisa Mae appears cozy. Won’t be long till AK sunrise. Where is the next web cam/
8:55 am on March 7th, 2013
HOH: My question exactly!
8:57 am on March 7th, 2013
How did AJ change runners in 5 minutes?
9:01 am on March 7th, 2013
Fast, OH, Fast.
Off to do chores and go to acupuncture.
Go Snowhook Go!
9:12 am on March 7th, 2013
Mom asked us to tell youse that for some reason she doesn’t seem to be able to reply to your SDDs. Whatever. Back to rwm.
9:18 am on March 7th, 2013
Oh, welcome Nikki, another TN pup. 🙂
9:36 am on March 7th, 2013
Did they really say “carpus diem”? It’s “carpe diem” but it’s been so long since I had Latin that I don’t remember conjugations.
9:48 am on March 7th, 2013
That AJ is some smart strategist.
Bet he would be a good mouse hunt partner.
9:53 am on March 7th, 2013
Thanks Spence, Admin and Rebecca for that report from the Trail.
Good job, Jem!
The musher, the dogs and the sled are all working.
Whew…for Sonny Lindner, his team was found unscathed. Too bad for his race this year.
9:53 am on March 7th, 2013
Bee, doesn’t the “us” make it a noun like “turdus” is thrush?
9:55 am on March 7th, 2013
Herd of Hounds? Did you increase your Herd? Is Nikki the Long Tailed Black Bear pup?
9:56 am on March 7th, 2013
Melanie – you need more coco. Nikki is a new FOC from TN.
10:00 am on March 7th, 2013
Is Lindner a scratch?
We just found that amazing photo of the A-Team crossing the ice bridge. Woo Hoo GO SNOWHOOK!
10:00 am on March 7th, 2013
No.Mel. Her foto looks like a small Spaniel mix, She says she’s
from Nashville. HOH just likes to acknowledge (big word) other TN pups. Our new newf comes on the ides of March (sticking with the latin theme Bee started earlier)!
10:05 am on March 7th, 2013
Standings page I saw shows Linder at Iditarod check point near 2nd(?).
10:06 am on March 7th, 2013
Sonny Lindner: Maybe not a scratch. It is not allowed for mushers to accept physical help from “outside”. But maybe Bruce located the team and relayed the information to Sonny and Sonny retrieved the team. That would be ok unless Sonny got a ride with the snowmobile.
10:16 am on March 7th, 2013
Thanks for another great update Spence and Rebecca. We appreciate the pictures of the Snowhook dogs every day.
It is suppose to get up to 70 degres here today. Mom says, Woo Woo
10:18 am on March 7th, 2013
I better research that rule…I’m saying whatever comes out of my mouth without benefit of my morning coffee. Nothing good can come of that! I do know you are not allowed help but how they define help is the issue.
10:22 am on March 7th, 2013
AJ just checked into Ophir. That’s Brandy’s checkpoint! Brandy would love to run with them.
Sharon: I don’t know except it’s only verbs that are conjugated.
10:22 am on March 7th, 2013
Looks like he’s into Ophir!
10:39 am on March 7th, 2013
Ophir!…Lets hear it for Stover and Brandy!….WooooHooooo!…I have a feeling it is going to be an great day for our team, and I am never that optimistic this early in the morning or even later…grunt!…I need some cawfee now…wheeze!
10:45 am on March 7th, 2013
And out again.
10:46 am on March 7th, 2013
Team!…They are on the move and making up time…Wooooo!snort!
10:47 am on March 7th, 2013
Checkpoint Ophir! Brandy is here, chin up, waiting to run with the team.
During the early morning hours, the Snowhook Team also ran through Takotna – Shiek was there, standing proud and regal to welcome the team, as was Leo. A whole herd of horses stood back and watched as AJ tended to the team and thought about pie. Takotna pie! I travel all this way and never time to stop for some Takotna pie.
10:47 am on March 7th, 2013
Greetings!
Back at the busy place today after cancelled flights, and a mishap with our luggage.
Thank you for the reports Spence, Admin, and of course, Rebecca.
Jem, you and your nose ran a great race….hope you are okay. Loving arms will be waiting for you back at the kennel.
10:48 am on March 7th, 2013
Break-Fast-Time for me…I’m Hungry as a well…Bear.
10:49 am on March 7th, 2013
But First…Hello to Wose!
10:51 am on March 7th, 2013
And “carpe” (seize) can’t be anything but a verb….I’ll get off of Latin any second now.
10:55 am on March 7th, 2013
Dawson: What is Takotna pie?
10:57 am on March 7th, 2013
B — People feel great liberty in using Latin phrases, whether correct or not. Many years ago when I was a younger lawyer, I came across a very old decision where the judge actually used a so-called Latin phrase “cum grano salto.”
10:59 am on March 7th, 2013
Whew!
Wose is home! Wose and the Professor’s trip to Alaska was in many ways symbolic of the Iditarod Trail. Things do not go exactly as planned and you have to rock and roll on anyway. Great job, city folk! I’m just pleased your sled did not break!
10:59 am on March 7th, 2013
Rose!…You are home safe and sound….yippeee!…I can’t wait to see your photos!…snort!
11:01 am on March 7th, 2013
Dawson: If I’m not mistaken, a musher can regain a loose team by any means necessary. This means they can grab a ride with another musher—just like the ride AJ gave another musher when the musher fell asleep and fell of his sled. Getting a ride on a snowmachine to get one’s team would be acceptable as well.
I believe Jem was dropped because he wasn’t in the mood to run so AJ dropped him. To force a dog to run, well, that isn’t our way. Jem is a good boy.
11:03 am on March 7th, 2013
The standings have been updated and we still have 15 dogs! Woo Hoo!
11:03 am on March 7th, 2013
B.Stover: Takotna is Sheik and Leo’s checkpoint and it is well-known for their delish pie! Pie which AJ has had to by pass two years in a row due to spending his 24 hours in McGrath fixing his sled.
Of course, I’m only guessing. Maybe AJ ran in and got a pie to go!
11:03 am on March 7th, 2013
Welcome back, Rose! Thank you for taking our photos to Alaska! Rio and I never dreamed they would be 8×10 glossies.
I cannot believe the warm temperatures the Iditarod teams are having to deal with this year.
11:07 am on March 7th, 2013
Whitey-Lance: Thanks for clarifying that rule. It makes sense because an untended team of dogs could get hurt.
I keep forgetting to say: Go Snowhook!
11:07 am on March 7th, 2013
Hi Rose, glad you are home, safe and sound.
Wookie’S Dad . . ” with a grain of salt”?
I am army acupuncturist. He has wi-fi here. Once the pins are in, I AM NOT TYPING.
YSAS has started a course that will get him a certificate in sword and shield fighting. Last night was the first night. The course kicked his patootie. snicker
He, of course, picked the largest and heaviest sword to swing around for two hours.
11:10 am on March 7th, 2013
W-L, expect Mattie to come over and nurses Jem back to tip top shape. She is in love with those blue eyes. The rest of the Little Dog Iditarod race team better hold on tight when she blurs.
11:15 am on March 7th, 2013
Melanie: I will let him know. I bet when I tell him that his nose will blush.
11:17 am on March 7th, 2013
I wonder how many of the Beloveds are running alongside AJ? My guess that he has plenty of company. Rory and Brandy for sure. And do I hear a Wookiemobile on the trail?
11:20 am on March 7th, 2013
Is an army acupuncturist better than say, a navy one?
11:23 am on March 7th, 2013
Wolfie, How is your mom’s paw this morning?
11:27 am on March 7th, 2013
Wookie’s Dad is making me laugh!
11:35 am on March 7th, 2013
Now Wolfie is making me laugh.
I hope that AJ ran in an got some Takotna pie.
11:35 am on March 7th, 2013
All youse guys make us laugh! That is a GOOD thing and we love you all for it.
11:38 am on March 7th, 2013
Cum grano salto!…Does that mean “Pass the salt” in Latin?….heh!heh!
11:42 am on March 7th, 2013
Mom is still out of commission. She is dealing with an infected cat bite, which was completely her fault. She was attempting to introduce Smoochie to Claudie, and it did not go well. She put herself on antibiotics last night, and hopefully it will calm down today.
11:45 am on March 7th, 2013
Takotna Pie to Go! That’s the way to do it.
We can be sure the Spirit Team is keeping AJ and the Snowhook dogs company on the Trail.
Not your average Iditarod team though, with Horses and Dogs running side by side.
11:50 am on March 7th, 2013
Sorry about your mom’s paw, Wolfie.
Kat scratch fever…darn those kats…when they get snippy Watch Out.
11:54 am on March 7th, 2013
Oh poor Wolfie. Mr.Staff had a cat bite that he kept saying was no big deal. Then Staff got a look at his hand (which was swollen up like a balloon) and he was in the emergency room stat. The antibiotics worked wonderfully thank dog.
11:57 am on March 7th, 2013
Mom heard from Shiek. He took over lead from Takotna to Ophir. Then he went back to Tokotna for oie.
She is finally going to a doctor later today.
11:57 am on March 7th, 2013
Snowhook is definitely an above average dog team although I don’t know if any of the teams are “average” in this adventure. Our team is diverse! Snowhook is running close to John Baker and Brent Sass – two champions. Go Snowhook!
11:57 am on March 7th, 2013
Ole? PIE!
12:05 pm on March 7th, 2013
O’Howlers: Heh, heh. We were Wondering what you were talking about.
12:18 pm on March 7th, 2013
One of these days somedoggy is going to market a dawgomamic keyboard so our paws only hit one key!
12:18 pm on March 7th, 2013
Bear, That’s a special kind of pie we here in Olé eat.
We just watched a video about the weather they are calling for enroute to Iditarod. Yikes!
Onward Snowhook!
12:20 pm on March 7th, 2013
I wonder if Wolfie’s mom should go see a doctor.
Welcome back Rose.
12:20 pm on March 7th, 2013
McGrath must be crowded this morning. the teams are beginning to spill over onto the trail-way.
12:21 pm on March 7th, 2013
Mom’s mom got a cat bite so bad that she had to go for IV antibiotics for days and the whole bottom half of her leg swelled. Bad cat skyler bad cat!
12:23 pm on March 7th, 2013
12:25 pm on March 7th, 2013
hmmm…why isn’t this working?
12:27 pm on March 7th, 2013
von more time…

12:32 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wolfie, Tell your mom not to feel bad about it being her fault. My mom has got dog bit before and it was all her fault. (not me, I am not guilty)
Fellow Sibers, We are glad your mom is givng up and going to the doctor today.
12:41 pm on March 7th, 2013
(Whispering) Siber, don’t say she is giving up or she may change her mind. She is as stubborn as one of our kind. That’s the only way a 2-legged can put up with the likes of us guys.
12:50 pm on March 7th, 2013
All the pins are gone and back home.
I would have to say that since The Raven was in the Navy, Navy accupuncturiest are the best.
Will be back. Need to look at OFT.
1:04 pm on March 7th, 2013
While Mackey, Lindner & King snooze Buser plans to fly on by.
shhhhh no barking.
1:09 pm on March 7th, 2013
All of youse with infections or THINK you have infections, Get thee to the Doctory!
If it was a virus, that’s one thing. Bacterial Infection? Take the anti-biotics and thank Dog for Science!
1:12 pm on March 7th, 2013
Melanie: Our favorite Team?
The street out front is being plowed by a huge Cat machine. The piles of snow descending upon themselves with the season’s supply of gravel intermixed to a light brown lining the sides of the street, 4 feet to 12 feet high. It’s melting.
Go Snowhook!
1:20 pm on March 7th, 2013
Today is my last day on the antibiotic. Oley’s Mom, thats what you need.
1:23 pm on March 7th, 2013
Here’s what the Iditard Trail Committee had to say about the 35 miles of Trail into Iditarod that was used by the snow machines and really made it difficult for some of the teams.
“I think we will have to wait until the next bunch hits Iditarod but maybe an interview with Martin will cover it.”
Yes, Our Favorite Team. Glad that I don’t have to shovel that mix of snow and gravel Dawson.

Thank you for posting it, Rose.
Now tell us about your lost luggage…you did get it back, right?
1:33 pm on March 7th, 2013
Oh…there’s more…there’s more.
Wonderful photos galore!
1:38 pm on March 7th, 2013
Thank you Rose! Great pictures! They are both very pretty sled dog girls.
1:39 pm on March 7th, 2013
We are loving these photos. Did we ever learn who the Iditarider is?
1:39 pm on March 7th, 2013
Masquers,
It seemed that our bags enjoyed Chicago so much, they wanted to stay there. Our bags arrived on the flight following ours from Chicago, so Prof and I had to go back to the airport to get them.
It is pretty yucky to take a shower, and have to put dirty clothes back on.
1:42 pm on March 7th, 2013
Ceremonial start
1:48 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wose, Did you know we were never able to locate you on the video of the Ceremonial Start, or the Restart? Were you able to watch those on Insider yet? If so, tell us if you are there somewhere.
1:53 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rose: Just so happy you and the Prof had a nice place to stay on your layover in the Windy City.
And, the wayward luggage did finally arrive. Doesn’t the airline usually deliver it to you? Or would that have meant a longer delay?
2:04 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wose: We think Your Photos Are Better than some of the Professional Photographers. Good job!
A Bunch of Mushers are stopped or camped along the Trail some 41 miles out from Ophir.
Burmeister is racing to catch up so Buser better be thinking about moving out soon.
2:05 pm on March 7th, 2013
Heh. A Menagerie of Mushers.
2:11 pm on March 7th, 2013
AJ has stopped….snack or rest?
2:17 pm on March 7th, 2013
This coming weekend is Mardi Gras here at Holiday Valley. Here’s a snow sculpture in progress.

2:19 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wonderful pics Rose! Thank you for letting us live vicariously.
Howlers – please tell your mom that all strong, tough, independent and gorgeous women go to doctors when they are ill.
And check out this link. No bad or sad news, promise. Just interesting.

Sawatsky has scratched. Wasn’t he the one with Buser’s puppies?
2:25 pm on March 7th, 2013
Mollys Mom: Love the snow sculpture! Looks like a fun time.
Whoa. Can this be right? 54 DEGREES past the Iditarod checkpoint?
Royals: Going to check out your link now.
2:31 pm on March 7th, 2013
Masquers,
I’m not sure what United’s policy on baggage is, the Prof and I just wanted all our clothes back asap. My all important shower cap was in my checked in bag. GAH!
2:34 pm on March 7th, 2013
OHs: Shame on me. I am not an Insider member, so I can only see the standings.
2:38 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rose, you and “Grizzled” (I believe that is his new nickname?) look right at home up there in the North. I didn’t realize that the hotels were unheated.
Great pictures!
2:40 pm on March 7th, 2013
Thank you Rose! I especially like the picture of your VBFF and Luna. Beautiful dogs.
Matt Failor has Buser pups but there may be more – they have a lot of dogs.
Masquers: The day is heating up a lot too hot.
2:47 pm on March 7th, 2013
2:47 pm on March 7th, 2013
Siber: We think it’s the heat that bringing everyone to a halt.
2:48 pm on March 7th, 2013
Matt Failor is running a B team. Someone else is running his puppies.
2:53 pm on March 7th, 2013
Now I see the temp quoted was from yesterday…it’s still way too warm for racing…40 degrees at Iditarod.
2:55 pm on March 7th, 2013
Snack or rest, you ask? Both. He will rest the team during the heat of the day. I don’t expect him to make a move until this afternoon. It’s too warm for the dogs.
2:58 pm on March 7th, 2013
Whitey: Yet some are still racing.
3:00 pm on March 7th, 2013
We thought there was supposed to be a storm coming thru that would lower the temp and provide new snow! What happened?
Speaking of cat bites, when mom and dad were moving (a couple of houses ago) one of her very shy cats got scared and bit her little finger in the top joint. It got infected and a week later she was in the ehospital having emergency surgery. And that was after a week of antibiotics. She will never forget the surgeon saying “I’ll try to save your finger” right before they knocked her out. Luckily, she still has the finger even though that top joint is fused straight. And that cat lived a long happy life.
Sure wish Jem had felt like running. What if we need to “win by a nose?” He would give us a great advantage then!
3:02 pm on March 7th, 2013
Whitey, what does a sled dog find in his dish come supper time? On the trail, I mean.
3:04 pm on March 7th, 2013
Boy, that grammar was way off. We made it sound like the cat was the bitten, not the biter. Mom got bitten and had the surgery.
3:08 pm on March 7th, 2013
Gus&BooBear: Scary Story!
Aside to Wolfie: Tell your mom Not to self-medicate.
3:12 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wose – Your pictures and your experiences make me think that I really must do the Iditarod next year. What’s that about unheated hotels?
3:13 pm on March 7th, 2013
We were just reading about Anvik. It says the Alaskan Millennium Alaskan Hotel serves a Seven Course Dinner to the first musher to arrive…along with a cash award.
Guess I’ll meet youse over there.
3:29 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sam’s Girl is having a great sophomore year at school. First it was the Dean’s List, next she was elected to be on the Board of Committee and Standards, now today a faculty member nominated her to be a Writing Colleague. I don’t know what those last two really mean, but she did have a few hearings on plagiarism cases.
3:29 pm on March 7th, 2013
We were reading about Anvik too. The Native people’s name for it is Deloy ges, which means “so-called mountain” There is a traditional story that Raven was walking along the river and came to a big pile of dirt. He thought it would make a good mountain, so he tried to climb to the top to make it so. But every time he climbed up, the dirt would slide down, bringing Raven with it. After many attempts and failures, Raven grew angry, and hit the dirt pile 7 times with his stick. There, he said – so much for that so-called mountain!
3:34 pm on March 7th, 2013
Oh – we forgot an important part of the story. The Native people know this story is true because there are 7 big gulches in the mountain where Deloy ges is.
3:44 pm on March 7th, 2013
MollyPop’s Mom: How proud all youse must be. Especially little Sammie.
Royals: We LOVE your Mama’s Stories.
Speaking of Anvik, we just noticed that it is hosted by Macy Min-Pin and her Small Dog Iditarod Team. That means Mattie will be there too. Another big appetite. Save some for me!
3:50 pm on March 7th, 2013
And in the Native language, Shageluk means “village of the dog people”. How perfect is that?
3:51 pm on March 7th, 2013
You just don’t know where the Raven is going to show up next.
Congratulations to Sammy for having such a wonderful girl!
Heat of the day. Yuck. The Yukon is supposed to have major wind but warm.
Not good.
3:52 pm on March 7th, 2013
MollyPop’s Mom, The picture of the Giants with Rose? They are still in their winter jackets.
3:54 pm on March 7th, 2013
Bear, there’s nothing to be proud of. That Dean guy was supposed to toss her out on the street. She was coming home to me!
3:55 pm on March 7th, 2013
Miss Macy: That is a good question. My Giant takes special care to have a variety of food on the trail. We will always have kibble when we camp and soup. The soup is meat, usually beef, soaked in water. He will also give the dogs snacks when he does a quick rest on the trail sometimes it is beef or lamb, chicken or fish. He wants us to eat well and stay hydrated. And, what goes in, must come out. He also pays close attention to how we process—my Lady says I have to watch my language in mixed company—our food.
4:01 pm on March 7th, 2013
Oh, Sammie, I forgot how hard this is on You.
4:49 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sammy, there is still hope that she will be tossed out.
Rose, Great pictures!
Amalia, Great stories!
Raven gets around!
4:50 pm on March 7th, 2013
Thank you, Bear. This is all about me.
4:59 pm on March 7th, 2013
Princess Sam: There is always hope. Congratulations to your girl!
Macy: You are right. Matt Failor is running the B team of Buser dogs, not the puppy team.
In the heat of the our amazing Snowhook team gets some well-deserved rest.
T&G: “So called mountain.” I like that.
5:00 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sammy, Want me to grab Mr. Dean by the pant leg?

An article about the Iditarod Air Force:
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/20130305/above-trail-iditarod-air-force-manages-unwieldy-race-nome
This article opens talking about the plane crash yesterday (which was not part of the Iditarod Air Force) and then goes into the history.
5:05 pm on March 7th, 2013
That is great about Sam’s girl.
5:12 pm on March 7th, 2013
Oh Kat, yes, yes, please. Give him what-for but good.
5:15 pm on March 7th, 2013
CHarris, Thank you. That is a very interesting article. Now mom wants to read the book the author of that article wrote.
5:39 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sam, maybe your girl will flunk out and come live with you forever and ever.
5:42 pm on March 7th, 2013
Dad is taking mom and her paw to the clinic tonight. She has been putting it off because this means she will have to shower and get dressed. She would much rather lay around feeling sorry for herself.
5:44 pm on March 7th, 2013
Wolfie, I am glad your mom is going to the clinic.
6:15 pm on March 7th, 2013
Melanie, the Prof was given the nickname Grizzly after a few days in Alaska. He became a musher, handler, and dog whisperer in just a week’s stay. Did I say I am quitting my job, and going to work as a handler for AJ and Rebecca?
I will live with the sparkly Belle Starr and all the rest of the Snowhook doggies.
6:16 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sammie, I am so proud of you girl!
6:23 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rose, you and the prof are naturals!
6:30 pm on March 7th, 2013
Sammy, is the mean Mr. Dean the same guy who makes the sausages?
Momma came home from the doctor. She wants me to tell Wolfie that she agrees the main reason to not got to the doc is that then you have to shower and dress. The doc does not think Momma’s infection is bacterial and does not hear any bronchitis in her chest. She did give Momma proscrip-something for her cough and to knock her out at night, so that she quits keeping me awake.
6:38 pm on March 7th, 2013
Martin Buser is on the move…4 miles out from Iditarod.
6:42 pm on March 7th, 2013
Buser has a “sound system” on his sled so he can play music for the dogs while they are on the trail. In one of the interview videos when he was at Iditarod, you can hear City of New Orleans playing in the background.
7:08 pm on March 7th, 2013
Kat: I’ve had that cough perscription and it really works.
Why has AJ been stopped for so long?
7:13 pm on March 7th, 2013
What have I been doing all evening? Well, if this works . . Heh, heh, heh
7:15 pm on March 7th, 2013
Here we go?
http://chetthedog.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/greenflagmove.m4a
7:15 pm on March 7th, 2013
We heard Willie singing on Buser’s sled. How do those guys keep batteries working on a sound system, or on The Giant’s iPaw for that matter?
Bee, We think our team is waiting for the sun to sink so that hopefully it cools down. All of the mushers in Iditarod say the trail conditions are awful. Poor dogs. Poor mushers. We need COLD!
7:16 pm on March 7th, 2013
I would say that’s a big no. Hmmm. Guess I’ll have to send it in email. Snigglefritz.
7:20 pm on March 7th, 2013
Check your SDDs!
7:23 pm on March 7th, 2013
That was great, Melanie! we’ll be humming/singing that one night long.
7:35 pm on March 7th, 2013
I had an insider video that was not working. It was “them” and not me, so I emailed them to please fix it. They emailed me back and fixed it. I am a pleased Husky.
7:37 pm on March 7th, 2013
It is 42 degrees where AJ is right now. This is crazy.
7:39 pm on March 7th, 2013
Okay, this is weird. The Royals’ Mum can use the link and I CAN’T make it work.
7:56 pm on March 7th, 2013
Melanie! It worked! His little green flag is moving!
7:58 pm on March 7th, 2013

8:22 pm on March 7th, 2013
MollyPop’s Mom, Going to the Iditarod is the thrill of a lifetime!!! Don’t worry about hotels not being heated. Remember, layers are the secret of warmth!

ROSE!!….What grrrrreat photos!….snort!….That’s what I’m talking about!….Wooooo!
Melanie!…Beau and I were able to listen to the little green flag song. Was that you singing?….wheeze!
8:25 pm on March 7th, 2013
Grizzley!…That’s a perfect name for the Prof. There is a Grizzley Rose western dance hall and saloon somewhere in this here state…heh!heh!
8:26 pm on March 7th, 2013
Belle Starr? Are you snuggling with your two-legged? I have been sneezing in the Prof’s face….I caught a cold while I was visiting you, and now I have a cold, wet nose.
8:26 pm on March 7th, 2013
ROSE!…Someday you will have to sit down and write about all your adventures getting to Alaska, being in Alaska, and leaving Alaska!…snort!…We all want to know every detail!…chuffle!
8:27 pm on March 7th, 2013
This is too true for comfort!

8:27 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rio, Mom followed a car today, whose license plate was “Pug Power”.
8:28 pm on March 7th, 2013
Macy, you are too funny!
8:32 pm on March 7th, 2013
Newton Marshall is behind the Trail Sweep, at Nikolai. The Standings don’t even report how many dogs he has. Do youse think maybe he is going to scratch?
8:33 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rio! Really? A saloon named after me and Grizzly?
Prof and I will be working on a project about our time in Alaska, that will share with youse guys.
I will post some pictures tomorrow.
Rio, did I tell you we some moose? We did not eat moose head stew….
8:36 pm on March 7th, 2013
Howlers, I think it is possible Marshall will scratch.
8:40 pm on March 7th, 2013
It is time for me to say nighty night. I am still trying to catch up on sleep, and now we have to switch our clocks an hour ahead this weekend.
The Prof and I are thinking about AJ and his team, and hoping that Rebecca can get some sleep.
Whitey-Lance, please make sure your Lady locks the door…
Over and out.
8:42 pm on March 7th, 2013
Melanie: Please check your SDD, quick like a Newf.
8:44 pm on March 7th, 2013
They released at 430 that Newton scratched. He has a missing dog, Mae. Having been there before, the constant prayer in my heart has begun.
8:47 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rose!…Awwwrrrgh! Everyong around here hates that time-change…grunt!…Everyone but her mother and Beau. The way they figure, they get to go to bed one hour earlier…grumble!
8:50 pm on March 7th, 2013
Good to hear from you Rose, and glad you got you luggage back.
Again we are signing off early. Busy day tomorrow, with P.T. and lunch with a friend. Sweet dreams all.
Go Snowhook!
8:50 pm on March 7th, 2013
Poor Mae. We are sending prayers also.
8:54 pm on March 7th, 2013
Buser is following the Trail Breaker. One can only Imagine what condition it is in (the trail, not the trail breaker)
Prayers for the Missing Mae and her frantic musher.
We are going to turn in Early. There is an early appointment looming on the horizon.
So After the Prayer it’s Nightal – Bear
8:54 pm on March 7th, 2013
Oh no. Poor Mae. Plunderer prayer for Mae is needed.
8:59 pm on March 7th, 2013
Deja’vu!… This missing dawg brings back memories…snort!…I sure hope she is as smart as Whitey and finds her way to her pack very soon…sniff!
Howlers!…It’s like you are being haunted by my very essence lately…heh!heh!
9:00 pm on March 7th, 2013
Creator – thank you for this day of joy. The joy of running under a cold clear sky. The joy of lifting voices in song to celebrate the miles skimming by. The joy of coming home.
Creator – you have given every living thing a home; a place to belong to. As each bird has the sky, and every fish has water, so each of us have our home. As every wolf has its den and every deer has its thicket, so each of us has the place where we feel safe at the end of the day where we feel welcomed; where we can feel at rest.
Tonight AJ and the team will pass the halfway point of their journey. Tonight, they are no longer traveling further from home and the hearts that wait for them there. Tonight, the distance home gets closer with each passing mile.
Tonight we ask you to lift the spirits and give wings to the running feet that bring the team ever closer to home. We ask you to lighten the weight on Rebecca’s heart, and let her hear the sounds of her loved ones coming home to her.
Let the names of the villages be music to their running. Iditarod – far distant place. Shageluk – village of dog people. Deloy ges – so called mountain.
Tonight, let the spirits of their ancestors join in the harnesses of the team. Let the strength of all our furred loved ones in the stars be a part of the running. Let our beloved animals help bring this team home.
Creator – tonight we ask you to let each of us feel those same spirits; the spirits of our loved animals come home to our hearts. Let their memory fill us with the joy they gave us in life, and let us dance with them in the home our happiness creates.
Creator – thank you for this day of joy. The joy of running under a cold clear sky. The joy of lifting voices in song to celebrate the miles skimming by. The joy of seeing the loved ones we have missed when we have the joy of coming home.
9:04 pm on March 7th, 2013

9:15 pm on March 7th, 2013
Light on the trail for the missing Mae to find her way back to her musher and team.
9:16 pm on March 7th, 2013
My mama’s stomach is starting to hurt. She said it was this way in 2010. She also says I had something to do with it, but I’m not sure exactly what role I played. I was too busy wandering to pay attention to much else.
All of us here are praying for Mae’s protection and that those who are searching for her will be guided to Mae in short order. My mama says, Newton will also need prayers of comfort for having to scratch from the race, but this is the lesser of the worry right now. Mae is the main concern.
9:18 pm on March 7th, 2013
Amen.
9:19 pm on March 7th, 2013
Amen. HOH has paws crossed in prayer for Mae.
Mel: didn’t know your talents…scooping poo and singing too!
Rose: good to have you back.
Everyone: Get healthy.
9:25 pm on March 7th, 2013
Macy, we here love your cartoon. It is all too true for us, also.
9:27 pm on March 7th, 2013
Masquers, Nice photo.
It is 46 degrees where Mike Ellis and his Sibers are right now.
9:31 pm on March 7th, 2013

9:48 pm on March 7th, 2013
Amen.
9:51 pm on March 7th, 2013
Iditarod!….So, this should be a check point The Giant and the A-team blows through tonight, right? No pie, no spaghetti supper, no inside bedroom, no running water, no cable…snort!
9:54 pm on March 7th, 2013
Whew, Patsy and I are curled up with the matress pad at high. Since the fan is also on I am adorned in my neck warmer and hat. She jumps on the bed when she gets cold and off when she has a hot flash.
Find a smooth trail, Snowhook. I’ll check in later.
TTFN
9:57 pm on March 7th, 2013
This trail is really rough. We think our team will have to take a break in Iditarod. Hope we’re wrong.
9:59 pm on March 7th, 2013
I was looking at the analytics, and the high point at Rainy Pass was 20 feet different for Buser and AJ. Heh-heh
10:04 pm on March 7th, 2013
Macy!…She is really getting into the Race Analysis particulars…snort!…Maybe next year she can sign up to be an Insider Common-Tator…chuffle!

Redbone!…Brother, I am so low on Shine it is a sin. You got any with you tonight?…snuff!…I was wondering if you were going to check in on this winter-time sport or not…heh!heh!
10:16 pm on March 7th, 2013
Thank you, Rio and Masquers. Somewhere in the past, in a book, I have seen some photos of Iditarod. The book was about the history of mining in the interior of Alaska and not sled dogs.
I think the condition of he trail must be miserable.
10:23 pm on March 7th, 2013
Brother Rio – son, do you think this here ‘shine makes isself? Ah done bin out in the back forty, outten the way of them reveenooers, jist tryin to stockpile enuf shine to git thru one o your backyard harmonica an geetar parties.
Oh, an Miz Sharon and your Herd – nice ta meet cha. Us Suthern folks gotta stick together.
10:27 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rio: The team will have to rest in Iditarod. With poor trail conditions and high temperatures, it is a slog. Slog? Is that a real word? I don’t know. I just wrote it because it sounds about right. AJ will probably arrive in Iditarod in the middle of the night and then rest for five or six hours before moving further down the trail.
10:28 pm on March 7th, 2013
Redbone!…Well, wot the hell you been doing all winter long?…snort!..I thought you was out there makin’ shine..sneeze!…Not laying around like some ole hound-dawg…grunt!
10:30 pm on March 7th, 2013
Rebecca!…drat the weather!…grump!…And me with no Shine…sniff!
10:30 pm on March 7th, 2013
Siber: There are some interesting stories about Iditarod and the millions upon millions in gold found there. Hard to believe it is only a ghost town now.
Ally is right behind Buser with Bermeister only a few miles back.
10:33 pm on March 7th, 2013
Brother Rio – well Ah do have some other things to tend to. Gotta grow a lotta corn to make a lotta shine.
10:34 pm on March 7th, 2013
I just noticed how close Aliy is to Buser.
10:44 pm on March 7th, 2013
Brother!…Corn growing is yer summer-time job…snort!…Shine makin’ is yer winter-time job…sniff!…I thought we had an understanding about this timetable…grunt!
10:58 pm on March 7th, 2013
Night all
I hope AJ and the dogs have a good rest in my checkpoint and that the trail isn’t too rough getting there. We will be checking on them first thing in the morning.
Praying for a safe and quick return of Mae.
11:04 pm on March 7th, 2013
I looked at the dog in the airplane on the link about the Iditarod Air Force and though he looked a lot like Jem. I put the picture of Jem up and it is really close but Jem has blue eyes so I am pretty sure it isn’t him. But golly I though so for a minute.
11:26 pm on March 7th, 2013
I am tired from shoveling out the driveway after the plow went through. I need my bed with all my favorite pillows piled in it just right. And Abbie wants food.
Prayers for Mae. I am glad Justin and the team have so many protectors helping along the trail.
Goodnighty noodles.
12:02 am on March 8th, 2013
Hey there sugar doodle! I would not recommend sled racing for you, ’cause you might trip on your cute ears, or drag them in the snow.
Dainty licks. On the Alaska map, I found Submarine Lake. Maybe we could meet up there and watch some races. *blush*
12:14 am on March 8th, 2013
Why Miz Macy – Ah would just be tickled pink to meet up with you, but could we find somewhere just a mite warmer than Alaska?
12:44 am on March 8th, 2013
A&L: Thank you for the prayer.
Prayers for Mae to be found.
Our Snowhook Team is slogging their little hearts out toward Iditarod. I am so impressed with them.
Hi Redbone! It’s warm in Alaska.
G’day to Liz.

Prayer for AJ and the team and Rebecca
and Mae.
Back to bed…
5:05 am on March 8th, 2013
It’s 1 am in AK and 35 degrees where AJ is running. I ink the word slog is a perfect way to describe what is happening. The team is almost into Iditarod. May they find some rest. And comfort.
6:19 am on March 8th, 2013
Good morning. AJ just got to Iditarod, and now it is 39 degrees at least according to the Iditarod weather page. Slog it is.
Mitch Seavey is now ahead of Alley. Buser just reached the Yukon.
6:29 am on March 8th, 2013
Thank you for the lovely prayer, A&L. Amen.
I hope Mae is safe and returned to her pack safely.
Rio and Mr. Redbone! The Prof and I had some of the best shine ever in Alaska.
Mick, the person, not the dog makes something mighty tasty called Apple Pie.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said
“You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
