“Okay,” Spence says. “The Iditarod is the greatest sled dog race on the planet, held every March in Alaska. Chetthedog.com, the wonderful Plunderers associated with the blog – and anyone new who wants to get involved – are helping to sponsor the team from the Snowhook Kennel. The Snowhook people are just terrific, their dogs are superb, and their philosophy is humane and loving. Competing in the race and properly caring for the team cost money, and Snowhook does it in a way that gives back real value. Today, for example (exact time and link to be posted in the Comments section by a Plunderer, I hope), they are opening their Mushers Mercantile Christmas Store. Lots of great things to buy and all of them donated by the Plunderers. All proceeds will go directly to Snowhook Kennel to help cover the cost of running in the 2012 Iditarod. Plunder on!”

Good morning. Barb was trying to explain the time thingy to me, but it went over my head. Sooo, I woke her up at 4:45. Not sure what she was fussing about.
We have had our breakfast and are ready to spend money today.
Does anyone read Luanne Rice? We picked up our first book by her, The Edge of Winter, and it is really good. No dogs or kats, but the main characters are nature lovers, birders, and it has a lot of detail about bird rescue and rehabing, set in New England.

I think the confusion about the store is my fault and i apologize. I was up early and read someplace (I think it was on Rebecca’s site) that the store was open. I checked it out and made the post. There is something funny though. If I go to snowhookkennel and then to the store, I see a lot more inventory than I see if I go to the store from
B’s link. There must be a reason for this happening; I just don’t understand it.
In any case, I apologize for jumping the gun. Mea culpa.

Good morning, Plunderers! Have you ever been in the midst of a construction project to find that something wasn’t up to code? That was me last night. I was ready to turn in early this morning and tried to save the finishing touches. One problem. It wouldn’t save. Try as I might, swear as I did, and cry as I wanted, the program wouldn’t save my work.
I’ve spent the night on the phone with customer service and in the end had to tear down what I built and start over. Gulp.
It was a bigger gulp this morning when a certain pug emailed me to tell me there was a problem. In trying to be efficient and build the online store how it would need to be at 9am my time, I didn’t stop to thinkg that it might lead to early shopping.
The idea to open at 9am my time wasn’t so I could sleep in on a Sunday morning, but to make sure everyone had a fair chance at all the wonderful items. If you’ve had the chance to see, you know that, indeed the Plunderers were very generous with the items they submitted.
Whew. This is a lot more long winded than I thought I would be, but I do have a favor. In my mind, I was still working against the 9am timeframe, and I’d like to hold on that time.
It will help me make sure all the items are presented well, the PayPal links work, etc.
Can someone get me a valium? Better get my friend, the pug one, too. 🙂

Here’s one for you. Ekphrasis or ecphrasis is the graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art. In ancient times it referred to a description of any thing, person, or experience. The word comes from the Greek ek and phrasis, ‘out’ and ‘speak’ respectively, verb ekphrazein, to proclaim or call an inanimate object by name.
It’s funny that you should mention it. When I was teaching, there was one English teacher who had her kids look at my photographs and write a poem. I used to give her a pile of pictures, and each student chose one to write about. They did some great work. I have copies which I’ve put away somewhere in the archives of my teaching days.

Probably the most famous example of ekphrasis (and I still can’t find the word with “k” or “c” in a dictionary which is strange) is Keats’ “Ode On a Grecian Urn.” One of my favorites is Auden’s “Musee des Beaux Arts.”

Interesting update on Natasha!
While watching “Due South” Season 3 Episode “Eclipse”, Constable Fraser and Detective Vecchio (the stranger) are staking out a crypt. Diefenbaker, Fraser’s deaf Wolfdog, is seen cavorting in the graveyard stealing flowers from graves.
Ray wants to know what Diefenbaker is doing, but as we all know about the canine breed, his companion Fraser has no idea. At the end of the episode, we hear Diefenbaker howling. Cut to Diefenbaker sitting amongst all the flowers he’s collected in front of a beautifully carved headstone of an Afghan hound. The word Natasha inscribed on the front.
What does this mean? is our Natasha gone? Or is this another ploy by the world’s greatest spy?

Ah, Natty…checking in. After the Due South episode we didn’t know what to think. It is a relief to hear from you. I see the current time in Moscow is 9:42 pm. Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-ninth of the Earth’s land area…extending across the whole of Northern Asia and 40@ of Europe…spanning 9 time zones. Consequently, Moscow time may or may not be the same as in Siberia where you are.

Hi everyone! We just came to the blog to check in and see if the MMCS was open yet. And Yikes! We see that we have been missing the boat by not being here earlier.
Ok – first order of business – Mama says she will offer another DreamCatcher to the MMCS, just so there aren’t any mixups about who can buy what, when. Rebecca can just post the same one again and Mama will make the next one the same size and as similar as possible.
Second order – how do we get to the store? – or is it sold out already? Damm, Gilly WANTED to get up at 4 this morning and stand outside the door, but we said there wasn’t any need to do that. So now, she is mad and won’t speak to us. She is afraid that there were some Salmon Balls for sale that she has missed out on.

Snigglefritz! I’ve been cleaning and oiling a 1930’s Westclox electric clock. I finally got the innards working!!! It’s one that has to be started manually even though it’s an electric. I was so proud!

The earthquake was in Oklahoma, where the wind comes whistling down the plain. Except this time it was an earthquake quivering the land.
Felt in several states. Texas being one of them. They’ve been having level 3 aftershocks today.

Yes, “our” earthquake was actually Oklahoma’s earthquake, but when your stuff is shakin, it doesn’t much matter where the state line is.
We do seem to be on Somebody’s hit list. We could use a small flood. Does a plaque of crickets equal a plaque of locusts? If so, add that to our list. Plus all the oak trees are pelting us with acorns *ouch* every time we go out.
We are happy to see that 2 cute bears will be going to their forever homes soon. If there was a market for beanie babies, mom could fill the shop herself.

We finally saw a dog today with one black ear and one white ear!!! It was a border collie type. Mom and I were walking by and the guy was just standing there with the dog on a leash. Mom came to a screaching halt and looked at the dog for the longest time. It took her awhile to really believe what she was seeing. I’m sure the dog’s human thought mom was nuts, and I kept trying to get mom to just move on and not stare.

Close Encounters: 2005 YU55 – is the second asteroid hurling towards Earth and is reported to be larger than an aircraft carrier. It will be passing between the Earth and the Moon, traveling in a 180 degree arc across the sky, on November 7, 8, 9 & 10th. It will not be visible with the naked eye, but may be seen with the aid of an amateur six inch telescope on Tuesday, November 8th.

Fishing!… M&M my friend wants that vest too…sniff!…I don’t know why because she never goes fishing. I guess she just wishes she was someone who did go fishing all the time….wuffle! ….Don’t worry about the size, they are supposed to be loose and hanging all about, aren’t they?…heh! …I thought I read where it was adjustable…hmmm!

Supper!… Not only did my someone make Cabbage Rolls today, she is also making her wonderful spicy meatloaf tonight…sniff!sniff!…It smells absolutely Hot in here. Her mother will not be eating much tonight because she is very very very tired. A certain someone who will remain nameless kept her up all night last night barking at imaginary raccoons…grunt!… You just never know if they are really out there or not…heh!

I don’t think we have to worry about that asteroid colliding with the earth on this pass.
The day they discovered it, I read that it is unlikely that it will hit anyplace on earth within the next century. That’s at least one thing we don’t have to worry about this week.

Rio, NO My mom did not say anything to the guy with the dog with one white ear. Mom definately did stand there with her mouth open. I think she was struck speachless, getting tired, and sunburned (stupid on her part) and wouldn’t know where to begin if she started talking to the guy.
Knowing my mom, she would have started talking to the dog instead of the guy anyway.
We saw several pugs today.

Macy: Loved the Kat photo. I had a cat that hated snow or water. Made it my fault . . . I can still see him walking slowly through snow, lifting a paw and shaking it before putting it down and doing the same with all of the other three.
I know it “says” that it’s just past 8:30 pm but my body does not agree, early but not really to bed.

T & G, Glad you are sending more dream catchers, because we ordered one today, hoping that there would be one there for us. It is for 5 yr. old Ben, who sleeps with one by his bed. Will make a nice Christmas gift, and wait till we tell him it was hand made by our friend!

Well, I’m up again and willing to have Chet catch the perp who made the snigglefritzed stuffed monkey that has the call on the same wave length of a puppy!
Gracie found it under a sofa and has been all over today holding it her mouth and making a nest on my bed. So when I went to go to sleep it flipped off and started that carpolaed call! That got Patsy going and I’m just now getting her calmed down enough to sleep.

I hope all the items are going to their correct people. I’m putting on quiet music (Mozart for Mutts) and hoping Patsy will go back to sleep.

Very cool day shopping on the MMCS!! We got the two items we wanted (we think). Haven’t heard directly from Rebecca yet, but THINK we got one of Macy’s bears and(ahem)the Zuni Fetish Bear!! Mom is so excited. It was stated earlier by someone that if you purchased something already sold, your money would be refunded. But hopefully, that won’t be the case and we really have the items. The items Mom donated are marked sold too so that’s good. They will be shipped as soon as we know where to send them.
Mom really wants one of Jay’s pictures, but not real sure if the budget will allow after today’s shopping. But maybe?????
Rio or Rebecca, how long will the store be operating? If we chose to donate another item, could we still do that?

Did I mention we recieved over a foot of snow last night. It is knee deep on me, but I’m sure to a giant like AJ it is ankle deep.
