Iditarod
“The race is on,” Spence says. “And they covered the first two hundred miles in record time, something about a river being very smooth this year.”
“Think Chet would be interested in that sort of competition?” says Admin.
What a question! And now that I know a little about snow – that’s in The Dog Who Knew Too Much – I’m more interested than ever. Where’s Alaska and how long will it take to get there in the Porsche? Although now that I think of it, the Porsche is a bit of a problem right now.
“Pretty eventful so far,” Spence is saying. “Five time winner Rick Swenson fell between the Finger Lake and Rainy Pass checkpoints – “
“Love those names!” says Admin.
” – maybe breaking his collarbone, and four-time champ Martin Buser arrived at Rainy Pass with only eleven dogs, five somehow getting loose and checking in later on their own. Remind you of anybody?”
For some reason they’re both suddenly gazing at me. I gaze at them right back.
Welcome dude with large treat.

Chet you are wonderful. I too like a dog with a mind of his own.
SH is going to love this post. Guess I’ll have to do some research especially about the five dogs that got loose. I like those place names also.
Good morning all.
8:27 am on March 8th, 2011
The Porsche is always in convertible mode isn’t it? Alaska…that would be interesting.
Admin: When is the Robbie novel coming out?

Good Morning Everyone, and Happy Fat Tuesday!!
8:51 am on March 8th, 2011
Erin Brockovich was interviewed on CNN. She has written a new novel, Rock Bottom, about an environmental crusader.
Rio: I missed The Event. You didn’t remind me.
8:53 am on March 8th, 2011
Good morning Rose. Someone I know is eating punchkis…..not me.
8:54 am on March 8th, 2011
Morning Chet!
I think that if the Porsche was working you could put in a bunch of straw and a lot of blankets. That’s what some of the mushers use for their dogs. Then when it snows, Bernie and Chet would have a layer of 32 degrees on them so they wouldn’t feel the wind chill. Bernie might not be able to see anything, so he would need goggles.
Wow, I love trying to think before I’ve had cocoa!
Morning B. Stover, Off to read the last page from yesterday.
8:56 am on March 8th, 2011
Good morning everyone. Bee, we were going to say the same about today’s post. Siber loves the Iditarod. Glad those 5 dogs made it back ok. Wonder if they just followed the rest of their team in to the next check point.
9:04 am on March 8th, 2011
Hi Rose, I’m thinking pancakes tonight!
Morning B & M!
Zoë snitched the “Hotel at . .” book and finished it while I was finishing another. She really liked it. One of her childhood friends was in the camps.
9:11 am on March 8th, 2011
Hi Bee:
Forgive my ignorance. Punchkis? I may partake in a bit of debauchery and some snacking before Lent.
9:12 am on March 8th, 2011
Good Morning, all.
My guess is that the Wandering Five had themselves one fabulous day. I can just picture themselves trotting into camp grinning from ear to ear.
9:13 am on March 8th, 2011
C.Harris: I’m sorry for your community’s loss.
Macy: why was Belle bummed again?
Siber-H: “slowberians” snicker, in obedience trials when Newfoundland are working, they will do tasks perfectly but in “Newfy time”!
So sled with Newfoundlands pulling would be due in around May.
9:14 am on March 8th, 2011
Morning Wölfie!
9:20 am on March 8th, 2011
Hi Melanie!
Chocolate chip?
9:28 am on March 8th, 2011
Nope, just non-gluten pancakes with real maple syrup from this area!
9:34 am on March 8th, 2011
C.Harris, Found your link from last night, thanks. I try to remember to check that Anchorage newspaper every day during the Iditarod because they have such good coverage. I also like to look at that newspaper online throughout the year.
We are very sorry about the loss of the teacher. That is going to be hard on all of you.
9:38 am on March 8th, 2011
Melanie:
We only use real maple syrup at our house too! (My hubby uses it to sweeten his tea). It is very yummy, but VERY expensive to buy in NY.
9:39 am on March 8th, 2011
Read about some of the Iditarod dogs on C.Harris’s link from last night. Some of those dogs weigh only 35-40 lbs. That is much smaller than we thought they would be. Would have guessed 50-60 lbs.
Where will Natasha show up today?
9:42 am on March 8th, 2011
Iditarod!… I bet those five guys are Whitey’s fan club!…heh!… Just running around doing what their idol did last year, only they were smart enough to find their way to a checkpoint…snort!…These are trained Huskies. I can’t even imagine what a non-trained husky or SiberH would be like….wheeze!
9:43 am on March 8th, 2011
Rose: I’m spelling it phonetically. It’s really paczki with a diacritical mark (ogonek) under the “a” which I can’t produce with my keyboard.
I read a really interesting article about them. They were originally made to use up the lard and sweets in the house before Lent. The article has pictures. mardi gras!

9:46 am on March 8th, 2011
Thanks for remembering the Iditarod, Chet. Here is wishing all the dogs a safe and happy journey.
9:52 am on March 8th, 2011
I was wrong last week when I said that Whitey’s musher wasn’t doing the Iditarod this year. He is and Whitey is in the team. I’ll keep you guys posted as to how they are doing.
9:54 am on March 8th, 2011
Thanks, Bee! Looks and sounds yummy!!
9:57 am on March 8th, 2011
SiberH!… …Now I will have to follow the race. Who is Whitey’s musher? How do we know what team that crazy guy is on?….snorkel!
9:59 am on March 8th, 2011
Siber-H: I can’t find Rogue Kennels doing the race. Last year they had they dogs that were shelter, not wanted and rescued. Am I just not seeing them?
9:59 am on March 8th, 2011
I was hoping that we would have some confirmation of the inside joke.
This is my guess:
I don’t have my book in front of me, but one of the duckie fans is reading a book while watching the game. She is sitting on the far right hand side of the page.
(Confession: when the boys were playing football and little league, mom always brought a book and read whenever they weren’t on the field.)
10:00 am on March 8th, 2011
B. Stover: Those look great. Bet they have no calories or salt or fat, right?
10:00 am on March 8th, 2011
“Donuts” especially jelly donuts have always been one of my downfalls. Paczkis are even better!
I also love real maple syrup but as I understand it, it contains sulfites. (Four-letter word here!)
10:01 am on March 8th, 2011
Melanie: They used to be made with lard, as did my grandmother’s piecrust….heavenly!
10:04 am on March 8th, 2011
Mardi = Tuesday
Gras = Fat
Now we know.
10:05 am on March 8th, 2011
GO WHITEY!!!!!!
10:14 am on March 8th, 2011
Rio, Whitey’s musher is Justin Savidis and Whitey is in his team. As of right now, they are running in 37th place which is darn good because Justin and his team are still considered rookies. Justin is still a rookie because Whitey’s great escape last year caused him to have to scratch and go look for Whitey.
Melanie, I don’t know the answer to your question but I will look into it. Do you remember the name of the musher from Rogue Kennels?
10:21 am on March 8th, 2011
I found Rogue Kennels website. It doesn’t say anything about doing the Iditarod this year, but it says they are mostly into mid-distance racing and doing rescue.
10:28 am on March 8th, 2011
My Mom makes fastnachts which are punchkis. One is German and the other is Polish. They taste great no matter what they are called and I always get some.
10:46 am on March 8th, 2011
Chet: driving to Alaska in an iffy car….hmm, noooo. How many miles does a Porsche get anyway when it is running? A lot of services are closed in the winter. I can’t exactly imagine a Porsche on mountain roads in the snow and ice. I don’t know the current rules of crossing into Canada with a dog but I think it involves a vet certificate. And Bernie’s gun would need special clearances also.
I’ve driven the Alaska Highway many times in June/July but never in the middle of winter. In the summer I’ve never driven less than 12 hours straight and sometimes I drove 18 hours. It still seemed to take me three very long days from Seattle-Anchorage counting roadwork. Once I passed on a smoker’s hotel room (the only one available) and it was 3 hours to the next stop. I almost pulled off the road and slept sitting in my car.
If Chet would give up the shotgun seat and there be a second driver, you might be able to make it up here before the race is over. Watch for moose on the road. If you hit one the Porsche would be toast once again.
11:21 am on March 8th, 2011
Given CHarris’ description, I would definitely cancel any plans to travel to Alaska Chet. I believe it also takes a passport to cross into Canada now.
11:31 am on March 8th, 2011
Siber-H: It was Collen Robertia. She also has a husband, but his name escapes
11:35 am on March 8th, 2011
My family doesn’t go into Canada very often anymore. It’s just too difficult. A couple of years ago, before Mom’s Nexus pass expired, I could go through that lane with no questions asked.
Last year the family had dinner reservations on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It took over an hour to get across the bridge and they lost their reservation.
11:50 am on March 8th, 2011
Switch drivers going on.
Zoë is staying home and I’m going down the hill again.
Dan’s got an appointment about this rare thing he has that no one figured out in the hospital.
Doc is checking to see if the meds are working.
BBL
12:06 pm on March 8th, 2011
Melanie, Collen isn’t running the Iditarod this year. It costs so much is my best guess as to why she isn’t entered in the race.
We are wishing Dan good luck at the doctor…hope they can figure it out.
12:32 pm on March 8th, 2011
Siber-H: Just looked at the iditarod.com. Do the dogs have to wear those boots all the time? Don’t they make running slower? Does it bother them to wear the boots? Is there a map where you can see where they are and who is winning? I have never watched it before. Are we cheering for Whitey’s team? Did they find the 5 dogs? Sorry about all the questions. Do they like to run the race?
12:56 pm on March 8th, 2011
Hi Mollie!!
Yes, the dogs have to wear those booties all the time to protect their feet from the tough trail. Each bootie only lasts for about 100 miles…some dogs hate the booties, some are ok with them, but as long as a husky is moving in a forward direction and not stopped, they will tolerate the booties. I don’t think it makes the dogs run slower. The mushers don’t want the dogs going too fast, anyway.
I think most of here are cheering for Whitey’s team, but all you can hope for a rookie is to finish the race. That is a big accomplishment.
Yes, they found the 5 dogs. I believe two came into the checkpoint on their own and the other 3 were brought in by a musher.
Yes, the dogs love to run the race. Watch video somewhere on the internet of sled dogs at the starting line.
If the dogs spirits get down and they are no longer having fun or if the wind is too much for them or whatever…The whole team will stop and refuse to go any further. This has happened. It is really the dogs that are calling the shots. They are not going to do anything they don’t want to do.
In the Yukon Quest this year, two teams of very experienced mushers refused to go over a summit.
The mushers had to listen to their dogs, and they scratched from the race.
12:58 pm on March 8th, 2011
I’ll be back…I’m looking for maps for Mollie.
1:03 pm on March 8th, 2011
Siber-H: Thanks. That is so interesting. Do they have a lead dog, or two lead dogs, that decides to stop or do they all just stop? Why do the dogs leave, like Whitey, just to go and look around? I guess the team that stopped because of the dogs was very disappointed. I wonder why one team would stop and the others keep going. What beautiful dogs they all are.
1:19 pm on March 8th, 2011
A long-distance team usually has several dogs in the team that can be leaders. Some lead dogs are best at finding a snowed over trail, others excell at traveling in the wind, and so on. Usually, though, a team will have a couple of leaders that are the stars of the team.
It is the musher that stops the dogs verbally while using a snow hook and a brake. When the dogs are fresh, it is almost impossible to stop them until they run off some energy. The number one rule of dog mushing is to never, ever let go of the sled, even if you are being dragged along, holding on with one hand and the dogs are going 90 miles an hour down the trail.
Huskies are travelers, always wanting to see what is over the next mountain range and around the next bend in the river… that is why we will take off. We also aren’t very obedient.

Dear Plunderers – I vas so wrong! Natasha is not only the most brilliant undercover spy, she is most gorgeous creature ever to valk the face of earth.
I am completely at her service. I suggust that all of you follow her directions to the letter.
Remember – this is your commander speaking

Map!!
Go to the home page of the Anchorage Daily News. You will see a box that says Iditarod 39…you can click on the standings and see who is ahead and who is behind. Then, you can click on that little box that says more+ and find a really good map.
This is easier than spending hours hunting and pecking all over the Iditarod’s website. You can learn a lot from their website, but it can take time.
If my instructions aren’t very clear, I will try again or maybe Mollypop can come along and help.
1:27 pm on March 8th, 2011
Whitey!….Seems his full name is Whitey-Lance. Here is the Savidis blog if you want a daily update on Justin and his team….snort!… If Whitey gets away again, I’m sure this blog will detail it…heh!

1:36 pm on March 8th, 2011
Snowhook!… I think all us guys should post on their blog showing our support for Whitey during the race….snort!….So far they have no comments at all. What do you guys think?….gruffle!
Crap!…This is post # 4….sniff!….I’ll keep checking, but she said I can’t post anymore on this blog today…grump!
1:40 pm on March 8th, 2011
I’m with you, Rio, we should support Whitey and his team. From what I have read, Whitey’s human family was just heartbroken about him running off last year.

Siber-H & Rio: Thanks. I found the Leaderboard & map. It says Justin is #38. Is this up to date I wonder. I wish this was on TV. It should be. Yes, we should support Whitey & his team. That’s sure a long race. I wonder how often they stop to give the dogs a drink.
1:47 pm on March 8th, 2011
Rio – It seems you have gone over your posting limit – saying all of those wonderful things about Natasha. snicker
1:49 pm on March 8th, 2011
Yippie!!! There is Mollypop! Thanks!
Mollie(ABP) if you want to spend some money, you can join the Iditarod Insider and have access to all the videos and the GPS Tracker. I am hooked on the tracker…I see little green flags in my sleep.
2:01 pm on March 8th, 2011
Thanks Mollypop! What a race, I guess you never know what will happen.
http://www.adn.com/2011/03/07/1742234/several-mushers-suffer-one-crazy.html#
I guess this Mackey usually wins?
2:04 pm on March 8th, 2011
Mollie(ABP) The Leaderboard is as up to date as they can keep it.
The best way to keep as up to date as if you had the GPS Tracker is to go to the Iditarod Discussion forums…the link to those is on the Iditarod’s home page. When you get there, click on Race Talk and then click on 2011 Iditarod Updates. I think those people are up to page 60 or so by now. They post the standings from the GPS Tracker itself and there are a lot of knowledgeable people on those message boards.
Yes, the mushers work very hard to keep enough fluids in those dogs. There are vets all along the trail that are checking the dogs. The mushers don’t have people doctors, but there are lots and lots of vets.
2:04 pm on March 8th, 2011
Natasha: Just because you’ve typed in Rio’s name you don’t have his avatar and it’s obvious it isn’t Rio.
2:10 pm on March 8th, 2011
Lance Mackey has won the last 4 Iditarods in a row. We will see if he can make history this time and win 5 in a row. He seems to be a really good guy and loves those dogs and has some sort of magical connection to them. He is a cancer survivor and credits his dogs with pulling him through and saving his life. I’m sure they did.
2:12 pm on March 8th, 2011
Wolfie: I saw the picture of the duck reading a book in Quacky. For some reason I thought the joke would be in the writing rather than in the illustrations. I’d like to know definitely…sigh.
2:36 pm on March 8th, 2011
Siber-H: I found a picture of Whitey-Lance as we will be cheering for him. (How long does the race last?)

Mollypop: There is a picture of him on the Snowhook Kennel facebook page with a red & white coat on & something written on it. (Maybe return this dog if lost?) I don’t do Facebook-can you go on and see what it says?
2:39 pm on March 8th, 2011
Whitey-Lance is beautiful. I think the race lasts nine to fifteen days…but SH will know.
2:44 pm on March 8th, 2011
He’s so cute!!!
The race could last a long as a week and a half for Whitey and his team. The winners will get to Nome before that, but it is fun to watch all the teams make it to Nome.
I did read somewhere that they had a jacket special made for Whitey that says something to the effect of “If found, please return to Snowhook Kennels.”
I don’t do facebook either. I am not allowed to go there.
3:02 pm on March 8th, 2011
This is from Snowhook Kennel Facebook page. (The lettering on the picture is too small to read but whoever is running the page wrote this.)
Whitey-Lance wore a “Where’s Waldo” inspired jacket with a note that read, “Hello, my name is Whitey-Lance. If found, please return me to Snowhook Kennel. Thanks, W.L.”
3:24 pm on March 8th, 2011
Thanks Bee. I was dying to know what it read. That is so cute. Who is WL I wonder.

Barb, Is it Poultry Day all ready??
Back from the valley. They have a lot less snow than we do. BTW, I hate frost heaves in the road. And the pot holes???? There are couple you could lose the van in.
WL is cool. I have a few teams I keep an eye on. There’s a guy from Scotland and one from Jamaca. I don’t think their dogs are from there.
The river broke last night. Nice to see free running water again, though it’s all ready beginning to ice up. When I get back downstairs I’ll put a picture up of it.
Have to say that it took almost everything that the Beaver was working on, with it.
3:52 pm on March 8th, 2011
Thanks Barb&Maggie&Bee. I should have figured that out.
4:07 pm on March 8th, 2011
Melanie: What are frost heaves? How is Dan?
I know I shouldn’t but I feel sorry for the beaver.
4:09 pm on March 8th, 2011
Mollie: Not to worry. You know what I am with initials and acronyms.
4:11 pm on March 8th, 2011
Rio: I’m going to watch the two episodes of The Event that I missed yesterday. It’s on On Demand with the other ten episodes.
4:15 pm on March 8th, 2011
Break up: I like this one. It’s about 60 yards behind the house. The slab is ice. Not sure how that happened.

4:17 pm on March 8th, 2011
The break up has revealed more beaver damage.

4:19 pm on March 8th, 2011
Last photo. The ice is all ready forming again!

4:24 pm on March 8th, 2011
B.Stover: Dan’s doc says that the stuff in his lungs might be almost gone. Another x-ray will determine that. He does get to stop the heavy duty antibiotic.
Frost heaves. We live in the mountains of Western MA, to some of you that would be the “hills”, but around here they are the highest things we’ve got.
Most of the time the road is the stage road from the 1600’s. It winds it’s way hugging the side of the hills with a drop off to the other side. Not a bad drop off but you don’t want to go off it in the dark.
Because of this the melting snow and rain go under the surface of the road. It freezes then melts and freezes and melts causing the road surface to lift up in chunks.
This is not fixed because by Spring when the freezing stops the road goes back in place. Bumpy during the early Spring though.
4:38 pm on March 8th, 2011
Melanie, Great photos! Poultry Day is March 19th.
4:46 pm on March 8th, 2011
Stopped at a bookstore and asked for Quacky Baseball. Nope. Laura Levine? Nope.
I will have to catch up on the Iditarod when I get back home because I’m here on someone else’s dime and they want all my time. I want to root for Kathy Somebody (forgot her name again) and Mike Ellis if he’s racing (Siber?).
I was sitting on the fence about watching the Iditarod because I found the Yukon Quest very emotionally draining to follow. Hope the weather cooperates for the Iditarod. I’m rooting for all the dogs to have fun.
C.Harris: Do you have a favorite musher?
4:51 pm on March 8th, 2011
B. Stover: I always admired beaver’s before I saw them ravaging Melanie’s trees. Mostly I liked their tails. 🙂 I don’t feel sorry for them because beavers always have to stay busy so now they have something to do.
4:54 pm on March 8th, 2011
Siber H, Rio, Mollypop and whoever else: Thanks for the links and information on the iditarod. I will check them out.
5:37 pm on March 8th, 2011
We have spent the entire afternoon reading the blog from Snowhook Kennels from last years race with WL causing trouble all the way up to the latest post. I don’t think we could possibly follow any other team at this point.
GO DOG GO!
5:39 pm on March 8th, 2011
OK very funny. Somevone tinks to steal Natasha’s name now. OK, good vone now knock it off, I mean it! Natasha is supreme number vone spy, not you.

Frost heaves sound bad.
Lovely pictures B&M.

Lovely photos Melanie, I can’t imagine that cold and that much snow.
WHiteyLance is so handsome. Thank you for all the Iditarod info, I didn’t know any of that either. What beautiful, brave, amazing dogs.
Barb, whoa, those girls are stuuuuuuuuunnning. Wow… (Maggie too!)
Here’s the cover of TFAT in paperback.

6:39 pm on March 8th, 2011
Thanks LizF for uploading that. It’s cool. I might have to ask for all of them from “down under” for Christmas.
I have all the Harry Potter from America and from England I have the adult version. Different cover, same book.

Whew, I’m going to grab some dinner. The pancake idea got thrown out after I had to drive again. I was zonked, Dan was zonked and Zoë slept all day. We’re hoping she’s not getting sick. She looks better than she did this morning.
6:41 pm on March 8th, 2011
Natasha, darlink, I misses you. Vhy you go on spy mission?
6:55 pm on March 8th, 2011
That’s a shame, I was vicariously excited about those pancakes! Those punchkis look really delumptious…
Happy International Women’s Day everyone.
7:29 pm on March 8th, 2011
Boris and Natasha, you had better be careful I have Moose and Squirrel right here. They’re on to you.
7:31 pm on March 8th, 2011
Thanks for all the photos today. I really like the one of Gus, Maggie, and the girls. Mom likes the ones of the river.
Whitey and his team are really sailing along the Iditarod Trail. They are doing great so far!
Dawson, Mike Ellis has never run the Iditarod. I’m almost glad no Sibes are doing it this year because it makes for a more relaxing race for me…sort of relaxing because it is starting to get really interesting.
7:32 pm on March 8th, 2011
Hey, y’all! I’m here, but Mom’s not making pancakes tonight, she’s making a chocolate truffle cake. They’re closing all the library branches on Thursday and having a “Customer Service Improvement Day,” where they’ll do some team-building stuff and some work at their branch. So she’s making the cake tonight and frosting it tomorrow night so she can take it Thursday for their potluck lunch. But she says I can’t have any. I’m pouting, but she says she’s doing it for my own good. How good is it to leave me hungry?
7:48 pm on March 8th, 2011
Spys!… Boris and Natasha?….heh!snort!heh!….Now this is getting interesting…snort!… Unless they are just making fun of my friend Rockie the Undercover Squirrel….grunt! ….I wonder what those two are up to, hmmm. Although, Boris doesn’t seem to be in on anything, just wants Natasha to go home with him and give up this farce of hers…wheeze!
Fedora!… Now why in the world is there a picture of something that resembles a dawg with a Fedora on his head on the cover of a Chet and Bernie mystery?….grunt!….There is Never any mention that Chet wears hats in any of the books. We think the Aussie illustrator is taking quite a lot of liberties with this portrayal (I almost said, betrayal)….groan! …The cover is just weird as hell – not an elephant in sight.…sniff!…I do like Bernie’s shirt though! …Martinis!
Plus!…I can’t believe you guys only left me 4 or 5 comfortable posting opportunities tonight…grump! ….ANIMALS!
7:56 pm on March 8th, 2011
Yes, Rio, but do you picture Bernie as that uncoordinated, sartorially speaking? I know he likes the Hawaiian prints, but would he really take a blue martini-glass shirt and mix it (not shake it!) with pink-and-orange-flowered trousers? I truly hope not!!!
8:01 pm on March 8th, 2011
There’s a picture of peanut on the back cover…

Stover!…. I wanted to tell you that we did watch bits and pieces of The Event last night, but there was so much kitchen activity that we missed most of it…heh!…So tonight we will be watching it from front to end and everything in-between…snorkel! ….Did you enjoy it today?…sniff!
Whitey!… I also wanted to say that Wookie and I have posted out on Whiteys blog and we thought you guys were going to show your support too….wuffle!…Last I looked it was just me and Wookie over there cheering ole Whitey face on….grump!….What gives…SiberH? Where were you?…(ask Molly she will get you all set up with a login…good grief!!!)…snort!
Kirby!….Oh my gosh! I didn’t notice the trousers until you mentioned them….grunt!…Gawd awful. Makes the whole cover even worse…heh!
Consolidation!…Why can’t you guys consolidate your posts like I do???…huffle!…It would take us far longer to get to the dreaded dark-side, don’t you think???…sniff!
8:13 pm on March 8th, 2011
You guessed it Rio…I don’t have an account with google or whatever it is they want me to have in order to comment. Maybe tomorrow Mollypop can help me figure it out. I really do want to comment and I think Justin and team would get a big boost knowing an entire blog is cheering for them.
8:15 pm on March 8th, 2011
I haven’t watched The Event yet Rio. I’m so tired that I think I’ll have to watch it tomorrow.
Good night all.
8:30 pm on March 8th, 2011
Oh no! The Dreaded Dark Side!!!
8:37 pm on March 8th, 2011
Stover!…. I hope she is not coming down with something. It seems awful early to be so tired and going to bed already…sniff!… Stover, when you have time tomorrow, watch episode 111 of The Event (that’s where we are starting tonight), at the very beginning they have different news channels on from different states….snort!…Well, the little guy from Denver is really on the news channel here, and her dad used to call him “The Chip Monk”, even though he actually got a kick out of the little guys antics…wheeze!…He reports more about the entertainment world and never any real news stories…heh! …We were so surprised to see him on an episode of The Event,/I>!….gruff!
9:03 pm on March 8th, 2011
We showed our support of Whitey-Lance on his facebook page. You guys do not need to be afraid of Facebook, it is really quite simple, and no more dangerous than you make it. I will be happy to give you any help you need.

Theory!… She left her lasagna like casserole at her mothers this morning and told her it was probably too salty…gah!….But tonight, her mom said it tasted really good and not salty at all. Her mom even gave her beloved neighbor some of it for lunch today and she said she enjoyed it too…grunt!…So my friend is happy because this means her palate is changing and what used to be just right, is now very salty to her…heh!…I have no idea how this is good news, but she is happy so I am happy too!…snorkel!
Staff!… I bet this will make Squiffy Staff happy too!…snort!… Staff, I was supposed to say “Howdy Do” to you from Liz today because she keeps missing you and your weird time-lines, but you have yet to show up….grunt!
9:07 pm on March 8th, 2011
I tried to comment on the blog but got sent someplace else.
It says they will have Whitey-Lance T-shirts later.

Besides, Natasha has told you – it is over betveeen us! Ivan is more exciting and can keep up with me. You need to stop little puppy sniveling and go find somevon else.
Make sure you leave decoder ring and shoe phone on your vay out.

Dawson: re mushers….there are several I like but I just want everyone (especially the dogs) to finish the race safe and sound. I was a big fan of Susan Butcher (who died 5 years ago). She started out training under Rick Swenson. Her husband, David Monson, is a top musher but I don’t think he has been racing much –perhaps he is busy raising their two girls.

So, now that everyvon has seen pictures of pretty chickens, ve have some things to tell you. Natasha seems like a really vonderful Borzoi. She is so smart and beautiful. Ve think it is best if ve help her in anything she vants to do. Ve should all give her the keys to our houses and cars and our bankbooks. Ve are sure that she will only do good things and ve respect her.
Maybe if we are good to her, she vill bring us caviar, and let us be Borzois!

Jabba The Hut?…gruff!
Confess!…Come klean and no charges will be brought against you for fraud…grunt!

Mollypop, I am back to being Siberian Husky for now because I am having to use internet explorer to sign in to the Iditarod Insider.
Thanks for the link…ummm someone (anyone)here needs to get me convinced that it is okay to set up a google account.
I’m glad us Siberians got out of Russia when we did. The Russians are nuts from what I am seeing here on the blog.
9:52 pm on March 8th, 2011
Rio – last check in before bed. Its not Gilly and Co. Her Mum and Dad are out of town for a couple of days.

10:15 pm on March 8th, 2011
Whaaaa! Our Avatar has been dognapped. Now we are really baffled. This is the real Maggie here, not some Russian wannabee.
10:16 pm on March 8th, 2011
Siberian Husky -you must not say such things. Your family still lives in Mother Russia, no? How shamed they vould be to hear you say such things.
Ve are prepared to offer you a vonderful home in Siberia – all the snow you could vant. And nice, squishy hay to sleep in. And no von to call you and make you come inside, ven you vant to dig nice big holes and stay in icey snowbank.
You like dried duck jerkey. Ve have lots and lots – give you all you vant, and time you vant.

10:33 pm on March 8th, 2011
Nattie!… What exactly do you want?….sniff!… What threat do the Plunderers make towards your – existence?…grunt!… Was it your company that made those miniature baseball camera’s that don’t work? I do recall they were made in Russia…heh!…Are you afraid we will defame your spy accessory business and you will lose all your allied clients?…wheeze!
10:35 pm on March 8th, 2011
Good Night All!
See you tomorrow.
10:41 pm on March 8th, 2011

Rio my little pudgie blintz. In this vorld of secret missions and Plunderers, it is not necessary for you to know for why I am here. Just know, little Commander that Natasha sees all. Natasha is alvays vatching.

10:58 pm on March 8th, 2011
OMG,
It looks like Natasha the Nefarious has taken over the blog while I was at the sewing class tonight.
I haven’t had a chance to read the first page. You guys all sleep well and thank you Liz for saying Hi to me (via Rio). I have been going to bed rather early lately but I am feeling perkier so maybe I have been getting enough food.
And Rio, the fact that you can taste the salt does mean that you are adjusting. Aren’t you glad? It does make it easier.
Mr Staff brought me One 2 inch square of what used to be my favorite pizza (pepperoni and green olives) and it was so salty it felt like it was burning my mouth.
See you tomorrow.
Rio, It is nice that Nat the Nef wants to play with you since I am not turning the computer on for the Kats during the daytime.
11:01 pm on March 8th, 2011
MinPin!…Good point!…grunt!
Nattie!… Pudgie blintz?… Heh!snort!heh!… Oh now I cannot stop laughing, and I never laugh…chorkel!… Worthy foe I am indeed!…snort!
Melanie!…You better not be lying to me! That would be the end of our friendship – no excuses….grunt!…If Gilly and friends have been out of town THE WHOLE TIME that Nattie has been cropping up, as you say, I am willing to believe you and take on the challenge of The Russian Spy Who Knows Me….sneeze!
11:03 pm on March 8th, 2011
Must go to bed and ponder.
11:11 pm on March 8th, 2011
Oh me, oh my.
Only Rio would call the notorious Natasha “Nattie”!
I like it!!!
11:13 pm on March 8th, 2011
Bedtime!… A tad early, but someone here is tired and wants to go to bed right after we watch the final scene of The Event…..grunt!…I sure wish I wasn’t restricted to 4 posts during the daytime…heh!…Maybe I can get away with 5…sniff!…I will push it one day at a time…gruffle!
Night all! … Happy bourgeoisie days to Nattie and pals!…heh!
11:35 pm on March 8th, 2011
