Howdy! Admin and Spencer, that is another link we wish we hadn’t viewed.
8:36 am on May 15th, 2014
Good morning, OH and everyone! Sheesh! That’s all we can say. Well, there would be more but…
Have a trumped-up dog Thursday.
8:37 am on May 15th, 2014
And, welcome Ruby. You are a good looking lady.
8:40 am on May 15th, 2014
Hello All–I was hoping to be first, but I guess not. Greetings and good wishes to all. It’s going to hit 100 here today (as I’m driving ca 100 miles back and forth from the “difficult” class) so I’m off to accomplish what I can while it’s cool.
Welcome Ruby and everyone have a great day.

Well, I suppose the extra grooming involved isn’t really cruelty and at least they aren’t eating them, so that is a good thing. A little over the top though.
Our post from last night never did show up, not sure why. One of the things we mentioned to Howlers is that a dog behavior specialist told Barb years ago that if two dogs are not getting along, keep them leashed and walk them together to help them get used to each other. If Zeus is provoking the fights, then watch the body language and when you see tempers ramping up, get out the garden hose. Barb uses that technique to discourage excessive barking around here. I don’t like the water squirted at me and Lucy runs for the house as soon as she sees the hose in Barb’s hands!

OK, we figured it out – we just got moderated again on the post above, and took out the word spec***ist and put in trainer. For some reason they don’t like that word. That is basically what we were trying to say last night.
OK, gotta get ready for a work day.
Have a great day everyone.
9:01 am on May 15th, 2014
Barb, Mom does think things might get better when we start going on hikes and walks together. Problem for now is that there is so much work to do, they don’t have time to drive for a hike. Soon, though. And we can’t just walk from our place yet, because Zeus would be confused about the fence. You always have to wait a while before doing that.
As for tempers ramping up: that is the problem. One minute we are all laying about, or playing together, or greeting Pop. The next instant, POW! He goes off on Meash. Never Kat.
9:27 am on May 15th, 2014
Since Kat is still young she is probably lower in the pack order in his eyes. He probably feels more threatened by Meashka and feels a need to challenge her. Is there any way you can leash him and just let him drag it around when you are with him? That would give you a little more control if he goes off. Was he just recently neutered or has it been awhile?
9:33 am on May 15th, 2014
Is there a possibility you could leash the two of them and just walk around your property for 20-30 minutes at a time?
They always say the opposite sex will blend in better when you bring a new dog into a household. That is why this seems a-typical. We don’t have experience with Sibes, so maybe Siber-H or Rebecca would have better advice.
Off to the salt mines.
9:48 am on May 15th, 2014
I think one word covers “panda dogs”: ridiculous.
Good morning all.
9:50 am on May 15th, 2014
Greetings!
I saw the story of the hero cat yesterday on the news! Wow, and yay for that cat!
T.C., I hope you are not in the dungeon again today.
Zeusikov, I hope you and Mama Meash will soon learn to be friends.
Much time will be spent with Mr. Karrot and ‘Lil Karrot under the Rose quilt today.
10:16 am on May 15th, 2014
Panda Dogs…Very high maintenance with touch-ups every 6 weeks…Yikes.
O’Howlers Mom & Pop: All we can say is…youse must have the patience of Job.
Wose: Sending Big Bear Hugs.
11:05 am on May 15th, 2014
Panda dogs? Ok, we don’t get it. But then again we don’t get the ridiculous show cut for poodles either.
Do you want a DOG or a fantasy?
11:08 am on May 15th, 2014
Panda dogs…gah…NO
Good Morning All
11:32 am on May 15th, 2014
The Dogs Who Lived Here Before Me were litter mates Honey and Socks. They would go after each other with NO provocation. Blood would fly. Afterwards, everything was fine, until it wasn’t again. They slowed down in their later years, but Mom never fully trusted them, even though they were both very sweet.
11:50 am on May 15th, 2014
Howlers – Zoe may have some advice that would help. For a while, two of their ladies would do the same thing; be fine and suddenly be fighting. They managed the situation and resolved it, but we don’t know all the steps.
12:03 pm on May 15th, 2014
Macy, That is exactly how it happens here. One second, we are all together; the next, Zeus is going after Meash.
The biggest issue right now is that Meashka does not want to come indoors or get close to Momma and Daddy. They are very sad about that.
12:39 pm on May 15th, 2014
Kat: I’m so sorry this is happening. Hopefully Zoë can help resolve the problem.
12:52 pm on May 15th, 2014
Fellow Sibers, We are sad with all of you. We wish we had some good advice about how to fix this problem, but we don’t.
Our hearts and prayers are with you.
1:00 pm on May 15th, 2014
Howlers – Zeus is trying to assert his ownership of your mom and dad. Tell them Do Not Let This Happen! They must establish the Pack Order of them, then Meashka then Zeus and then Baby Kat.
Tell them to put all of you on leashes and go for a walk – one parent and Meashka in the lead, the other parent walking the other two. Make sure everyone gets lots of pets and treats, but Meashka MUST be the lead dog. On the next walk, have the other ‘rent lead with Meashka, but stay in front.
Once Zeus realizes that this is the final say on what the pack order is, he should accept it and stop his silliness.
1:05 pm on May 15th, 2014
If you are using a shock collar for an invisible fence, can you shock Zeus if he starts being aggressive towards Measha?
1:57 pm on May 15th, 2014
Grump!…I thought the 15th of the month was for finding out about how Spencer comes up with his names…grump!…Not Panda Dawgs….phooey!spit!
2:02 pm on May 15th, 2014
O’Howlers: Sounds like Good Advice the Royals are giving. Looks like a lot of walks are in your future.
Rio: You are right! What happened to the Name Game?
2:14 pm on May 15th, 2014
Spencer!…He is probably still running around with his pointy head cut-off…grunt!
2:21 pm on May 15th, 2014
Hobbit, the fence shocks; not us. However, we do use a remote shocker to get him to stop barking at horses. The problem with the Zeus and Meashka thing is that it comes out of nowhere, and we aren’t always raedy with that shock collar.
2:33 pm on May 15th, 2014
So, we have one vote for walking them together, and another for walking Zeus behind Meash…
2:36 pm on May 15th, 2014
I’m voting for walking Zeus behind Meash.
2:50 pm on May 15th, 2014
My past experience is that people cannot decide or influence pack (or herd) hierarchy. They figure that out themself. I would be very surprised if anything I do changes that.
When Sasha moved in, as tiny as she was, she decided she was Alpha. A few knock-downs later, Moonman was convinced as well.
Meashka may not move over willingly though.
2:53 pm on May 15th, 2014
Howlers, There is this whole establish the pack leader theory that goes along with what T&G have already said. I have read about it but have never seen it put into practice.
Along with walking the dogs the way T&G instructed you would do everything to re-enforce Meash as pack leader. This means feeding her first, treating her first, petting her first, and so on and so forth.
“They” say that dogs do not care where they are in the pack order as long as they know their rightful place. I am only repeating what I have read.
2:54 pm on May 15th, 2014
OH’s mom, have you ever had the problem with 3 dogs before? Since Zeus has bonded with Kat, maybe he is attacking Meashka to ostracize her from the pack. Poor Meashka. Does she at least fight back?
2:57 pm on May 15th, 2014
Kat’s Mom, My mom agrees with you more than she does “the theory”
4:01 pm on May 15th, 2014
IF Meashka comes in, I always treat her first, pet her first, etc. Trouble is that she does not/will not come in with the other two. We have to trick her in later. This is not entirely new behavior for her, but it has grown since Zeus is there.
BooBear, we have not had the problem with three dogs before, but Dima and Kat are both easy-going and not Alphas. Sasha, like I said, was Alpha. She was very mean to Boris when she came. He was very old by then, and nearly deaf and blind. But Sasha was rescued from a “collector” and had food issues. Zeus was an only dog, at least at the place he lived for the past 3 years.
I have taken Meashka for special rides and ice cream to help her feel special. That helped, but only until the next time.
They actually have all walked with us on the property without any trouble. The 4 times there were issues were: 1) The first time I have no idea why because I was in the garden and they were just outside. I watched them play, looked down, and the fight broke out. 2) Both went after a ball thrown outside, 3) Zeus spotted something, or thought he did, and ran up the yard. Meashka and Kat ran too, like Huskies always do. They were all investigating under a tree, and Zeus started the fight with Meash. 4) When Pop got home, they ran to greet him. He was loving them up, and Zeus started the fight.
Meashka does fight back.
Heading out now. I will catch up later.
5:37 pm on May 15th, 2014
Kat’s Mom – we think you are doing everything right, it might just take some time for Zeus to feel secure. Are the fights happening at higher frequency, or have the attacks slowed down?
All paws crossed that this behavior ceases.
6:10 pm on May 15th, 2014
OH, so sorry there are issues with the Zeusikov. We have our paws crossed that things work out soon so that there is peace in the land.
6:11 pm on May 15th, 2014
If Zeus has anxiety issues, using a Thundershirt might help. My friend did this with her high anxiety dog and it worked wonders. I tried it with Sadie when I was traveling back and forth from North Pole to Anchorage and it didn’t work for her. If you want to try it and if Zeus can wear a size Large, I can send you the one I have.
6:25 pm on May 15th, 2014
When I arrived home, the Reds greeted me. Apparently, they wouldn’t come back in for the cleaning lady this morning. Not surprising, because Pop had a hard time getting them in when he left. So Zeus was alone inside all day. He was sitting quite calmly, just like every day, at the back door. The house is unscathed. So the kinds of anxiety you all are thinking of is not what he has.
When he went outside, Meashka and Kat and he enthusiastically greeted each other and played nicely. However, we once again had to trick Meash to get her inside to eat with the others.
Now for the bad news: the newly-repaired screen door was once again ripped. And this screen is the very heavy aluminum kind. I will have to tell the cleaning lady not to let him out, because she probably can’t hear him cry to come inside.
Moonman used to rip that screen all the time, but he was ripping it to get out!
6:28 pm on May 15th, 2014
While I am concerned for Meashka’s feelings, I also know that Zeus lost his home, more than once. It will take a long time for him to get over that, and I will do everything I can to let him know that he is loved and is special.
7:14 pm on May 15th, 2014
I can’t remember why, but I have to be tricked to come in a lot of the time. Everyone else runs in all willy-nilly, but I prefer to hang back. It seems to irritate mom at 11 pm, when she has to go out in her bare feet to encourage me to come in. I’m just an outdoorsy kind of girl, even if I look more like a couch potato. Before dad left, I would finish my dinner and then push Belle out of her bowl. Now I eat like a dainty lady. I’m not sure why, but I got tired of being a bully.
7:18 pm on May 15th, 2014
Zeus’s New Mom, I knew you would say that.
7:41 pm on May 15th, 2014
We agree that the dogs are going to decide their pack order on their own. I still don’t think that means that you can’t do some things to help the transition be less explosive. I thought T & G’s idea about walking them with Meashka first was a good one.
What do you do after he goes into one of his attack modes? Do you severely reprimand him or isolate him or verbally let him know that his behavior is not tolerated? Could you inadvertently be doing something that makes him think it is ok with you, like talking nicely to him to calm him down?
7:46 pm on May 15th, 2014
We just walked the fields with all of us Howlers on the leash. Meashka led on the way out. Meashka and Zeus were walked together on the way back. No issues. We stopped twice on the way to have a Howlfest. Zeus did not howl, although he has howled in the house so he knows how. Mom says he still does not feel he is part of The Pack.
A big storm is coming our way. Really big. We are battening down the hatches.
7:48 pm on May 15th, 2014
Howlers hang on tight!
8:00 pm on May 15th, 2014

Rio, American Idol is on. I hope this will end the way I think it should. Then next week it’s all over and we will have a winner.
9:05 pm on May 15th, 2014
RIP squeaky toy! The three of us were playing so well together and then I went to check my email leaving you and Sadie together. {{{sigh}}}

9:09 pm on May 15th, 2014
Ooo Macy, I didn’t know your Mom needed a new car. If you buy a brand new one, more and more the brands and models are all good. Visibility and gas mileage are high on my list. Also check to see how well the dealerships in your area handle maintenance checks and repairs.
If you buy a new/used car, have a mechanic check it out. Also I think there is a way to get the history of the car using its VIN number.
9:31 pm on May 15th, 2014
Yeeep!….Idol. In 30 minutes it will be on here. We are watching Fargo right now – that show is riveting! ….snort!…Maskers I just figured out who Mollys boss is…heh!heh!….The quacky lawyer from Breaking Bad…hoooo!

Rio, the American Idol show tonight is one hour long. They’re milking this for all it’s worth. You can just tune into the last five minutes. I’m annoyed because it’s past my bedtime. Now I’ll be crabby all day long tomorrow.
9:36 pm on May 15th, 2014
Barb likes to buy cars that are about 2 years old with 20-25,000 miles. You can get better deals than buying brand new. Also we here like small SUVs as they are 4 door plus have room for the doggies in back. Or groceries. Or plants, etc. Barb has a Ford Escape. It gets good gas millage and has been a great car for 3 years now. It is a 2010 and was purchased in Feb 2001 from a Ford dealer, with the 75,000 mile warranty.
9:44 pm on May 15th, 2014
Milking!….gah!…One hour long? I was really enjoying the 1/2 hour ‘see-ya-later-you-are-gone’ format….grunt!

BooBear!…GAH!…Here I am relaxing, enjoying my evening with not a care in the world and you come wanting information from me….sniff!…Well poop. I will have to look it all up and get back to youse tomorrow maybe…grunt!
10:58 pm on May 15th, 2014
Hi, Boobear. Night all.
11:16 pm on May 15th, 2014
ML – we suggest that you contact the local dealers of the car brands you like and ask what they have for new leftovers (2013) or 2014 ” program cars”. Both are basically new cars that sell as used. Our new 2014 SUV was a program car with 10 thousand miles on it. It also has every bell and whistle known to man. But since it is “used” it was almost 10 thousand less than a similarly equipped brand new, untouched 2014
Also – if anyone needs a gloriously beautiful brand new Suburban, the dealer has a leftover 2013, the dealer has one that he is selling at HIS cost, just to get it off the lot before the 2015’s arrive. 50k instead of 67k.
Still more than is our treaty fund, but wow, what a sale.
11:37 pm on May 15th, 2014
50K!?….Holy crap!…snort!….Who has that kind of money to spend on a stinking car…grunt!
11:39 pm on May 15th, 2014
Not!…Me, or Beau or my friend, that is who…wheeze!…My old Subaru is still running with 133,000 miles on-it…sniff!….Everyday we pray for a 1000 more…grunt!
11:41 pm on May 15th, 2014
