Housekeeping Bulletin

“I hear you’re going to the blogpaws convention,” Admin says.

“Salt Lake City, June 21-23,” says Spence. “Really looking forward to it.”

“Anything else on the agenda?”

“Well, also around late June I believe, there’s going to be an e-only Chet and Bernie short story. This is in response to those who get a little impatient with the yearly interval between books.”

“Do we know what the short story will be about?” Admin says.

“Heh heh, as a certain pug might respond,” says Spence.

“Heh heh meaning it’s a secret, or heh heh you have no clue?”

Welcome Shelly, Iggy(!), Hershey.

Salt Lake City??? Why can’t anyone hold conventions where there are Plunderers? What’s wrong with Denver or Albuquerque or North Pole Alaska – I ask ya?

    Good morning everyone.

Mama is taking us on an adventure this morning. We are going to go get something that prevents rabbits. Well, actually Mama said it prevents rabies, but you know Mama can’t spell for beans.

An e-short story about C&B!!! Holy Moley! Now we’re twirling. When is June? How long from now? Is that tomorrow or day after tomorrow?

Welcome to 3 of the best-looking new FOC we’ve seen: Shelley, Iggy (!!!!!) and Hershey.

Shiek ate some food overnight, and some more this morning. Mom put some of that powder in there this morning and while she was mixing it with some apple sauce to see if he would eat it all, that funny guy walked right on out of his stall and the barn and started trotting around the yard and eating grass! Then he trotted on into the pasture and yelled to the world that he was back! Crossing our paws that he ate the rest of that food…going up to look now…

Bluecat: My prayers and thoughts coming at you and your family.

    Good morning everyone!

I am excited about the e-book. I’ve been quiet and learning. I have two bird feeders on one of mt home office windows. One is for hummingbirds. I have a cat tree just inside by the window. The cats and I love watching the wild birds. Just about every day this same bird came to eat. I named it Enza. One morning I must have left the window open a little because (I apologize)

Melanie, Have an envelope ready to go out in the mail today. 2 pumpkin and 1 squash. Old seeds, but should be fine. We just planted some Arugula seeds from 2008 and they germinated as well as the new 2012 seeds we have. Barb saved some Cinderella pumpkin seeds from one she grew and the other is Spirit pumpkin.

    Steve! Good one!
    Shiek! Feeling good!
    Thanks for the seeds!

PT person and I went through the rules with Dan. I wrote them down. He didn’t think he needed to have the written down because he follows them all the time. And the conversation that didn’t take place that I wasn’t there for? Today he said it never happened. Soooooo. After going over the rules I was going to type them up and have everyone sign it. When I said that I would be the one that made the final decision, he said he wouldn’t sign it. Sigh. Then I reminded him again that he’s had two conversations that weren’t real and making decisions based on those and it he wanted more freedom he would only get it if he agreed that I had the final say.

So he signed it. There was more stuff. I really don’t know what is going on. Luckily he still writes. He enjoys that. And he’s good.

I’m tired and sad. Sorry about whining.

Bee, The Cinderella pumpkin is a French heirloom whose real name is Rouge Vif D’Etampes. It was so named because it is shaped like Cinderella’s carriage. They think this variety of pumpkin was used for the original drawings of her carriage.

Silly thing ran into the rain gutter, trying to get away from me. I did my best to get him by destroying the downspout, cutting my nose in the process. 64. OleyHowlers
    3:49 pm on April 5th, 2012

Steve, here is the story of the origin of the term Plunderers in B.Stover’s words:

    From B. Stover, Yesterday
Regarding “Plunderers”: It all started when I posted an answer to Spence who was wondering what we would do when technology takes over the world. (I don’t remember the specifics.) I wrote, “One just plunders on.” (That is embroidered on one of our quilt squares.) The next day, Spence/Admin posted that they thought that very funny (they thought I had meant “blunder”) and that it would be their motto from then on. Eventually they named us the “Plunderers.”
I did not mean “blunder” the denotation of which in verb form means to act blindly without guidance. (Interestingly, in the 17th century blunder and plunder were used interchangeably.) Plunder has a negative denotation in most cases because it’s associated with gaining something illegally often from a defeated enemy. However, the American sense of plunder (noun form) is derived from the German “plunder” which simply means junk. It’s were we get the use of plunder as baggage.
It is in that sense that I have for years said to my students, “Plunder your minds to find the solution.” (Making the noun a verb of course.) It is that sense that I was using when I wrote “One just plunders on.” It means to work against all odds to find solutions to difficulties; to sort through the irrelevant junk to find the thing that matters. I extend that to include the connotation of finding solutions to help make the world a better place.
It makes perfect sense to me…but then, I also think Wittgenstein makes perfect sense.

TC: very cool and very true.

The radio kept saying that it was to get to 50 degrees today so I wore sandals to work. It was 16 this morning and is 32 five hours later. Perhaps I made a mistake {{{sigh}}} We all want spring to come so badly. I am also wearing a nice spring blouse but have a coat over it which kind of defeats the purpose {{{sigh}}} I do not want to hear about all of youse being in the 70s and 80s and planting/harvesting gardens. On the bright side, I do have much more energy because it is daylight until after 9 pm and we are gaining more each day.

Steve, don’t be embarrassed to ask any question. We still don’t know what the original Plunderers are talking about here a great deal of the time. Not all of us were on the blog from the beginning.

Here is an amazing story that someone posted on Chet’s FB page:

C.Hobbit: Oh, your poor “dogs”! Personally, I consider 50 rather chilly, but after 50 below can see how you would be twirling. We have pretty much stopped relying on the weather types (not Weatherkat) for reliable information. Just recently we were given a forecast then told to cross our paws.

T.C.: You are becoming quite the techno-kat.

Don Larson of The Far Side did one of my favorites:

A bar scene where a couple of lovely female warthogs are at the bar having drinks. More warthogs are in the background. Then a male warthog appears in the doorway. One at the bar says to the other, “Hmmph – he thinks he’s God’s gift to warthogs.”

Oley, and Macy, thanks for taking my side today against that meanie, Barb. Why was she so upset about a little piece of downspout. It just has some extra drainage holes and a slightly different shape than before. So big deal!

OK, what did we miss? We went back and read at least every other word and can’t figure out what Melanie was taling about with her email address.

We thought the story about Juno and the boy Lucas was endearing, and Juno is an awesome dog. We always worry about the dog a little when the child has behavioral issues (which is why they had trouble getting a service dog). It sounds like everything is going smoothly, but we just hope the parents are understanding if Lucas hauls off and hurts the dog and Juno snaps at him. It is a natural instinct, and we would hope they wouldnt hold it against the dog. Guess we always tend to take the dog’s side of it.

Since I am out here Alone, I am going to take this opportunity to remind you all how much fun it is to make, bake, beg, borrow, or steal stuff for the new Store…heh!… Also, I have an idea that is over and above the donated Boutique Items. It would be what Rebecca and I like to call “The Newphelant“ room….heh!… Some would call it the “White Elephant” room. It will be Plunderer Specific Items that we donate – an example would be my Coat of Many Colors, or Beaus harness with Grandmas underware bits attached…sniff!…Lord knows he wants a new harness…heh! ..It would be like a yard sale with personal items we donate that others might want for one reason or another….grunt!… I have my eye on Wookie’s bright red bow-tie….snort!… Anyway, it is just a wild idea and I need to know what youse guys think of it….sneeze!…Will there be enough White Elephant Items to open a whole new Room at the Boutique or should we just treat these like the other special donated items?…heh!

I for one am still wondering about Astrid and somebody’s son who looked like somebody and the smell that Chet smelled ( smelt?) in some building in an abandoned lot. And there was someone who was rich and mean who got done in and I think that Astrid was married to him. Well, it is all jumbled now because I am a dog who only holds on to memories that really matter. Like the smell of a full moon or the color of summer.

Wolfie: I like that—the smell of a full moon or the color of summer.

Well, I sweated out some stress tonight, but most of it was by accident. I hopped on the elliptical and accidentally hit the wrong program. I was thirty seconds into an advanced hil climb before I realized what I did. One thing bugs me after gym—those folks who get on and off machines every few minutes, only do so half heatedly while chatting away with their friend—I didn’t want to become my own pet peeve sir I stuck out that brutal hill climb for the entire thirty minutes. I will probably be sore tomorrow. Grunt. Snort. Sweat.
