Hockey (From Thereby Hangs A Tail)
Bernie says there’s lots of hockey talk down below. So here’s this:
I’d been in the Metro Arena once, back before the hockey team left town, me and Bernie working on a case involving some crazed fan. Hockey: the strangest game I’ve ever seen, made no sense, plus all the fans turned out to be crazed and we maybe didn’t even end up finding the right one and clearing the case, which hardly ever happens. Also, I got to go on the ice, supposedly a treat. Ice! Once was enough, let me tell you. Plus the players smelled very bad and the puck was none too tasty.

SEE! See! It is just like he is continuing the 'chat' from last night.
Heh heh heh
Well everyone around me is packing and lifting boxes. In fact they are looking at the laptop right now.
Time for me to dematerialize.

Chet, I agree with you about hockey.

Alice Johnson: Thank you for filling in for me last night.
Wish I could go to the Norwell Reads Project. That would be fun. I hope we get back to the case soon. We left Chet and Foster in the pool and Foster is in big trouble with Albie.

Chet, the youngest struggling actor son played hockey for 2 or 3 years. He wasn't a great skater but the coach loved him because he would throw himself in front of the puck before it could get to the goalie. I think we still have a couple of pucks around, but since you don't like the taste, I won't send them your way.
I wish I could get to Norwell, but three hours is a bit too far right now. Dan is doing better, but I think Zoë has actually broken her foot.
The Newfs did not come quietly in on 40 paw tips, but galloped and jumped on our beds giving all of us "Hello!" drooling kisses. We all got up, the humans having Hot Cocoa and the Newfs some Beef tea. They showed us the pictures on the cell phone.
You guys are such cards! We loved the picture of you guys hiding behind the polar bear making it look like he had a lot of tails. Also the one of Bess giving Santa a kiss and the rest of you snatching all the cookies! I'm so glad you all have gotten home and everyone is safe.
Dubya: (snicker) It depends on your boys. Are they totally cool types? My boys were. Hats had to be just so, clothes just so, attitude just so. . . They finally grew out of it, though having me as a mother who really doesn't care about being cool, or with it, or the correct clothes (hard to have nice clothes when you have 10 Newfs in the house) might have had something to do with. BUT, I digress, If they don't care about being "correct" then the books would be great.
If they do care about being cool, they would still like the books, but just give them a different cover. You could cut out a pic from a graphic novel cover and put that on the first one.
I say the first one, because once they get through with that, they won't care about how the second and third look.
You can always by them for you, and use reverse psychology?
Teenagers are hard, their frontal lobes haven't matured, or turned on or something like that.

Oh, and I want to learn how to di-materialize and materialize like Alice.
I don't think I want the dogs to know how though. Franklin though can make himself disappear by putting his head down and not look at you. 168 lbs of Newfoundland dog, gone in a second.

Wha!?… This is like a re-post!…. snort!… We’ve had this one before!… grunt!… What a rip off!! … Chet must be really busy on a case. I was dying to see what happens when Foster gets out of the pool…crap!
Melanie!… How many total pounds of dog live in your house?…. wheeze!
5:25 am on April 21st, 2010
Wha!?…. I’m still waking up… but isn’t next Monday the 26th?…. snort!… wheeze!… But I could be losing my mind, no doubt about it. … snort!

Melanie – I had only one problem with the Newfs on our Adventure. Every time I tried to go for a swim, a Newf dragged me back on land. How can anyone go swimming with these guys around?
They would not make it a fun day on the beach.

Rio is correct. Monday is April 26. Now I have to go grade essays….my least favorite thing in the world.
5:46 am on April 21st, 2010
Essays!…. What sort of topics are you making your students write essays about Stover?… grunt!
5:47 am on April 21st, 2010
Wow!… Admin is quick!…sneeze!
5:51 am on April 21st, 2010
Well, I think everyone is home safely now, as promised. SiberH dropped me off in the truck and then had his drive home. Melanie, I hope the van is clean enough for you; we did the best job we could, but it was an effort. Not much of a hockey fan, but I think our Caps may have a good shot this year for some guy named Stanley's cup, or whatever. If not us, then maybe the Avalanche will prevail, although I have an interesting mental picture of Rio on his hind legs slurping beer out of Stanley's cup. Hmmm. Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful trip. Wookie

Rio: This third (and final essay of the semester) is on Virginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse…..my favorite novel.
6:04 am on April 21st, 2010
Sam, sorry about that, the Newfs do tend to save people, and other dogs from the water. It does make it difficult to swim when they are around. Patsy and I went on vacation at Cape Cod and though she would let me walk on the beach, I was not allowed near the waves.
Riö, After your question, we had to add it up. 1,340 pounds of dog at our house. Good thing it was built 198 years ago, I don't think a modern house could stand up to them.
I remember when Chet put this up the last time. It was one of my "fog" times and I didn't remember that Chet had talked about hockey and asked him about it. It was either you or B.Stover that corrected me and Chet put the post up the next day.
That I can remember. My mind file retrieval is weird.
6:19 am on April 21st, 2010
Hmmm… It was the day after Chet asked you a question whether hockey had been mentioned before or not… snort!… We waited and waited for your reply…grunt!… When you couldn’t answer, I did… heh!… Then I asked for an autographed copy of ‘To Fetch a Thief’…. wheeze!… The next day Chet posted the Hockey bit and Admin said I could have the book…. Yippee! … I’m skipping…I’m skipping!
6:24 am on April 21st, 2010
Stover!… Interesting!… Why do you like that story so much?… snort!
6:47 am on April 21st, 2010
1340 lbs!!… holy crap!
7:08 am on April 21st, 2010
I had absolutely no problem with the Newfs trying to keep me out of the water, but I really admire their life-saving skills. The Newfs were very happy that I gave then no trouble. They are a good group of guys and gals that I would be proud to be seen anywhere with. I feel the same about all the others that went on our quest. What good company all of you were. DOGS RULE!!!
My opinion of hockey is the same as Chet's, except I like the idea of the ice and how cold they have to keep the arenas.
7:28 am on April 21st, 2010
Hockey? I don't know if I can talk about it. Sniffle, sob. Things aren't going well.

Admin: Firm pub date for To Fetch A Thief will be known tomorrow.
8:28 am on April 21st, 2010
Hooray!…. Thanks Admin! …snort!

Buffalo Sabres – Ryan Miller's team. We're in the playoff against the Bruins.
8:49 am on April 21st, 2010
Yes! A publication date!
Rio: I find Woolf and the Bloomsbury group fascinating. That entire period and the change from Victorian to Modern, the change in cultural values, World War I and the way it affected life all reveal a great deal about the human being. Also, given the influence of Freud and his interest in the workings of the human mind, many authors wrote using the Stream of Consciousness technique (James Joyce and William Faulkner are two others)which places the reader in the minds of characters more directly than any other technique. I also feel that Woolf, like Shakespeare, knew a great deal about human relationships and motives. To The Lighthouse is probably the most difficult thing our students read, but they learn about life and feelings.

I'm so sorry Rio! But for 2 days Megan has kept the laptop where I couldn't reach it! I even cried and looked at her with my big, brown eyes, but she said, "No! I'm busy!"
I finally got it from her, from mommy, actually. And, for payback, I scratched her in the face! It made me feel better.
Good going Chet! That-a-boy! I wish I could do that, but I'm terrified of water, especially because I get….I can't even say the word…CLEAN! Ew, it came out of my mouth! Ew!
10:27 am on April 21st, 2010
Wow Stover!… It has been a while since I’ve heard anyone mention the Bloomsbury group. … snort… Quite a few years ago my friend got to take a tour of Virginia Woolf’s house in Lewes… grunt!… She happened to be there on the one day of the year that it was free!… wheeze!… She said it was amazingly small… snort!…and it gave her goose bumps being there…. grunt!… Lewes is a picture perfect English village.

Lexi, darling little Lexi, you and I had a lot of good talks during our Adventure about grown-up behavior. Remember that you weren't going to do that dumb puppy stuff anymore? You're one year old and not a puppy!
11:08 am on April 21st, 2010
I'm sorry, MollyPop! But…she's…I…
11:12 am on April 21st, 2010
I stayed in Lewes for several weeks some years ago. I went to Monk's House in Rodmell and also to Charleston, her sister Vanessa's country house. Really great! The South Downs are beautiful. To The Lighthouse is her most autobiographical novel.
12:11 pm on April 21st, 2010
Now!… you are making my friend very nostalgic and she wants to go back to England… snort!… Too bad all the flights are cancelled… grunt!
12:21 pm on April 21st, 2010
Yes, that stupid volcano. My Mom ordered a new needlepoint canvas from England and they said the shipment would be delayed due to the volcano.

Great news from Admin today!! Perfect timing, if I do say so myself. All of us got home from our adventures just in time for the pub. date. I think it was very nice of Admin. to wait until we got back.

Wow, we got back to the farm and first thing we learn upon reconnecting is we find out the publication date for TFAT tomorrow. Thanks Admin.

Gosh!… Admin only said the date will be “known” tomorrow… snort!… I hope he is planning on sharing it with us… grunt!… I was just assuming he would… cough!
3:07 pm on April 21st, 2010
I don't think admin would have mentioned a firm pub date if he were not going to let us know.
3:18 pm on April 21st, 2010
Of course!…he will mention it!… snort!… Every now and then, Admin just scares me for some reason… grunt!

Melanie,
My boys are just way too cool. They are insecure and therefore it is extremely important that they dress cool too. (I don't know if you saw their photos from Best Freinds, but those holey pants cost mom $60! I didn't realize just how many holes there were until after he had worn them.(
It's good to know they grow out of it. It has been a very trying time for everyone!
My boys love vampires and zombies, so maybe I could do some photoshop to rouse their interest!
I'm glad to hear that everyone is back safe and sound! Any idea on when to expect the moose jerky? Yum!
BStover – you are a brain but I noticed that you kept misspelling my name! It's Wolfie, not Woolf. And I've never been to England!
3:22 pm on April 21st, 2010
I apologize for overuse of exclamation points. This is what happens when a dog has gone all the way to arctic circle and back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3:26 pm on April 21st, 2010
Wolfie!… There and Back Again….snort!… an adventure.
3:37 pm on April 21st, 2010
Baseball!… one of the Nationals hit the ball and was running to first, but he got inside the runners lane, and the ball thrown to first knocked his batting helmet right off! ..HEH…and he was OUT!. HEH!.. snicker! …. And you ask why I love to watch this game so much!… Violence and Action all in one!

Dubya, Youngest struggling actor son finally stopped wearing those type of clothes this last summer. Soooo, let's see he's 25 now, so he was 24 then . . . The oldest artist son was the same age when he stopped.
Both of them wore clothes that were WAY too large and very holey. Then their Significant Others took over. Thank goodness.
Now they wear jeans and tee shirts, but they fit and look good.
I think Chet would have a very easy time with perps that have very loose clothing. I always thought that the way the kids ran was pretty funny, but didn't every let a smile cross my lips or eyes!
4:04 pm on April 21st, 2010
Wolfie: The Newfs and Wookie unlashed the moose jerkey from on top of the van and carried it into your house for you. It is there somewhere, unless they ate it. Nah, they wouldn't have had time, or would they? Well, if you can't find it, Maple will send you more. She is making big bucks right now-endorsements out the gazoo.
4:39 pm on April 21st, 2010
Oooh!… guess what we had for supper?… ugh… Another round of hot green chili… aaaaagh… Usually she freezes it by now, but I think she is being lazy and not wanting to cook anymore…. wheeze!… I hope this doesn’t last all week…sniff!… There will be nothing left of my guts by Friday….snort!… I can hardly breath right now… gurgle.
Wheeze!… I suggested giving it all to Spencer… snort!… But she said, “Why should I give good food to a rich guy who probably doesn’t have the stomach for real New Mexico Green Chili anyway?”… So we are keeping it all…earrrgh..
5:05 pm on April 21st, 2010
Rio, You could send a little bit down my way, and there is someone in Wookie's family who might appreciate some green chili.
Red chili is also a staple in New Mexico. Red chili it will be for breakfast!
5:34 pm on April 21st, 2010
Rio
Who is the "she" you are referring to? Is it your mom?
My mom gave me tuna and some leftover steak and some rice, beans and carrots for dinner. Score! I think she feels guilty for leaving me with a dog sitter while she took my boys to Dog Town.
Only one exclamation point. I am learning!!!!
5:38 pm on April 21st, 2010
Believe! … me SiberH, as much as I love it the first 3 days….snort!… I would really be up to sending it away right now to parts unknown… burp!… I just don’t know how to do that…. sigh!…
Well, the Rockies lost. What the hell? … snort!… Even after knocking that guys batting helmet off!…heh!.. Boy was he mad!…grunt!… This crazy inconsistency is driving me mad right now… suckitup!… sigh….its early early!!
5:43 pm on April 21st, 2010
Ugh!… Humans cannot give birth to dogs… gasp!…It is a well known fact…snort!…My “she” is my best friend who feeds me, makes me go on rigorous walks, cuddles me and tries without success to take photos of me…heh!
5:59 pm on April 21st, 2010
My best friends are my boys, so I know all about best friends.
My mom and dad adopted my boys, and since they are gone, she's taken me under her wing because I am a sad and lonely Wolfie. She likes to be called mom, and when she's happy, I get more chicken jerky treats.
Besides, everybody else calls her mom…Teddy, (doggie) and Maggie, Wally, Jason, Claudie and Riley (kitties) all call her mom too. All families are different though.
6:18 pm on April 21st, 2010
Well!… Wolfie you are part of our family here….snort!… Just to warn you, I will pounce on any opportunity to make you the butt of a joke… grunt!.. So please do not ever take me serious…. Heh!… I just can’t help myself! … And sometimes I can be rude… but this is as close to apologies as you will ever get from me … snort!
6:29 pm on April 21st, 2010
Well tomorrow is the big day we find out the publication date for TFAT. I can hardly wait, the anticipation is killing me.
Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'
Thanks, Carly. Good night everyone. Wookie

Stover!… You can get “Breaking Bad” on Netflix!…snort!… I just ordered season one because I did miss some of it in the early days!… grunt! … One of the writers is up for and Edgars Award for an episode from season 2….wheeze!
6:48 pm on April 21st, 2010
