Hoagie
We made a quick pit stop at Donut Heaven. Hey! There was Rick Torres, our buddy from Missing Persons. We parked cop style, driver’s side door to driver’s side door. “Chet in the mood for a cruller?” Rick said. What a question!
“Heard about this mountain lion attack?” Rick said.
Uh-oh. I’d had some experience in this area – might be in Dog On It, can’t quite remember. But don’t get me started on mountain lions.
“Did it happen here?” Bernie said.
“Nope,” Rick said. “Happened in California. This couple was out hiking in the Santa Anas and got attacked by a mountain lion. Their dog defended them, got mauled pretty bad, but saved their lives. Black lab mix, name of Hoagie.”
“Is he going to be okay?” Bernie said.
“Expected to live,” Rick said.
Whew. Way to go, Hoagie! Get well soon.

Don't think we have mountain lions here in Atlanta. Sure hope I'd be that brave, but honestly I kind of doubt it. Anyway, sending slobbery licks and get well wishes his way!

"Hoagie"–what a name for a dog but then again it does mean 'a HERO sandwich' so maybe it is the perfect name. I looked up "Chet" and it is short for Chester which is a latin word for "camp." Bernie, Charlie and Chet love camping. Hmmmm. I am probably over thinking this but names fascinate me. The oddest human name I've encountered was pronounced AB-SEE-DEE and spelled A b c d e e. I always pictured the little girl in first grade spelling her name. At least she knew her ABCs. Why do parents do this to kids.
